Sarah Geronimo Images
Hi there! I wonder why you delete this images? I put all necessary information and license too. If there's a problem in my flickr, I'll try to fix it. But please tell me what is it so I can bring it back in the article.--Wht_Pal888 (talk) 14:09, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Never Mind! I finally notice what's wrong in my image. Anyway, thanks for deleting the first one. I've uploaded it again, but this time, I use the right license. Again, thank you for your concern.--Wht_Pal888 (talk) 14:33, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Hey there again! Didn't you read my last message? I've finally change the NC thing. Please reply sir, since I've made this changes, can I put back the image?
SIr, If you don't reply within 30 min. I have to put back the image because, I need to rest now and I've already change the NC thing in my Flickr and the license too. Again, please reply and thank you for your concern. --Wht_Pal888 (talk) 14:41, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
I've already remove the "Non-Commercial" thing in the flickr. Now If you wouldn't mind, I'm going to re-upload the image because I've already fix the "Non-Commercial" thing that you've said.--Wht_Pal888 (talk) 15:35, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi again! sorry if I disturb you so much. Once again, I've changed the license thing and I put it on "Attribution Creative Commons" since it matches the license of image that I uploaded here in wiki. Do I need to revert it back to "Non-Commercial"?
- One more question, is it wrong if (the next photos that I will upload) I use the "Own work , released into public domain" License since it is really my own work? Or do I really need to to stick back in the old thing like "Creative Commons" thingy?
Again, sorry for all the trouble and thanks for your concern.--Wht_Pal888 (talk) 16:32, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ok! Thanks sir! and sorry for all my troubles.--Wht_Pal888 (talk) 23:43, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Pauline Kael, and posters
- The text as you've left it on the article makes it look an unreadable mass of verbiage, and the images were making the page look more interesting to read, they were intimately connected with the words and I find your actions destructive of the article and the encyclopedia. Is the use of not one image allowable on the film criticism page. I was told before that stills from films etc, were o.k but on the 'going steady' page you deleted them all, bulldozer it all, mae marsh in 'intolerance', which is a film she recommends people see, petula clark, no, get rid of it all, make the page unreadable, .. The rules say reasonable use , if its connected to the content, I dont think I breached either in trying to create, an attractive , readable article. Its crap now. Sayerslle (talk) 11:10, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- Please explain which rule I am breaking. You tell me, I read the rules and don't understand. In simple words explain why your destruction of the look of the page helps the encylopedia. You've taken all the images away. Is not one allowable, no poster, no screenshot. You tell me the rule I've broken In straightforward language please. Sayerslle (talk) 23:10, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
- 'Decorative purpose - without any critical commentary on that image - the text is totally about criticism of the depicted images, take the mae marsh screenshot , where the text discusses what the image of mae marsh conjures up..Thats on the 'going steady' article, take a look at the mae marsh photo and read the words underneath, and tell me they are not critical commentary on that image, the fact that without any sense of care you bulldoze over the article, - , you are making the articles an unreadable mass of verbiage - is that what you want. Sayerslle (talk) 13:41, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- I used a lot of images on the article The Crystal Bucket, by Clive James too, which is about a book. Perhaps you could look at that article too because maybe the use of images there is wrong too. Thanks for your help.Sayerslle (talk) 11:06, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- Any time Keep up the good work. In all seriousness, I genuinely do not grasp the rules, but I will try and learn them.Sayerslle (talk) 12:29, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tips on what to look for when using images. It does take time to learn the 'house style' of wikipedia. Sayerslle (talk) 16:35, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
KU Logo
Just FYI, after removing the wrong logo I updated the file to use the newer Trajan logo here File:Kansas logo.gif. The one I removed was the old "circus font" that KU doesn't use anymore. I'm not that familiar with the free-use rules regarded the trajan logo, so it may get deleted i guess... Ryan2845 (talk) 14:43, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I saw you're an OTRS volunteer. File:Kaspar Simeonov2.jpg has kind of an OTRS permission (the template is broken) but it looks fishy to me since the image was uploaded with the permission ID from the start by a user not affiliated with OTRS permissions. Could you check this? Thanks Hekerui (talk) 12:35, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Photographs - Gökova
ALL the photographs on the Gökova page are my own but I had forgotten to add the attributes. I live at this location and took the photographs for the town website which is where the originals are used. Now I cannot work out how to add attributes retrospectively. How do I do it?Kozlukuyu (talk) 16:22, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Which takes precedence? Fair-use or license agreement?
Hi, ESkog. How do you do?
You seem to know a good deal about rules and policies, so I thought perhaps you can help. In regard to uploading non-free media on Wikipedia, which one of these licensing factors takes precedence: U.S. Fair-use policy? or author's license agreement? For instance:
- If the author of a digital work, in his/her license agreement explicitly or implicitly demands us not upload his/her digital assets (screenshots and such) to Wikipedia, can we still ignore this demand on the pretext that its use is in compliance with U.S. fair-use policy?
- What happens if the author has not specified such a demand and we upload his/her digital assets on Wikipedia? Can he or she issue a Cease and Desist and ask us to take down his/her digital assets? Is such a Cease and Desist request legally enforceable? If not, does Wikipedia policies mandate compliance?
Perhaps if you cannot give a full answer, you can guide me to someone who knows the answer? Fleet Command (talk) 17:23, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Reverting Bill Self page
Please stop reverting the Bill Self page. I have included factual information in the article and my revisions are grammatically correct with the correct spelling. So the comment (Ryan2845) about my revisions being poorly worded, factually incorrect, and an odd tone is incorrect, and if you continue to delete my work I will report you to Wikipedia for destroying factual information.
The original article regarding Bill Self's tenure at Illinois was poorly written with a major Kansas University bias and attempted to give Bill Self full credit when others deserved mentioning. I've attempted to make the article more neutral as well as provide some additional factual information. I'll gladly work with you to find some common middle ground, but the original article (you keep reverting to) regarding Bill's coaching at Illinois requires revision to give Bruce Weber credit for developing the players Self recruited.
In my opinion, Bill Self has accomplished enough recruiting victories at Kansas such that there is no need to go into an in depth discussion about how players he recruited at Illinois turned out under a different coach. His roster this season had many more highly touted recruits when compared to the 2005 Illinois team. It seems kind of petty to mention Illinois' 2005 success since Bill self left Illinois in 2003 and the 2005 Illinois team wasn't deemed a success until reaching the championship game 2 years later under a different coaching staff. However, I left the information and edited it so an unknowing person would understand that in 2005 Bruce Weber was coaching Bill Self's recruits. I've looked at several other college basketball coaches profiles on Wikipedia and none of them try to take credit for recruits performing well after their departure from a program. Also note, that if you want to mention the success of Illinois' 2005 team because most were Bill Self recruits, then you also need to give credit for Lon Kruger recruits that Bill Self coached at Illinois. You can't have it both ways.
Again, I'm willing to work with you to find middle ground, and that middle ground must be factual and objectively written in a way that an unknowing person would understand that Bruce Weber had assumed the coaching helm 2 years before Illinois reached the championship game. I think it would probably be best to just mention Self's accomplishments while he was at Illinois, and mention that he recruited most of the 2005 Illinois team coached by Bruce Weber that reached the championship game, and lost to North Carolina. Mentioning that Self's Illinois recruits went on to go into the NBA is really stretching trying to take credit when they didn't show success until Bruce Weber was their coach. I would suggest leaving this portion out.
Besides, I think your time would be better spent trying to fix the Kansas portion of Bill Self's career which does not currently meet Wikipedia's standards ;)

Dispute resolution: Requesting a third opinion
Greetings, Administrator ESkog
How do you do?
Recently, there has been a dispute between me and J. M. (talk · contribs) on DivX article, which, to put it briefly, still persists. An administrator (I don't remember the name right now. Perhaps Black Kite?) has proposed that I should seek one of the methods of dispute resolution. Hence, I invite you, a neutral party, to give us a Third opinion.
I propose this edit:
DivX Plus Player has native support for playback of DivX files (.divx), AVI files (.avi), Matroska files (.mkv), MP4 files (.mp4), QuickTime Video files (.mov) and Windows Media Video files (.wmv), as well as .srt, .ssa and .ass subtitle files. DivX Plus Player also provides extended support for playing AVCHD video, MPEG-1 video, MPEG-2 video and RMVB files but requires appropriate DirectShow components.[ESkog-3rd 1]
While J. M. (talk · contribs) proposes this edit instead (to fully replace mine):
DivX Plus Player has native support for playback of files in a variety of formats.[ESkog-3rd 1]
Reflist:
- ^ a b "DivX Plus Player – Video player for DivX, AVI, MKV, MP4 & MOV". DivX, Inc. Retrieved 29 March 2010.
{{cite web}}
: Text "DivX.com" ignored (help)
I argue that J. M.'s edit is weasel word as it gives no information to user whatsoever. (User thinks: Oh, that much I could guess. What formats?) You can read J. M.'s counter-arguments in the talk page.
You are invited to give a third opinion: Which of those edit do you think is better? Please select.
Fleet Command (talk) 05:34, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
- I see! Thanks ESkog. That was very enlightening. (Although I can still argue that it is weasel word, – or even if not weasel word, a vague phrase, – at least now I am seeing the light.)
- Perhaps I'd have properly read his message and even concurred with him if his writing style wasn't so vilifying. You see, in his description, he wasn't talking to me; he was talking to others; he was also trying to put it as if I was a sub-intelligent person; and kept bringing about examples which I never said or agreed with. I also felt that he was playing with words... (Is it just me?)
- And so, it came to pass that one day, I retired from fighting with a so-called “vandal”, elated that I had made Wikipedia a better place and proud that I have acted according to guidelines and didn't "Feed the Troll"... and then, the next day I came back and saw that I was blocked for edit-warring...! I am ashamed of myself. To err is human but to err so much and only in Wikipedia is... Fleet Command (talk) 12:22, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Editing article topics which you have no idea.
If you are an educated person (as it says in your user page)learn to respect other religions.Do you change Pope 'John Paul II' to 'John Paul II',Do u?Saint peter to Peter????????? Thats what Buddhism is.(rspecting others, even a life of a small animal). http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/snp/snp.1.08.piya.html You think you are a big gun (admin) by changing other peoples edits(which you have no idea). That hatred drives you to your destruction, not mine.Have you ever heard of how Buddhist monks are called ?.The terms thero in Sri Lanka/Ajahn in Thailland etc.?
If some one has given you any authority, use it correctly.Do not misuse it.Try to be nice to new users.you can contribute to Wikipedia but you can't own it.Wikipedia is a place to contribute, not to show your colors.Finlay, remember people learn by mistakes and every one who is new to Wikipedia is not a Vandal or a sock puppet.
Shehanw (talk) 13:57, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
Surprisingly this policy page only applies for some religious figures/some religions only.See these examples..
Saint Peter,Pope Clement I,Saint George etc.
Every rule in Wikipedia should be universal, that's what I believe.
I don't have any problem in calling Saints as Saint Peter, Saint George etc.
But if I change the title Sariputta(Chief disciple of Buddha) to Arhat Sariputta then the above mentioned rule will apply.See Arhat for more details.
Thera is a term used to identify Buddhist monk from a Buddhist layman. In Thai Buddhism the term Ajahn is used.Example:Ajahn Brahm,Ajahn Sumedho, etc.See Ajahn for more details. We don't use the term Ajahn in Sri Lankan tradition but the term 'Thero' is used at end of the name.Example:Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero.
I have corrected the article topics 'Balangoda Ananda Maitreya' to 'Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thero' and 'Madihe Pannaseeha' to 'Madihe Pannaseeha Thero' and you have changed all those edits in an incorrect manner (without any proper reason). There is a space to give your reason for the move, but you have done it two times without any proper reason. As an admin you should act in a more responsible manner.

Re this message: the difficulty is that I am highly dubious about Gabby77's claims to be the author. See my message. African Leaders
I got to discover that ALMOST ALL of the pictures of African leaders & notable military personnels including the incumbent presidents and the members of his cabinets have all been recently removed. I have been trying to contribute positively on wiki's focus on Africa but it seems this efforts are not needed and appreciated. We could allow you to focus wiki on western personalities and have it as a all western affair.

Problem with Template:Microsoft screenshot
Hi, ESkog. Recently, a Wikipedian Garion96 (talk · contribs) has blanked Template:Microsoft screenshot and redirected it to Template:Non-free software screenshot with the edit summary "Redirect. There is a reason why we don't have specific templates anymore" but no mention of what that reason is.
I'm confident that I did have your approval, as well as your fellow administrator, Stifle's approval before deploying this template (the record of which is available in our talk pages), haven't I?
Now, how do you advise me to handle this case?

Thanks for this - very helpful. I'm still not sure I understand what I should do about the image. The image came from a site that said it released any hold over the image from copyright.
