Task Force Invite (Join Us!)

You are being recruited by the Salem Witch Trials Task Force, a collaborative project committed to improving Wikipedia's coverage of the Salem witch trials. Join us!

Psdubow 21:08, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invitation, I will have look later what's about with this :)--Oxymoron83 21:33, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like you be part of our SWTTF Anti-Vandalism Unit specifically. You seem very experienced in vandalsim fighting, and you may be a good choice to head out our Unit.

Thanks,

Psdubow 22:38, 30 August 2007 (UTC) :)[reply]

After thinking a while about it, I'm not sure if I'm the appropriate person. I fight vandalism to all topics rather than one I have no special knowledge about. I think a membership couldn't change that much. If you think I'm nevertheless the right person, let me know. --Oxymoron83 21:35, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you don't want to head out the Unit that's fine. But, if you'd still like to join as a normal member of the Unit, that would be good too. Thanks, Psdubow 15:56, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The person using 74.46.211.176 seems to be making small, but inaccurate changes on the Transformers pages at random. Maybe it's a sabotage bot or just a prankster. I don't know how to report them. Can you help? Mathewignash 14:20, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mathewignash, thanks for watching him. Surely that's no bot, only a common vandal. As far as I can judge not all edits are vandalism, but I'm not an expert within this topic. The ip belongs to Frontier Communications of America. As that ip is static this makes it easier to watch him. First he has to be increasingly warned. Warning templates can be found here. If he continues vandalizing after the level 4 warning and is active at that moment you can report to WP:AIV; an appropriate template can be found there. Adding static ip to the reason would be helpful. Additionally you can read Wikipedia:Vandalism if you haven't already done so. Regards --Oxymoron83 22:08, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Flash" is just his alias. Why can't the boxer be fronted by his real name? 124.106.203.120 11:02, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've never said that he can't be fronted by his real name. But you aren't allowed to move the content using cut&paste which is required for GFDL reasons amongst others. Instead you should add this article to Wikipedia:Requested moves. --Oxymoron83 22:00, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking of vandalism, please ensure you revert to a good version.[2] Thanks. Richard001 23:49, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or just revert it back yourself - it's a wiki. I see it several times a day that users revert to a prior vandalized version. Due to the unfavourable vandalism/RC patroller ratio here this happens sometimes. Moreover I wont revert an edit I don't understand. --Oxymoron83 02:03, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chevrolet El Camino reversions

Please take a look at the edit history. Some idiot kid went on a vandalism spree and I am trying to undo it by reverting his edits. Thanks. 71.102.80.39 07:07, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Um...you just warned me about the vandalism to the El Camino article. I am not responsible for the vandalism. I have contributed to that article in the past and I would appreciate it if you would kindly strike yourwarnings from my IP talk page. 71.102.80.39 07:09, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this and this are reverts we need. --Oxymoron83 07:10, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Let's try this again: I am NOT responsible for those edits!!! Look at the other IP, for heaven's sake!!! I was attempting to undo the vandalism one entry at a time and the damned system credited ME with vandalizing the site! 71.102.80.39 07:12, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So please be more careful when editing wikipedia. And I don't think the system is responsible for your edits. Have a look at the welcome page and use the Sandbox for test edits.--Oxymoron83 07:20, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I used to edit Wikipedia on a constant basis with more than 20,000 edits and six features to my credit. I quit back in January. I'd thought of returning if only on a limited basis, but to heck with it. The last time I tried doing any "vandal-slaying" on an anonymous basis, this same idiocy happened. If anything, you were misinterpreting my attempts to undo the damage as the original vandalism. If that isn't a flaw in the system, I don't know what is. This site stopped being fun precisely for reasons like this. No need to respond, but take it from someone who's been in the trenches fighting for the sanctity of this site: When a misunderstanding happens, don't compound the problem by (a) insulting someone's intelligence regarding the use of the welcome page and sandbox and (b) take a moment to verify what a user such as myself tells you regarding misunderstood edits. It'll save you a lot of antacid, believe me. 71.102.80.39 07:28, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and for the record, I'm logging on for the first time since January to let you know that I am who I say I am. I hope this will dispel any further suspicions on your part. - Lucky 6.9 07:31, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I nevertheless think that you haven't been careful enough when making these edits, especially as you are such an experienced user. 1) If you click on the undo button you get a diff where you can preview your edit and abstain from clicking the save button and 2) if you had taken a closer look at the history you would have seen that this vandalism edit had been undone before. --Oxymoron83 07:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed while patrolling the "Recent Changes" that you were reverting vandalism by User:68.88.198.143, but you broke the WP:3RR policy. This policy applies even to vandalism. You should read the policy, if you haven't already, and make sure that you follow it in the future. The only reason I bring this up is that User:68.88.198.143 was blocked because of this edit war. Thank You, Connör (talk) 21:21, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:3RR#Exceptions before telling me such nonsense and accusing me of breaking the 3RR policy. As you wrote above, this was clear vandalism, and of course no edit war. --Oxymoron83 21:29, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That exception only applies to very obvious vandalism like page blanking. Also, I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just trying to remind you of WP:3RR. Connör (talk) 21:45, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That vandalism is about as obvious as it gets :). Definitely an exception and very much encouraged. GDonato (talk) 21:52, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I interpreted WP:3RR#Exceptions to only include very obvious vandalism such as page blanking and replacing the entire page, but once again I'm not arguing. Connör (talk) 21:59, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(EC when trying to answer) Thanks GDonato for your opinion :)--Oxymoron83 22:03, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, reverting penis vandalism is absolutely immune from 3RR. Cheers, Moreschi Talk 22:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see any "penis" edits, I reverted one vandalism myself then noticed that User:Oxymoron83 had reverted the anonymous user's vandalism about 5 times. Connör (talk) 22:48, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The penis edit, and strictly speaking 4 reverts, but doesn't matter if 4 or 100. --Oxymoron83 22:52, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'm not really sure if thats big enough to be an exception to 3RR, but I guess if you only reverted it 4 times then that's ok, and I'm not trying to argue so I will not reply here again. Connör (talk) 23:18, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually one more thing, I didn't realize that that was an admin who said it was exempt from 3RR. So I'll take Moreschi's word for it. Connör (talk) 23:20, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is against policy to remove warning templates from your talk page correct? And if so, can you give me a link to that policy, thank you so much. Tiptoety 16:42, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BIO

Hi, I note that you only gave Dave Wong a weak keep per WP:BIO. I had found this article in poor shape and did what I could to wikify it; most news coverage of this singer is in Chinese, which I can't read. (yet!) I think WP:MUSIC applies to singers rather than the general WP:BIO, and I think he's clearly met that by selling half a million of one album. Is there more that could be done to establish the notability of this singer at a glance? I might try using Google language tools to translate his extensive discography from the Chinese Wiki page, which seems to have worked for Phil Chang. - Fayenatic (talk) 21:22, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the vigilance in reverting vandalism, but the anonymous user who blanked out my userpage was me. I had neglected to sign in, but it was only me clearing out an old page. :) Sgenevieve 19:52, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: U4 (Berlin U-Bahn)

I did some minor tweaking, tenses, wording, etc. Also reduced the size of the map image to 250px, so it doesn't overwhelm the page so much. Feel free to revert if you don't like any of the changes. And, I learned something too, lol. I'd never heard of that railway before. ArielGold 16:46, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Transmile Air Services Page Editing

Hi, I'm not trying to vandalize this page or watever it is. But I'm just trying to improve the company's profile, if possible just get rid of the thing above the Transmile page... seriously it's an eyesore to me and to others as well. About the logo? I don't know who deleted it but i just want Transmile to have a company's logo like what Maskargo or Malaysia Airline has. Hope you will understand my statement above, thank you and God willing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.48.114.118 (talkcontribs) 20:28, 28 Sep 2007

You removed the COI template without giving a reason in the edit summary. You should discuss this at the article's talk page first. Independent of this you may improve the article taking our guidelines into account.--Oxymoron83 20:38, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Got a minute?

Would you be willing to deal with a copyright issue? It has already been explained to the editor in question, as have the obvious WP:COI issues, but the editor seems unwilling to respect Wikipedia policy and guidelines, and has repeated the violation on their userpage: User:Eriko E. Gale has placed verbatim liner notes from her father's CD, with no evidence of permission: States at the bottom of the page: "(As appeared on the inside sleeve (a.k.a C.D. liner) of Eric Gale's album "Ginseng Woman & Multiplication", courtesy of Columbia Jazz Contemporary Masters, re-released in 1991 (released originally in 1977 by Sony Music)" I think perhaps a word from an another editor may assist this user in understanding that the editors she's been in contact with are indeed, citing proper policy and guideline, and especially with regards to copyright, these things are taken quite seriously. ArielGold 01:29, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Doh, looks like you left for a bit. No worries, I'm going to request an admin take a look at this issue. ~*Hugs*~ ArielGold 01:38, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

LOL Ohhhh, okay well I asked Moonriddengirl to peek at it, as well, so she may be able to help. I think that this editor feels that there are only two editors who are 'ganging up on her' and doesn't fully understand they are protecting the integrity of Wikipedia by following copyright and other policies. Edit to Blue Valley Northwest High School

I received a "please refrain from test edits/vandalism" message from you, regarding the Blue Valley Northwest High School entry.

I personally did not make such an entry. But, I do have a child who is a student at Blue Valley Northwest. She or one of her friends may have made the entry from my network.

Can you provide any additional information, such as what was written? I would like to discuss this with her and make her understand that being 'annonymous' is not license to do stupid things.

Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.136.202.149 (talk) 17:18, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bizarre CSD request

Hi Oxymoron83. I noticed that you tagged Pablo García (Football player) for speedy deletion on the basis that it is a copyright violation. However, the page which you said it is a copyvio of is Pablo García, another Wikipedia article! If you are using some software to find copyvio articles, I suggest a little tweak to prevent it occuring again :) I have turned the article into a redirect anyway. Regards, пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:44, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No good idea, and I don't use any software to find copyvios, but my brain. This was a copyright infringement to the GFDL, cut&paste moves aren't allowed as the history gets lost. That's why there is WP:CUTPASTE and WP:SPLICE. Pablo García (Football player) must therefore be deleted, and then if needed Pablo García can be moved using the move button. --Oxymoron83 19:50, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So someone is trying to move Pablo García to a DAB page? If so, it should be at Pablo García (footballer) rather than Pablo García (Football player) anyway. Does the incorrectly titled article still need deleting, as there weren't any changes made to the article at that location (and therefore no "second" history)? пﮟოьεԻ 57 19:59, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Pablo García (Football player) needs deletion in any case as there's a GFDL incompatible attribution of the authors. Also a non deletion can become problematic in the future when more changes to these articles are made and it's difficult to look through which part was written by whom (e.g. another user reverts back to the first version on Pablo García (Football player), such cases occur several times a day).
For the other part, I'm not sure if Pablo García should be moved at all. The other person that User:Evis Daison Marrero wrote about at this page is probably not notable. And if he's notable, I think the footballer should stay under this title (essential higher publicity) with a {{otheruses4}}-tag. But that is secondary.--Oxymoron83 20:25, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diaphragmatic breathing and Abdominal breathing

Hi Oxymoron83,

I saw your nick and it attracted my attention. Because I have a question on the articles Diaphragmatic breathing and Abdominal breathing, where I'm actually stalked by people of whom I doubt their credibility. I made a merge proposal of them, and since your expertise at your daily work is pulmonology, I hope that you can share your view and, in case I'm right, merge the two articles. Could you please have a look at them? I'm thanking you in advance! Regards, Davin7 18:16, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've put my opinion on the article's talk page for now and will watch it for some days. If there will be no major concerns, I'm going to merge.--Oxymoron83 19:01, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He works faster on de? That doesn't seem possible. But I guess there is a lot more vandal fighting to do here as it has got more articles than any other wikipedia. More articles = More Vandals :D AngelOfSadness talk 17:54, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's equally fast on de. On de the vandals are blocked earlier (after 1 or 2 warnings), however for 2-7 hours only. This and the lesser number of articles/vandals reduces the number of vandalism edits. And on de I think there is a more favorable vandal fighter to vandalism edits ratio, so that normally all vandalism edits are reverted within seconds. That's why you have to be fast there, otherwise you have no chance to revert an edit. --Oxymoron83 18:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see. No wonder you decided to vandal fight on en and I am very glad that you made that decision. En has a lot of vandalism edits, a few go undetected for months at a time. AngelOfSadness talk 18:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's somewhere a user subpage where some of the vandalism edits that remained the longest time in articles are listed, I wasn't able to find it now; maybe you know which page I mean. --Oxymoron83 18:37, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oddly enough I have never heard about this list until now. It sounds really interesting though. Maybe the page you are trying to find has been vandalised itself because of a vicious page move or redirect and no one has noticed it yet :D AngelOfSadness talk 18:49, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, probably this is the case. Thx for the revert in the meantime. I asked DerHexer, I think he knows where the page is. --Oxymoron83 19:02, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, it's a good idea to eat something besides reverting those vandalism edits ;) And also the above stricken-through comment was intended for you, I got a mix-up with the XofY names ;)--Oxymoron83 09:09, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
lol in that case, I thank you again, AIAV is on my watchlist so I try to clear it out whenever I notice it has someone reported there. Happy editing, KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 09:41, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greg Felton

Thanks for reverting the person claiming to be Greg Felton on the page. I would ask you please keep an eye as he or someone claiming to be him is vigoroulsly persuing to censor the correct information in regards to the National Vanguard and documented anti-Semitic accusations and controversial writings.

--Eternalsleeper 08:19, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem regarding the revert of page blanking. As I'm not familiar with this topic I can't decide which information is correct. But I strongly suggest going to WP:RFC or WP:RFM if you haven't already done so as this conflict seems to be present since ages, a couple of editors are involved and no agreement could be reached on several editor's talk pages and the article's talk page. This article is on the brink of a page protection in the wrong version. --Oxymoron83 09:34, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User blocked, "I will stop if you delete..." No that is unacceptable, blocked for 48 hours, making a threat to vandalize is just as bad as the act. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 12:11, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just as well. Thx. --Oxymoron83 12:33, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, great work on anti-vandalism work. Thanks very much for reverting changes to my userpage. I'll give you a barnstar later when it has all calmed down! Thebestkiano 15:59, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well done! Your anti-vandalism work lately has been very good, and many thanks are given to you for reverting that repeated vandalism on my userpage. That IP user was really doing my head in! A real well done, you deserve it! Thebestkiano 16:04, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. My warning was from yesterday, you should give a 4im-warning and report to WP:AIV if he continues to vandalize. --Oxymoron83 19:27, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship

You've been here since May of this year, you have 31012 edits, you obviously know your way around with the vandal whacking stick, are you ready for the vandal flame thrower, and ban hammer as well? (Instead of me blocking the vandals you list at AIAV, you can do it yourself.) You correctly revert and warn users, and correctly identify articles that should be speedy deleted and you tag them appropriately. Sadly I'm having trouble finding articles that you contributed to in terms of content/context/general improvment/expansion et al. Still I think you'd do just fine on a RfA, and most importantly I really believe it would be an enormous benefit to the encyclopedia. What do you say? KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 19:52, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your trust, I think beginning/mid November would be a good time to candidate. At that time I will have been here for >6 months and (hopefully) done a little bit more article writing (I have some articles I begun to write/expand on my hard disk, but never finished one ;). --Oxymoron83 20:04, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you think that is best, just let me know when you are ready I'd love to nominate you. And I'm sure you know all this already I've said it a few times by now, as have many others, but your efforts here at en, are very much appreciated. Oh and before I forget again.
Milk to wash down those cookies!
KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 20:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, I will let you know. I want to ensure that this RfA will be successful and therefore also do some article work, which turned out to be very time-consuming for me. --Oxymoron83 20:58, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created a page called Phantom crystal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_crystal Would you mind editing it? Thank you!

Incorrect Vandalism Warning

I apologize, I reverted the vandalism on your talk page, and VP ended up putting the warning on your page. I reverted it back as soon as I could. Jauerback 15:59, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I saw it. No problem. BTW: Does VP warn automatically as I often see inappropriate warnings given with VP (not from you but generally; e.g. a level2 warning 2 minutes after a level3 warning, or 3 level2 warnings in a row within some minutes)? I'm authorized for VP but never got it to work.--Oxymoron83 16:05, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's the tricky thing with VP. You can choose your warning level upon your revert, but the problem is that you don't see the user's talk page until after you warned them. It does look silly sometimes to see a level 2 after a 3. I know I've done it. There is a section within VP that shows if the user has received any previous warnings, but it's not always accurate. What tool do you use to revert? Twinkle? Jauerback 16:13, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I use Twinkle plus a modified version of DerHexer's monobook that helps me with the warnings.--Oxymoron83 16:16, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just finally installed TW. Hmmm... so far, I kind of like it. Jauerback 16:27, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe, I can't judge if TW or VP is better as only TW is working for me, but the thing with the warnings with VP sounds rather prejudicially. --Oxymoron83 16:38, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I admit, I stole your monobook source code and I am now using. Don't bother with VP. Once I get the hang of this Twinkle thing, I don't see myself going back to VP. Jauerback 18:54, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On the talk page of the user who is warned, under the headline (where normally 'From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia' is written) there you get a notification why a user isn't warned ('Keine IP' means that only IPs are warned and 'Warnung kurz zuvor' means that the user received another warning in the last minuted, to avoid multiple warnings for the same edit - make sure your PC time is adjusted correctly). And the third possible comment is in English now - you have to report with the AIV tab at the top.--Oxymoron83 19:03, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Aha, endlich wird der Code verbreitet. ;) // Now the code is propagated. —DerHexer (Talk) 19:09, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe ;) // Hehe ;) --Oxymoron83 19:15, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This code is sweet. I take back my apology for screwing up your talk page with VP. I never would have found this otherwise. Jauerback 19:17, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank DerHexer, I myself would not have been able to create the code from nothing :) --Oxymoron83 19:23, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note, it is planned to archive my talk page at the end of the month (at the end of last month it was too short to archive imho). I have already a subpage with Barnstars (from the first archive) here ;)--Oxymoron83 14:08, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

83.100.133.145 vandalising

Could you block this user like you said you would, he has again vandalised the CZ 511 page.

Thanks Dictouray 16:18, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The last edit by this ip was more than a month ago, there is no reason to block it now. Blocks are used only to avert further damage from the project, not to punish. Additionally I'm no admin and therefore can't block anybody. --Oxymoron83 16:22, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting that weird CNN copy/paste dump onto my user page. Help

Please look at Wikipedia: Your First Article. I left a comment on Levatt's talk page but can't get to the original "First Article" content. Thank you. Dougz1 17:46, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page looks OK now. Dougz1 18:09, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, there's already an article on him. The original "First article" content you searched for is at Wikipedia:Your first article (non capitalized f), that's why I've moved the new article to Levatt's user namespace, so he is able to include the information in the pre-existing article. --Oxymoron83 19:00, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
