A new source on Cerebral Folate Deficiency
Good evening, David! I came across a new review article about Cerebral folate deficiency - in your opinion, is this review good enough to be cited/quoted in the CFD article? Review: PMID 30916789 Hope you are doing fine! Cheers from Russia, ---CopperKettle 14:52, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Minimal Niacin dose for intramuscular injection enough for a flushing
Thank you for your edits of Niacin. There was a minimal dose specified to produce flushing. However, it was not specified whether it was an oral dose or IM/IV dose. Probably the oral one. If so, we should clarify that. Do you have a good source at hand? Also, it seems that for IM/IV path, even doses as small as 10 mg are enough to produce flushing. Don't you know where can we find the source for that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxim Masiutin (talk • contribs) 20:00, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
In a country where I live (Republic of Moldova), nicotinic acid is only available in pharmacies, as a separate substance, in injectable form only. The oral form is only available in small doses as a vitamin-B complex together with other vitamins. In Russia, situation is the same - the main form is injectable, albeit the tablets of nicotinic acid are avaialable as a serarate substance, the injectable form is more widespread. That's why I have asked to you emphasize on the form of niacin. By the way, I have substantially edited the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CYP4F2 today. Could you please review it, maybe you may have some ideas on how can I improve it? Thank you very much in advance for your feedback. -- Maxim Masiutin (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:38, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

-Liancetalk/contribs 06:05, 10 March 2022 (UTC)- Quite an impressive article! Thank you for your contributions :) As you probably know, an editor of your experience can go ahead and move drafts directly to the mainspace instead of waiting for the often months-long queue - but there is nothing stopping you from continuing to use AfC if it is your preference. - Liance Yes, >40,000 edits, but only my third attempt at creating an article. Planning to send it to AfC made me be more conscientious. I am going to let this 'age' for four months, then with fresh eyes, prep for a GA nomination. David notMD (talk) 11:40, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
citation needed
About your comment here about leaving the citation needed rather than deleting. I find that the prevailing attitude in the circle of editors who work with medical articles the most is that statements without citations must be immediately deleted. This is not exactly my belief, but it is the prevailing one. It is what it is. MarshallKe (talk) 12:38, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

A Scholarly Barnstar for the terrific work you did on the citations in support of the Sesame allergy GA |
DYK for Sesame allergy
On 18 September 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sesame allergy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that because of the increasing prevalence of sesame allergy, the U.S. will join the EU and Canada in 2023 in instituting mandatory food labeling? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sesame allergy. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sesame allergy), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Hi David. I know you were hit by COVID and I hope you are all recovered (I saw your recent post at the Teahouse). I'm not sure whether you intend to start working on Mertbiol's suggestions but I'd be happy to help with the workload, probably from Sunday onwards. Is that OK and if so are there any bits you would specially like to hand over to me? Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:53, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Mike Turnbull, Mertbiol - Thank you both for offer and patience. Actually, intending to start my replies to the GA review today. As for the medical path, first I got COVID and started Paxlovid. Five days later my wife tested positive and started Paxlovid. Five days after ending treatment, I tested positive again (am now negative again), and five days after my wife's treatment she tested positive again (and then today, negative!). Luckily, rebound symptoms were not too severe for either of us, and no evidence at present for post-COVID symptoms. David notMD (talk) 15:59, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yes that Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir#Rebound is quite common and one of the reasons that I don't think that therapy will be a long-term winner. Provided one is vaccinated I don't think most people need anti-virals as well. My own infection with omicron earlier this year proved to be mild, fortunately. I have created an article for the above individual, completely oblivious until the final seconds of posting it to the mainframe, that there was an ongoing draft article for her. My apologises if I have trodden on any toes - purely accidental. Two thoughts - firstly, obviously anyone is welcome to add to the article I have created from information in the draft; secondly, I am slightly puzzled as to why a draft article has remained as such for years, and so many editors have added to it, without it ever 'going live'. Anyhow, we are where we are. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:16, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Derek R Bullamore my editing involvement in this was strictly drive-by; I have no skin in this game. David notMD (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
BluesRock007 You had an abandoned draft created by someone else back in 2020 (Draft:Eliza Neals) unabandoned earlier this month. Separately, User:Derek R Bullmore created an article about her, leaving a note on your Talk page to this effect. A third editor removed the connection to the draft, so that it now forwards to the article. What I suggest is that you look at the article and see if it can be improved. Although the draft no longer exists, if you click on Veiw history at the existing article, you can see and retrieve the content you had previously added to the defunct draft. I suggest you copy interesting parts of this to your Sandbox and then see if those parts are worth adding to the article. David notMD (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello. In regards to your deletion of my content:
Abraham has been publicly vocal and quoted in publications about various aspects of his profession. He disagrees with insurance obstacles that patients face concerning only prescribing drugs when working through grief is the primary issue, where he says “There's not a pill for that.” [1] [1]
where I was trying to improve an article and you deleted a citation and quote with remarks "removed last paragraph, as less than 5% of the ref content was about Abraham, and definitely not worthy of a quote by him" I am really curious about what even led you to this article and what motivated you to undo where I am here trying to build an encyclopedia? I do not disagree with the facts that the quote and presence of the subject was but a small piece of a bigger article cited, but your application of standards seems a little heavy-handed to me, as I was just trying to add some interesting content to the article. Thank you for any help you can give me explaining this! TeeVeeed (talk) 13:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC) TeeVeeed (talk) 13:19, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

This looks to me to be unarguably disruptive editing. His failure to provide useful edit summaries is incidental, so I'm not clear why you considered it worthy of mention? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 16:31, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- John Maynard Friedman Ericnex13's account is less than a week old. Yes, all edits to date have been reverted. Ericnex13 has been warned. I am willing to see if behavior improves before recommending blocking. P.S. Coincidently, I live in Maynard, Massachusetts. Maynard was a common surname in England, dating back centuries (also as Mainard). In our instance, Amory Maynard moved to a small community informally named Assabet Village in 1846 and built a large woolen mill. When it came time to apply to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a forma name in 1871, given that he employed most of the people and owned most of the housing, it was "unanimous" that the town was named after him. David notMD (talk) 06:01, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't suggesting a block, my concern was more of giving mixed messages. Water under the bridge now.
- Thank you for the note re Maynard. (I guess you've read User:John Maynard Friedman#My user-name?) See also Viscount Maynard and William Maynard, 1st Baron Maynard. I've read a bit about the Keynes family name but hadn't really pursued the Maynard, so thank you for that. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:44, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
Question from Nlpsocialcyber (09:42, 20 May 2023)
Hello David notMD, I am still learning. Thank you for serving as a mentor, and for reverting material that needs help. I would like to ask you how I might solicit assistance from an editor (of your choosing) to help verify and/or implement corrections to one's own wikipedia page? Please accept my apologies for not fully understanding how this all works; I would like to ensure this is done appropriately and accurately. --Nlpsocialcyber (talk) 09:42, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Question from All4betterscience (20:08, 10 September 2023)
Dear David, could you please have a look on my improved version of Centre of Experimental medicine? I think it is ready now. Many thanks, Helena --All4betterscience (talk) 20:08, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- All4betterscience I tweaked a few things, but the real issue is whether a reviewer can decide if the the non-English references establish notability. David notMD (talk) 20:55, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Many thanks David, I can try to add more EN references if this helps. 85.237.234.222 (talk) 03:33, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Teahouse thread
Hi, David, just to give more context to what happened in that Teahouse thread: The original post was made by The Anti-patroll, but the second was made by The Anto-patroll, a completely separate user who was registered *after* both the initial post and my reply to it. Both of the second user's edits were referencing the long-term abuse account Willy on Wheels; it's almost certainly not *that* LTA, but there are other LTAs that like to imitate that one. Either way, it's an extremely strong indicator that it was a vandalism-only account, attempting to perform a joe job on the original Teahouse poster, hoping a hasty admin would mix up the two due to the similar usernames and block the wrong account. Given this context, I don't believe it is unduly harsh, nor a record for blocking an obviously bad-faith account (and that it would take quite a bit more than "I was being childish and stupid and immature, and will never do it again" to get them unblocked), but as always you're welcome to seek a second opinion or whatever else you want to do. Writ Keeper ⚇♔ 21:15, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- Writ Keeper I was unfamilar with the "on wheels" context. I see no reason to disagree with the action, and suspect there will be no appeal. David notMD (talk) 03:29, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
Hypervitaminose A
Concernant ce sujet, est-il possible de connaître les raisons d'hypervitanimose à alors que le patient ne consomme aucun complément alimentaire ? Merci d'avance pour votre aide. Nestorum (talk) 06:39, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- Nestorum This is English Wikipedia. A machine translation of your question: "Concerning this subject, is it possible to know the reasons for hypervitanimosis when the patient does not consume any dietary supplement? Thank you in advance for your help." The article Hypervitaminosis A and other sources identify arctic mammal liver and some other animal liver such as shark, large tuna and others as causing hypervitaminosis A when consumed by humans. Question from GlasgowGoatHerder (14:37, 29 October 2023)
I made a draft for a page Howard Tangye. can you give me advice how to improve it? --GlasgowGoatHerder (talk) 14:37, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- GlasgowGoatHerder I edited Draft:Howard Tangye a bit toward standard formatting, but I agree with the Comment that he does not appear to meet Wikipedia notability. His having students who are the subjects of Wikipedia does not add to his notability (notability is not contagious). David notMD (talk) 16:13, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- OK I understand that. thanks GlasgowGoatHerder (talk) 16:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from GlasgowGoatHerder (21:26, 29 October 2023)
I was editing an article linked to Tangye and adding more sources. I noticed there was large sections of the article I couldn't fine on any other sources except for one paywalled article on a gossipy website. I made a report on the reliable noticeboards sources noticeboard as I couldn't find the publication on the noticeboards archives. Is this what the standard protocol would be? --GlasgowGoatHerder (talk) 21:26, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
Question from DiamondBDE6 (14:18, 5 November 2023)
I am a retired US Army Major General and subsequently an Appointed Vice President with Northrop Grumman Corporation from which I retired in 2014. Would like to build a biography page. --DiamondBDE6 (talk) 14:18, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- DiamondBDE6 Autobiography is difficult, but not impossible, nor forbidden. See WP:AUTO for reasons why, and see WP:YFA for how to create and submit a draft. See also WP:42 for an understanding of what is meant by independent and reliable references. Unless people with no connection to you have published content at length, about you, you will not have Wikipedia notability. David notMD (talk) 14:24, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Fairfieldroad (15:50, 25 November 2023)
Thank you for your input. I would only add that my first job after Watford GS and Oxford was as a copy editor at Penguin Books. My second, and only other, job was more than 30 years in editorial and journalistic jobs at the BBC Monitoring Service, External Services, Radio News and Television Current Affairs. I know something about editing. Shapps is an alumnus who has done an astonishingly large number of high-profile jobs. It's that simple. --Fairfieldroad (talk) 15:50, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from Cities Aviv (16:29, 27 November 2023)
How do I save a draft I am in the middle of writing? There's no accurate sources added yet and I just want to lay the template of the article I am writing about. --Cities Aviv (talk) 16:29, 27 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Vyno.jr (09:51, 28 November 2023)
How can I add a new article here --Vyno.jr (talk) 09:51, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- Vyno.jr Wikipedia strongly advises putting in time working on improving existing articles before attempting to create a new article. That way, one learns rules and guidelines. Look at articles on topics you know to see if more information can be added, or wrong information removed. For any new article research references first (see WP:42) and use WP:YFA to create a referenced draft to submit to a reviewer. David notMD (talk) 12:15, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Semi?
Hi, David. Would you like this page semiprotected for a while? Bishonen | tålk 14:12, 28 November 2023 (UTC).
- Bishonen The offensive IP has been blocked for 48 hours. Let's hope that ends the brouhaha. David notMD (talk) 15:26, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
- I know — I blocked 'em. My thinking was more that they can usually get hold of another IP. But it makes sense to wait and see what happens. Bishonen | tålk 15:42, 28 November 2023 (UTC).

Multiple micronutrient supplement Looking to improve for translation. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- Doc James The values in the product do not all match up with either the US or EU recommendations for pregnant women. One way to enrich this table would be to add columns showing the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowances and the EU Population Reference Intakes for pregnant women. This would beg the question as to how to address the differences if the difference are large. For example, US and EU recommend 600 IU for vitamin D but this table had 200 IU. David notMD (talk) 20:44, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yah they give explanations for why they used lower iron amounts (vitamin C improves absorption). I imagine their are explanations for the other values. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:47, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Found it[2] The WHO recommends 5 ucg/day (200 IU) for pregnant women and most others. Page 54. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:54, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Doc James Yes, vitamin D was the most distant from US and EU, so good to see where that came from. I considered folate at 400 as significantly lower than US and EU, both at 600, but the latter two were for dietary folate equivalents, with the understanding that a supplement has 1.7X the bioavailability of foor sourced. Ref 2, page 54, pointed out that the product in the table incorporated 400 of supplement, equivalent to 680 of dietary folate equivalent, and thus not lower than the other two values. I saw also that the ref your listed has 55 mg vitamin C for pregnancy and 70 for lactating. Let me know if you feel that the article would be better with US and EU columns abd explanation for the differences. I would be willing to work on that. David notMD (talk) 03:31, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
- Yes that would be great. Create an account and I will give you editing privileges. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 16:20, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
