Delta Village
Delta Village was an amusement park in Tallulah, Louisiana. It is known to have been open by the early 1970s, and it closed in the late 1970s. No traces of the park remain today.
Delta Village was a small park with only about a half dozen rides, designed to appeal to small children. It also included a "Storybook Land" with replicas of objects from nursery rhymes; this attraction was also obviously designed to appeal to very young children.
The amusement park to this day is remembered for its Indian riders, where the riders would ride back and forth, go around the top of the horses, ride side to side, stunt riding. Also, there were street shows in which cowboys would have fights, and jump of the tops of the roofs. Huge stunts back then. Also, there was always this medicine man trying to sell cough syrup as a miracle drug. Kids enjoyed the tilted room. They enjoyed trying to win a goldfish by throwing a ping pong ball in the little glass container the fish were in, cotton candy, the train ride with the gorilla in the scary cave, and the explosions in the river when we rode the boat up and down the river. Never forget one of the first coin operated games in which you could draw against the fastest cowboy gunman robot in the west. The kids liked to also watch this chicken play the piano for a nickel, and pet the other farm animals for free. One of the favorite and last thing people did at the park, was pick out a bean sack at the slide, take the seemingly 10 minute trip up the wooden stairs to the top of what seemed like the tallest slide in the world, and land on soft pillows at the bottom. It was one of the best things that ever happened to Tallulah in the 1970's.
