"Gameplay Nausea"

A trait that is unique due to the realness of the HL2 engine is that many people have reported nausea/vertigo when initially playing this game. The movements, screen resolution and physics all have been incited as a cause to many people getting 'sea sick' while playing this game.

Able/Unable

I'm not grammar expert, but I'm kinda leaning to agree with the two editors who have been changing this. When I read this sentence, I see what they are trying to 'fix' .... The current sentence is "to manipulate larger and heavier objects than he is unable to alone."

This doesn't read clear to me... It's backwards. It allows him to do something "more" than he is "able" to alone. If the sentence read as "objects that he is unable to alone." .... It would make sense with "unable"

The use of "than" here makes "able" seem appropriate to me. While replacing "than" with "that" would make "unable" appropriate. I'm not hugely vested in it, but I think it needs reevaluated. -- ferret (talk) 00:49, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence is worded confusingly either way, and we can probably write it better so this confuse is not there. --MASEM (t) 00:52, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Do note that in Half Life everything can be picked up with your hands and a Gravity Gun only allows you to throw objects at high velocities and very far. So the end of that sentence really isn't needed. Or you could just end it as "as well as to manipulate larger and heavier objects than he is able to."Cky2250 (talk) 02:25, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: The entire sentence should be rewritten it is a run-on sentence it could use either a ";" more then one sentence or deletion of parts to make it one sentence. Cky2250 (talk) 02:42, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Something like this flows more the transition creates too long of a pause for a , and could be a sentence of its own. "Part-way through the game; Gordon acquires the Gravity Gun, which allows him to draw distant objects towards himself or forcefully push them away. These abilities are required to solve puzzles later in the game, and can also be used to great effect in combat. Any movable object within a proximity of the player has the potential to be used as a makeshift defense (e.g. a file cabinet) or a deadly projectile (e.g. a gasoline can or a buzzsaw blade)." Article Images

Weren't most images removed from this article over there years? I thought there used to be 4+ demonstrating graphics and gameplay. Is wikipedia just eliminating as many images as possible to save space on their servers? Images on the Wiki are increasingly hard to come by, and are usually so tiny as to defeat the purpose of having them at all. I sure don't think an image under 640 pixels wide is going to really demonstrate "the source engine's lighting and shadow effects". Wouldn't 640px be small enough for fair use? Considering that a screenshot itself is such a tiny fraction of the final product. And most people play games at 720p+. The images in this article are so small as to make any details. Would someone be able to enlighten me on the whole fair use nazism going on around here? RUS Starbuck (talk) 04:23, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

EDIT: Yep, looked up a revision from 2007 and there were 9+ images. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RUS Starbuck (talkcontribs) 04:26, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WP's goal is to be a free content encyclopedia and as such, when we have to use non-free images (as would be HL2 screenshots) they would have to be minimial in both number and size. 640px is too large for fair use for a video game shot as most people will only see it about about 220px. --MASEM (t) 04:35, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Story rewrite after leak.

Is it worth discussing the story rewrite after the leak of the original HL2 storyline?

Some of the original maps, such as the wooden docks, were shown in the 2003 tech demo in E3, but were never used because of the rewrite after the leak. (although a recreation of this part of the story was later used in Half Life codename: gordon, and in Half-Life: Lost coast.)
