Editing logos out of the picture

Hello Mr Yunshui, I had written couple of article related to electrical motor controllers before and for images I had asked copyrights from one company and they allowed the pictures for wiki , it seems that one of the editor got agrivated by seeing the logo and edited out the logo making it blank, and again the company which had lended the pictures were asking if they had given of the rights to edit also without permission (as no atribution was made that it had belonged to them ). so I am in kind of jam now , so what to do ?

the image

File:Braking_chopper_in_use.jpg

do let me now what is appropriate is such regards. Shrikanthv (talk) 13:07, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shrikanthv. I'm a bit confused here - the image you've linked to is at Wikimedia Commons and was uploaded by User:Jojalazzo - is that your username on Commons, or is it a different person? Not to worry, I've found the deleted version you originally uploaded to en-wiki. I'm also not seeing any logo in the image, nor in its history.
The things you basically need to know are:
 • We can't use the file without attributing the copyright holder - presumably the company, but possibly the photographer themselves.
 • The copyright holder has to release it under a suitable licence. Assuming that the Commons description is correct, this image is available under CC-BY-SA, which is fine. They can't, however, allow its use just in Wikipedia; it has to be freely available to anyone, anywhere.
Please could you clarify for me:
 • How did the company give permission for the picture to be used? Nevermind, I've found the OTRS ticket for it - it's cool.
 • Which editor objected to the logo, and what action did they take (if you can provide diffs, that would be a great help)?
 • What action do you want to see happen - does the file need to be deleted, do you want me to intervene with the other editor? What do you actually need from me here?
All the best, Yunshui  13:21, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
PS. Don't know if you've noticed, but I re-marked the CSD test for you. Yunshui  13:21, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I think I've pieced together the history here. Are you concerned because the file has been deleted on Wikipedia? If that's the case, you needn't worry - it has been deleted, but it's also been moved to Wikimedia Commons because it's freely licenced under CC-BY-SA. Such free images tend to be moved to Commons rather than retained at en-wiki. Does that help answer your question at all? Yunshui  13:28, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looked at it again - is it the case that the version you originally uploaded contained the company logo, and the version User:Jojalazzo has created at Commons has edited this out? If that's so, he is perfectly entitled to do so - when the company released the image under CC-BY-SA 3.0, they agreed to any changes or alterations that other people made to the picture, so long as the original source was identified. Removing their logo would be perfectly permissable under the licencing terms they agreed to. The image exists to illustrate a braking chopper, not the manufacturer's logo, so it's still perfectly servicable for article. The attribution is on the descriptor page, in the OTRS log, and also in the file history. Yunshui  13:41, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for going in much deep Mr. Yunshi, So I understand it was legal of what User:Jojalazzo did , is it also still allowed to have a product with logo ?. and Thanks for making me understand how the attribution works. Shrikanthv (talk) 06:37, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Logos tend to be securely copyrighted, which is why I was confused by the suggestion that the company in question had released theirs under a free licence. As far as Wikipedia is concerned, logos are usually used under Fair use, meaning that they are only placed in articles where the company's logo needs to be illustrated (because no free alternative could exist). If a company releases its logo as part of a free image, they give permission for that logo to be altered and reused by others - including commercially - which, as a brand, is an extremely silly thing to do. The horse has bolted by this point, but since Jojalazzo sensibly removed the logo, and since the version of the image that contained it has been deleted, their corporate image should be safe.
In answer to your questions, yes, Jojalazzo's actions were completely legal and in line with the image's licensing. Whilst it is permissable to have an image of the compay logo on Wikipedia, it should be uploaded under fair use so that they retain their copyright - here's a link to the relevent legal stuff. I'd strongly advise against getting them to release a product image featuring their logo under a free licence; they would effectively be waiving the major part of their copyright to the logo by doing so. Hope this helps to clarify things. Yunshui  07:11, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Attributing user space copies

Hi Yunshui, I'd like to take up an issue that you raised on User talk:Cartel82: If I get you right, one shouldn't copy Wikipedia articles into user space without attribution. For the copying into user space, I use something like make copy for rewrite. This of course does not keep the page history, but then I do not intend to ever move that user space draft over an existing article.

The issue is that our students should currently not yet mess with main space content, you have seen for yourself what the outcome can be. So I fear that this is exactly what I told them to do: Copy the article into user space and make their improvements there. Once we have evaluated it, I either ask for a HistMerge, or I incorporate the changes with an edit summary like incorporating changes from User:Pgallert/General dealer, part of Wikipedia:School and university projects/Polytechnic of Namibia.

Do you think this is sufficient, or can you suggest how to improve the process? Thanks and best regards, Pgallert (talk) 14:40, 8 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The basic problem with copying an article to userspace without attribution is that the student is then effectively claiming to have written the pre-existing text (the first edit will read: "User:Student created page with "Namibia, officially the Republic of Namibia (Afrikaans: Republiek van Namibië, German: About this sound Republik Namibia (help·info)), is a country...", which makes it appear that the text is their own work). Because of Wikipedia's copyright policy, this is a no-no - attribution has to be given to the original author of the text. A simple, if minimal, solution is to include a direct wikilink to the original in the first edit summary, e.g. "Text copied from Namibia" - this then means that future readers can see the date at which the text was copied and evaluate how much of it was created by other editors at Namibia. A better solution is to use the copied template (full syntax at the template link), which goes on the talkpage of the draft and establishes what was copied, when and from where. This provides the necessary attribution and avoids any copyright issues.
Some students have provided a link to the original article in their drafts, which is a start, but really the draft needs to clearly demonstrate when the text was copied across (so that readers can establish exactly who had contributed to the article up to that point) and how much of it was used - copied does all that for them.
Hope that helps a bit, feel free to get in touch with me again if necessary. Yunshui  07:22, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, well, I know about the copied template. I thought it was for articles where the copy is in main space, or where the copy is ever supposed to make it to main space.
 1. The first issue is, we cannot ask students to all create new articles, because in its third year the project has produced quite a number of them, and red links are getting more difficult to find, and to make blue. We therefore allow (encourage, actually) to improve existing articles.
 2. The second issue is, depending on the news coverage of a particular period we always have certain "hot topics" that are chosen by dozens of students. So apart from the situation that many students will mess up an article in main space with the skills they currently have, the exercise becomes impossible to mark if a whole cohort of students, sometimes not even logged in, makes changes to the same article. The page history of Johanna Benson is a small example of that, but the page history of Oshakati is worse.
 3. The third issue is that using copied on student's user space drafts forces me to introduce a whole new set of topics that I currently dodge: permalinks, attribution within Wikipedia, talk pages other than User talk, maintenance templates, page history, and so on. Not sure if this is doable.
 4. The fourth issue is that I can rarely use student's submissions for mainspace without changing them. Proper attribution would require me (the student is not around anymore to do that) to incorporate the improvement as-is, then to wikify, and then to mark the user space draft talk page with copied. That's three edits instead of one, a lot more clicks in my browser to find the permalinks, and a lot more work.
I'll remember to ask them to link to the original in their first edit summary, but this semester's students I do not meet anymore; I only gave the central lectures and conducted the tutor's workshops. The tutorials where students do the assignment are not under my influence. Thanks for the explanation, Pgallert (talk) 18:59, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can definitely see the advantages of having students edit drafts in userspace. I'd imagine this issue has arisen before, and we may well have a more specific template for such purposes that they could use; I'll have a look around.
Having students understand the basics of the different namespaces would be useful. At present, many of them have created their drafts on their userpages, rather than on subpages - nothing inherently wrong with that, but it does cause a bit of a headache if they then try to move the submission somewhere else. Sandboxes or draft user subpages are definitely preferable. It would also free up their userpages to allow them to put a link to the relevent School & University project, making it easier for editors to contact their tutors and understand thier editing.
I'm afraid I don't have any simple answers (and the genie's out of the bottle already anyway), but I'll give it some thought; if I can come up with an easy solution I'll let you know. Yunshui  13:58, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted my page

hello sir, you deleted the page i tried to create titled The Elliott Argument...I admit i didnt know how wikipedia worked before submitting it...I didnt realize how well it needed to be sourced, that i needed so many references, and that I couldnt delete peoples comments on the talk pages....I have vamped up the article, it is very well sourced now and i've put a lot more work into it...I was told I had to ask you if I could resubmit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrfivethirty (talkcontribs) 06:07, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Aaaand... declined. Wikipedia is not a soapbox; this is entirely the wrong forum for your argument. In addition, the sources added do nothing to suggest that the argument itself is notable, meaning that it fails the basic inclusion guidelines. My advice? Give it up - you've already been blocked once for doggedly trying to push this into the encyclopedia; if it happens again it will probably mean an indefinite leave of absence for you. If your only purpose here is to try and get an article about your argument included, then I'm afraid you are wasting your time; you might do better at one of the many alternative sites that allow this sort of thing. Yunshui  06:58, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Caspar Lee

I am trying to make a page about Caspar Lee but whenever I do, it gets deleted. Could you get someone else to do it because I'm obviously not very good at this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Poohfaster (talkcontribs) 15:51, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Your deleted "articles" consist of a flat statement that this guy is a popular vlogger on YouTube. You provide no sources, no evidence, nothing. Being a vlogger on YouTube is not an assertion of notability. What newspapers and magazines have written about this guy? Who says he is popular? Our guidelines on people make it clear that people must meet minimum standards of notability before articles about them are going to be found in Wikipedia. Thousands of people have vlogs; millions of people post to YouTube; that does not constitute notability. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:06, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

why did you delete my article and not accept it??? it IS very well sourced and has tons of citations (wikipedic and other)...tell me what i need to do different please...i read all the guidlines and dont see any issues — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.181.116.40 (talk) 17:27, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

im going to

im going to have some noteable people review the argument and write reviews on it...will it then be "noteable" enought for you? ps, did you know the ELLIOTT Argument is he most talked about apologetic argument on the entire internet right now?? Also you said "its the wrong forum for my argument?" Once it become noteable enough for your standards how is it the wrong forum?? There are tons of philosophical and apologetics arguments all over wikipedia!...why not tell them they are in the wrong forum? My argument falls under the same category as these, its just newer! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.181.116.40 (talk) 17:31, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming you're User:DragonRush (in which case, please log in), your submission did not indicate why the subject was notable enough for inclusion. Wikipedia's primary inclusion guideline is notability, which, on this site, means coverage in reliable, independent sources (such as newspapers, magazine articles, television programmes, research papers, books or reliable websites). Jordan Rush does not appear to have received such coverage. Yunshui  10:30, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Horror Pain Gore Death Productions deleted?

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions is a record label with over a dozen acts signed to it, as well as an American distributor for other record labels abroad. Why was the page for this legitimate company deleted? In other words, it physically presses, distributes, and sells physical copies of CDs, thus it is no different in operation than more mainstream heavy metal record labels (such as Nuclear Blast Records or Relapse Records).

This was all listed on the Wikipedia page, and the information was referenced as well. There is an official website for the company, but Wikipedia apparently rejects the comoj domain for spam, thus I cannot use it as a reference; however, the link to that website can be found on the Horror Pain Gore Death Production metal-archives page located at http://www.metal-archives.com/labels/Horror_Pain_Gore_Death_Productions.

Thank you.

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/John Boultbee (Artist)

You have rightly indicated that this article contained material that may have infringed copyright. I have amended, and continue to amend, the article. What is my next step to have it re-appraised? Pgboultbee (talk) 02:42, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming you're talking about the article currently in your sandbox, you need to start by doing a heck of a lot more amending. A substantial amount of the text is still directly copied from the Blackbrook gallery profile - Wikipedia cannot legally host copyrighted material from other sites, including close paraphrasing, for any length of time. I've therefore removed the sentences which were clear copyright violations. Yunshui  07:24, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tea House

I have started giving a few replies at Tea house. But, I feel that my replies are no way comparable to high standards that you guys maintain at the tea house in terms of humbleness of the answer. Especially, I feel bad that this not so humble reply of mine preceded the fantastic two replies that followed. --Anbu121 (talk me) 10:34, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anbu121. It's great that you're helping out new editors at the Teahouse! Your reply was perfectly correct: the questioner was proposing to use original research and it was a good idea to point this out. The only thing I'd suggest is that you try to make your answers a little bit less terse (I'm guessing English isn't your first language?) - the Teahouse is supposed to be the friendly face of Wikipedia, so we try to avoid simply saying "You can't do that because of <insert random string of capital letters linked to a policy here> policy." (Not that your reply was anything like as bad as that!)
Please do carry on helping to answer questions at the Teahouse; the very fact that you're concerned that you might not be being welcoming enough suggests that you're an ideal host to have there. Just try to remember that new editors are often hugely confused, and may need a bit of hand-holding - you need to explain a bit, rather than just pointing to the relevent policies. Yunshui  10:44, 12 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

I saw that you seem to be into rollback, vandalism revertion, etc. Would you mind telling what I could do to improve my chances of getting rollback? I already have used Twinkle for some time to fight vandals, so I know pretty well what is and is not vandalism. Thanks! gwickwire | Leave a message 22:47, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Having taken a look at your contributions, I see no reason not to give you the rollback right - so I have. Your Twinkle reverts alone pass the criteria for rollback. Just remember the golden rule: it's only for vandalism, not content disputes; use it improperly and it can be taken away again.
Many Recent changes patrollers go on to start using Huggle once they have rollback rights; you might want to consider that as a next step. There's also the Counter-vandalism unit and its associated Academy if you want to track down more anti-vandal resources. Best of luck, Yunshui  07:01, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hyperionsteel. I see no indication that you intend to do so, but in the interests of a quiet life for all can I ask you to refrain from re-entering claims about Joachim Martillo being a Holocaust denier into this article. Without very solid sources, it's a violation of WP:BLP. Cheers, Yunshui  13:46, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My response

I understand your concern about this article and I can assure you I will not add, edit or reinsert any information or claims about Mr. Martillo unless they are properly sourced under Wikipedia's BLP policy (in fact, I don't even want to touch this until this issue is settled). Rather, I was pointing out to the user claiming to be Mr. Martillo that adding/editing information about oneself is strongly discouraged in Wikipedia, primarily due to COI concerns. What I should have clarified to this user earlier is that there are avenues within Wikipedia (see: WP:Problems in an article about you) that he can pursue if he believes that libelous/incorrect information about himself has been posted here.(Hyperionsteel (talk) 23:13, 15 October 2012 (UTC))[reply]
Agreed
After reviewing interviews with and articles written by Mr. Martillo on the Internet, I agree there is no evidence (aside from MEMRI's assertion) that he is a Holocaust denier (although some of his views and statements regarding on Jews and Israel are certainly questionable). Therefore, this claim should be removed from the article immediately.(Hyperionsteel (talk) 00:24, 16 October 2012 (UTC))[reply]
Cool. Like I said, I didn't expect you were going add it back again, and you were right to point out the COI issues involved; I just dropped you a note to keep you abreast of the situation. Thanks for looking into it more thoroughly, as well. Yunshui  06:46, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Yunshui, Thanks a lot for your reply I'm a new user in Wikipedia.I'm glad that i could help the world by editing and creating i would like to know how to contact other Wikipedia editors. i couldn't find any of the editor's email address. Hi Jethro76. Talkpages - like this one - are the usual means of communicating here. However, many users, myself included, have email enabled on our Wikipedia accounts (you can set this up for yourself by clicking on "My preferences" in the top right of your screen and setting your email preferences). If a user has email enabled, you'll see an option labelled "E-mail this user" under the toolbox menu on the left of your screen; clicking on this will open an email form. There's also an IRC channel where you can get live help in real-time. Yunshui  08:13, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page Curation newsletter - closing up!

Hey all :).

We're (very shortly) closing down this development cycle for Page Curation. It's genuinely been a pleasure to talk with you all and build software that is so close to my own heart, and also so effective. The current backlog is 9 days, and I've never seen it that low before.

However! Closing up shop does not mean not making any improvements. First-off, this is your last chance to give us a poke about unresolved bugs or report new ones on the talkpage. If something's going wrong, we want to know about it :). Second, we'll hopefully be taking another pass over the software next year. If you've got ideas for features Page Curation doesn't currently have, stick them here.

Again, it's been an honour. Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 12:24, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

hello, I was a bit late in getting my question [1] entered into the discussion as you had already unblocked based on an voluntary interaction ban. would that have affected your decision? -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:34, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've asked the user whether they have any comment... you're absolutely right, it does look rather fishy. I'm not going to revoke the unblock, at least not immediately, but if TheVforVendetta continues editing in a similar fashion we might need to add a line to the SPI case and request a checkuser. Yunshui  12:39, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. That seems to be the appropriate actions. I would not be surprised if now that the block is lifted the vendetta account does not edit at all in the future. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:27, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Anna Frodesiak's added Vendetta to the SPI, so we'll see what they make of him there. Yunshui  18:05, 17 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out they make him a sockpuppet... good call. Yunshui  07:21, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Repeated minor vandalism by user Kevin12xd

Hi there,

Sorry about the user page revision, I just wanted the information visible for the following reason that I posted on the talk page of another admin who's involved:

User Kevin12xd seems to be up to his old tricks. In the past he has committed various acts of minor vandalism, and was blocked from editing (by you, I believe). Now that he's been re-instated, he's made this edit to my userpage, and one or two other random things (see his edit history. He then deleted the content of his talk page, presumably to remove evidence of the disruption he's caused. Here is a permalink to the revision before he blanked the page.

I'm not really sure what to make of it. I assume he was trying to trick me into believing that there was a legitimate problem with my username. Please leave a message on my talk page to let me know what you think!

I don't understand why my page was deleted (Leonard Carter)

I'm writing about one of the most influential Judo teachers in the US and my page was deleted. http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Leonard_carter&action=edit&redlink=1

Can you please tell me why? I have no intention to run advertisement or promotion since I have no personal gain doing that.

Please review that and if possible revert the delete so I can continue to write.

I also have 3 more authors that have content to contribute to the page.

If you have any questions about it, please let me know.

I'm waiting for your contact. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fabiovalves (talkcontribs) 13:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A cup of tea for you!

Here's something to say thanks for the Semi-Protection and to go great with the Brownie :-) Should I report to you or the Admin who blocked the School's IP if it's going on a vandalism spree again? CHCSPrefect (talk) 14:11, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I'd suggest going to AIV; you'll get more eyes on the problem there. Individual admins can't be online all the time; I, for example, am now disappearing for the weekend. Yunshui  14:19, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
Thanks again Yunshui, saved my userpage's again, are you sure IPs can't be indefinitely banned? This feels like Sock Puppetry on an IP level if you know what I mean. Anyway many thanks. CHCSPrefect (talk) 08:39, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

While i'm here can I ask for you to please Semi-Protect my Talk page? It's that they're obsesseed with causing havoc on. CHCSPrefect (talk) 08:42, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again. We don't usually block IP addresses indefinitely because they are often either reallocated by the ISP or used by multiple users - for example, if I indef-blocked your school's IP, and five years down the school decided to do a project on Wikipedia (which many schools now do), none of the students would be able to create an account or make any edits. The normal progression with school IPs is to increase the block length over time, culminating in blocks of up to a year. After this point, if the vandalism continues Wikipedia will usually send an abuse report to the school. Ultimately, the responsibility for students' internet use lies with the school itself - it's their choice over whether to sanction the student(s) involved, blacklist Wikipedia on the school's servers or revoke pupils' internet access entirely.
Talkpage semi-protection isn't undertaken lightly - I'd suggest, since both school IPs are now blocked, that you wait and see for the time being whether the vandalism re-occurs under another IP. If it does, drop me a note and I'll give serious consideration to locking it down for you. Yunshui  08:51, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cardinal Hume Catholic School are very well-endowed with IPs - they have the whole range from 82.33.215.0 to .31, though only .26 and .30 have contributions so far. That means that if there is any more trouble a range-block of 82.33.215.0/27 would take them out neatly. (Do you share my impression that Catholic schools are particularly prone to silly vandalism?) JohnCD (talk) 09:21, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
My experience has been that religious affiliation seems to make no difference - most schoolkids seem to think it's fun to vandalise stuff. A sad reflection of the state of modern youth?
Rangeblocking would make sense if the problems continue - I've not done one before but there's a first time for everything... Yunshui  09:28, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
By the way John, out of personal curiosity, how did you establish the range? Yunshui  09:30, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at WHOIS at the bottom of the contributions page for 82.33.215.0 (CHCS), 82.33.215.255 (somebody else), 82.33.215.31 (CHCS), 82.33.215.32 (somebody else). I haven't checked all 32, but if .0 and .31 are both CHCS it's highly likely they all are. JohnCD (talk) 09:40, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's logical. I was just wondering if you knew of some magical way to perform a reverse WHOIS. Yunshui  09:42, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It makes sense what John is saying, to be honest guys i'm pretty sure these attacks have been from people in my class trying to annoy me for a laugh, we do have Vandalism history dating back to May (It's deleted because i've moved it all into a Word Document to help the servers, look for a log entry of about -24,000 and compare versions before that.) but those were random i'm sure, things come and go, just block the whole range if they keep going and by next week it'll probably be all forgotten, i'm very grateful for the help of you both. Your reply

I appreciate you offering to help me. I have alot of questions. The article I created was done with alot of help. I wouldn't know how to get it to that standard again by myself thats for sure. With regards to that article, it says its an orphan so I'd like to fix that to start. I added a link where the man's name appeared on a related article but the message still is displayed. I suppose I would have to remove it if what I did fixes that issue, but need to know for sure. What do you recommend I do to fix this? Are more links required? In order for his name to appear in more articles, I would have to add the content to them. Tx, CCcard12 (talk) 13:00, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Craig. You are allowed to remove the orphan tag if you feel the issue has been suitable dealt with - I'd say, though, that one incoming link was still insufficient - about 3-5 is usually enough. Apart from adding information to other golf-course articles, a simple way to find linkable pages is to do a text search within Wikipedia - type "~Mike Strantz" into the search bar and the extra tilde will cause the software to find all instances of the text string "Mike Strantz". (Actually, don't bother - I'll leave that sentence in as a useful tip for the future, but having just run that search myself, there's only the Mike Strantz page and the wikilink that you added to Forrest Fezler). That said, adding content is nothing to veer away from - there are a number of sources in the Mike Strantz article which could lead you to add text about him to other articles. I'll take a look myself and see if I can do anything to help. Yunshui  13:07, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've stuck a link in from Monterey Peninsula Country Club, which is the only one of his courses to currently have an article - a good next step would be to see if any of the other courses listed merit articles of their own. You could well have hit a nice vein of article subjects to mine! Have a quick read of this essay (my distallation of the basics of a first article), and then consider whether you can find sources to support an article on, say, The Caledonia Golf and Fish Club. Let me know if you need a hand. Yunshui  13:22, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(You could start with [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7] and so on...) Yunshui  13:29, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would need a hand if I were to attempt to create those articles. I saw that you created that link to Monterey CC, thats great. I deleted Forrest however as Mike was the actual designer. Shall I assume that Mike's page is finished or is there any sense in adding an image to the info box. I've seen this on other pages and wondered if it is something to consider? Ccard12 (talk) 13:36, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No page is ever "finished" here... there's always some way to improve even a Featured article. Images are always a good thing to have in an article, but you'd need to locate one that was suitable under Wikipedia's copyright licence - see the image use policy for the gory details. Basically, any image would have to be available either under a free licence like CC-BY-SA or under fair use (since Mr Strantz is dead, it wouldn't be possible to create a free image if none already exists). If you have something in mind, let me know the details (where you got it or where it's located on the web) and I'll check it for you. Yunshui  13:41, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking of contacting the operator of one of his courses (who I met in the past) and inquiring if they would allow us to use one. I have an image in mind but they are likely the only ones who have the file. I doubt they would have any problem allowing us to use it. Is this something that you recommend I do?Ccard12 (talk) 13:49, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely. This page has some useful examples to show you how to word such a request; just copy and paste the most appropriate one and change the relevent details. Yunshui  13:53, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll do that, thanks alot. After looking over the Monterey page you linked Mike to I noticed a bunch of errors (all kinds) that I'm about to fix. A website advertising Monterey Peninsula golf actually copy and pasted the incorrect information from the Wikipedia article and use it as a feature for the course on their site! Incredible.Ccard12 (talk) 14:26, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have secured an image to post on the page and the person who donated it is ok with the CCA Sharealike 3.0 license. Can you tell me what other info I may need from them so I can thank them and sign off. Thanks Ccard12 (talk) 13:38, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Two options - if the image is already available online somewhere, all they need to do is make a statement somewhere at that location to the effect that the image is released under CC-BY-SA. If it's not online, technically they should contact permissions@en-wikipedia.org to confirm that they own the rights to the image and release it under CC-BY-SA terms. However, from a purely practical standpoint, that's not wholly necessary - as long as they're willing to do this if asked, you can go ahead and upload the image. The best place to do so is Wikimedia Commons, the global image repository used by all Wikipedia projects - the upload wizard for Commons is here], although you'll need to create an account there first in order to use it. Let me know how you get on, and then I'll talk you through putting it into the article. Yunshui  13:44, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the Talk Page protection would be a good idea. Meva - CHCSPrefect - GIMME A POTATO CHIP! C: (talk) 12:08, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yunshui you are a fantastic individual in my opinion, you've been fantastic with all the help you've been :) I still have one more thing to ask though. How do you change the (talk) bit on a signature? Meva - CHCSPrefect - GIMME A POTATO CHIP! C: (talk) 13:29, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Depends what you want to change it to... basically you would use a pipe, so for example this: Meva - CHCSPrefect - GIMME A POTATO CHIP! C: would link the phrase "GIMME A POTATO CHIP! C:" to your talkpage. Yunshui  13:31, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I tried it in My Sandbox but the signature still shows (talk). Am I missing something here? Meva - CHCSPrefect - Potato Chip (talk) 13:53, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Step-by-step instructions (and my apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know...):
 1. Go to "My preferences" in the top right of your screen.
 2. In the box under "Signature", delete everything there and copy this test string in its place: Meva - CHCSPrefect - GIMME A POTATO CHIP! C:
 3. Check the box that says "Treat the above as wiki markup".
 4. Save the page.
You should now find that four tildes produce a custom signature without the extra (talk) link. Yunshui  13:58, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ah so it was the Wiki markup I was missing. Thanks a lot :) I noticed you're on Admin Review, I think i'll leave a good word there. Meva - CHCSPrefect - GIMME A POTATO CHIP! C: 14:11, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:CardinalBadboy has been banned but the ban...

Hi again Yun. It seems CardinalBadboy has had a block placed on him by your fellow Administrator Kinu, it's just the 31 Hours that bugs me since it was an edit on the School's IP Address. Did you intend to put an Indef upon his second vandalism knowing it is a Vandalism only account? Could I ask that you discuss the block time with Kinu? It could save a lot of trouble further down the line. Thank you :) Meva / CHCSPrefect - (Spare a Potato Chip?) 11:38, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If there's more vandalism from the account once the block expires then I'd be thinking about a VOA indef, however I don't see any problem with Kinu's initial choice of timeframe - we try to be as forgiving as possible with blocks, and commonly block for a day or two to begin with in the hopes that the vandals will get bored and find somewhere else to troll. I'll keep an eye on the user's edits once the block runs out; if nothing constructive emerges then a longer or indefinite block could be the way to go. Yunshui  11:43, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need Help

Hi Yunshui, I am KRISTEEN65. I saw that you have answered my question in the tea house and you have asked if I need your help for seeing the previous pages of an article. You have asked its name. Its name is Zee Gold Awards. This page has been deleted and I want to get its text. Please help me getting the text of this deleted article. KRISTEEN65; Talk; contribs)17:38, 23 October 2012 (IST)

Well, the bad news is that the article was deleted as a copyright violation, meaning that no right-thinking administrator is going to restore it for you. The good news is that it was deleted as a copyright violation, meaning that the original text came from somewhere other than Wikipedia, specifically this page and this one. You can therefore view the text at these two sites, rather than on Wikipedia. Hope this helps, Yunshui  12:15, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
But Yunshui, actually only one line from this article was from a copyright page. Is there no way to get the remaining text of the article.
Well, I want to ask about how to redirect a page. KRISTEEN65; Talk; contribs)17:53, 23 October 2012 (IST)
Easy peasy - just replace the content of the page with the code: #REDIRECT name of target page. If there's any chance of people disagreeing with the redirect, though, I suggest you discuss it on the article's talkpage first. There's more information at Help:Redirect. Yunshui  12:26, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
KRISTEEN65, may I ask how you know that only one line from the article was infringing? The article was deleted long before you created your account here. —Psychonaut (talk) 12:41, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Judging from the version of Zee Gold Awards immediately prior to deletion, it was a combination of note six from here, text from here and the first paragraph from here - far more than just one line. Psychonaut has a point, above; how is it that you're aware of the page's content when it was deleted around three weeks before your account was created? Yunshui  12:49, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answer for Question

Psychonaut, Let me tell you that I have created my account a few days before. I had no account. I read the page of Zee Gold Awards and noticed hardly one or two lines from a copyright site. I hope you will be satisfied with my explaination. Thank You for the help Yunshui. KRISTEEN65; Talk; contribs)19:24, 23 October 2012 (IST)
Fair enough, that's pretty much what I assumed. However, as I said above, the entire article was indeed lifted word-for-word from several non-free sources. I'm guessing you only checked out one of them; there were at least three separate sites that I could find which had been plagiarised. Yunshui  14:07, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. It's now clear that KRISTEEN65 is a sockpuppet of User:Vibhas Kashyap. Exact same editing pattern, and moreover making repeated requests to retrieve the text of User:Vibhas Kashyap's deleted contributions. Adoption/help

Hi Yunshui,

Thanks for your message! Yes, I have looked at the adoption page on a number of occasions with a view to seeking help. It does sound as if it might be appropriate - I bet the kind and very helpful hosts at the Teahouse are beginning to give a deep sigh (or groan!) whenever they see me returning to ask yet another question .

I do still have an awful lot of questions. For instance, someone kindly re-assessed the Setter article that I did some work on but made the comment that some references still needed to be sorted out. I spent all day on Sunday trying to work out how to do a list of shortened footnotes/citations to then link to the full length reference. You were right, it isn't something for beginners to try! I abandoned it in the end before I managed to crash my computer or even Wikipedia............

I find doing the research for information, then attempting to work out the syntax to include it and appropriate references correctly into an article fascinating. Wikipedia is a resource I have frequently used myself so I am disappointed when I discover the facts I'm looking for are not there and it's something I would like to help rectify.

A particular interest of mine is dog breeds, especially gundogs. While many articles about these are excellent, others do need work. It's something I hope to be able to play with during the forthcoming winter months, so if you are able to help - or can suggest another - who might like to 'adopt' me, I would be very grateful.

I'm working away from home for a week starting tomorrow morning, so will more or less be away from Wiki until next week.

SagaciousPhil - Chat 13:29, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speaking in my capacity as a Teahouse host, we don't mind how many questions you ask there - knock yourself out (especially since, from what I recall, your questions tend to be quite interesting ones - I've nothing against explaining the notability guidelines again and again to diffrent users, but variety is the spice of life, after all...). As an additional note, if you haven't already joined the Dogs WikiProject you might like to do so; WikiProjects are a good way to locate articles in your area of interest that need creatin/improving, and it gives you access to a whole bunch of like-minded contributors who can give you help and ideas.
As regards adoption, I've taken on two new adoptees in the last couple of days and I'm waiting to see how they pan out - I may not be able to offer you my full attention if I adopted you at this point. There's a full list of adopters here, if you haven't already found it; I've worked with most of them at one time or another and haven't found a duff one yet... You might find Charlesdrakew or TAP good mentors; both are competent article creators and know their wiki-onions, so to speak. Alternatively, ask me again in a week or so when you get back; I'll have a better idea by then of how much work my new charges are going to require and whether I can take on any more adoptees. All the best, Yunshui  13:47, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Yunshui. I have been looking at the Dogs Portal but had the impression it didn't appear particularly active at the moment on a 'collaborative' basis. People just seemed to be doing more of their own individual thing. I will have a thorough look through the list of adopters on my return next week ........ but may still get back to you to check how things have panned out for you with your current adoptees.
Thank you again for being so patient and helpful, it really is much appreciated!
SagaciousPhil - Chat 14:05, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikiprojects can be a bit hit-and-miss - some are hotbeds of collaborative activity, others have about three inactive users on their books and are essentially defunct... Enjoy your week away; I look forward to more interesting questions when you return! Yunshui  14:09, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please help

Dear Yunshui,

please advice me. The WP article on Ms. Ekberg is causing harm. Sources are biased; 1) GenderWar (article source 1,2,3) has been reprimanded by Swedish TV Review Board for presenting biased and false information. 2) article 4 is outright slander. 3) This person is not notable, except for one event, which 3) causes serious harm and threats. 4) Reproducing this event / information on this event through WP is a problem. Still now, years and years after the event 5) WP has a policy a) attackpages b) notability c) on linking to external harassment.

No vandalism intentded! To the contrary. Please contact me by private email.

Hi Paperclip22. I'm afraid I can't see what the problem is with this page. The events relating to Evin Rubar are reliably reported in Sweden's largest daily newspaper and another Bonnier Group outlet; are you trying to argue that these don't meet the requirements for reliable sources? The biographies of living persons policy doesn't say that we must never report anything negative about a living person, only that such additions must be supported by reliable sources, which these claims are. In addition , One event doesn't apply here - going purely by the sources, Ms Ekberg is notable for both the comments made to Rubar and separately for her work with CATW.
The article therefore doesn't meet any of the criteria for speedy deletion. You would be best advised, if you are determined to have it removed, to take it to Articles for deletion instead (full instructions on filing an AFD are here). Yunshui  14:03, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yunshui, Again, no vandalism intended. To the contrary. Two things: First, I do not dispute that any event took place. I do not dispute the reliability of newspapers, but of GenderWar. I dispute the notability of this event and reproduction of this incident on this website. Which is why I tagged the article under notability. Second, the person in question does not work for CATW. What I asked you was advice and understanding/empathy for the situation. The event itself was a direct attack. reproducing it reproduces harm. Paperclip — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paperclip22 (talkcontribs) 14:31, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Additional sources have since been added to the article (including a couple which demonstrate that she did indeed work for CATW), it's now amply referenced for notability purposes. Gender War is not being used as a source; the information in the article is taken from the Dagens Nyheter. Sources confirm that the incident took place and was covered in several reliable media outlets; the information is therefore appropriate for the article. It is phrased in neutral, non-judgemental language within the article, and therefore meets the requirements of WP:BLP. Yunshui  07:17, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Archivistsusan. You're very welcome to recreate the page (and the one on Ruth S. Morgenthau mentioned below). Just bear in mind the issues raised on your talkpage regarding close paraphrasing and copyright. I would suggest that you locate several additional sources on these women, read through them, and then try to write an article that synthesises the information in all the sources, rather than relying on a single biographical reference - this makes it much more difficult to inadvertently infringe copyright. Use your own words and you'll be fine. If you want to, you're also welcome to create the pages at Articles for creation or in your sandbox, in which case I'd by happy to look them over for you before they go "live". Hi Aarganesh. The version of the article that I deleted had none of the above sources in it - in fact, it contained no sources at all. It also gave no indication that Mr Kumar was in any way likely to be notable, so it was duly deleted under criterion A7 of the speedy deletion policy. If you would like to recreate the page, you are free to do so. However, I should point out that of the sources you propose above, only one - the Namadhu Nambikkai article - might meet the requirements for a reliable source (equally, it might not - since I don't read Tamil, I can't readily assess its editorial quality or affiliations). Sites created by Mr Kumar, blogs, LinkedIn profiles and Facebook pages are emphatically not considered reliable sources here. The requirements for inclusion are set out in simple terms on this page; I suggest you have a read of that before creating the article again. Yunshui  07:04, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Reply from Ganesh - 24 October 2012

Hi Yunshui Would you consider the credibility of this article please? This should be more credible for Mr HVK Sir; http://gulftoday.ae/portal/ccebff5a-dcee-4408-a7d0-37230fc88e3c.aspx

Regarding the Tamil magazine, I'm 100% not lying about it. If you want, I can establish a tele conference between the editor of the Tamil magazine & you (they can speak in English) to prove the credibility of both the magazine & HVK Sir.

Otherwise, I can get you the email ID of the magazine "Namadhu Nambikkai" & you can email to the editor verifying the credibility.

Hope this was convincing & hoping to get your approval to publish the same :) Thanks in advance.

It's an interview, so one would be slightly wary, but I reckon there's enough in the Gulf Today article to support inclusion. He certainly sounds like an interesting character. I'd recommend you go ahead and recreate the article; I'll restore the deleted version to your userpage so you can work on it. No need to set up a teleconference for me; I'm happy to assume good faith, and we've got plenty of editors who speak Tamil and can check the sources out if needs be. Yunshui  13:12, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your consideration & allowing us to publish :) Have a great day ahead. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aarganesh (talkcontribs) 13:29, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How do I find edits that were made in good-faith but were unconstructive?

Hi Yunshui. I am currently completing the assignment you assigned me. Please answer the heading. Thanks! KazLabz (talk) 23:01, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest Recent changes (there's a link in the Interaction menu on the left of your screen). This shows all the most recent alterations to Wikipedia pages. Check a few at random; you'll come across unconstructive edits sadly all too soon. The rationale behind this particular task is to show that you can understand the difference between edits that were well-meaning but ultimately made the encyclopedia worse (if I may say so, there are several of these in your own edit history!) and edits that were made with the deliberate intent of damaging the project (vandalism). Hello Mr Yunshui, Here is article i am interested in , Currently i just edited the intro part ,but the whole article is written very subjectively . do not want it to rejected how can i get some more time to edit and review the article ? Shrikanthv (talk) 08:50, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, jumping in at the deep end, I see... that's a page that will need a lot of work. Still, it's not unsalvagable; you should have a go at improving it. Firstly, since it's at AFC there's no real time limit - it can be submitted and rejected as many times as is necessary before being turned into an article, so you're not under any deadline to get it up to scratch. Take your time; if another rejection notice appears just carry on and resubmit when you think it's ready.
The two main issues you'll need to address are as follows:
 • Tone/language. Since English isn't your first language you may find this the most difficult aspect to deal with, but don't worry - do what you can and then I or another editor can always clean up the minor details. The most important thing is to try and make it understandable to readers who don't know much about Hinduism; simplify the language, explain some of the terms used or rephrase them into English equivalents, make the language objective, and try to create a structured route through the article.
 • Sort out some better references - a few links to bits of the Bhagavad Gita are fine, but you need to find scholarly works which discuss the concept of Ananda in Hinduism - non-Hindu sources would be preferable. Try looking at Google Books and Google Scholar for starters, and see how you go. Avoid sources that seem to be subjective or are published by small or specialist publishing houses.
Best of luck! Yunshui  09:13, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Yunshui, I have gone through this topic in the past and also may be allways going through this topic once in a while. there seems to be a problem and help me out 1) There are 4 books written in (old sanskrit)(vedas). and out of which the short summaries are again written on, of about more than 100 + (upanishads). Again written in old sanskrit, out of which only 10-11 are known and famous. 2) There are countless authors who have tried to translate the topics and try to bring about the meaning or true essence of it. (very subjective) 3) there cannot be a summary or generalising of topic meanings over here. as the interpreters have intepreted the subject in a vastly different manners.

so how to go about writting this highly philosophical and subjective topic ?. Is it fine if i try to qoute different takes from different authors ? Shrikanthv (talk) 12:08, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Quotes from multiple authors are fine, although a better approach would be to summarise their positions in your own words and cite them as a source. If possible, be selective: choose scholarly authors who are known for their contributions to religious studies or Hindu history, and who have been published by well-known and respected publishing houses or journals. You don't have to report the opinion of every hippy yogi wannabe who has put out a book through CreateSpace... Try to avoid using the original Sanskrit sources as much as possible; they are primary sources and subject to multiple interpretations (as you're already aware!). Needless to say, avoid at all costs trying to give your own idea of what Ananda is (WP:NOR) - just convey, as best you can, the most prevelant modern view of the topic, and any divergent view that is sufficiently well-represented. Yunshui  12:17, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mr Yunshui, I have created the article Ānanda_(Hindu_philosophy), please have a look and recommend improvements. Shrikanthv (talk) 10:51, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shrikanthv. I have done some copyediting to the first half of the article; the second half, is, frankly beyond me, and might be worth ditching altogether (it's highly POV and thus inappropriate under the neutral tone policy, giving far to much weigh to the Advaita Vedanta school of thought). More concerning, though, is that fact that you apparently copied-and-pasted some of the text from Soni Ruchi's AFC - I have placed a copied template on the talkpage to allow for this, but copying text without attribution is a violation of copyright: please don't do it again. In addition, it was somewhat inappropriate to create an article yourself based on work that another user was already putting together at AFC. Content forking like this to resolve an editing dispute is very much frowned upon. Now that the article is "live", it would be a good idea to include Soni Ruchi in its continued evolution; I notice that you've already placed a link on his talkpage, which is commendable.
I have also added the page to WikiProject Hinduism, which will hopefully help draw some more experienced editors who are knowledgable about Hinduism-related topics. Yunshui  11:44, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mr Yunshui. Was unaware of content forking, Thanks for helping, currently i have moved the contraversial content to talk page asking for acertaining and structuring (which i find is a authors POV ) and does not belong to any one of well known authors or contents available. will see what others think Shrikanthv (talk) 12:32, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lutalo Muhammad VANDALISED ENTRIES

Dear Yunshui,

There is a user by name of egghead06 and by the name of David Biddulph who keeps vandalising the site of Lutalo Muhammad, the Olympic Taekwondo athlete.

He is a menace who undermines and deletes Lutalo's achievements continuously.

I want to know if there is a way he can be blocked.

Kind regards,

(talk page stalker) Actually, Legalactionjackson, their edits are correct, and yours are at fault. You are removing sourced information from the page, and adding unsourced information. That's never good on Wikipedia. Furthermore, at this point, edit warring, which you have been advised is inappropriate on your talk page. Please self-revert your own edit, and then go to Talk:Lutalo Muhammad and discuss your concerns. If you don't, you're going to be the one who is blocked. Thanks to both of you. I've rather regretfully filed a report at the edit warring noticeboard, both to get more eyes on this issue and to allow a neutral admin to stabilise the article (I don't feel I can block or protect in this instance, since I've made a revert to the page myself). I still fail to see this supposed defamation/denigration; the Muhammad/Cook controversy was heavily covered at the time (I followed it closely myself) and I can't see how it detracts from Muhammad's Olympic achievments in the slightest. I don't see why VMware is exempt from "wikipedia style" but NVIDIA isn't. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ranunculoid (talkcontribs) 11:28, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:TM states "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules, even if the trademark owner considers nonstandard formatting "official"" and "Using all caps is preferred if the letters are pronounced individually, even if they don't stand for anything." Nvidia is pronounced "en-vidia", and thus requires only a single initial capital. VMware is pronounced "vee-em-ware", and thus requires that both the V and the M be capitalised. NVIDIA would be used if the company's name were pronounced "en-vee-eye-dee-eye-ay" - I don't believe this to be the case, but if you can provide a source showing that it is, please feel free to request a change on the article's talkpage. A very good morning to you. I have been directed to you by Tito Dutta to seek a way to salvage my captioned article. I do not agree with the changes made because no subsequent opinion expressed by any later thinker can supercede what has been stated by the Vedas, the Upanishadas and the Gita. Is it possible to save my version? If so, kindly save it.Soni Ruchi (talk) 04:10, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Soni. One of Wikipedia's main pillars is that we take a neutral point of view on the topics written about - we report what has been said in the available sources, no more. Whilst I appreciate that you may believe the Vedas, Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita to be the last word on the subject of ananda, there are many subsequent sources that also discuss it and interpret it, and these also need to be included. Your version of the article essentially appears to be your personal interpretation of the Vedas, etc. - unless you're a notable Hindu theologian who has had your opinions published elsewhere, I'm afraid that your own readings of the primary sources do not constitute encyclopedic coverage of the topic (basically, you're producing original research, which doesn't get included in Wikipedia). In the same way that we can't include a zealous Christian editor's eschatology based on their interpretation of Revelation, we can't accept your reading of the Bhagavad Gita as an explanation of ananda.
On the positive side, when Shrikanthv copied a large portion of your text over to the mainspace Ānanda (Hindu philosophy) article, he made your version at Articles for creation a permanent page - since it provides attribution for part of the history of the mainspace article, it can't be deleted as long as the mainspace article exists. My suggestion would be for you to leave the AfC page alone now, and concentrate on improving the live page at Ānanda (Hindu philosophy) - take care, though, to abide by Wikipedia's policy on verifiability; anything you add to the article should be available in a published secondary or tertiary source. Don't add your own interpretations of the Vedas. Yunshui  08:04, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Yunshui,
Hope you are having a good time! When you told me to contribute in that article, I thought Soni Ruchi's article has been accepted. I am not very much happy here.. or I am puzzled. Shrikanthv offered help to Soni Ruchi here User_talk:Soni_Ruchi#help. Soni Ruchi denied. The thing which I have been trying not to say for last few days, this is a topic hijacking. Soni Ruchi has worked in that article and should get the attribution. If they have copied portion from AFC without attribution then that is copyright violation. Please share your opinion! --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:54, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Tito. As understand the situation, the sequence of events went something like this:
 • [12] Shrikanthv encounters the AfC, recognises that there are problems with it, and attempts to resolve them with a series of edits [13].
 • [14] Soni Ruchi reverts these edits to the earlier version of the page.
 • [15] Shrikanthv asks for an explanation of the reverting. When no response is forthcoming after a few hours, he forks and creates the article in mainspace, copying some text from the AfC and adding some new material [16].
 • [17] I make a few copy edits to the page and add a copied template to resolve the copyright issue (copying text within Wikipedia is permissible under the licensing terms, but attribution is required - the template provides this).
 • [18] Soni Ruchi incorporates the text of the AfC into the mainspace article, effectively resolving the copyright issue (since his text is now in the mainspace article's history).
In my opinion, both editors have made mistakes here. Shrikanthv's creation of the article in mainspace was inappropriate and he would have done better to discuss the issues with Soni Ruchi and fix the article whilst still at AfC. Soni Ruchi should have been more communicative, and also needs to understand that he does not own the article, in either location. However, since the article is now "live", and since both editors are contributing to it, the best way forward is to forget the AfC and try to address the (many!) current issues with the mainspace page. Primarily, it needs reworking in a neutral tone, and also requires more secondary and tertiary sources. Most of Soni Ruchi's additions constitute unsourced interpretation of the primary sources (see my reply to him above) and need to be sourced to notable commentators, rephrased, or discarded. No-one's coming out of this smelling of roses, but the primary goal now is to turn the page into a decent article. Yunshui  08:20, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for detailed reply. Just a similar event- few weeks ago I created an article Josephine MacLeod, just today I saw someone went to AFC to create the same article. Naturally it got denies as article already existed (note, I created the article much before his AFC). He then copied all portion from AFC and pasted in the mainspace article (just like what has happened here). The article is in much better condition now! Today after knowing these incidents I have given him a barnstar and offered help for his future articles. Some polite words or a smile can make many things easier.
That's the problem here. They were not very much communicative or friendly. And I feel Soni Ruchi should get the article creator's attribution here! --Tito Dutta (talk) 09:06, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
He technically does, via the copied template, but it won't show up in the Toolserver list of his created articles. No easy fix for that, unfortunately. Hopefully you and I can encourage them to move forwards collaboratively; both editors seem willing to converse and compromise to some extent, so we can hopefully help them develop a decent article out of this mess. Yunshui  09:13, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Most probably Soni is "she". I have seen few editors offering help to Soni Ruchi including Shrikanthv. I was trying to avoid this discussion for some reasons (hope you can understand) and I asked her to post in your talk page for better suggestions and since you are trainer of Shrikanthv. We can inform Shrikanthv about current circumstances! He can do a brilliant act here by asking to delete the article (article creator's request to delete) and allow Soni Ruchi to re-create it. Not sure if it is possible or if he will do so! --Tito Dutta (talk) 09:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately the edits to the article by myself, Soni and other users mean that deletion under G7 would not be permitted - it only applies when the page creator requests deletion and no other significant edits have been made. My apologies to Soni if I got her gender wrong - always an easy mistake to make on Wikipedia! Yunshui  09:35, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I am also not sure. Actually the (Indian) name indicates so. My suggestion to Soni Ruchi will be– forget this article, there are thousands of more topics to work. Yunshui, you can adopt Soni Ruchi too if you have any empty slot! Soni Ruchi is facing trouble to add citations. --Tito Dutta (talk) 09:52, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I strictly do not want to take authorship or plagarise someothers content, when i found copy pasting was fork i immediatley removed the previous content and moved it to talk page for discussion , Please have a look here , i do understand i should have discussed this in AFC before. Regarding the topic in itself, here comes the new article (resembling the same), I am trying to communicate and trying to let Ms soni ruchi know that the idea of talk page and discussion , which has not been fruit full till now. however i still believe the Ms soni ruchi is a honest contributor. but may have to undergo wkification little bit. (danger of POV eludes ) Shrikanthv (talk) 07:14, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Facepalm Oh boy. This is not going at all well.
I'm going to delete the Ananda (Vedanta) page as a clear violation of WP:POVFORK. I have no prejudice against including some of the information here in the Ānanda (Hindu philosophy) page (and it's all replicated on the talkpage there, and in the page history, so it's easily accessible for editing and reuse), but we cannot have a separate article on the same subject that clearly exists to push a non-neutral POV. Soni, I'm sorry, but Wikipedia cannot present an article that only discusses the concept from a (your) Vedic perspective - we need one article that discusses all aspects and interpretations (or at least, all aspects and interpretations that have been covered in reliable secondary and tertiary sources).
Shrikanthv, I sincerely hope you can see why creating articles based on other people's AfCs is a bad idea now... Yunshui  08:37, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Things are getting more and more complicated! I can not understand what is going wrong here! REALLY, if you put Yunshui and me in such situation most probably we'll settle everything in just 1 or 2 talk(s) like "Oh, you have created this article, actually I thought to create this one, anyway, I have some content in my sandbox, please see if you can incorporate something there. Ad in my next article you have to definitely help me! "
Do not take it very seriously. Before you say you are feeling disappointed because your article has been deleted (I think you may feel so), let me tell you, few months ago I created an article "Bhooter Bhobishyat", later someone found someone else has created the same article with alternative spelling few days ago and he redirected my article (deleting everything) to that article. I have some 270 articles, but my 3 or 4 articles have been deleted or merged. --Tito Dutta (talk) 09:21, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a tattoo artist to the list

Hi, I would like to add to the table List of tattoo artist an Italian tattoo artist Tom|Tattoo, real name Tommaso Buglioni, one of "the fathers" of modern tattoo art in Italy, working since 1982. He has long worked in the USA, partecipating to several conventions in the States, as, for instance, The NYC Tattoo Convention since his first edition in late '90s. He has a page in the Italian Wikipedia: can I add him to the list even if he has not an English page? I guess I'd mention some reliable sources, how about if I add a list of English language pubblication mentioning Tom Tattoo? Where should I do it? How can I add his name to the list and make it appear in the table? Thanks for your help--Giulia Visci (talk) 10:47, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, it's preferable to write the article first. However, if you can provide sources which demonstrate he meets the notability guidelines (having a page on another wiki isn't sufficient on its own, though the Italian Wikipedia page may list some sources you could use) then you could probably add him. To do so, add the text:

|-

| Tommaos
| (years active)
| Italian

| aka "Tom Tattoo" (additional notes)

to the bottom of the table at the page List of tattoo artists, making sure that you place it between the last entry and the |} device (which marks the end of the table). Yunshui  10:56, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Yunshui: I am recreating a page, with new content, that you previously deleted. I had assistance. I read your other page that you requested users to read first. Please see user sandbox and comment. Thank you. Geraldshields11 (talk) 14:22, 31 October 2012 (UTC) [reply]

Section from another user's talkpage

Cut from talk page

Since the article is now gone (and the talk page with it!) I just wanted to chime in here with a couple of points. First, the alleged copyright infringement of content from gardens.si.edu is not really valid since the Smithsonian Gardens web page was created and maintained by a quasi-Federal government institution--it seems to me that this content should be in U.S. public domain. However, I do understand the need for a greater variety of sources. Second, Geraldshields11, if you do want to keep working on this article in some sandbox space until it is ready for primetime, I am glad to help out with that effort in any way I can. I do have access to the two published print books (Otteson and Park) cited in the article Enid A. Haupt Garden, and can help adding those citations if needed. Thanks for your hard work in sharing knowledge about these important landmark gardens on our National Mall.--Sarasays (talk) 14:00, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, please take a look at my expansion of your work on Smithsonian Gardens. It is currently in my user sandbox, because I didn't want to gunk up your talk page any more. I think it is ready for you to to try publishing it again, if you agree. Keep me posted!--Sarasays (talk) 17:24, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Fellow Wikipedia Editors: Please do the edit at Sarasays' user sandbox. It is a better place and I have already edited and provided discussion at the sandbox talk page. I really appreciated the efforts in making Smithsonian Gardens a better article than the pickachu articles. Geraldshields11 (talk) 01:22, 23 October 2012 (UTC) 01:16, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Gerald. Looks good to me (looks excellent, in fact; well-sourced, nicely written, good structure and coverage), feel free to whack it into mainspace whenever you like. Yunshui  14:26, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Yunshi, Thank you for the compliment. Geraldshields11 (talk) 15:21, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination for Smithsonian Gardens

Allen3 nominated Smithsonian Gardens for consideration to appear on the Main Page as part of Wikipedia:Did you know. You can see the hook for the article here, where you can improve it if you see fit. Geraldshields11 (talk) 15:20, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You're Wrong

Wikipedia's current "definition" of "notability" is WRONG, and it's going to CHANGE. Fansites ARE acceptable as sources, and to say otherwise is to say that they don't matter, which is not true. ResonX (talk) 14:35, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck with that. However, as you say, we are operating under Wikipedia's current definition of notability, which excludes such sites as reliable sources. Yunshui  14:37, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I just told you, that doesn't matter. What matters is what's RIGHT, and your definition is WRONG. ResonX (talk) 14:38, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Also, reliable sources are not the only sources. "Non–reliable" sources are lesser than reliable ones, but still count for something. ResonX (talk) 14:40, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

With an attitude like that which expressly dismisses Wikipedia policies is likely to end with you having a short, but unhappy time here. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:44, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's not my definition. It's Wikipedia's definition, arrived at by community consensus, which is the principal determiner of policy on this site. May other wikis allow fansites as sources, possibly even some of the other language Wikipedias. On the English version of Wikipedia, though, fansites, blogs and forums are not considered viable sources. If you want to change that, I'd suggest you start by proposing your changes at Wikipedia talk:Verifiability, and go from there. If you want to use sources which are currently regarded as unreliable for the purposes of establishing notability, you should try discusssing it at Wikipedia talk:Notability. Personally, I don't think you'll get anywhere - I mean that as a friendly suggestion that you avoid wasting your time and effort, not as a discouragement - but you're welcome to try. Yunshui  14:46, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think you have erred in your deletion of this article. It made a worthy claim of notability and I'm not sure what exactly you saw that made it "unambiguous advertising", but FYI, listing the features of a service is not. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 14:43, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marcus. You're right - I deleted it becuase it failed A7, but because User:Panyd had included G11 when they tagged it with db-multiple, both reasons showed up in the deletion log. Normally I remove the ones I disagree with, but I obviously forgot this time. I'm not going to restore it and redelete it merely to remove the extraneous deletion tag (don't want to clog the log up) but thanks for pointing it out. Yunshui  14:51, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, I didn't read your question fully - you also claimed it made a claim to notability. That I can't see - the text doesn't distinguish it from any other online payment system, of which there are hundreds (mostly non-notable), and there are no third-party sources to suggest it passes GNG. If you want to recreate the page with some appropriate sources (you know the drill), be my guest. Yunshui  14:55, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
300,000 active users, if true (and Alexa appears to validate this), is the same size community as LevelUp. 300,000 is a notable assertion so I would say AfD would be a better venue if it comes to that. There are plenty of sources, albeit some in Russian and of undetermined reliability, [19] [20] [21] [22] and someone thought it was notable enough to write about it on the Russian Wikipedia. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 16:48, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I personally disagree (well, obviously I do, otherwise I wouldn't have deleted it!), but my opinion's beside the point. I'd be more than happy to resurrect the article to your userspace if you want to work on it; let me know if you'd like me to do that. Yunshui  08:26, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes please. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 14:00, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done; it's now here for you to play with. Yunshui  14:04, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sreelakshmi Suresh - Again!

Sorry to bother you, but hope you remember the article, the last AFD discussion etc. The article is - Sreelakshmi Suresh Though I was totally against this article before and started the 4th AFD nomination and discussion, I gave up after you explained the importance of 'Notability' and the Wikipedia basics related to it. I had no complaints on it too. During and after the 4th AFD, the article was pretty much tidy up. I didn't edit it much but I saw other user wikipedia users edited the article as the AFD discussion attracted many. Anyway, I see many small changes recently. Few are somewhat vandalizing and some genuine editing too. anyway, I see few lines are added back in the article by the senior member Mkdw To make it short, here is the discussion we had. I also added a new section in the talk page of the original article - section 8.

Would you please have a look and comment on it? Either here or in the talk page of the article. As you know I am not very familiar with some of the Wkipedia guidlines, so it will be great if you point out whether I am wrong at any point. Thanks in advance. --LVerina (talk) 09:51, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You aren't planning to let this drop, are you? I've left some comments at the article's talkpage. Yunshui  10:22, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
LOL. No, I have no plan for another round of fight on this:) Seriously. As you can see I didn't make any edits after that at all. I see vandalism attempts by few recently and I also see Mkdw adding many lines back. That is when I thought of contacting you again. As I mentioned, the article was pretty neat and tidy up after 4th AFD discussion. It was pretty much on the neutral way. But if we add the lines which were removed before to make the article big, I do not think it will do any good. While I understand the guidelines, rules and notability related parts of Wikipedia, there are a lot of people who rely on Wikipedia thinking its fully (or almost fully) genuine. Yes, it is their fault I know, but the reference to 'AAW' and 'International Awards' will mislead a lot which I am sure. As I see the same thing happened/happening still in India as newspapers and media project the girl as someone with exceptional skills! Thanks again, for checking it and commenting on. --LVerina (talk) 10:55, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback rights

WAIT! Please read this post ENTIRELY before tossing it in the metaphorical trashbin with disgust. The heading makes it seem I would like rollback rights NOW, but that isn't true. Clearly I'm too inexperienced to recieve rollback rights.

Anyway, I've been doing some vandal-fighting mixed in with some new-user welcoming. For the vandal-fighting part, I have found it pretty inconvenient to have to open the diffs, undo the edit, click the browser's "Back" button, and repeat, even if it has some tags that give away the contents. I would like to recieve rollback rights sometime in the future, preferably in a few months or so, when I have showed you that a considerable degree of experience has been shown. Thanks!

- by Kevin12cd... Tell me how I'm doing on my Talkpage! 00:58, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kevin. Well, you're right - I'm afraid you're nowhere near ready to be given the rollback tool. However, there is an easier alternative you could use in the interim - Twinkle. I hesitate to recommend it, since it's a very powerful tool for a comparatively new editor, but if you're extremely cautious, it could be a good next step in your wiki-career.
I would strongly suggest that you finish (and pass, of course!) the vandal-fighting section of your adoption page before setting off with Twinkle; I've seen a number of users blocked for incorrect or excessive Twinkle use in the past and don't want to see you make their mistakes. If you're interested in learning to use the tool, I will try and put together a Twinkle "how to" guide for you, to help you get to grips with it - there are a lot of additional tools in the Twinkle bundle, and they aren't all entirely intuitive. Let me know if you'd like to give it a go. Yunshui  08:01, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Yunshui,

I think Twinkle might be a good start for my vandal-fighting career. I'd like to give it a shot, but not before, as you recommended, completed the Vandalism section of my Adoption page. Thanks for the feedback!

Here's User:Yunshui/Twinkle for beginners, to give you an idea of what tools are available in Twinkle. I've also marked a few more of your responses at User:Yunshui/Adoption/Kevin12xd/Vandals for you. Yunshui  08:53, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: adoption

Hi! I finally remembered my password - I've been editing surreptitiously as an IP for a few months now :P. I've lurked on Wiki for years now, so I know most of the policies intimately - however, I would like to expand my editing horizons. I've mostly limited myself to cosmetic changes, patent-POV removals, and the occasional sourcing... but I've only made a few tentative steps into the actual writing of articles, sections, sub-sections, etc., and then only on one or two articles that I was extremely familiar with. I'm not particularly self-assured! I guess that's a good place to start. I would also be keen to get more involved in the community, the spirit of things, etc. I guess in terms of specifics I need assistance when it comes to writing in an encyclopaedic style, and a more thorough explanation of sources and how to use them, eg. what you can and cannot use a source to claim, synthesis and all that... I hope you know what I mean!!! Anyway, thank you for the offer and I will gladly take you up on it, if you're still keen. Regards, D. Psychonavigation (talk) 01:06, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Psychonavigation - consider yourself adopted, then. As I said on your talkpage, it's clear you know what you're doing, so I suspect this will be a fairly hands-off adoption. However, you can regard me as a first port of call with any questions or problems you have, and if you need assistance writing articles, I'd be happy to lend a hand. Given what you've said above, there's one page in my adoption school you might want to have a go at: the quiz on reliable sources. If you'd like to take it, substitute a copy into your own userspace (create a user subpage with the content "") and answer the questions there.
I look forward to working with you on the encyclopedia. Welcome aboard, and happy editing! Yunshui  08:18, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Something else that might be useful is this essay (it's pitched at newbies and so is a bit below your level, but you may find something useful there). I'd strongly recommend you have a go at creating an article in the near future, it's a very rewarding process. If you'd like to start one off in your sandbox, rather than mainspace, then I'd be happy to help you work it up to a suitable standard before releasing it into the wild. Yunshui  09:58, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much :). I'll take a look at those pages. Yeah, don't worry, I shouldn't be bothering you too much :P I tend to be the sort who browses whilst editing, so a lot of my edits are incidental. But I'm finding more and more time to do some more significant edits, so I'll come to you if I have any larger textual additions in mind. As for writing an article, it's kind of like that saying that "everything that's been invented has already *been* invented", but there are a couple of things in my local area that may or may not be notable enough for their own article... I'll give it some thought. Once again, thanks a lot, and I'll be sure to let you know when I need some help. Peace. :) Psychonavigation (talk) 06:10, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It must be right to delete this page. So you would have done it. But can I get to see the contents of this page so I can try to wikify it? --Abhijeet Safai (talk) 05:25, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abhijeet. The page was deleted as a copyright violation, so I'm afraid I can't restore it. However, the text was copied from this article in The Hindu, so you see what had been written by looking there. The subject appears to be notable; I wish you luck in developing the article. Yunshui  08:09, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! What a great feeling it is to see such a nice message. It gives me immence pleasure to see your response that the person seems notable. Thanks a lot. I have created a page with the name. I was not able to work on it due to lack of time now. I will work on it in a couple of days. Thanks. --Abhijeet Safai (talk) 08:50, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No rush - there's no deadlines here. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Let me know if you need a hand with anything. Yunshui  08:53, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Barnstar awarded by you

Thanks. But, I am not in this family to earn a name or fame for myself. I am here to learn, and whenever and where ever possible to share the results of my learning with others regardless of caste, kind or creed as they say in India. Please do not award or appreciate me. Instead, be harsh, scold me as a teacher would. Keep on guiding me, your continued interest in my progress is the greatest and most truthful reward that I humbly seek. Respectful regards.Soni Ruchi (talk) 14:10, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You want scolding? Okay - stop being so damn humble! You're doing a good job getting to grips with Wikipedia, and you're adding some useful content; yes, there are issues you need to overcome, but you've shown an understanding of wikimarkup, some grasp of policy, and most of all, a willingness to work communally, which is the most important asset anyone can have here. Consider yourself told off for demeaning your good work to date! Yunshui  14:20, 2 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MY article :P

Ok, so, after a brief skimming of the "requested articles" list, I've already found something I'm rather familiar with. My specialty (if I have one) is underground music, and I've chosen Pascal F.E.O.S. as my candidate, as I am a fan of his music. I am in the process of laying out a draft on my sandbox page, but there are a few things I need (I think?). I'd request an IPA rendition of the name "Pascal Dardoufas" (which, based on interviews I've heard, is pronounced "dahr-dooo-fass"), since I cannot - for the life of me - decipher the phonetic alphabet and its myriad new characters. There's also that problem that's kind of inherent to musicians/bands/artists - particularly those of the underground persuasion... notability. I seriously doubt that Pascal F.E.O.S. has been mentioned in any mainstream news publications, because he's not exactly controversial or anything - he's just a DJ, really :P. His official site (http://www.pascalfeos.com/eng/index.php) is a primary source I assume, and can only be used for uncontentious biographical minutiae... the only other English source that offers anything extended is http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/pascalfeos - do you feel that this qualifies as a reliable source? From a cursory examination it appears to be some kind of electronica producer/DJ directory... but I can't tell. There's also a page on Pascal at the German Wikipedia (he's German himself) - so I'd be keen to get some translations of the sources they're using, purely with regards to what I can and cannot claim using a particular source - if any (from what I've heard they're rather lax with the sources over in Deutschland... but that's just what I've *heard*, haha). I hope this isn't too tall an order, but I am a fan of the man's music, and whilst he's not especially well-known in English-speaking countries, he has recorded for several "cult" labels that have garnered quite a reputation over the years, and many of his collaborators have articles too. Let me know what you think. I'll show you the draft when I'm done with it... might work on it overnight. Peace :). Psychonavigation (talk) 06:40, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Psychonavigation. I'd be happy to look over your article before it goes live; let me know when it's ready for review. Based on your note above I think the IPA pronouciation would be dɑːɹ'dœːfas, but since I've never heard the name spoken I'm guessing a bit. If you stick it into the article and someone disagrees, they can always change it.
Source-wise, you're correct regarding the official site - uncontentious biographical details only. Resident Advisor is a reliable source in my book, although ideally an article would be preferred, rather than just a profile listing. Your best bet, by the looks of things, would be foreign language sources - there are plenty of articles listed in the Google News Archive, but the majority seem to be in other languages - I count Romanian, Turkish, Spanish, German and a few others (Polish, possibly?). These are perfectly acceptable as sources, although English sources are preferred (WP:NOENG). In the past, when I've used foreign language articles as sources, I've done so by punching the text into Google translate and extracting whatever information I can be relatively certain of from the resulting machine translation; it's a rather tedious process but it's possible to build most of an article in this way. There also looks to be some usable stuff in Google Books, check out the entries in the All Music Guide to Electronica and Techno: The Rough Guide especially.
You can also take (sourced) information from the German Wikipedia, but if you use a translation of their text be sure to include a Translated page template on the article's talkpage (otherwise you're violating their copyright). That said, I personally always prefer to create my own article from scratch, even if another Wiki (usually the Japanese one, in my case) has got there first.
Best of luck, and as I said above, feel free to ping me for a review when you're ready, or ask for any specific help that you need during the creation process. Yunshui  08:49, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers :). I'll get started today and hopefully have something knocked up by the end of the week (I'm rather busy at the moment). By the way, on a nongermane note, what does the kanji in your user name mean? Thanks again. Peace :) Psychonavigation (talk) 01:54, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He seems to have given up and gone away now, which is good. For future reference, the best course of action when you find something like this is to revert and then either warn the user (depending on the severity of the vandalism and how frequent it's been) or report them to Administrators' intervention against vandalism (shortcut WP:AIV). If you're using Twinkle, you can report them with the AVR function. Cheers for letting me know. Yunshui  08:23, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I need to put more information as you were asking. Sorry for my bashful comment, thanks for the advise. I will revise my page and will put lots of informations regarding the topic. Actually my page was still under editing and proofreading. I hope Wikipedia will have a feature where you can save your page first without publishing it so soon. Wikipedia does have such a feature; it's called a sandbox. Yours is at User:Kasmotdmime/sandbox. You can create your article there unmolested, and bring it up to standard before moving it into mainspace. Yunshui  22:21, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yunshui. You recently deleted a page called Fasta Pasta about a restaurant chain in Australia. This restaurant is similar size to other restaurant chains, which are featured on Wikipedia, such as Hogsbreath Cafe Australia and Wendys Supa Sundaes, and so is of similar significance to these companies featured. I am hoping you can please reinstate the page. I had added a few changes to the web page last week, as I was hoping to be able to change their logo, as I saw that the logo on there was an old one. Would this please be possible, rather than recreating the page? I have posted below the information you put with the deletion for your reference. Look forward to hearing from you.

(talk page stalker) From what I can tell, Yunshui deleted your page because you didn't make enough of a claim to notability that was supported by sources. If he wishes to, Yunshui can userfy the page into your userspace, the most likely location would be for him to move it to User:BecWaters/sandbox or another subpage. If you can find more sources and make a larger claim to notability, then you can ask other editors to take another look at it. gwickwire | Leave a message 01:10, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Gwickwire's correct; I deleted the page under the speedy deletion policy because it made no claim of notability and provided no independent sources. His suggestion of userfication is sensible, and so I have duly recreated the page in your sandbox. You will need to provide multiple, independent, reliable sources containing significant coverage of the chain in order to restore it to mainspace. Yunshui  08:03, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Userfication of Orly Ben-Garti

Recreating deleted copyright infringing material is at best very dubious, for two reasons. Firstly, quite simply, you are knowingly publishing copyright-infringing material. It would not be any defence against a charge of copyright infringement to say "aah, but, your honour, members of the public had to click a link labelled 'history' in order to see the content that I illegally published". What is more, you clearly indicated that you were aware that the content you were making publicly available infringed copyright. Secondly, it is difficult to see a legitimate future use for any content there that does not infringe copyright. If the page is moved back to mainspace then the bad goes there along with any good, so you have contributed to undeleting a deleted copyright article. If, on the other hand, the user page stays where it is, but the user copy-pastes it to mainspace then there are attribution issues. Normal practice is to delete any page which violates copyright all the way from its first version, whether in userspace, mainspace, or any other name space, and then to decline any request for the content to be restored. I really can't see any good reason for making an exception in this case. Furthermore, when you had removed the copyright infringing content, there was nothing of the article left except a list of links to IMDb, Myspace, etc, so it did not rescue any significant non-copyright-infringing content. That makes me wonder what the purpose of undeleting was. The only purpose I can see is to make available the history content, which you knew full well infringed copyright. I have thought very carefully about this, and have decided it goes beyond "hmm, I wouldn't have done it that way, but I see you have decided to", and falls rather in the sphere of "I'm afraid I really think you were wrong, and I feel I have to reverse your action". JamesBWatson (talk) 08:34, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looking back at the incident - yes, you're right, and I was very definitely wrong. No excuses, it was a stupid thing to do. If it's any consolation, when I checked the message I'd left at User talk:Princessbg I almost slapped myself - I certainly know better than that (see a couple of the talkpage threads above, where I've emphatically refused to restore copyright violations) and I've no idea what I was thinking at the time. Thank you for sorting out my mess, and for letting me know. Yunshui  08:44, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted page

12:33, 5 November 2012 Yunshui (talk | contribs) deleted page Logaholic (A7: Article about an eligible subject, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject)

Hello Yunshui,

Yesterday you deleted my contribution to the Logaholic page, but there is certainly significance for the subject. Logaholic, as included in cPanel, has millions of users worldwide. Besides, it's one of the few web analytics software programs that use Log files for data collection. I would very much appreciate if you could undo your deletion, so I can add Logaholic to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_web_analytics_software.

I have restored the page to your userspace at User:Cvdvelde/Logaholic; you can work on it there. I'd suggest removing the list of products, pricing and commercial links, and instead locating reliable, independent sources to give evidence of notability - whilst it may have millions of users and be a near-unique web analysis tool, if nobody who is unconnected with Logaholic has published statements to that effect, we can't have an article on it. A barnstar for you!

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Yunshui, I'm awarding you this barnstar as you gave me help and encouragement when I needed it! It seems to be the best way of showing my appreciation to someone who works tirelessly to help and advise others! SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:39, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PS: I think I'm even starting to get the hang of editing Wiki stuff now - have a peak at Irish Red and White Setter if you get the chance! PPS: .....but I expect I've put this in the wrong place!

Thank you Phil, that's very kind. I'm impressed by your expansion of the article - so much so that I've filed a DYK nomination for it on your behalf. Yunshui  11:00, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RfA vote

Thanks for pointing out my mistake, I somehow confused the names when writing my vote, but meant obviously Northamerica1000. The link is about his contributions too. I corrected it, and since it is not a part of the discussion, I took the liberty to delete it. Kraxler (talk) 14:49, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine; I'd have redacted the comments myself if you hadn't gotten there first. I was just concerned that you were implying Road Wizard was a sock, given the concerns already raised. Yunshui  14:50, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The point with the "Preview button" is well taken. We all make mistakes sometimes, and the "Preview button" helps a lot to avoid them, but sometimes they slip through, nebertheless. On the other side, I've been editing Wikipedia since 2006, and never asked to be an admin. Nobody nominated me without my knowledge, either... :D
I actually didn't notice anything about socks, but now I get it what the question about "other accounts" was referring to. Hmmm... Kraxler (talk) 14:57, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your message on my TP

Hi Yunshui,

Thanks for letting me know about my incorrect CSD tagging. After some consideration, I have decided that I will disable Twinkle for now since it is very tempting to "Random Page" around looking to speedy delete things. On a related note, I will spend some time adding citations to General Walker Hotel. Thank you for your time. Have a great day!

That's a very sensible and level-headed decision, for which I commend you. It's easy enough to turn back on if you want to use it in the future. I look forward to seeing what you can do with the hotel - don't forget to look for sources under "Hotel Platterhof" as well.
On another note (and I'm truly sorry to have to keep throwing wiki-rules at you), please could you remove the File:Wiki.png from your signature - the guidelines specifically prohibit using images in signatures. Cheers, Yunshui  08:26, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Voltage_controller

Hi Mr Yunshui, I have created this page Voltage_controller please have a look and give me a review on things to improve or being corrected and how to make it a GA if possible. I take your suggestion never going to see things in AFC was really bad idea, and beleive science is less complicated than philosophy to right article!! Shrikanthv (talk) 09:36, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's fabulous! I've very impressed at first glance; the subject is clearly notable, there's a nice range of references to good sources, the text is coherent (if a little over my head, electronics is not a field I know much about) and it looks nice, expecially since you've included some images. My immediate ideas for expansion would be: more information regarding practical applications (as a lay reader, I want to know why converting a fixed AC supply to a variable voltage is useful); something of the device's history (who invented it, how was it developed?); change the format of the Applications section from a headed list to a bulleted list; add some categories; and stick a WikiProject Electronics template on the talkpage, to attract that project's attention and get some more editors involved. I wouldn't head for a GA just yet - the article needs quite a bit of work to get to that stage - but it's not an inconceivable goal. In the interim, see if you can work the article up sufficiently for a Did you know? hook. You've done a really great job with this, well done. Yunshui  09:53, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

DYK ? can you guide me through this ? Mr Yunshui ? Shrikanthv (talk) 15:07, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's fairly complex, I'm afraid, and I'm going offline in a few moments - start by having a read of the eligibility criteria, and work on the article so that it meets them. I'll take a look tomorrow and put together a nomination if it's appropriate. Once more, very good work! Yunshui  15:13, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mr Yushui, Have made last minute revision and checks please have a look at it know, I thank you for all the support and guidance and i see that i am fine at creating article than destroying them Shrikanthv (talk) 07:38, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A quick question about afd

Hi! I was wondering say if there was an afd like this one[23] which met the criteria for a speedy delete, is it appropriate to nominate it through speedy delete rather than let the afd sit there for days until someone closes it? Or just leave it there and wait for general consensus? Thank you! Dengero (talk) 14:28, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As long as you leave the AFD template in place (so that the deleting admin can easily see that there's an AFD to close as well) there's no reason not to add a CSD tag to such an article; I've done it many a time. If it's a genuine candidate under the (fairly restrictive) criteria for speedy deletion, it should be tagged as such, regardless of any PROD or AFD templates in place at the time. It's also a good idea to suggest speedy deletion at the AFD discussion as well (as you did). Yunshui  14:32, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Login problem

Hi Yun. A friend of mine (User:CHCS06) has been trying to login but has forgotten his password and when he tries 'forgotten login details' he gets the message that he can't do that because the IP is blocked ("to prevent abuse" the page says). Any suggestions? Your friendly Wikipedia prefect :) - (I can haz Cheezburger?) 14:37, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The easiest (if not the quickest) solution is for him to try logging on from his home computer this evening, and retrieve his password then. Because the school's IPs (most of them, at any rate) are blocked, he'll have trouble trying to get his password back from school (although if he remembers/retrieves it, he should have no problem logging on as a registered user). I'll have a poke about and see if I can find a good alternative, but I don't currently know of one, short of unblocking all the school IPs temporarily (which wouldn't go down at all well...). You have granted Francophonie&Androphilie (talk · contribs · logs) confirmed right on 6 November 2012. Now that he became autoconfirmed, this right is redundant. Could you remove it? Regards, Armbrust The Homonculus 17:54, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
