Žalec is a Slovenian municipality and a city of the same name, encompassing a part of the Savinja Valley and surrounding hills. The primary economic activity of the region is growing hops, a fact that is reflected by a depiction of a hop fruit on the city's coat-of-arms.

The population of the city in 2002 is 4919.
