Black Philosophers?
Is there anyway Wiki could provide a list of a few Black Philosophers? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.115.69.3 (talk) 02:18, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

I'm not very technical so I didn't understand the help explanation. I tried to site where there is information on what my edit was. It says: ^ . 13 October 2013 http://bringbackmyboys.org. Missing or empty |title= (help) I don't know how to fix it. I had originally typed <ref>{{cite web|url=http://bringbackmyboys.org |date=13 October 2013}}</ref>. Please tell me how to fix this. - I assume you are referring to the edits you have made to our article on the Hague Convention on Parental Responsibility and Protection of Children. I am sorry to have to tell you that the source you are citing cannot be used in the way you propose, regardless of problems with formatting the reference. You are using it to make allegations of a crime - and any such allegations would need to come from a third-party reliable source, rather than a website run by an involved individual. In any case, it is entirely inappropriate to go into details of a single ongoing case in the article, in the way you are doing - in an article covering an international convention of worldwide scope. We clearly cannot cover every case affected by the convention, and even with proper sourcing, there appears to indicate that the case you have included is any more significant than others. Given the fact that the source is entirely unacceptable, and given the lack of any third-party reliable source to indicate any particular significance, I am going to remove the material you have added. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:38, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- I see someone else has removed the material before me. [1] AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:40, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- I have restored the deleted material, but replaced the blog reference to a reliable reference, The Independent, one of the many references cited in the blog. I am not claiming that the paragraph's presence in the article is justified; but deleting the whole thing on the grounds that the reference it cited was unacceptable, seems excessive. Maproom (talk) 08:04, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Per WP:BLP policy, without a reliable source, removal of the material was obligatory. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:25, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. There are dozens of media articles about this case including court press releases, but I didn't really know how to handle the siting, I appreciate your guidance on that. I think the case is significant because it's a first for the UK as well as for Russia. Throughout the world this convention has seen very little use to date, but this will change soon. I study abduction law and know that there are dozens of Central Authorities from signatory countries watching this case. I also thought it good for left-behind parents seeking information, the 1980 Convention can't be used with Russia vis a vis most countries, and the few trials have failed. I think it justified that both EU and Russia have their own sections. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lisa Jakobs (talk • contribs) 23:11, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

It claims allegations are "false", however they should surely be worded "unsubstantiated" or at the very least worded such that they are allegations "without concrete/substantial evidence" or something to indicate they are neither proven nor disproven — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.210.106.102 (talk) 07:51, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Proposed changes to the article should be discussed on its talk page. But note that, according to the sources linked to in the article, the newspapers themselves admitted in court that the allegations were both "seriously defamatory" and "utterly false". - I see that you have been removing well-referenced material from the article, on the false grounds that its placement there is "vandalism". Instead, you should discuss the issue on the article's talk page. Maproom (talk) 09:10, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- You also need to be cautious about using terms like "libel", which could be construed as a legal threat. Judging by your talk page, there are editors who are willing to engage with you over any genuine concerns you may have about the article and try to reach consensus over the wording. - To be fair, the article was created about a month ago by an editor who does not have a lot of experience. In my opinion, the list is rather short and can likely be folded into the Slender Man article. Dismas|(talk) 10:35, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Asking for Help on a Page
I have created a page, but I do not have any idea what to class to rate it as, and am wondering if there is a way to ask editors who might be interested in my page to help me with it. Also, how to I ask for someone to review it so I can know what changes need to be made to improve it? Is there a way to nominate an article for review? The page is here: National Weather Service Norman, Oklahoma Dustin talk 17:30, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Why was my article deleted?
I spent countless hours on an article, and now it has been deleted. The article is National Weather Service Norman, Oklahoma. The person who deleted it left this message: No explanation of significance (real person/animal/organization/web content/organized event
What? Seriously? If you delete this article, then you may as well delete every other NWS forecast office page. Please help me! Dustin talk 17:56, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
The deleter, User:Orangemike, didn't even nominate it for deletion, he just flat out deleted it! NWS Norman is significant enough that I would consider that it needs an article. He didn't leave me a message to fix any problems or anything. This is serious! Please, I spent so much time on this article, and I can't just let it be deleted in an instant without even being notified, or asked to fix any problems! Dustin talk 18:02, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Seriously: no local NWS forecast offices are notable enough to justify an encyclopedia article. That's not to disparage the vital work they do: far from it; it's just the realities of a global project like ours. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:13, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
But if you check this page here... List of National Weather Service Weather forecast offices
This one here even achieved Good Article status, even though its been a while since it has been updated: National Weather Service Lincoln, Illinois Dustin talk 18:19, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Come on! I know that a lot of NWS forecast offices don't have pages because there is not much significance to many of them, but this one has a lot of history! And not only that, what are you going to do about the other twenty-or-so NWS office articles? Please! This can't happen! Especially not after all the time that I've spent! Dustin talk 18:35, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Someone please tell me why, when there are over 20 other articles on NWS forecast offices, that my article is the only one to be deleted? I mean, I assumed that with that many different articles, that mine should most certainly not meet the criteria for speedy deletion without any user consensus. I mean, as I have already listed, if these articles are all unimportant, than how are there still so many of them, and how did one of them even achieve GA status? Dustin talk 19:10, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
I am sorry if it seems that I am posting too often, but to User:Orangemike, or to any user willing to answer, please reply to what I have said! This is a serious issue, and this will not go unanswered! Dustin talk 19:54, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- I consider all of these to be non-notable; but if some other admin wants to restore the article, I will not whine. Dustin: please note that WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not considered a valid argument for creation or retention of an article; and that we are all volunteers. Crying like a baby because you didn't get an answer to your query right away is not going to help you be taken seriously; nor is (figuratively) stamping your feet and demanding attention NOW with vague threats of "this is not going away". --Orange Mike | Talk 20:46, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

What is the first step: A wp:rs or a talkpage consensus?
user:Pluto2012 regularly deletes a lot of my editing.
- I have added a quote (The Diff page) and modified the article (The Diff page) according to the quote. Pluto deleted the quote (The Diff page) and told me to get a consensus. He has undone my well supported article editing as well (while violating the wp:1RR (The Diff page) without a supporting wp:rs to his view.
The consensus is automatically against me, since I am the only regular Israeli editor in this article. Nevertheless , I have to respect it. However, I provide an wp:rs while he deletes my editing without providing a supporting wp:RS. Can I ask him to provide an wp:rs as the first step, and later achieving a consensus ? OR he is right, and the consensus is the first step, does not matter whether he do not have a wp:rs ?
- I have undone his "undone" (The Diff page) and wrote:"the term "invasion" is well supported. the term "intervened" is an error, unless you provide an RS" . He responded in my talk page. It is not the first time that he does not respond to the point, which is "invaded" Vs "intervened" . Again, I provide an wp:rs, while he "promised" to delete my editing, while ignoring my demand to present a supporting wp:rs. Am I right when I ask him for a supporting wp:rs before he deletes my editing? Ykantor (talk) 19:27, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- You are before all a lier who distorts both the way you are in dispute with half a dozen of contributors and also the sources you claim to use in cherry-picking quotes.
- The 1st step is to respect what the sourceS say exactly and to respect WP:NPoV when you are aware they are different points of view.
- You are perfectly aware you don't comply with WP:NPOV in providing ONE source with ONE quote that complies with what you say when you have been provided MANY sources before that say the contrary and when you don't even take into account the discussion on the talk page about these issues.
- Enough is enough. I have lost enough time with you.
- Your new story is now the famous "invasion of the newly born State of Israel", which you support by the title of an article of Morris and in removing the fact the Jordan army participated and was the most important one. Funny WP:OR. Morris talks about invasion but invasion of Palestine, as Yoav Gelber. You also forget to mention that you childish intervention repeated the same information in the same sentence, which is totally useless. And of course, you refuse even to imagine that they are other scholars.
- YourWikipedia:Civil POV pushing is not welcome on wikipedia. Pluto2012 (talk) 20:06, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Please stop personal attacks. So many words but you do not provide any supporting wp:rs yet. Ykantor (talk) 20:21, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Dispute resolution requests/DRN should give you some ideas of what your dispute resolution options are. If the dispute is between two editors, you can request a third opinion. If there are more editors involved, you can file a request for comment to get community input on a specific point of contention. There is also the dispute resolution noticeboard, formal mediation, and arbitration. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:46, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- I wish the wp:drn would deal with those problems but in my limited experience WP:Dispute resolution is useless. (sorry for the harsh words).e.g. This is my experience during the last months:
- DRN expired with no solution. The other side changed his mind and left the discussion.
- DRN expired with no solution. The other sites respond was not what he was asked for by the volunteer.
- DRN expired with no solution. No volunteer.
- "Requests for mediation/Kfar Etzion massacre" have not started The other side declined.
- DRN expired with no solution Futile, no participation by one editor; has been refiled at WP:3O
- "1948 Arab–Israeli War" DRN expired with no solution. The volunteer could not continue
- If I understand you, there is no rule that says what is the first step: A wp:rs or a talkpage consensus? thanks Ykantor (talk) 16:20, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Protesting Against the Deletion of a Page
Is there any was to protest against the deletion of a page, so that users can come to an actual consensus concerning it? This admin deleted a page of mine (National Weather Service Norman, Oklahoma), claiming that it was too unimportant a topic, but I disagree, but don't think I have enough authority. I am fairly sure that there are other admins who agree with me though. Before I created this page, an admin, User:Ks0stm, was even planning to create it, as seen on Ks0stm's To-do list, meaning that there is another admin who disagrees with User:Orangemike. Orange Mike claims that no National Weather Service forecast office is important enough to need a page, but the problem is that if you go to the page, List of National Weather Service Weather forecast offices, you can see that there are over twenty other NWS forecast office pages in existence, disproving him. Not only that, but one of those pages, National Weather Service Lincoln, Illinois, even achieved GA class. I hope that I have provided enough evidence that this article needs to be kept, and I just need to find out how to protest its deletion. To cut it short: How do you protest against the deletion of a page that you created? Dustin talk 20:24, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Editting name on Wikipedia
When logged out, and searching my company name on Google, the heading, "USER-Co name Wikipedia" appears. How do I remove the "USER" part, so that only the company name and Wikipedia appear? Robert Scott 22:09, 13 October 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Muttfish (talk • contribs)
- You have not created an article. You have created a user account in the name of Muttfish, and then used that account's user page to write some promotional text about your own company, violating both the userpage guidelines and the ones about conflict of interest. The text is unsuitable to move into article space as it is unencyclopaedic, in tone, totally lacking in references and gives no indication of how this company satisfies Wikipedia's requirements on notability. You're also in breach of the rules about usernames because Wikipedia doesn't allow usernames that imply an account that edits on behalf of a company. Sorry to throw so much bad news your way, but you probably want to pick another username if you're going to keep editing, and familiarise yourself with some of the policies I've linked to, particularly the ones about conflict of interest. Wikipedia isn't the place to promote your company, I'm afraid. - Karenjc (talk) 23:26, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
Concern regarding another editor
I have noticed an issue with another user creating a large number of new article-redirects, some which seem to be a COI/bias. I attempted to start a dialog with the person on their talk page, but they blanked it. I do not necessarily feel it is vandalism, but while looking through the other conflict resolution sections I do not feel it fall under any of the noticeboards I have seen. Is there a place I can request an honest review or second opinion of the situation without being confrontational?--☾Loriendrew☽ ☏(talk) 23:52, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Loriendrew: Hi, when you open a discussion on another user's page, and they delete it, it's presumed that they have read it per WP:REMOVED. So if you are earnestly and frequently approaching the editor with concerns that they are deliberately ignoring your good-faith attempts to discuss controversial content, and they choose to not participate in any discussion, you might want to elevate your concerns either to requests for comment/users or to WP:AN/I It's always a bummer when it comes to that, and as long as you bring your "tophat and tails" civility to the process, and your arguments are sound, you might see remedy in the form of community support. Hope it works out! Cyphoidbomb (talk) 05:10, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Loriendrew: Hi, I thought of another approach: Maybe a way to achieve the result (the removal of COI/bias) without raking the editor through the coals of community scrutiny, is to request a third opinion on the content, or a request for comment on the content. With an RFC, you might get editors who would speak out against the bias, sending a message of disapproval without direct finger-pointing at the editor you are disagreeing with. Page title needs changing
The page Tom Tyler Stradivarius is incorrectly titled. it should be titled "Tom Taylor Stradivarius". I changed the page contents to reflect this and added an authoritative reference but I don't know how to change the title. The page(stub) seems to have been created by an anonymous editor with a non-existent account. RMcGuigan (talk) 15:14, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Ref 2 in the article says "Tom Tyler". Ref 1 says "Huberman Stradivarius", with no mention of Tom anybody. Ref 3 seems to make no mention of the instrument or its owner, but it is possible that some further link from there might say something. - David Biddulph (talk) 15:35, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- It is also rather confusing that you have redirected your user page and user talk page to Robert McGuigan, but that account shows very few edits, including none to the article in question. It would be less confusing if your signature actually went to the pages of your active account. - David Biddulph (talk) 15:44, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Ref 2 is simply wrong, the CNN reporter got the name wrong. That must be the source of this proliferating error. The "Huberman Stradivarius" is the current violin of Joshua Bell who formerly owned the "Tom Taylor". Ref 3 points to a database of stringed instruments and the Tom Taylor violin is their reference ID number 541. Unfortunately it seems that the link I entered goes to the home page of the database rather than the page for the Tom Taylor strad. As it is now it is necessary to enter the ID number (541) in the search field on the page. I'll see if I can make the link more direct; failing that I'll provide a better reference. Sorry about the confusing redirect. I can't remember now how/why it happened but I'll try to fix it. I understand why the situation on the Tom Tyler Stradivarius page is difficult, with conflicting references; when I get a useful reference I'll delete reference 2, but the title will still be incorrect. reporting problem with an article WP:International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society
I am new to Wikipedia. I tried to report a problem with an article by going to the article's talk page as was the recommended procedure on your HELP section. I received no reply, so I am reporting the problem here as is recommended. As I explained on the article's talk page, I really do not want to edit or be involved with editing. I am a medical practitioner and I am much too busy to get involved in drawn-out discussions. For the most part I believe that Wikipedia's medical articles are well-written and informative. However, I could not help but notice inaccuracies in both the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) article and the article on Lyme disease. Firstly, ILADS is a medical society rather than a patient advocacy group. There is a difference in that the members of a medical society are health care practitioners or professionals in careers related to health care. Secondly, both articles are written from a biased point of view. Both articles are biased on the topic of Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS) or Chronic Lyme Disease (CLD) -- it really does not matter to me what name you wish to call it. The fact that PTLDS/CLD is a controversial topic is pointed out, but then the article only presents one point of view -- the point of view that persistent infection after antibiotic tratment does not exist. As this is a controversial topic, articles should accurately reflect the controversy -- not just present one point of view. There are peer-reviewed studies representing both sides so why not have your articles reflect this? From 1984 to date there are over 100 peer-reviewed articles that provide evidence that both humans and animals can have persistent infection after antibiotic treatment. It is very irresponsible to not provide up-to-date medical information that reflects the wide range of literature out there. Furthermore, the articles present the NIH and IDSA point of view. It should be noted that on the CDC's website on this topic, while leaning towards the point of view that symptoms related to Lyme disease post-antibiotic treatment are not caused by persistent infection, acknowledges that is is a grey area that needs further study, and I quote: "some health care providers tell patients that these symptoms reflect persistent infection with Borrelia burgdorferi. Recent animal studies have given rise to questions that require further research and clinical studies to determine the cause of PTLDS in humans are ongoing." I have read in Wikipedia's policies that secondary resources published in peer-reviewed journals are considered appropriate medical references. There are some review articles that support the point of view that persistent infection post antibiotic treatment exists. I have noticed in the talk pages on these topics that various editors have tried to make changes. Each time their changes have been removed and not always in a manner that is consitent with Wikipedia's own policies. I have no desire to wast my time, but I would like to report the problems and I hope that these inaccuracies will be corrected.Rogerroger.martin (talk) 00:26, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Rogerroger.martin: Hello sir, thank you for following up on your talk page post. Sometimes it takes a little while for interested editors to respond to talk page discussions. I notice that you mentioned on the talk page that you are a medical practitioner, but you are not interested in participating in editing. That's fine, (and to be honest, sometimes the rules around here can be intimidating for new users) but maybe a good approach would be to post (again on the Talk Page) a version of a paragraph (for example) that exemplifies the balanced point of view you are suggesting. Obviously presenting reliable sources is crucial to support a perspective different from the one currently being presented in the article. That's my recommendation in a nutshell. I have no experience with medical articles, so I'm sorry that I can't be of more help than to offer general suggestions, perhaps my fellow volunteers can provide you with information more tailored to your expertise and to your objections. Carrier Strike Group Five Carrier Strike Group Five, (CSG-5 or CARSTRKGRU 5), is the U.S. Navy carrier strike group assigned to the Pacific Fleet and permanently forward deployed to Seventh Fleet. U.S. Navy Carrier Strike Groups are employed in a variety of roles across the complete spectrum of warfare of maintaining sea control and projecting air power ashore to humanitarian assistance and disaster response. The CSG-5 Commander also serves as Battle Force Seventh Fleet and Commander, Task Force (CTF 70) for Seventh Fleet. In these responsibilities, CSG-5 serves as the Commander of all surface forces (carrier strike groups, independently deploying cruisers, destroyers and frigates) in the Seventh Fleet area of responsibility. CTF 70 also serves as the Theater Surface Warfare Commander (TSUWC) and Theater Integrated Air Missile Defense Commander (TIAMDC) for Seventh Fleet. The Strike Group Flagship is the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) which also embarks Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5). As of June 2013, CSG-5 includes the Aegis Cruisers USS Shiloh (CG 67), which also serves as the Seventh Fleet Ballistic Missile Defense Commander, and USS Antietam (CG 54) which serves as the Air Defense Commander for the strike group. Destroyer Squadron Fifteen (CDS-15) serves as the Sea Combat Commander and is also responsible for the seven assigned Arleigh-Burke class destroyers, USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), USS Stethem (DDG 63), USS Lassen (DDG 82), USS McCampbell (DDG 85) and USS Mustin (DDG 89). The Strike Warfare Commander is CVW-5 which includes: Strike Fighter Squadrons (VFA) 102, 27, 115 and 195; Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 141; Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 115; Fleet Logistics Support Squadron (VRC) 30 Detachment 5; Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadrons (HSM) 51 and 77; and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 12. George Washington and the nine surface combatant ships operate out of Yokosuka, Japan, while CVW-5 operates out of Atsugi, Japan, when not embarked on the George Washington. Together, these units form the U.S. Navy's only continuously forward deployed (and largest) carrier strike group and are critical combat elements of the U.S. Seventh Fleet. History Carrier Strike Group Five was originally established during World War II on April 25, 1944 by Rear Admiral Frank Wagner as Carrier Division Five when he assumed command aboard USS Wasp and USS Hornet in Pearl Harbor. Rear Admiral J.J. Clark succeeded Wagner and commanded the unit through 12 months of sustained combat operations in the Western Pacific and waters surrounding Japan, working for both Third Fleet (ADM William Halsey) and Fifth Fleet (ADM Raymond Spruance). This included participation in the First and Second Philippine Sea Battles and the Iwo Jima and Okinawa campaigns. During the Korean War, Rear Admiral G.R. Henderson commanded Carrier Division Five and served as Commander, Task Force (CTF) 70 and 77 aboard USS Princeton (CV 37). Carrier Division Five moved back and forth between Yokosuka, Japan and the Korean Theater, serving as CTF 70 or 77 on multiple occasions. Prior to the Vietnam War, the location of Carrier Division Five moved between several Pacific ports and utilized rotating carriers from the West coast of the U.S. as its flagship. During the Vietnam War, 12 different commanders led Carrier Division Five and Task Force 77 in numerous combat deployments to the Vietnam War zone. Beginning in 1964 Carrier Group Five was permanently deployed to the Western Pacific and dual-hatted CTF 70/77, homeported at Naval Air Station Cubi Point in the Philippines. Carrier Division Five became Carrier Group Five on June 30, 1973, and in October, Carrier Group Five arrived in Yokosuka, Japan aboard USS Midway marking the first forward deployment of a complete Carrier Task Group in a Japanese port (the associated Air Wing, CVW-5, moved into Atsugi, Japan this same year). Carrier Group Five shifted its forward deployed location from Cubi Point, Republic of Philippines to Yokosuka in mid-1991. Midway remained in Yokosuka for 18 years and was relieved by USS Independence (CV 6) on September 11, 1991. In the lead up to the Gulf War, Rear Admiral Daniel March, Commander, Carrier Group Five, became Commander, Task Force 154 (Battle Force Zulu), part of Naval Forces Central Command. The Task Force led four carriers (USS Midway (CV 41), USS Ranger (CV 61), USS America (CV 66), and USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) in the Arabian Sea/Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm. On August 11, 1998, USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) relieved Independence as the Carrier Group Five flagship. After the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, DC, on September 11, 2001, the Kitty Hawk Battle Group was ordered to deploy to the Indian Ocean and was later involved in combat missions against the Taliban and Al Qaida in Afghanistan. The ships got underway again in January 2003 with orders to deploy to the Persian Gulf as part of the build-up of military forces in the area in preparation for the war against the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Kitty Hawk arrived on station late February/early March and from March 20 on, participated in air strikes against targets in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. USS George Washington (CVN 73) relieved Kitty Hawk on September 25, 2008. Carrier Group Five was renamed Carrier Strike Group Five October 1, 2004. In 2011, Carrier Strike Group Five participated in two Humanitarian Assistance operations, Operation Tomodachi in Japan and support to Thailand during their worst flooding in 50 years. Command Structure Commander, Carrier Strike Group 5 is responsible for unit-level training, integrated training, and material readiness for the group’s ships and aviation squadrons. As the only continuously forward deployed carrier strike group, CSG-5 does not stand down when the strike group is in Yokosuka, but instead continues to maintain command responsibilities over deploying Carrier Strike Groups and independently deployed cruises, destroyers, and frigates that operate in the Seventh Fleet operating area. The commander and staff are also responsible for the higher level Task Force 70 duties throughout the year in addition to the CSG-5 duties. The composition of the strike group in immediate proximity of the George Washington varies throughout the year. Group commanders since 2000 have included: Rear Admiral Timothy Keating (June 1998 – September 2000) Rear Admiral Robert Williard (September 2000 – September 2001) Rear Admiral Steve Kunkel (September 2001 – February 2003) Rear Admiral Matthew Moffit (March 2003 – May 2003) Rear Admiral James Kelly (July 2003 – July 2005) Rear Admiral Douglas McClain (July 2005 – February 2007) Rear Admiral Richard Wren (February 2007 – December 2008) Rear Admiral Kevin Donegan (December 2008 – May 2010) Rear Admiral Dan Cloyd (May 2010 – April 2011) Rear Admiral J. R. Haley (April 2011 – January 2013) Rear Admiral Mark Montgomery (January 2013 – Present) About Forward Deployed Naval Forces The United States of America is a nation with global interests. We conduct trade with other nations on an unmatched scale as the U.S. imports and exports hundreds of billions of dollars per year in goods and services. Perhaps due to our history as a nation of immigrants, we desire to foster democracy around the world. Those and other interests cannot be acted upon if we do not maintain a strong presence well forward of our borders. For a century and a half, the U.S. Navy has maintained a presence in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean to promote peace, regional cooperation and stability. That forward presence is maintained by the Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF) of the Navy-Marine Corps team. The concept of forward presence in the U.S. Navy has existed since 1907, when President Roosevelt's Great White Fleet of 16 battleships sailed over 40,000 miles, making twenty port calls on six continents. Today, FDNF operate out of bases and ports around the world, including the Arabian Gulf, Mediterranean, and the Western Pacific, home to the 5th, 6th, and Seventh Fleets, respectively. Our presence in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region is more important than ever. U.S. naval forces help encourage dialogue, promote growth and ensure the free flow of trade, of which the oceans have increased importance. The Indo-Asia-Pacific region is one of the most dynamic areas of our rapidly-changing world, and our fleet must be maintained at a high state of operational, materiel and personnel readiness in order to be flexible and responsive to address a crisis situation requiring military support. Forces continuously stationed forward (as FDNF forces are) provide increased operational responsiveness for a crisis, strengthening partnerships with our treaty bound allies and help shape the operational environment during steady state operations. These units are true “force multipliers” for the Pacific Fleet and Seventh Fleet Commanders. - Hello, and thank you for your service! The best place to make your suggestions about article content is the specific article's talk page. It is worth noting that in order for these contributions to survive, they must be supported by reliable sources independent of the subject, and cannot contain original research. So while your position as a public affairs officer might provide you with information not easily obtained by the public, we must need to be able to source them beyond your personal observation and interpretation, as all information on Wikipedia must be verifiable. That is, anybody should be able to trot down to a library to start verifying the facts. The article currently has seven references. If you can provide more, and submit them as in-line references, that would be fantastic. If you need any help, I'm happy to answer your questions, as would be any other Wikipedia editor. I do admit that I know nothing about military history, though. Respectfully, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:53, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
citing references
How do I cite a reference multiple times. I have cited a reference once which appears in the reference list eg Smith,P. (2003)......If I want to cite this again in the article again how do I do it. I type in <rename=smith... but t creates a new reference instead of just putting the number used for smith previously used. Is the problem that I have not defined somehow a name for the first smith paper. If so how do I do that
Many thanks 05:55, 14 October 2013 (UTC)05:55, 14 October 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Csuenm (talk • contribs)
- This is described at WP:REFNAME. You need to adjust your first reference to say
<ref name="Favaloro">Favaloro, N. ... </ref>
, and then you can use it again with the code<ref name="Favaloro"/>

Hebrew wikipedia editors racism
Dear Sirs at Wikipedia worldwide,
Racism by wikipedia Hebrew entries editors: Lostam, Assayas, Nero Yair and Gilgamesh is done daily!!! Their approach to cut entries of sephardic Jews subjects is obvious, they oppose any edits to add true facts and details. Those editors way of rejecting to accept other users opinion, is unacceptable in the 21st century. They clearly violate the freedom of writing in wikipedia but dictate their mood negatively. Due to their irresponsible acts, that show they are not serious, no one will donate any more to wikipedia not even one cent because of their narrow mind. Another point is that those editors admit they have no clue nor background in many areas that they watch, they decide too fast without using any deep thoughts regarding how the public would benefit from reading entries and learning. Wikipedia has lost donations as a consequence of letting those editors do as they wish instead of controlling them . It is important that wikipedia headquarters be aware of those arrogant Hebrew editors. Israel6565 (talk) 06:12, 14 October 2013 (UTC)--
- This is the help desk for English Wikipedia, not "wikipedia headquarters". We here have no influence over what happens at Hebrew Wikipedia. Maproom (talk) 07:33, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Do we have a mechanism for forwarding this kind of stuff to the right Wikipedia? It might help to avoid in future the shitstorms we are currently getting in the media, with regard to non-English Wikipedias and racism, discrimination, bias, etc. Thanks ツ Jenova20 (email) 08:55, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

I added an article about Prof.Ramazan Sarı, who is one of the famous economist in Turkey. Although I added the article on 29th of August, it is still not published. Actually, it is seen only my Sandbox. I'd like to know whether there are something wrong with this entry? What can I do to accelarate the process. ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hmenges (talk • contribs) 07:50, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- User:Hmenges/sandbox seems to be mostly not in English, and it is also completely unclear what it is supposed to be an article about, so it is not suitable for inclusion as an article in the English Wikipedia. Please take a look at some existing recognised Wikipedia Good Articles at Wikipedia:GA to get an idea of how an article should be written, formatted and structured. "Biosphere Conciousness"
I would like to open a wikipedia Subject called: "Biosphere Consciousness"
I would like to do this by posting an article written by Keith Gordon - for - Seattle Everyday Spirituality Examiner - about a talk given by: Jeremy Rifkin - entitled - The Empathic Civilization / Ross Institure Summer Academy 2010.
It is a well written article and Jeremy Rifkin's talk is spot on and very pertinent.
In my mind the most critical thing humanity can be focused on at this time.
Please let me know how to go about this, Thank you in advance, Starlightwalking — Preceding unsigned comment added by Starlightwalking (talk • contribs) 08:34, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- One imagines the Seattle Everyday Spirituality Examiner retain copyright over their material, so you cannot post material from their publication on Wikipedia. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 08:55, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Even if they do not retain copyright, Wikipedia is not a publisher, it does not allow essays or other original research to be reproduced - please see WP:NOTESSAY. If the subject "Biosphere Consciousness" has already been covered in sufficient, third party, reliable sources an article could be written on the subject, but not until then. Arjayay (talk) 09:01, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Starlightwalking: "Biosphere Consciousness" sounds like a neologism. Neologism articles are magnets for deletion. Something to think about. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:35, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Can't figure out the codes of this table from Thong (clothing). Please take a look. Lines should run through the table and not end or begin inside a column.
It would be great if I could change the "backs" column to read - Low coverage (V-string and Maebari), Medium coverage (G-string, T-back, C-string ) and High coverage (Cheeky and T-back). The sides row should read - Strap (V-string, G-string, Cheeky), Tie-side (T-back) and Strapless (Maebari, C-string) Aditya(talk • contribs) 10:08, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Content submission - revised
Subject: Att. Sarah Stierch - re. Articles for Creation / Maloti Drakensberg Route (MDR) Ref. Nikki Tilley
Hello Sarah!
I am trying to help get the following accepted into Wikipedia.
As far as I can see, you declined the article on the 2nd June with the comments that it had too much “promotional language” and you also asked for more “reliable sources”. For instance you felt that claiming the route to be “great for birding” was promotional, but I see the wording was actually “significant birding” which is surely not the same? But I cannot find further communication after 2nd June and would like to re-ignite this thing!
Anyway I have also played around with the text a little and have hopefully removed some of the possible offending bits that slipped through the net. PLEASE have a look and let me know if there is anything else I/we need to do. We would so much love to get this in before the end of the month. Here it is:

The Maloti Drakensberg Route in Southern Africa incorporates two countries, South Africa and Lesotho, within which the Eastern Free State, the Eastern Cape Highlands and the uKhahlamba Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal are included. The Maloti Drakensberg Route (MDR) is a registered not-for-profit entity. This has come about due to collaboration between the Department of Tourism, the Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation, SAN Parks, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Tourism Kwa-Zulu Natal, Free State Tourism, Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, The Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Programme and route patrons, N3 Toll Concession and AKTV. The Route encompasses a World Heritage Site, namely the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park. It contains the world’s largest outdoor heritage art gallery of over 45,000 images of San Rock Art found at over 2000 sites. The Route has the world’s second highest waterfall, Tugela Falls, which drops 947m. , and Maletsunyane Falls, a single cataract on a tributary of the Orange River in Lesotho, 75 miles (121 km.) southeast of Maseru. With a drop of 630 feet (191 metres), it is one of the world’s highest waterfalls and is important to Lesotho as a tourist attraction. Paleontologists finds include the world’s oldest clutch of dinosaur eggs at Golden Gate Highlands National Park On 11 June 2001 the governments of the Kingdom of Lesotho and south Africa signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish the Maloti Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation and Development Area, which covers about 13,000 sq. kms and includes the uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site. The area has spectacular scenery and is an important centre of endemism for montane plant species. The mountains, with their highest peak Thaba Ntlenyana rising to 3,482 metres, are home to the world’s largest and most concentrated group of rock paintings in Africa south of the Sahara. There are some 600 known sites containing between 35 – 40,000 individual images painted by the San people over a period of at least 4,000 years. The area is furthermore the most important water catchment area for the people of Lesotho and South Africa. The Maloti Drakensberg Route is the only area south of the High Atlas Mountains in north Africa offering commercial snow skiing experiences; the world’s second largest basaltic upland area; Africa’s highest nature reserve accessible by vehicle; over 3,000 species of flora of which 16% are found nowhere else in the world. It hasone of the world’s most significant birding hotspots, some of the world’s most significant and award winning engineering achievements through the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. |

- You can request that the members at Articles for Creation look at your content again by clicking on the "resubmit" link on the entry for your page. However, it still seems to need a bit of work to me. The references are low quality, and don't prove notability particularly well. The language is still quite promotional in places as well. drewmunn talk 11:57, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- I have
twothree comments on the proposed article. First, it ought to start by saying what it is about. Is it a road, or some kind of national park, or what? Second, There's suddenly a paragraph about "Maletsunyane Falls", with no evident relationship to the subject of the article. Third, that paragraph is a copyright violation of this. How can I make this list able to hide? I want to put a list of regiments in the battle of lesnaya. Imonoz (talk) 13:16, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hiding things like tables in actual articles is kind of awkward and should generally be avoided. You should just tidy up the table and display it normally. Scarce2 (talk) 13:35, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- I thought of having it in the end of the article, without messing up so much. The reason I want it hidden is because it would take up so much of the article having 'two' lists of regiments for Sweden and Russia so hiding it would be the best option. Could you recommend me putting it in the end of the article? Also, which table is the best for regiments and such (showing names, strength, commanders and notes)? Adding a photo to an infobox issues
Is there a file size to uploading a photo to the infoboxes? I have tried the formats and none of which seem to be working. I've tried:
[[File:Example.png|thumb|Caption text]] and |image=[[File:Dan Cohen Wiki.png|thumb|Caption text]]
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Alliefendrick (talk • contribs) 13:49, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- It depends which infobox you are trying to use. For many, the correct syntax is just "image = Dan Cohen Wiki.png", without any "File" prefix or square brackets. There's more about this at Help:Infobox picture. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:56, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Some infoboxes require image syntax, others don't. Please see the documentation for the infox you are using. -- Gadget850 talk 14:07, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Adding references and citations
Hello all! I am having difficulties adding references and citations. When I add the citation html to the word/s in the text I with to cite, the [nr] appears but the word disappears from the copy. Does anyone please know what I am doing wrong? I want to be able to add the citation [nr] to words in the text and then add the source to the references list at the bottom. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jules J Foreman (talk • contribs) 14:03, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Whatever article you were working on, you didn't save the edits under this account, so I can't tell what you were trying to do. In general, you want to follow the text to be supported by a citation with a <ref></ref> pair, and inside those put the text of the citation, something like this:
This is a fact which needs a citation. <ref>''Enormous Compendium of Facts'' (2011) by J. Random Author, Reliable Press, University City p. 261</ref>
- You will then need to use {{reflist}} in a Notes or References section near the bottom of the page. You could use one of the cite templates, such as {{Cite news}}, {{Cite book}}, or {{Cite web}}, to format the citairton in a standard manner, but this is not required.
- See Referencing for beginners for more detail. DES (talk) 15:00, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Archive date for Australia's Pandora archive?
I've just fixed (in this edit) a dead link by adding "archiveurl" to a {{tl:cite web}} reference, and now the ref list includes the warning that "|archiveurl= requires |archivedate= (help)". The archive website is Pandora Australia's Web Archive, and it's not obvious to me how to get the archive date, or how else to fix the warning. Is there some reason why the date is "mandatory", if not all archive services provide the information?
For what it's worth, I found the archive link by:
- Following the original (dead) link, which now takes me to http://www.archive.dbcde.gov.au/
- Follow the link from http://www.archive.dbcde.gov.au/ to PANDORA (for ...brandis)
- Search that Pandora page for the page title "35 per cent increase in funding for Australia's major performing arts companies"
Mitch Ames (talk) 14:08, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Mitch Ames: The archiveurl parameter is usually used when the archived copy was found off-site, like WebCite or the Wayback Machine (also archived there: [2]). When it's actually on the website, you it usually means the address was just moved, and you can just update the url parameter and not use archiveurl. ~HueSatLum 23:15, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Pandora is a different site to the original (Department of Broadband Communications and the Digital Economy, http://www.dbcde.gov.au, which now redirects to Department of Communications). Mitch Ames (talk) 12:58, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- I would say update the link anyway (and the publisher); my rule of thumb is if it's on a dedicated archive site, use archiveurl, otherwise just change the link. ~HueSatLum 23:01, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

JUNKUNU DANCE
Junkanoo (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Dear Wikipedia,
It was not mentioned in your page that the Jankanoo "Junkunu" Dance is also a culture dance for the Garifuna people who currently reside in the countries of; Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Dominica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize and the United States. In the Garifuna language the word Jankanoo means; "Wanaragua". They dance this dance during Christmas. New Years Day, the 6th of January and at their cultural shows.
One of the history of this dance was that there was a Slave Trader by the name of John Canoe who visited the coast of West Africa to get slaves and a sending off ceremony was held for him before the people left their country. The mask that is used for this dance is that of the White Man with his blue eyes.

Because there's no list of U.S. Representatives from New York, I decided to go to "it" and search for related pages. Sorry for being dim, but help would be appreciated with the following: I've uploaded an image file which was of something I scanned, for use in mimeograph
- 1. A query has popped up in relation to the file, requesting a url, but given that I've just scanned it and uploaded it for WP I don't see why I need to also put it elsewhere.
- 2. The image is not appearing in mimeograph, just the text of the filename.
- 3. Is there a help page showing how to control size and placement of the image in the WP article?
Gravuritas (talk) 19:05, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- The tag was added by User:Sfan00 IMG. He probably could have chosen a better tag, but the point is that the source statement ("scanned") isn't sufficient. Did you personally create the printed document (the piece of paper with black-and-white images) that's on the left side of the picture? We understand that you created the scan, but things in pictures need to be freely licensed or in the public domain. This wouldn't be a problem if you took another scan after removing the piece of paper from the plastic flap. Of course, if that little diagram is freely licensed or in the public domain, it may be included, but you'll have to prove that it's freely licensed or in the public domain.
- I don't think our software allows PDF images to appear in articles. I think you'll have to set your scanner to produce images in a different format (e.g. .png or .jpg or .tif), then rescan the image with that format and upload the new image.
- Sorry that you'll have to redo something, but I don't think you have any choice. 2001:18E8:2:1020:523:670A:D406:CB0E (talk) 19:15, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- Many thanks for making the process, the current status, and the path forward clear. I'll review the printed bit and sort it out.

Why do my edits keep getting deleted?
Hello,
Every edit or new content that I add to a page is eventually deleted? I include references and the information is still removed. Why is that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MorrisonKPR (talk • contribs) 19:31, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @MorrisonKPR: In this edit, you removed encyclopedic, sourced information and replaced it with promotional material. Wikipedia is not for promotional material. You also may not use Wikipedia for "public relations" purposes - which is something your username may imply. ~Charmlet -talk- 19:53, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

How do I go about talking to someone about a friends ex co-worker listed on your page about Political Violence in Washington, D.C. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_incidents_of_political_violence_in_Washington,_D.C. - I'll leave this for someone else to act on or not act on, but in my opinion and understanding of it, this may or may not be appropriate. On one hand she attempted to drive through a WH barrier and then raced towards the capitol, striking police cars along the way, but on the other hand nobody knows why she did it. ~Charmlet -talk- 21:01, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @RMJChurch: Hi, I've taken a look at the article and I think you've raised a good point. Based on the article's edit history, it looks like Jax 0677 merged the information from Miriam Carey's article into the "List of incidents..." article, probably as a result of an article about Miriam Carey being deleted. I agree that the write-up neglects to mention anything about her actions being "political", rather that she was suffering from mental illness. Since there are no sources presented to affirm a political motivation, I have deleted the entire write-up. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:52, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

guarding an article against malicious editing
Once an article is built or edited is there a way to guard it against malicious editing or changes being made to it by someone who has a particular agenda for the edits? Jmasiulewicz (talk)
- If there is heavy and persistent vandalism or disruptive editing, the article can be semi-protected. Please see Wikipedia:Rough guide to semi-protection for what points administrators should usually consider before applying semi-protection. If the user in question has an autoconfirmed account, other measures will have to be taken into consideration. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 22:30, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Jmasiulewicz: Hi, I haven't looked at any of the pages you've edited, but I think it's important to remember that one person's "agenda" is another person's "earnest edit". There will always be differences of opinion in collaborations, and page protection should only be requested in unambiguous cases of vandalism, persistent disruption, or edit-warring between other editors. Simply having a difference of opinion, or encountering an editor whose personality clashes with our own, won't cut it. There are other venues for content disputes: Article talk page first, then Request for comment, and in more extreme cases of belligerent editing, WP:AN/I. flickr2commons
I know, I know, this is not exactly a Wikipedia question, but it's a WMF question and I have not been able to work out where to ask it and get any sort of answer. In particular, I've failed to get any answer over the course of days at Commons:Commons:Help_desk#flickr2commons.
The last few days http://tools.wmflabs.org/flickr2commons/ seems to be failing consistently, at least for me. I have no idea where to ask about it, or to find out whether anyone else is having similar problems. We need advice regarding WP:PLACE
Hello! We need some extra opinions about the way of application of WP:PLACE guideline. More exactly, I tried to apply the general guideline no.2 for at least 3 alternative names, but some editors (all of them being Hungarians who support the keeping in the first phrase of the alternative Hungarian name) are claiming that this is not "a widely accepted approach". I would be grateful if you could submit a comment at Talk:Alba Iulia to help us to settle the dispute. Thanks in advance! 79.117.183.29 (talk) 06:19, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Forgot my password
I have changed my password, as forced to by this incident. It was a minor change to the previous password. Alas, I use "remember me" option to keep my session up as long as possible, and while not forced to re-enter the new password every visit I forgot it.
I have tried www.nirsoft.net's tools to extract passwords from my browser, but that failed. On the WinXP+IE8 they discovered Wikipedia pages' URLs and displayed my user name but no password (that machine is not logged-in to Wikipedia, anyway). On the current Win7Ultim+IE10 (with active session) they show nothing, not even a single page URL.
Now I still have an active session, but when I'm forced to log-off or the max 30-days period expires I'll loose access to my Wikipedia account. What can I do? I have not defined e-mail address, so can't reset my password by ordinary means. --CiaPan (talk) 13:43, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Could you add an email address now, while you are still logged in? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:47, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- No, the dialog that prompts for an email address insists you give the current password as well. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:50, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- No, I can't, exactly as John said above – you need to give the current password. That prevents other people from redirecting your 'reset password' option to themselves and stealing your account while you leave your computer logged-in. --CiaPan (talk) 14:01, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- HURRAAY!!! I managed to recall my password, got my account back!
:-)))
CiaPan (talk) 20:10, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
PS. It actually was a minor modification of an old password, however not my previous Wikipedia password but a password to an old email box on no-longer existing server :-)
- Excellent! Now, have you remembered to add an email address to your account? -- John of Reading (talk) 20:30, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- Of course, I did it before writing here, even before writing on my home pl-wiki. Actually I was trying to define my e-mail address in Wikipedia when I realized I forgot my password, so when I recalled it I've just completed what I started three days before.
Thank you for reminding. --CiaPan (talk) 07:30, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

biblical images
During the summer I downloaded 40+ pictures to put in the book I am self publishing. Then I was asked for my source, and told them it was Free Wikipedia. Then I thought that I might need to be more specific so I tried to find those pictures. I can't find them. Can you tell me how to find them. - It is possible that some/all of those images has since been removed from the articles you found them in. - I share the frustration with captcha on multiple sites. Pinknews.co.uk is the only one i've seen to eliminate this by posting a simple sum instead (9+1= and such). Why doesn't Wikipedia have something like this? At least it's readable and doable first try. Most captchas aren't and consist of nonsensical upper and lower case letters and symbols. Thanks ツ Jenova20 (email) 14:29, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

- Granted Wikipedia is a more likely target for bots, but what about using the sum as an image angled so that a bot can't easily read it? Pink News used to use a sum in an image, but has now gone back to using simple sums in their new layout. Evidence here. Either way, it's easier to work out than the captchas for humans. - OCR is fairly advanced, the complexity of the captcha's are a result of the advancement in OCR. Most actions do not trigger a captcha for anons except for adding URLs. Werieth (talk) 15:23, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- I have noticed an oddity about WP's captcha. If I once get it wrong, and it offers me another one, I apparently get them wrong again time after time after time. But If I remain patient and read the screen carefully, I notice that I have already got the last one right, but it has kept fairly quiet about it, and offered me yet another one because it thinks I just enjoy doing them. Maproom (talk) 17:30, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
- If you say that you "can't be bothered" to register a user name, you need to be aware that there are a few limitations on IP editing. You make your trade-off. That is just the way it is. If I were making the policies, you would be required to register. I am not sympathetic, and neither are many of the regulars here, to complaints from unregistered editors about the limitations of unregistered editing. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:30, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Non-autoconfirmed users also get captchas in the same situations as unregistered editors. Just sayin'. (P.s. screen reader users like myself can use services like Webvisum (or the audio captchas, if they're feeling particularly masochistic). Graham87 06:29, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Robert McClenon, all I heard u say was: "I hate my life and I have no prospects so I need to mouth off online in the cowardly safety of my own home to compensate for my deep seated insecurities", so too bad for you I guess but really not my problem.
- I think Maproom is right. The captcha comes up again even if u entered the text correctly, and even though you are enabled to save the page, it appears that you got it wrong and have to re-enter the captcha. This could be easily addressed by having a message appear which says "captcha successful, now click save page." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.128.248 (talk) 09:06, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Updating articles/removing warnings
Hello,
We would like to update the information on our company Wikipedia page. The page shows that it is "editable" however will it be possible given our company IP address? Where can I find the guidelines for updates? Additionally there are 2 "warnings" at the top of the page "the neutrality of the article" and "need citation for verification," what is the best way to have those removed? Thanks!

Re Edits to Comparison of Project Managment Software
I have attempted to add a new line with the software product I*PMIS to this page twice, both yesterday and today. Yesterdays attempt was my first time with Wiki and I may have not done everything correctly so I understand why it did not show up. However, early this morning, 7:00 cst, I again added the software line I*PMIS with references and it showed up fine on wiki after I did the save. Now I did a quick check and find out that my editing change has been deleted. Can anyone let me know how I am not doing this correctly. The edits do show up on the history page just fine. Was there some kind of editing backout that occured because I did not do something correctly? Thanks for your help, from IStarPMIS, LLC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomas M. help
Hi. I recently edited a page, and started to leave my email, but was warned not to...so I didn't. I gather there is a way to accept emails that is more appropriate, but I have no idea how. I tried the on line chat but was greeted with lines of ??code?? that were unfamiliar, and when I started to type, nothing showed up. Obviously I am a complete novice, and since I will probably not be doing any more editing of pages (except perhaps the one I just edited), I would prefer a simple solution. Thank you. -Joel

- Note also that Wikipedia articles should pretty much never be written in the first person.. If you need to say "I did this" or "I saw that" then the content is probably not appropriate for a Wikipedia article. DES (talk) 14:00, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Is the correct parameter |displayauthors= or is it |display-authors= ? The Cite template documentation doesn't agree with the CS1 errors documentation on that issue.
Help:CS1_errors and Template:Cite_book don't seem to agree about whether the new citation template parameter is called |displayauthors= or |display-authors= and that confused me while I was trying to update some bibliographies today. The results I got were not what was documented on the help page for the CS1 error message. -- WeijiBaikeBianji (talk, how I edit) 00:24, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Correcting Korean Director Kim Jee-woon's name
Hello,
I am an autoconfirmed user who is also working for the management company representing Director Kim Jee-woon.
I have been trying to correct his name (for his article title) and an error pops up saying: You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reason: The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. Please choose another name, or use Requested moves to ask an administrator to help you with the move. Do not manually move the article by copying and pasting it; the page history must be moved along with the article text.
There apparently already is a wikipedia page with his correct name (Kim Jee-woon), however it redirects to the incorrectly spelled name (Kim Ji-Woon).
(I tried going through the [moves] but couldn't figure out how to correct such an error.
I would much appreciate it if someone could get back to me with this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asong5 (talk • contribs) 00:37, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- There are many sources that use Kim Ji-woon, but the most common name used in English language reliable sources seems to be Kim Jee-woon. The article is and has been called Kim Ji-woon since 2005. At that time, IMDB listed him as Kim Ji-woon,[6] but that appears to have changed.[7] There was a failed effort to move the page in 2009.[8] The article largely uses Jee-woon instead of Ji-woon. I deleted the Kim Jee-woon redirect page to make way for a move. There also is Kim Jee-Woon and IMDB lists it as Jee-Woon. A quick scan of the sources show Jee-woon (lowercase w) the most common usage and the article now uses Ji-woon (lowercase w). So if someone want's to second the move to Kim Jee-woon, I think we are good to go. -- Jreferee (talk) 02:38, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Jreferee: I'm not sure I'm the one who should second it, as my involvement in this is due to this and a request through IRC help, but I second it. I also kinda moved it before seeing this. Oops. Feel free to trout me for not having Future Sight. ~Charmlet -talk- 02:43, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- No worries on the move. I probably over analyzed it. Your moved actually seconded. What links here may need some cleanup.[9] There also is Category:Films directed by Kim Ji-woon. -- Jreferee (talk) 02:52, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
How to change the article title?
I don't see a "move" option next to "edit". How can I change the title of an article? I would like to change it to be consistent with the Google+ page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ellencici (talk • contribs) 00:48, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia names pages based on the most common name used in English language reliable sources. Thus, the Google+ page is not a consideration in determining article title. If you wish to try to argue the common name, please use the talkpage of the article. ~Charmlet -talk- 00:53, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Ellencici: I agree with ~Charmlet. Please don't unilaterally move pages unless you've read and digested Wikipedia:Article titles, the move would be consistent with that policy, and would be uncontroversial. That being said, the reason you could not move the page and see no option to do so, is because your account is not yet autoconfirmed having less than ten edits. The process for discussing a controversial page move is described at Wikipedia:Requested moves.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:36, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Fuhghettaboutit: I don't get a ping? See how far out of my way I go to give you a huge ping so you see it? On the subject at hand, it'd probably be easier to just ask on the talkpage and see who, if anyone, shows up, at least for a new user :) ~Charmlet -talk- 03:40, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Unless there's some reason by context, such as that it's an older discussion, I see no reason to ping regulars on a recent thread like this one (and they don't need to ping me), as I assume they will be monitoring, just as I am and will be (and you actually were [and I just bet you will see this response without any ping, which proves the point]). I also don't see much need to ping other answerers at all, unless I am addressing the answerer directly. Regarding the page move, it really depends on what talk page we're talking about (and we don't know which one here, though it might be talk:Eucalyptus (software)). Vast numbers of talk pages are watched by almost no one and posting to it is like throwing a bottle into the ocean and hoping. Everyone should be informed of the process, in any event.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:53, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Point taken on the pings. And on the talkpage. But I'm not sure having everyone informed for all moves is smart. ;) ~Charmlet -talk- 03:56, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- I didn't mean all moves should be done by informing everyone through a requested move, though I can see how my response might have parsed that way. I meant I think it's a good idea to inform everyone of the requested moves process as a vehicle for seeking the move, when they are asking about making a move that looks like it might be questionable.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:03, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

To answer your first point, the reason you do not see a "move" option, is that your account is not Autoconfirmed. To reduce vandalism(!), editors cannot move pages, or edit protected pages, until their account is at least 4 days old, and has made at least 10 edits. - Arjayay (talk) 08:15, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
United States Senate election in California, 2012
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
This article has been massively tampered with reflecting false election results according to the California Secretary of State official election results to show Elizabeth Emken obtaining nearly 48% of the vote when she only obtained 37.5% in actuality. The polling information on this page has also been severely tampered with. Please temporarily take this page down while the data can be fixed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.7.244.57 (talk) 01:28, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
UPDATE: I was able to revert the changes that were made to the page to the original information. Please restrict access to this page to prevent further tampering. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.7.244.57 (talk) 01:32, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Vandalism was reverted. I have requested semi-protection for the page. I suggest that User:68.7.244.57 register an account, because the semi-protection will apply both to constructive IP editors and to IP vandals. Also, "taking a page down" due to vandalism is not what Wikipedia does, because anyone can edit to correct vandalism (except when the page is semi-protected, when any registered editor can correct vandalism.) Speedy Deletion Flag
I am Rebecca Housel, Ph. D. A previous student created my page five years ago. At a recent Comic Con event where I was a moderator and speaker, a photographer who claimed to be a Wikipedia editor, known as "Nightscream" and the owner of several photos taken at the New York Experience Comic Con in June 2013, has made it his personal mission to vandalize my page after I removed a photo he replaced my original photo with. My original photo was approved by me for public use; his was not. As the page represents me, I have a right to remove photos that I find unbecoming or inappropriate, replacing them with photos that are more appropriate and/or convey a professional tone. Mr. Novi felt my picture choice was "grainy" but this is Wikipedia, and the picture was a fair representation. It was actually quite a good picture and is available on Wikimedia Commons. This same Nightscream has tagged areas of common knowledge, citing that verification is needed, when in fact, it had been previously provided and removed. I have yet to look through the history, but it seems that this particular editor is using his personal feelings as the real reason for his tagging my page for speedy deletion, citing a number of Wikipedia rules, of course, but it's very clear that his need to tag my page came AFTER I removed his photo. I had asked him, personally, not to change my Wikipedia photo. He did so anyway.
Also, I am an author. I am an editor. I am a professor. I am a national speaker. I am a Wizard World Moderator. My clients include award-winning actors like Henry Winkler, Michael Madsen, James Hong, Sean Astin, Denis O'Hare, etc. Nightscream is using Wikipedia for his own agenda, attempting to cause problems simply because I asked him to not use a photo I did not approve, and to please not change my photo.
As the person the page is about, I have a right to take down photos I feel are inappropriate, replacing them with photos that are. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmpressMatilda (talk • contribs) 05:24, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, that is not how Wikipedia works. As the person the page is about, you have less right than any other editor to alter its content: see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. And if Mr. Novi owns the copyright of the photograph and has donated it to Wikipedia, he does not need your approval to place it in the article. If you have issues about the content of the page Rebecca Housel, you should discuss them at Talk:Rebecca Housel. Maproom (talk) 07:07, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- The speedy deletion warning at User talk:EmpressMatilda was given towards the end of October 2009, not by Nightscream, and was removed 13 minutes later. The OP is somewhat confused. - David Biddulph (talk) 09:53, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Professor Housel. I'm sorry Wikipedia's biography on you is causing you stress. I see what you mean about the prior photo previously posted and the updated photo you added. I opened a thread at COIN and would be happy to help you there. I also opened a thread at Graphics Lab. -- Jreferee (talk) 12:15, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Create Wiki page for internal company only
Hi, Is it at all possible to set up a Wiki page with restricted access?
My idea is to use a wiki page to post information regarding an App we created for use within the company only. We would allow users of the app to discuss new and creative idea's on how they use the App and well as share tips and tricks to get the best out of it.

- Yes, certainly so, but of course that would be nothing to do with Wikipedia. You can read about Wiki software, and there are numerous further links from there. - David Biddulph (talk) 11:27, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- The software that Wikipedia runs on is available (for free of course) at http://www.mediawiki.org - get your IT department to take a look at installing it on your intranet. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:37, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Beauty Ngxongo's wikipedia page
HI
I would like help creating a Beauty Ngxongo wikipedia article, there a several blogs and websites that have mentioned her name when you google. Her work is famous across all nations but wikipedia hasn't recognised her. I just need guidance on how to create the article because my last 3 attempts failed.
Thanks you197.78.139.119 (talk) 13:00, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- I suggest that you use articles for creation and first read My First Article. The essential question is whether this person is Notable, a term which Wikipedia uses in a special way. We consider a person (or a thing) notable when published works from reliable sources have in fact taken note of the person, have written about the person in some detail. Blogs almost never count as reliable sources, and many websites do not count either, depending on who publishes them and how. It is also important for a new article, particularly one about a living person, to cite sources to verify the content. See our policy about biography articles for more details. DES (talk) 13:43, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) To create an article about Beauty Ngxongo, you will need to establish that she is notable, in Wikipedia's sense. I am guessing that this is where your previous attempts failed. Someone will need to find mentions of her in reputable independent sources. These need not be in English, though here at English Wikipedia it is better if they are. Note that blogs do not count as reputable sources. However sources like this should be acceptable. Maproom (talk) 13:46, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Headline on NCFE page has been changed to Northern Council for Further Education - INCORRECT
The article NCFE's title has been changed to Northern Council for Further Education - this is incorrect as it is an out-of-date title - the company was once called Northern Council for Further Education until it became national, and its' name dropped any acronym completely (you can check this here: http://www.ncfe.org.uk/about-ncfe/history-of-ncfe. I have tried to change this back but the only part of the article I can't change is the title. This needs to be changed as it is misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NatashaBou (talk • contribs) 13:04, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- This move was made by User:DragonflySixtyseven less than a month ago. I suggest that you discuss the reasons with that user on User talk:DragonflySixtyseven, or perhaps better start a discussion at Talk:Northern Council for Further Education or requested moves, and let DragonflySixtyseven know about the discussion. Since the previous move left a redirect behind, an admin will need to delete that redirect if the move is to be reversed. An admin will most probably want to see some indication of consensus about this. Note that the official name of an organization is not the sole factor in determining the title of an article about it, see WP:COMMONNAME a section of our page about article titles. DES (talk) 13:51, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) As the previous page at NCFE was a simple redirect to Northern Council for Further Education, a move from the latter to the former didn't need admin assistance, so I've done it, & changed the lede to reflect the current title. - David Biddulph (talk) 13:55, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Mladina classification of nasal septal deformities
Extended content
|
---|
Mladina classification of nasal septal deformities Nasal septal deformities in adults are very frequent. Some of them can be seen in more than 90% of the population. Ranko Mladina (born in Split, Croatia in 1949), an otorhinolaryngologist from Zagreb, Croatia, have published the article describing for the very first time all types of nasal septal deformities that can be usually found in man (Mladina R. The role of maxillar morphology in the development of pathological septal deformities. Rhinology 1987; 25: 199-205). Owing to this, a lot of papers have been published by various authors all over the world later on, all of them based on this classification. The classification describes seven types of septal deformities: Type 1: Vertical anterior deflection of the septum, staying in a close contact to limen nasi, i.e. a part of the anterior nasal valve. Type 2: Vertical anterior deflection of the septum, staying in much closer contact to limen nasi,i.e. a part of the anterior nasal valve. Type 3: Vertical, more posterior positioned deflection of the septum staying in a neighborhood of the head of the middle turbinate. Type 4: “S” or “Z” shaped septum, i.e. type 2 on one side and type 3 on the other side. Type 5: It goes for unilateral, horizontal, slightly ascending spur. Other septal side is almost flat in most of the cases. Type 6: A deep, anterior, characteristic groove between the septum and the wing of the inter-maxillary bone on one side, and an anterior, basal crest at the corresponding level of the septum. Type 7: This type is a combination of previous six types. It usually goes for combination between some of vertical deformities (types 1-4) and horizontal ones (types 5 and /or 6). Types 5 and 6 have been recognized as inherited deformities. Type 6 deserves particular attention since it has been showed to be very closely connected to the cleft lip/palate. Many people who have biffid uvula are carriers of the type 6 septal deformity. In addition, in some of them one can easily palpate the submucosal cleft of the hard palate! References: 1. Mladina R.
