Awarded to those who have given a great answer on the Teahouse Question Forum. A good answer is one that fits in with the Teahouse expectations of proper conduct: polite, patient, simple, relies on explanations not links, and leaves a talkback notification. | |
I just had to dig out one of these old and unused badges and work out how it operated. I just chuckled at this reply of yours. It brightened my evening.

A new source on Cerebral Folate Deficiency
[edit]Good evening, David! I came across a new review article about Cerebral folate deficiency - in your opinion, is this review good enough to be cited/quoted in the CFD article? Review: PMID 30916789 Hope you are doing fine! Cheers from Russia, ---CopperKettle 14:52, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- Definitely a valid ref, and provides info to improve the CFD article. David notMD (talk) 16:37, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, great! I'm slowly reading this review and am putting some quotes from it at Talk:Cerebral folate deficiency --CopperKettle 17:05, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your edits of Niacin. There was a minimal dose specified to produce flushing. However, it was not specified whether it was an oral dose or IM/IV dose. Probably the oral one. If so, we should clarify that. Do you have a good source at hand? Also, it seems that for IM/IV path, even doses as small as 10 mg are enough to produce flushing. Don't you know where can we find the source for that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Maxim Masiutin (talk • contribs) 20:00, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
In a country where I live (Republic of Moldova), nicotinic acid is only available in pharmacies, as a separate substance, in injectable form only. The oral form is only available in small doses as a vitamin-B complex together with other vitamins. In Russia, situation is the same - the main form is injectable, albeit the tablets of nicotinic acid are avaialable as a serarate substance, the injectable form is more widespread. That's why I have asked to you emphasize on the form of niacin. By the way, I have substantially edited the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CYP4F2 today. Could you please review it, maybe you may have some ideas on how can I improve it? Thank you very much in advance for your feedback. -- Maxim Masiutin (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:38, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

-Liancetalk/contribs 06:05, 10 March 2022 (UTC)- Quite an impressive article! Thank you for your contributions :) As you probably know, an editor of your experience can go ahead and move drafts directly to the mainspace instead of waiting for the often months-long queue - but there is nothing stopping you from continuing to use AfC if it is your preference. Best, -Liancetalk/contribs 06:15, 10 March 2022 (UTC)
- Liance Yes, >40,000 edits, but only my third attempt at creating an article. Planning to send it to AfC made me be more conscientious. I am going to let this 'age' for four months, then with fresh eyes, prep for a GA nomination. David notMD (talk) 11:40, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
citation needed
[edit]About your comment here about leaving the citation needed rather than deleting. I find that the prevailing attitude in the circle of editors who work with medical articles the most is that statements without citations must be immediately deleted. This is not exactly my belief, but it is the prevailing one. It is what it is. MarshallKe (talk) 12:38, 14 March 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Sesame allergy
[edit]On 18 September 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Sesame allergy, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that because of the increasing prevalence of sesame allergy, the U.S. will join the EU and Canada in 2023 in instituting mandatory food labeling? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sesame allergy. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Sesame allergy), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Hi David. I know you were hit by COVID and I hope you are all recovered (I saw your recent post at the Teahouse). I'm not sure whether you intend to start working on Mertbiol's suggestions but I'd be happy to help with the workload, probably from Sunday onwards. Is that OK and if so are there any bits you would specially like to hand over to me? Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:53, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Mike Turnbull, Mertbiol - Thank you both for offer and patience. Actually, intending to start my replies to the GA review today. As for the medical path, first I got COVID and started Paxlovid. Five days later my wife tested positive and started Paxlovid. Five days after ending treatment, I tested positive again (am now negative again), and five days after my wife's treatment she tested positive again (and then today, negative!). Luckily, rebound symptoms were not too severe for either of us, and no evidence at present for post-COVID symptoms. David notMD (talk) 15:59, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yes that Nirmatrelvir/ritonavir#Rebound is quite common and one of the reasons that I don't think that therapy will be a long-term winner. Provided one is vaccinated I don't think most people need anti-virals as well. My own infection with omicron earlier this year proved to be mild, fortunately. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:06, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

I have created an article for the above individual, completely oblivious until the final seconds of posting it to the mainframe, that there was an ongoing draft article for her. My apologises if I have trodden on any toes - purely accidental. Two thoughts - firstly, obviously anyone is welcome to add to the article I have created from information in the draft; secondly, I am slightly puzzled as to why a draft article has remained as such for years, and so many editors have added to it, without it ever 'going live'. Anyhow, we are where we are. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:16, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Derek R Bullamore my editing involvement in this was strictly drive-by; I have no skin in this game. David notMD (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
BluesRock007 You had an abandoned draft created by someone else back in 2020 (Draft:Eliza Neals) unabandoned earlier this month. Separately, User:Derek R Bullmore created an article about her, leaving a note on your Talk page to this effect. A third editor removed the connection to the draft, so that it now forwards to the article. What I suggest is that you look at the article and see if it can be improved. Although the draft no longer exists, if you click on Veiw history at the existing article, you can see and retrieve the content you had previously added to the defunct draft. I suggest you copy interesting parts of this to your Sandbox and then see if those parts are worth adding to the article. David notMD (talk) 15:40, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Ericnex13
[edit]This looks to me to be unarguably disruptive editing. His failure to provide useful edit summaries is incidental, so I'm not clear why you considered it worthy of mention? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 16:31, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- John Maynard Friedman Ericnex13's account is less than a week old. Yes, all edits to date have been reverted. Ericnex13 has been warned. I am willing to see if behavior improves before recommending blocking. P.S. Coincidently, I live in Maynard, Massachusetts. Maynard was a common surname in England, dating back centuries (also as Mainard). In our instance, Amory Maynard moved to a small community informally named Assabet Village in 1846 and built a large woolen mill. When it came time to apply to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for a forma name in 1871, given that he employed most of the people and owned most of the housing, it was "unanimous" that the town was named after him. David notMD (talk) 06:01, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't suggesting a block, my concern was more of giving mixed messages. Water under the bridge now.
- Thank you for the note re Maynard. (I guess you've read User:John Maynard Friedman#My user-name?) See also Viscount Maynard and William Maynard, 1st Baron Maynard. I've read a bit about the Keynes family name but hadn't really pursued the Maynard, so thank you for that. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 10:44, 30 March 2023 (UTC)

Teahouse thread
[edit]Hi, David, just to give more context to what happened in that Teahouse thread: The original post was made by The Anti-patroll, but the second was made by The Anto-patroll, a completely separate user who was registered *after* both the initial post and my reply to it. Both of the second user's edits were referencing the long-term abuse account Willy on Wheels; it's almost certainly not *that* LTA, but there are other LTAs that like to imitate that one. Either way, it's an extremely strong indicator that it was a vandalism-only account, attempting to perform a joe job on the original Teahouse poster, hoping a hasty admin would mix up the two due to the similar usernames and block the wrong account. Given this context, I don't believe it is unduly harsh, nor a record for blocking an obviously bad-faith account (and that it would take quite a bit more than "I was being childish and stupid and immature, and will never do it again" to get them unblocked), but as always you're welcome to seek a second opinion or whatever else you want to do. Hypervitaminose A

- Nestorum This is English Wikipedia. A machine translation of your question: "Concerning this subject, is it possible to know the reasons for hypervitanimosis when the patient does not consume any dietary supplement? Thank you in advance for your help." The article Hypervitaminosis A and other sources identify arctic mammal liver and some other animal liver such as shark, large tuna and others as causing hypervitaminosis A when consumed by humans. See also WP:42 for an understanding of what is meant by independent and reliable references. [edit]Multiple micronutrient supplement Looking to improve for translation. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 19:58, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- Doc James The values in the product do not all match up with either the US or EU recommendations for pregnant women. One way to enrich this table would be to add columns showing the U.S. Recommended Dietary Allowances and the EU Population Reference Intakes for pregnant women. This would beg the question as to how to address the differences if the difference are large. For example, US and EU recommend 600 IU for vitamin D but this table had 200 IU. David notMD (talk) 20:44, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Yah they give explanations for why they used lower iron amounts (vitamin C improves absorption). I imagine their are explanations for the other values. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:47, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Found it[1] The WHO recommends 5 ucg/day (200 IU) for pregnant women and most others. Page 54. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:54, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
- Doc James Yes, vitamin D was the most distant from US and EU, so good to see where that came from. I considered folate at 400 as significantly lower than US and EU, both at 600, but the latter two were for dietary folate equivalents, with the understanding that a supplement has 1.7X the bioavailability of foor sourced. Ref 2, page 54, pointed out that the product in the table incorporated 400 of supplement, equivalent to 680 of dietary folate equivalent, and thus not lower than the other two values. I saw also that the ref your listed has 55 mg vitamin C for pregnancy and 70 for lactating. Let me know if you feel that the article would be better with US and EU columns abd explanation for the differences. I would be willing to work on that. [edit]Hello David, I have been a professor of music and while I have wider interests, most of the articles I read related to music and musicians. How do I start with an article that I remember needed some editing? --Cscottfree21 (talk) 16:21, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- Cscottfree21 Within certain limits (some articles are semi-locked or locked from edits by new or newish accounts), anyone can edit any article. Keep in mind that any addition of facts requires verification via published references. For musicians (and any other people articles), what that person puts on their own website or social media or press releases or interviews are not considered independent references. General advice is be bold in your edits, but if reverted (reversed), start a discussion on the Talk page of the article in a goal of reaching consensus. For each edit, include a brief Edit summary in the space provided at the bottom, to describe what you did.
- See WP:NMUSIC and WP:BLP for some guidelines. David notMD (talk) 09:44, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

COI Tag revision
[edit]Hi @DavidnotMD, You reversed my removal of the COI tag on the article about Nina Kossman. The COI tag was put there in early May of last year when one of the editors of the article (Hannayana) was still active on it; it was this editor who created an impression of "COI". This editor is not longer active; in fact, Hannayana has not edited this article since then, thus the activity that caused the COI has been stopped. Another point: Bonadea, the editor who put the COI tag, was not one of the frequent editors of the article; his only contribution to the article was the COI tag. (It seems that he is no longer active as an editor on Wikipedia.) Since the COI has been resolved, I would appreciate it if you reinstate my removal of the COI tag. Happy New Year! Henrylukas12 (talk) 02:39, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- Henrylukas12 To my understanding, a COI tag is appropriate if an editor with a known personal connection to the subject of the article has made a significant series of edits to the article. Just because that person has ceased to edit does not mean the COI is no longer valid. If over time, other edits have modified, added, subtracted content, so that the impact has been diluted, only then is removing a COI appropriate. In this instance, User:Hannayana made scores of edits to the NK article between February 2022 and April 2023 and there have been only minor changes since then. [edit]Hello @David notMD, thanks for your help on Maharajas' Express. The teahouse discussion is archived and I noticed that you already addressed the issue. I couldn't write there, so just a quick message to thank you for helping out.
Apart from the content you trimmed, I removed one extra line - An on-board boutique offers souvenirs.
I felt this was not required. I thought about adding a 'citation needed' at the end, but felt its better to remove this line since it appeared promotional and not too relevant for mention. I couldn't find any WP:RS citation for it either. If you feel that should be on the page, please let me know and I will add it back.

[edit]Hi @David notMD,
I just made few edits in this page adding few links and sources. I have not submitted it for review yet. Can you please review the page "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:T_S_Nandakumar". it would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance for your help.
Thank You! Ashvik08122023 (talk) 05:44, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- Ashvik08122023 First, I am not a Reviewer of drafts, just a Teahouse Host who advises. However, in looking at Draft:T S Nandakumar my thinking is that it needs revision. Naming a long list of people he has played with does not contribute to his notability (notability is not contagious). The many awards are considered too minor by Wikipedia to contribute to notability, although there is still a benefin in including perhaps the most important 4-5. Perhaps the best you can do is submit again and see what the next reviewer writes. If that person declines it, you can ask for a bit more guidance on that person's Talk page. Question from Joao.frias84 (21:11, 14 February 2024)
[edit]Dear mentor,
I am new to Wikipedia, and am in the process of writing a bio text for a user. Because my account is new, I have been doing small edits in pages that are part of my field of expertise. I believe that I would be able to create a page with valid information and relevant information, if my user has at least 10 verified edits. Would you be able to provide me with some tips on how to write a biography page (including a rectangular section with photos and bio information in the right hand side)?
Also, given that you are more experienced than me, would you be so kind as to let me know whether it is possible to start writing and save a draft page without publishing it? Or would you advise me to just write the page in one go?
Looking forward to your reply.
Best regards --Joao.frias84 (talk) 21:11, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

[edit]The company I'm just starting with doesn't have a Wikipedia page, I'd like to create one. But I saw in the rules that it's not likely to be published. Question from Michael Eamon Herbst (09:05, 24 February 2024)
[edit]Hello, how do I add a second article on Wikipedia? The Sandbox leads me to the 1st article. How do I create another one that is based on another subject? --Michael Eamon Herbst (talk) 09:05, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Michael Eamon Herbst You can create either a second Sandbox (Sandbox2) or create a draft with the draft prefix (preferred). See Wikipedia:Drafts to start process. Be aware that "Publish changes" saves the draft as a draft. As with what is in your current Sandbox, when you think you are done, submiting the draft puts it in a backlog of drafts waiting for a reviewer, as part of the Articles for Creation (AfC) process. The backlog - now approaching 2,000 - is not a queue, so a submitted draft may be reviewed in days, weeks, or (sadly) months. You can continue to work on it while waiting for the reviewer. Drafts can be accepted, declined, rejected (as in not good enough to try improving it) and Speedy deleted. Reviewers of declined drafts give one or more reasons. Such drafts can be improved and resubmitted. Most often, it will get a different reviewer, who may decline it for a different reason. David notMD (talk) 10:46, 24 February 2024 (UTC)

How do I contribute to a topic within which I operate and where I feel contributions, sources or facts that may be related to our business are relevant? --Ukvc (talk) 12:05, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ukvc If this is about Draft:Silicon Roundabout Ventures, you were asked on your Talk page if you have a paid or personal connection to the business. Either way, that must be stated on your User page. If no connection, then state that on your own Talk page. See WP:NCORP for advice on how to qualify a business as Wikipedia-notable. Almost all content must be verified by independent references (some simple factual content can be referenced by the company's own website). Unreferenced personal knowledge cannot be added. Same for what the company or its senior management says about itself (website, mission statement, financial dealings, press releases, interviews, etc.). References that confirm that SRV invested in various start-ups contribute nothing toward establishing notability. David notMD (talk) 12:16, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- See also WP:TOOSOON. David notMD (talk) 12:35, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- On Silicon Roundabout Ventures I'm still unclear how to state the connection (as in what formula to actually type in). But beyond that it was in areas (like Deep Tech) where I operate. 87.75.37.54 (talk) 13:29, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ukvc First, remember to log in, or else your communications show up as an IP number. The question is what is your connection to Silicon? Employee? Consultant? Those are paid (see WP:PAID). Personal, as in you want to create the article because you know employees? That counts as conflict of interest (see WP:COI) Either way, state your connection on your User page before doing any more editing. To use the paid format, inside double curly brackets {{ }} put paid|user=Ukvc|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName and the info will show up. David notMD (talk) 18:17, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
New article on an Intergovermental Organization
[edit]Hello David!
I'm working at an intergovernmental organization that have 11 member states.
I've brought up to my supervisors that having a factual article of our organization will be helpful in helping people understand what we do.
As such, they have allowed me to do some research.
We aim to be an uncontroversial organization whose goal is to improve trade and investment among our member countries and we conduct activities that aim to contribute to that.
What I would like to ask is: - can I submit an article? - what is the process like, how is it different from submitting articles of private companies? - there are government sources from member states about our organization as well, will that be considered as secondary sources? - can we cite our own publications for stuff like the list of our past Secretaries-general/activities?
Sorry for the long question but I really want to do this as right as possible! Byrnachi (talk) 05:08, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Byrnachi Government and non-gov organizations have to meet similar requirements as commercial companies. See WP:NCORP for establishing notability. Also see WP:42 for standards for refs. Employees can submit draft via the Articles for Creation (AfC) process described at WP:YFA, but first you needs to declare your paid relationship. See WP:PAID]. Content must be referenced. What the org says about itself (website, press releases, etc.) cannot be used as references. I hope this is enough to get you started. David notMD (talk) 10:16, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- To use the paid format, on your User page, inside double curly brackets {{ }} put paid|user=Byrnachi|employer=InsertName and the info will show up. David notMD (talk) 10:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! I'll try my best to keep it as factual as possible!
- Just one more question, are there any cases where primary sources can be referenced, like the organization's mandate, member states, or strategies? Or would you cite a secondary source instead? Byrnachi (talk) 15:48, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Byrnachi An organization's website (primary) can be a reference for some simple fact, such as location of headquarters, list of member states, but not mandate or strategies. David notMD (talk) 01:16, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Question from Aliciah3 on List of Munchausen by proxy cases (17:22, 14 April 2024)
[edit]I’m a psychologist, and I have looked over all the medical records for gypsy Rose, Blanchard, and she is not a victim of much House by proxy her mother and herself were both involved in grifting and fraud fraudulent games with nonprofit organizations. There was a case in Missouri against both of them for this. They both knew that gypsy was able to walk and they used the wheelchair as a way of gaining trips and money and any other notable item they could from these nonprofit organizations.
Also, all of gypsies medical reports state that gypsy had a chromosome disorder that required her to be seen by the doctors from a very early age for problems that this chromosome disorder does display. I think we might want to remove her name from the Munchhausen by proxy because legally she never had Munchhausen by proxy. --Aliciah3 (talk) 17:22, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Question from Aliciah3 on List of Munchausen by proxy cases (17:26, 14 April 2024)
[edit]I think that it’s notable to remove gypsy Rose Blanchard from the Munchhausen by proxy victim list as she was not a victim of Munchhausen by proxy she actually had a chromosome disorder which made her mother have to give her certain medical treatment for various ailments from that chromosome disorder.
Also, gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother both knew she could walk and did not require a wheelchair, but they used the wheelchair to get these nonprofit organizations to pay for various trips and cruises and other items along with giving them a house and paying all their bills. Both of them were under investigation for fraud and fraudulent schemes by the state of Missouri, because the state of Missouri had caught onto the grifting that they were doing, and the fraud they were committing with all of these various nonprofits . I think it’s notable to remove her from the Munchhausen by proxy victim list because she is not a victim of Munchhausen by proxy. She was a performer in her mother fraudulent schemes that she went along with if you watch the trailers for the lifetime series, her cousin even says that she used to push her cousins around in the wheelchair. Everybody knew that gypsy everybody knew she used a wheelchair but didn’t exactly know why because they did not know about the fraud that her mother and herself were committing. --Aliciah3 (talk) 17:26, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Question from Cerjjapan on Milton Hebald (08:02, 20 April 2024)
[edit]Hi David notMD, I recently made an addition to this wiki entry as I felt it strange that it only included Milton’s daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter, and no mention of me, his grandson who was very much a part of his life. Why is the great-granddaughter intentionally mentioned here? When she knew him she was, and still is, just a child. I also don’t feel it’s appropriate that her name is explicitly given.
Also, no disrespect, but how did you become the arbiter of what is written on my grandfather’s Wikipedia entry? Did you know him?
I look forward to hearing back from you. --Cerjjapan (talk) 08:02, 20 April 2024 (UTC)

My idea would be to improve it and use more of my own writting, as I understand that was problem. The source seemed legitimate and I cited with as much info. as I could get. But without the original text to start from is even more difficult. Do you know how could I retrieve it? Do you have other suggestions of things I could use to improve the page in view of the DYK nomination?
Also, I thought the procedure was to put a tag indication that the section needs sources, not to remove it directly. Is that okay? I was a bit surprised...
Thanks again! FranGallego33 (talk) 18:24, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- FranGallego33 Copyright infringement is a cardinal sin for Wikipedia. The Administrator who removed it from the article history will not return it. If I remember correctly, the Edit summary named the sites that were copied, so you have the option of going to those, copying content to your computer, revising so that the facts are now expressed in your own words, then pasting that into the article with the websites as references. Light paraphrasing is not enough. The DYK reviewer will detemine if your earlier edits that expanded the article were sufficient to meet the 5X qualification. David notMD (talk) 20:18, 28 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hello David,
- thanks for your reply. After several hours, I wrote every line of the section myself, paraphrasing as much as I could. Not only that but I also linked all the relevant words to other pages. Minutes after that someone has deleted the whole section because I wrote the reference in the heading, which takes less time to solve than writting the explanation.
- Am I doing something wrong? Is it not allowed to use that source?
- Not only that but this editor has removed all the links with the references because I "dumped" them. I explained in the talk page what the links are and for what...
- Im sorry for bothering you this much but Im a bit surprised with this way of doing things...
- Thanks FranGallego33 (talk) 02:22, 29 April 2024 (UTC)
- FranGallego33 Drmies is a very experienced editor/Administrator. Your edits are running afoul of basic Wikipedia rules. External links is reserved for a few items that don't work as references, for example for a living person, that person's website. Would any of what Drmies deleted there have value as references? Section titles do not get references. The purpose of a ref is to validate a factual statement in the text; titles are not factual statements. - The article also has blocks of text that are essay like rather than encyclopaedic, and without references. For example, who's words are these? "Its collaborators sought a consistent mix of management practices with theory. Their focus was on the development of market relations, commodity production, law of value, for economic democracy, etc. In the process of studying these categories, the institute accumulated experience in analyzing the economics of socialism, which allowed talk about the need for deep reform of economic methods formation, the mechanism of economic functioning as a whole, and the entire economic management system. However, the proposed interpretation of socialism became so inconsistent with the official one that in 1971 the Institute received criticism from the political authorities and organizational conclusions, whom "reorganized" the institute by demoting Gatovsky and others." - Hello David,
- thanks again!
- Yes, I totally understand the reasons for the edits. What surprised me was the fact of deleting instead of leaving a banner asking for sources, a comment on the talk page or something that may give me a bit of a head start, instead of completely deleting the text.
- The reason I had put the citation in the header was that was my main source for the whole section. So I thought that by putting it there it would encompass the whole section. I will rewrite it even if I have to repeat the source several times then.
- The same with the sentences you have taken. They came from another source that was already cited and in the Biblio, so I didn't put them not to repeat the citation several times.
- I do not know Gatovsky either, I just found an article with two sentences and an interesting claim. I thought it would be nice to recover someone from oblivion. Finding sources for him is very difficult and that's why I tend to repeat them.
- I'll try to upload everything, properly cited, even if I have to repeat sources so there's no doubt that the text is original. Regarding the external links, I understand that too, I'll try to get the citations and leave only the links for which I cannot cite.
- It was just the dramatism of such deletions instead of leaving a comment so I can improve them with a bit of time. Having to write a whole section for an edit that can take me a couple of minutes to solve it's a bit discouraging...
- Thanks again, you're super helpful! FranGallego33 (talk) 12:20, 29 April 2024 (UTC)

Question from Shajidul Hoque's on User talk:Shajidul Hoque's (12:30, 1 May 2024)
[edit]why my draft has been rejected can you tell me or suggest me something on it --Shajidul Hoque's (talk) 12:30, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
- Shajidul Hoque's I am not a Wikipedia Administrator, so I cannot see your content that was Speedy Deleted. The Admin who did this described it as "Unambiguous advertising or promotion: self written vanity page", which is forbidden. The Admin also provided links to see WP:COI, WP:RS, WP:Notability (people) to further explain.
- Wikipedia has articles about people, not blogs or social media content or websites by people. To qualify for an article, there must be publications about a person written by people with no personal or paid connection to that person. People are advised against trying to create an article about themselves (or a topic of personal interest to themselves) (see WP:AUTO). All facts in an article must be verified by references. I hope this explains what happened to your efforts. David notMD (talk) 14:40, 1 May 2024 (UTC)
Tone on the Talk pages of the Vitamin articles
[edit]Please forgive my tone on the Talk pages of the Vitamin articles if you find it somewhat too harsh. I appreciate your contributions very much and in no way wanted to offend you, I want to make articles better, but don't have enough knowledge to make that myself, so I express my concerns on the Talk pages, but sometimes the tone may be too criticistic, because I sometimes don't know how to put it down in a friendlier manner. Maxim Masiutin (talk) 02:02, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- Not a problem. At my end, the specifics of what you want added are not covered in any references I find, or else the absorption physiology is so complicated (active and passive absorption, vitamins bound to transporter proteins in circulation but also not bound), that what you want is impossible to state and verify. I will do what I can to improve absorption text and refs, but not quickly. David notMD (talk) 02:07, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! If there are no sources yet, let us keep the articles as is, but if eventually you will find a new sources in the future, please consider adding that information. Maxim Masiutin (talk) 02:30, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- Can you reply on the talk pages where there is no sources, so that we will not forget that in the future or the other editors will eventually find this data and fill this up? Maxim Masiutin (talk) 06:58, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
- I also had other observations, such as unit conversion for Vitamin A or substantiated vs unsubstantiated claims for Vitamin C. Maxim Masiutin (talk) 06:59, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Lev Gatovsky again
[edit]Hello David,
It's me again, after a user rejected the nomination the other day I got the motivation to go back to the page and try to edit as good as I can to make it comply with the standards. Today I see that somebody deleted all of the work done during these months, work that had already being seen by other editors including you. So, if you don't mind, I'm going to paste the message I have left to the editor that rejected the nomination, and I ask you the same thing I ask him at the end:
"Hello,
I am the user that has done most of the work regarding Lev Gatovsky's page. I agree that Political economy terms regarding soviet affairs can be frankly difficult to understand sometimes. My idea was of course to try to "dumb it down" a bit for the common reader that is not used to this type of talking. This can be done with time, summarizing the content and linking it to other terms that appear in other articles. But I dont think being difficult to understand makes it necessarily bad, as there are plenty of wikipedia articles that have very complex topics as well for the common reader.
I do agree some sections are maybe too long for the relevance of its content, and my plan as I said was to summarize them even more when I had the time, but at least I had them there. These texts that I had to translate manually from articles of the time written in Russian (a language I do not speak), and then I wrote them with my own words (except the ones that are properly sourced as a quotation block). The reason for why there aren't many sources is just that: there aren't many sources from him, or at least no easily available. So I had to repeat the same one several times (another experienced editor suggested me that this was better than just referencing once a whole section).
My personal theory is that he was censored by the Soviet government later in his life and thats why is difficult to find material. That is the same reason there is almost no biographical information about him, as I had to take it bit by bit from different sources. All of this was explained in the talk page of the article.
The early life section was not my own idea, but the work of another experienced editor, and the fact that it mentions at the beginning that he was jewish is that I was not sure where to mention it in the text. As I said, I didnt have enough material for the biographical part. But as an economist, I think his work is definetely relevant and important to be discussed. The fact that he was director of the soviet institute of economics for so many years kind of indicates the importance he had on the field.
Still, as I said, this work I have been doing mainly alone, so I havent had the time to work on it properly, which I was counting on doing along this month.
After all of this I guess you can understand my surprise when I see that another user has deleted almost everything reverting the page to its original state. Leaving a claim that is indeed false: he was not the first soviet economist to bring up the objetive rules (whatever that means) of soviet economy.
I understand the rejection of the nomination, but I hope you can also understand what a waste would be to censor this person for a second time in his life. I hope you can help me bring back the page to its recent state, so I can continue working on implementing your suggestions.
Best."
As always, thank you in advance for your help and patience. FranGallego33 (talk) 15:44, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Your recent reversions of a table on the Vitamin K page to remove metric conversions was unconstructive. Only 3% of the world's population understands Imperial measurements and it is standard practice to provide Metric conversions on Wikipedia topics.

Bobbie R. Allen
[edit]Hello David, I'd definitely like to keep the family photographs of Ensign Bobbie R. Allen and Lt(jg) Arlene E. Allen as well as the historical family photograph of Joe and Dolly Allen and their families.
The photograph of my Great-grandparents and their family are an important source for this article because the photograph displays the life of East Texas families in the early 1900's and it's a valid way to communicate Bobbie R. Allen's unusual Biography.
Regarding inclusion of the photographs of Ensign Bobbie R. Allen and Lt(jg) Arlene E. Allen, the photo's included are also important references as they both were U.S. Navy officers in WWII. The photos support the Biography but I could possibly try and change the category of Own Work to U.S. Govt. Photograph as their photos were technically created by a Navy Photographer. Wdallen49 (talk) 11:01, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Wdallen49 A common mistake by new-to-Wikipedia editors is to declare photos they have as "Own work" when not. Edit at Commons to correct the error. I have no opinion (nor intended action) on the draft going forward. David notMD (talk) 11:06, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

B vitamins Safety Info
[edit]Hi David, re https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_B6#Dietary_recommendations Ref 35 of the requested link I gave you on my Talk page is the 2023 revised European Vitamin B6 Upper Limit. As per that message, I should make wp a low priority, yet there are severe consequences of not making current ULs and safety info readily available to busy readers scanning wp for ULs, and you rolled back my warning par without replacing it with something better despite that I gave you the requested ref in that msg.
I note you arranged the DRIs for all B vitamins - thanks for that work! And it is at least consistent to start with the minimum vit reqs, then followed by the safety info, especially if ULs are not available for all vits. Yet I suggest the main danger for most wp readers are excess vits due to B vits being added to NoDoz, Corn Flakes, and many (most??) supplements. Hence I suggest:
- a long term goal should be to arrange all wp vit articles to give safety info first, followed by min / avg reqs
- the safety info should be arranged by reverse chronological order - if the European UL is more current than the USA UL, put the Europeans first
- where there is controversy or any other need for extensive reading, that should be flagged at the start of the relevant section with an unreferenced overview par (with the refs appearing in the subsequent overviewed pars).
Currently the B6 article leads with a 1998 USA UL of 100mg, with the European 2007(??) 25mg UL buried several lines below, with no mention of the 2023 European 12mg UL, and no indication for busy readers that they should read beyond the USA UL. As per my msg on my talk page, this is dangerous. I will give you time to receive this current msg and edit as you see fit, otherwise I will just revert B6 back to my added par - I could add the 2023 European ref, but given your msg on my talk page said you were not aware of any changes since 2008, and your extensive work on the B vits (thanks again!), I hope you would want to add that ref yourself. Your response might be to instead require me to learn to jump thru the wp procs you deem necessary, but I say again I don't have the time, so I would pre-empt any edit war by appealing to other senior editors with the comment that wp needs to make it easy for concerned readers to improve dangerous articles as a higher priority than perfect consistency and wp procedure.
Hopefully we can first make the page safe, then make it consistent and cited, in that order of priority. Cheers & thanks, BU BenevolentUncle (talk) 02:10, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks David, your revisions were perfect - pleasure working with you.
- Perhaps the only outstanding issue is (further?) warning that many older multivitamins sold as recently as a few months(?) ago (in Australia) had dosages totaling higher that revised ULs, and that there can(??) be side-effects that might be significant even though they may fly below the radar of researchers checking for serious illnesses. Not at all sure how this could / should be done without POV / OR, yet as per msg on my Talk page, it is serious - I will leave it in your capable hands as you see fit.
- A tedious consequence is that Pharma is massively lowering some doses (e.g. B6 and Zn), and a cynical person might think this is so that they can sell supplements like candy without fear of causing OD. E.g. I noticed* my fav Vit C + Zn is being run out at half price (I bought 5 jars :-), with the new Swisse 'Immune' version having with Zn reduced from 50mg to 5mg. Fair enough, I s'pose, given that frequent dosing throughout the day Might be more efficacious - I'll just quarter the 50mg pills :-) (I think I read that recent research suggests the C+Zn only works for the Zn-deficient, but I will happily stick with my fav placebo.) If you notice any non-OR stuff tracking multi-vit dosages, it might make a useful article.
- (*It was noticing this run-out that caused me to check vit dosage recommendations, and thus realise why my friend suffered for 18 months before a very alert GP reviewed her B6 consumption. I am kicking myself that I did not check wp earlier, and thank you for allowing well gate-kept speedy revision once I noticed.) BenevolentUncle (talk) 10:29, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
Question from CherryDolphin (21:55, 24 July 2024)
[edit]Hello,
I am a newbie here and need a little help please.
I have just updated a page : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_English_women%27s_football_transfers_summer_2024
but I noticed that the person "Alison Hall" linked to by the link is not the Alison Hall who is a women's football (soccer) player that I am referring to. (I don't think I introduced this error, it seemed to be a prior problem.)
I have searched around for how to remove incorrect link, without finding how to do this.
Can you help, point me in the right direction because this is not accurate as it stands.
Thanks,
CherryDolphin. --CherryDolphin (talk) 21:55, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello David. This is my First article so please help to write and publish my article under the Wikipedia Guideline. --Bharati Agam (talk) 08:20, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- Bharati Agam Mentors and Teahouse Hosts advise, but do not co-author. I always advise new editors to put in weeks to months trying to improve existing articles before attepmting to create an article. I cleaned-up your draft and added a tag that allows you to submit it to AfC. David notMD (talk) 12:28, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
Question from ZoeyThePupper3 (18:23, 6 August 2024)
[edit]what articles can i edit? --ZoeyThePupper3 (talk) 18:23, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- ZoeyThePupper3 A very small percentage of articles are protected (see Wikipedia:Protection policy) as indicated by a lock symbol right side top. Otherwise, you can edit any article. Just remember the reference requirements (WP:42). David notMD (talk) 20:25, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Jansen-de Vries Syndrome article
[edit]Would you move references 4-6 into the external links section? I'm new to this, but when I read the article about notability, case studies seem to fit criteria in my mind ("notability is an attempt to assess whether the topic has "gained sufficiently significant attention by the world at large and over a period of time""). Thanks for your help! DEF2051 (talk) 13:46, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- DEF2051 No. Med/health articles call for re3ferences that comply with WP:MEDRS. Case studies do not belong anywhere. What is needed is non-journal publications that can be used to verify more information about the syndrome - what are the signs and symptoms, a bit on history of when the gene defect was identified as cause, any treatments, etc. The article needs to b e longer than just the one sentence.
User pages and categories
[edit]Hello, David notMD, and thanks for your many contributions to the WP:Teahouse. In this edit, you mentioned that "User pages should not have... Categories", but surely that is not the case? See Jimbo Wales, or this search, or this one or this . Mathglot (talk) 09:24, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
- I am corrected. David notMD (talk) 11:50, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
Images
[edit]Can you put my images back because I need it. On Draft:Supercars of the World. I want there because not all the people know these cars. So please put it back. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NinjaMiura (talk • contribs) 12:14, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- NinjaMiura If you manage to get you draft accepted (very unlikely for lack of references and non-encyclopedic tone instead of neutral point of view (WP:NPOV), then you can add images. Sentences such as "This is a exotic speedy cool sports car." and "Pagani has been a fan favorite for a long time." are your personal opinion, and have no business being in an article. Remove all personal opinion from the draft. David notMD (talk) 13:25, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
comment: refs needed for education
[edit]Hey, thanks for your feedback, what kind of references can i use? Bluntsupremaci (talk) 16:47, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Bluntsupremaci What is needed is a published article or articles about him that confirm the degrees earned. Otherwise, how will anyone know if you are just making this up. David notMD (talk) 03:04, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from ChrisDiplock (09:48, 27 September 2024)
[edit]Hello David,
I want to start editing pages but my first edit I want to be the disclosure that I work for Peter James.
I have reviewed the documentation that suggests I must use the format:This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by name of employer on behalf of name of client for their contributions to Wikipedia. |
This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by {{{employer}}} on behalf of Peter_James_(writer) for their contributions to Wikipedia. |
- ChrisDiplock Away for a week, so I hope you made a choice. Really, either good, or do Peter James twice. Kudos for declaring PAID. David notMD (talk) 15:58, 2 October 2024 (UTC)
Help
[edit]Do you know how to make references on Wikipedia? Because I'm doing it in my "Draft:Supercars of the World" article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NinjaMiura (talk • contribs) 14:34, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- NinjaMiura See Help:Referencing for beginners for how to create refs and insert those into the text. Also, for when there are articles about supercars, those articles will have refs. You can click on Edit a the top of the article and then copy the refs you need to paste into your draft. David notMD (talk) 09:41, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Also, Wikilinks terms such as Corvette only once per article. David notMD (talk) 19:21, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Kestrel2Zero (09:37, 29 October 2024)
[edit]Hello David - Please could you help me with some questions that I have posted on the 'Talk Page'? I have pretty much competed the first draft of the material I would like to improve sufficiently to meet Wikipedia's guidelines for uploading to a public page. if you would be kind enough to guide me through the next steps I would be most grateful. - Thanks - Nigel --Kestrel2Zero (talk) 09:37, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
Question from Kestrel2Zero (09:44, 3 November 2024)
[edit]Good morning, David
I have left a couple of messages for Johannes Maximilian who kindly reviewed and gently declined my AfC. However it occurred to me that maybe I should. have asked you about my approach to the editing he has proposed.
Would you like me to repeat what I have asked him, or a you see it anyway. Apologies for taking up your time with the consequences of my own inexperience!
Best regards
Nigel --Kestrel2Zero (talk) 09:45, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Vitamin E you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. - ChopinChemist Just returned from travels. Ready to go. David notMD (talk) 03:41, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- ChopinChemist For unknown reason your ping to me did not show up, but I checked the Talk page this morning and saw that you have begun your review. I will begin replying to your requests and comments. David notMD (talk) 11:31, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
The article Vitamin E you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Vitamin E and Talk:Vitamin E/GA2 for issues which need to be addressed. If the article is eligible to appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page, you can nominate it within the next seven days. Question regarding my first article
[edit]Hello David, Thank you for reviewing my first draft. i was asked to make some revisions by the person who reviewed it. I have made those revisions and was wondering if you could review it before i send it for official review. Would really appreciate it. Thanks Izmaiqbalmemon (talk) 11:53, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Izmaiqbalmemon I an not officially a Reviewer. Best next step is to submit Draft:Ghulam Muhammad Memon and get a Reviewer's decision. Some of the content lacks references. Also, you were asked on your Talk page if you have a conflict-of-interest, such as a personal or official connection to him. You should answer there before submitting. Having a COI does not disqualify your from submitting the draft as long as your connection is described per WP:COI. David notMD (talk) 13:55, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Khaliil sacad on Arap (13:43, 20 November 2024)
[edit]how to upload photo --Khaliil sacad (talk) 13:43, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Photos you find on the internet are almost always copyright protected and cannot be used. If you mean a photo you yourself took, then Commons:Contributing your own work describes the process. David notMD (talk) 14:01, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
why Times Of India is not reliable
[edit]Times of India is largest Indian newspaper, and many Wikipedia articles mainly verified on Times of India citations. you can see Times Of Indian. on Wikipedia also Bantomey (talk) 12:51, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Bantomey, I think you should look here WP:TOI. Baqi:) (talk) 13:36, 7 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Bantomey TOI can be a reliable reference source, but TOI also accepts and prints press-release type content for payment. IMDb, which you added as a ref before resubmitting, is not accepted as a reliable source by Wikipedia because anyone can add to it. I expect your resubmittal will be Declined unless you can improve the references before it is reviewed. David notMD (talk) 15:41, 7 December 2024 (UTC)

Draft: Mainspring Energy
[edit]Thank you kindly for taking an interest in this article, and making some improvements to it. You will note from my past editing that I have an interest in nuclear energy/nunclear physics. This Mainspring Energy is a novel company I learned about a few weeks ago. I believe they make an excellent product, and they will become very successful. While it is a branch of chemical energy (they can burn fossil fuel, or biogas, etc.), I found their approach to energy production to be quite novel and worthy of an article. Shemsea (talk) 15:07, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Shemsea Your statement on your Talk page is sufficient to make clear that you do not have a conflict of interest. David notMD (talk) 15:18, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
Why
[edit]did you remove the bit on Mainspring with citing a reason? Lfstevens (talk) 15:13, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Lfstevens In my opinion the lengthy description of one company's efforts in this field gave undue weight to what is otherwise a general topic. There is at present Draft:Mainspring Energy which if it succeeds is a better place for specifics. David notMD (talk) 15:20, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- You might have put that in your comment. Also, until the draft is published, the info that I added seems appropriate. Lfstevens (talk) 19:27, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
Question from Kestrel2Zero (13:38, 12 December 2024)
[edit]Hello David
I am working on responses to DoubleGrazing and to Bobby Cohn at the moment and just wanted to check in with you first.
(1) DoubleGrazing gave me a 'heads up' on conflict of interest (the subject of my AfC was my father) and (2) Bobby Cohn flagged up the need for more independently verifiable citations to avoid wholesale deletions of unsubstantiated text.
For (1) and if you have time, please could you review the COI declaration that I have inserted at the beginning of my AfC and for (2), I am planning to work my way through the text paragraph by paragraph adding citations that I have been able to identify and research.
If you are able to let me know if I am on the right track, I would be most grateful.
Nigel/Kestrel2Zero --Kestrel2Zero (talk) 13:38, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Kestrel2Zero I have deleted your COI from the draft and put it on your User page and the Talk page of the article. With a declared COI you are permitted to continue to work on the draft, but if you succeed in getting it accepted, then after that you are limited to posting proposed changes on the Talk page of the article, for a non-involved editor to either implement or deny. David notMD (talk) 16:18, 12 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello David - Thanks for guiding me through these protocols and for taking action as you have done. I have made a note of limiting any future posts to the Talk Page in the event is a successful publication. Much appreciated - Nigel/Kestrel2Zero Kestrel2Zero (talk) 04:34, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

[edit]@David notMD, I just had to tell you that I almost added left-handed people to that thread in which someone asked if Republicans were welcome to edit Wikipedia. Plus one or two other descriptors that I can't recall at the moment. But I thought I'd better not overdo it, just in case, and so stopped where I did.
When I saw that you included left-handers, it was hard not to crack up. Augnablik (talk) 13:37, 18 December 2024 (UTC)
Question from Belletowne (07:50, 20 December 2024)
[edit]Hello Mentor, my name is Elsie. Happy holidays. I am ready to learn everything you can share about editing here. --Belletowne (talk) 07:50, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Belletowne I have put one of the standard Welcome tags on your Talk page. If your intention is to create articles I strongly recommend putting in significant time and effort to first work at improving existing articles, as that way you will learn by your mistakes. Your Sandbox is a good place to draft content and references before moving that to existing articles. Wikipedia:Teahouse is a good place to ask specific help questions. David notMD (talk) 11:37, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Great, let me start editing a few strong articles. Are there any specific topics I should put emphasis on? Belletowne (talk) 12:41, 20 December 2024 (UTC)
- Belletowne To paraphrase, "Edit what you know." If you have knowledge about a topic, you can look at an existing article and know what is wrong and what is missing.
