I don't think one should add the stub template to articles that mainly collect links to other articles, especially if they will probably be filled over time, such as the year in sometopic articles. Burschik 07:57, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
- I agree - in fact I didn't add the stub template, I merely changed it to a more specific one to move it out of the top level Category:Stubs in which it had previously been placed. --David Edgar 08:22, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

United Kingdom Planning Law
Hi, I've recently been expanding Town and country planning in the United Kingdom quite a bit and have started a subcategory called [Category:United Kingdom Planning Law]. I've really written up a bit of a skeleton for this area of planning. The planning acts, the new planning structure, PPS's, all those bloody new abbreviations LDF,LDD,RSS etc.etc. So far the majority of it are stubs and I was wondering if you might be interested in lending a hand in some way. Most of the articles so far are pretty dry statements of fact(I think) and could do with some context, structure/re-structure, debate, proof reading etc.etc. I'm a complete novice at Wikipedia and sure there's a heap of no-no's I've committed (Posting direct to talk pages?!?). Please let me know if your interested or not. Many thanks Russ --Mcginnly 09:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'll certainly take a look - I don't know much about the subject, but I can certainly do some proof reading etc. --David Edgar 11:15, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I notice you are tagging people into this category. I suggest that you slow down and think about this first, because the title is suspect. There are three or four institutions that may take the (informal) title Manchester University, and it is not clear which one(s) you mean. Can you make it clear on the category page, or stop and consider making multiple categories for the different possible usages? Noisy | Talk 11:31, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

GR 11 (France)
Hi David- Is it incorrect procedure for me to link to the fr: article the way I did? Also:
- though I can see the link to the fr: article in the page code, it doesn't show up in the article;
- I don't see how the page to which the Category link points is helpful.
I'm new at all this, so please let me know what's up. -Eric (talk) 18:32, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- fr link: Look on the left-hand side of the page. You'll see a box titled "In other languages" - in there, there's now a link called "Français" which links to the relevant page. This is the standard way to link a page to its counterparts in other languages. (Have a look at a page like Brussels and you'll see the same thing done for virtually every different major language wikipedia.)
- category: You mean the category Category:Hiking trails in Europe? I think this is the best category to include the page GR 11 (France) in. I don't think there's a more specific one that's better at the moment. Do you disagree? It's helpful because it allows people to easily locate articles on related hiking trails. --David Edgar 09:49, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- fr link: I see now! Hadn't noticed that before--wasn't looking in the sidebar. So, simply typing fr:GR 11 (France) adds the "in other languages" box to the sidebar and populates it with "Français"? I thought only templates did tricks like that; I'll have to learn that stuff.
- category: Oops, of course the hiking trails link is helpful; I didn't have my brain on and only followed the link on the word "Category."
- Thanks for the clue-ins! btw, did you notice that the French Wikipedia layout has all of a sudden changed drastically, and not for the better? -Eric (talk) 13:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Er, no, I didn't notice any drastic change. On the other hand I haven't been looking at it too frequently...
- You could check on fr:Wikipédia:Le Bistro or fr:Wikipédia:Bistro des non-francophones/en and see if there's any discussion?
- (Oh, and yes, it's clever, the wikimedia software!... it handles all those things with the languages. Check out Wikipedia:Interlanguage links for more details). --David Edgar 15:11, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- Good idea, looking on the Bistro--found a mention right away that they've implemented a new version of Wikimedia on fr that looks all wrong in Firefox--which I use--but looks normal in IE. Thanks for your help! -Eric (talk) 16:31, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I came acroos the List of castles in France page you created with interest. However, I'm disappointed to see that most of the places listed are not actually castles. As I'm sure you know, the French word château can be translated as "castle", but much more often "palace" or "stately home" would be better. Compare, in the UK, Kenilworth Castle and Blenheim Palace: to the French they are both châteaux, but to call both castles in English would be silly. The French also refer to just about every vineyard as a château whether on the site of a castle, a palace, a stately home or a 20C farm, which only adds to the confusion
On your page, I have identified the following which should not be described as castles:
- Azay-le-Rideau
- Beauregard
- Blois
- Boisclaireau
- Bourdaisière
- Chambord
- Chaumont
- Chavaniac
- Chenconeau
- Cheverny
- Fontainebleau
- Mont Saint Michel (a fortified town)
- de la Muette (20C)
- Oiron
- Pécany
- Plessis-Bourré
- Rambouillet
- Saint-Aubin (vineyard)
- Valençay
- Vaux-le-Vicomte
- Versailles
- Villandry
The following are partly castle, partly stately home:
- Brissac
- Canaples
- Loches
- Ussé
And, off the top of my head, here are some genuine castles that are not listed (some with Wikipedia pages of their own or shown in the relevant town page):
- Beaugency
- Biron
- Beynac
- Boulogne (though Castle not mentioned in Wikipedia)
- Castelnau
- Florac
- Foix
- Fougères
- Gannat
- Gruissan
- Josselin
- Montsegur
- Peyrepertuse
- Queribus
- Robert-le-Diable, nr Rouen
- (Fort de) Salses
- Vincennes
- Vitré, Ille-et-Vilaine
Can I make some suggestions? 1. Rename the page to reflect its content. 2. Turn the page into two lists, separating palaces from proper castles. 3. Restrict the page to genuine castles, adding in any others that can be found (and there's loads).
I would be happy to help with this if you want.
Emeraude 15:50, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- When I "created" this page, actually all I did was to move the content out of the page List of castles which was getting much too long. (I created many other similar country-specific pages in the same way.) I didn't have a lot to do with which entries had previously been added to the list.
- I certainly agree with you, there's a big distinction between castles and palaces; there isn't really yet a standard way to handle them in the context of these lists. For example, for Denmark there's a page List of castles and palaces in Denmark which includes both, but for England there's a list of Castles in England and a separate List of historic houses in England.
- Places like Chenonceau and Versailles definitely merit inclusion in a list somewhere... so I would tend to suggest creating a new page for them, rather than simply removing them - List of palaces in France, perhaps? (It would be the list counterpart to the Category:Palaces in France. You might also check the existing French list within List of palaces.) Or maybe call them manor houses or stately homes if that makes it more inclusive?
- As you indicate, there are a lot of the stately home / palace variety of châteaux... so probably separating the lists would make for better clarity than renaming the existing list to include both.
- And of course, you're more than welcome to help! You obviously know more about the subject than I do! --David Edgar 16:45, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Soon to be ex Local History Glossary
Can you link from Wiki articles to Wikibooks?
If a glossary is specific to an article, then what is wrong with the glossary that was attached to the Dalgarven Mill article?
Rosser 21:15, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, you can certainly link to wikibooks. Just type the following:
- wikibooks:Scottish Rural Life, History Dictionary
- to get a link that looks like:
- wikibooks:Scottish Rural Life, History Dictionary
- Of course you can also pipe it in the usual way - type:
- the glossary
- to get a link that looks like:
- the glossary
- As for the glossary on the Dalgarven Mill page, it seemed inappropriate. For example, there's no need to explain what a cart or a maiden is - the words 'cart' and 'maiden' can be considered quite basic, and weren't even used in the text of the page. There's no problem explaining on a particular page a small number of terms relevant to the subject, but I don't feel it's helpful to add huge lists of terms. And for terms which already have pages on wikipedia / wiktionary / wikibooks, the best way to explain them is just to link to the appropriate page. --David Edgar 12:31, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Incidently - even secondary school kids do not know the definition of either a cart or a maiden. I asked!
Rosser 10:40, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm sure you're right, and many of them don't. Nevertheless, if we had to explain what these and other words meant on each page they were used on, we would have to start attaching dictionaries to thousands of articles throughout wikipedia. --David Edgar 16:42, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Admiral's Cup
Hi. I may be wrong, but it seems you wrote the article on the Admiral's Cup. The text of the page seems to be a verbatim copy of copyright text on http://www.solarnavigator.net/events/the_admirals_cup.htm . Could you write the page with non-copyright text, or is there permission to use the text? (Or did that website rip of WP content?) Wotapalaver (talk) 08:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- I believe that that page is using the wikipedia content without mentioning the source or licensing conditions.
- When I first created the page, I didn't include the winner's table, and I used several phrases which have since been changed ('the United Kingdom' -> 'England', 'two nations', 'countries' -> 'teams') (see http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Admiral%27s_Cup&diff=201457697&oldid=19091235).
- Since the Solar Navigator site content reflects the current content, I'd suggest that it was most likely that it was taken from the WP page. I'm fairly sure I wrote the text myself from a number of different sources (unfortunately I didn't note which, though).
- Thanks for pointing it out. I wonder if other pages on that site also use wikipedia content. (For example, http://www.solarnavigator.net/geography/london_england.htm includes a tell-tale line: "Main article: History of London" without any link.) --David Edgar (talk) 11:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Metronomy
I'm just wondering about some the edits you've made to this page. I think that the bold text you removed should be replaced as it makes that part of the article difficult to read. Also you have added a part about weasel words, would you like to find a source that refers to the Metronomy live show and light and dance routines? Thanks 81.149.77.53 (talk) 14:43, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Some of the phrases definitely should not be in bold. For example album titles should always be in italics. (See WP:ALBUM.)
- For other uses of bold, it's generally best to follow the Manual of Style. WP:MOSBOLD#Boldface says:
- ... Use boldface in the remainder of the article only for a few special uses:
- Table headers
- Definition lists (example: Proof)
- Volume numbers of journal articles, in some bibliographic formats
- ...
- ... Use boldface in the remainder of the article only for a few special uses:
- Take a look at some well-developed articles (eg. The Beatles), and you'll see this reflected. I think following this principle makes it nicer to read, and more like an encyclopedia than like some advertising blurb.
- As far as the 'by whom' tag goes, that phrase seems a lot like some opinion from an unkown source. If it's 'charming' then I'd expect a reference from (for example) a professional reviewer stating that this was what they thought of it.
- Alternatively, a phrase like, perhaps, "Metronomy live shows prominently feature dance routines and light shows." would be better. --David Edgar (talk) 15:35, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Youth Hostel Association of New Zealand
A tag has been placed on Youth Hostel Association of New Zealand requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. If Brussels Airport is convenient to your location, would you mind photographing the Brussels Airlines head office (b.house, Airport Building 26)? The Brussels Airline article needs a pic of its corporate headquarters. Thank you WhisperToMe (talk) 18:44, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, the airport's quite close. I'm not quite sure of the exact location of the building at the moment, but I'll try and search it out. --David Edgar (talk) 17:54, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- I uploaded File:8990brusselsAirlinesHQ.jpg and File:8992brusselsAirlinesHQentrance.jpg, and added one to the Brussels Airlines page. --David Edgar (talk) 11:31, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the photograph :) WhisperToMe (talk) 08:32, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
- Also I found that you are right - b.house is in Diegem, and I found the map from the Machelen municipality website that proves it. WhisperToMe (talk) 09:55, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Castles in Belgium
It was agreed some time ago in relation to French castles - User:Emeraude can doubtless point you to the reference - that because the word château is wider in meaning than the English word "castle", it was decided to leave châteaux in their French-language form. There was no discussion at the time about Belgium, but it seems entirely logical that châteaux in Wallonia should also keep their French-language form. This was my thinking behind what I had started to do, if time had allowed, with List of castles in Belgium. (As it stands it is very flawed but nevertheless better than what was there before). HeartofaDog (talk) 13:27, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've no problem with châteaux being used instead of 'castle' where it's more appropriate. My issue with List of castles in Belgium is that it has a huge number of red links, even though many of the pages actually exist (and are listed in Category:Castles in Belgium) under different titles. That's what I've been changing; I've generally only changed the names in the list to follow the names currently used for the articles. --David Edgar (talk) 13:39, 19 November 2010 (UTC)
Copyright
Hi, I'm new and I am learning the ropes, you recently sent me a warning about the edit on the article Siula Grande because I posted a reference containing a documentary that is posted on Youtube. So I can't post references about what I write even though it is obvious the documentary is 100% factual and that I took my information from it? Even if it is on Youtube for everyone to see? Thanks for answering me, I don't even know where the answer will appear :) Mattaidepikiw (talk) 14:55, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! You can't link to something like that which has just been posted on youtube, for copyright reasons. But that doesn't mean you can't reference a documentary - you can add a reference, naming the film (possibly adding a date, title of a DVD edition, quotation etc. if these make it clearer) to identify the source of a particular fact. (You can even use the cite video tag if you like, by writing something like this: )
- However, you should also be careful with the reliability of sources; probably in this case it's reasonable to assume that the documentary attempts to be reasonably accurate, although of course it's largely based on the first person account in Joe Simpson's book. Ideally objective secondary sources are always best.
- You might read Wikipedia:Video links and WP:YOUTUBE for some more information. --David Edgar (talk) 15:39, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, I'll dig on this info. Happy New Year! Mattaidepikiw (talk) 16:06, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- Happy New Year! Feel free to ask if you have other questions, I've been around for a while so maybe I can help, or at least give some pointers of where to look... --David Edgar (talk) 16:12, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
I sure will David, when I am not sure about a particular "rule" of WP and can't find it by myself, I'll ask. Thanks for your help, as you can see, I am not a l337 programmer lol. For now I am gonna concentrate on easy edits, until I'm good enough to write a whole article (I'd especially like to write one about Mal Duff (mountaineer)). I guess when a name is lightened red it means an article would be appreciated? (Mal Duff was) Speaking of such, could you point me out to a place where I can have an overview of WP "hierarchy"? Are you a mod? I am also gonna make some contribution in French, which is my maternal language. Later friend.Mattaidepikiw (talk) 14:25, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi David, I hope you're doing good, I am starting to get the hang of editing and that is pretty cool! In addition to my above question, I need an info. I recently reverted some vandalism on the pretzel article, how do I report those damn vandals? The guy was 92.25.44.154. Mattaidepikiw (talk) 00:53, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
- Hi - I'm sorry, I didn't reply to your earlier questions earlier.
- Regarding vandalism - in this case, it seems this anonymous user only made this one edit. So it might not be worth reporting it. What you might want to do is put a warning on the user's talk page (User talk:92.25.44.154 in this case) - for example Template:Uw-vandalism1. (You can find a full list of these template messages for user talk pages at WP:WARN.) If a particular user makes (or has already) more vandalism edits, you can add further more serious warnings to their talk page, and/or report the user at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, which will notify an administrator to take action.
- Red links - a name or other text in red simply means the article doesn't exist. Sometimes this does indeed mean an article would be useful; other times, the linked subject isn't really notable enough for an article of their own, in which case it can be appropriate to simply unlink the name. For people, they should satisfy the criteria listed at Wikipedia:Notability (people).
- In the particular case of Mal Duff, I think there's a good case for asserting notability. There are quite a few reliable secondary sources (eg. books, newspaper articles talking about him). Make sure to add these as references.
- Re hierarchy - you mean as in different categories of wikipedia editor? Wikipedia:User access levels lists the different user levels and what actions each can take; of these, the ones you'll mostly come across are either anonymous users, autoconfirmed users (basically regular logged in users) and administrators. Most things you'll want to do can either be done with standard editor rights, or can be done by an administrator (eg. page deletion, blocking users, normally in response to a particular request or deletion discussion). But it's not really a hierarchy - administrators don't have any real authority over other users, when it comes to editing articles; they simply have the ability to do certain additional things. I'm just a regular user, not an administrator or anything else. --David Edgar (talk) 21:14, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you, it makes things a lot clearer. Later. Mattaidepikiw (talk) 09:04, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Khaled Hosseini´s Genre
Hi,
I saw you changed the genre of Khaled´s book back to fiction. Take a look at the disk.-page. His books are results of his life experience. They are based on true events that are part of Afghanistan´s society, it´s culture and people. Thus, I changed it back to History. Again, please take a look on the Disk.-Page.--94.219.196.21 (talk) 22:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- I see what you've written on the talk page, but I disagree with you that 'history' is an accurate genre. Just because something is based on true events does not make it history.
- He himself says his writing is fictional, for example in this interview: "The story line of my novel is largely fictional. The characters were invented and the plot imagined."
- I don't doubt that some elements of his stories are autobiographical (as is the case with very many authors) but don't mistake that for an attempt to accurately narrate particular events in the past, which is what historical writing would do. --David Edgar (talk) 07:27, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.
For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 20:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
xkcd date
Re this edit: Presumably the date listed is when the comic was drawn, and there's a reference to it somewhere. Wenttomowameadow (talk) 01:40, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- I have great doubts that the original 1999 date was when the strip was drawn. If you look at this version of the page, you'll see that both references to different xkcd comic strips are both dated with the same 1999-02-22 date, which looks suspiciously like some default chosen value. Additionally, I don't think Cory Doctorow had started blogging at that time, or at least wasn't well known. And they're certainly not done in the style of the earliest xkcd strips, suggesting both strips were made much closer to their publication dates.
- So in the absence of any reference for these original dates specified, I replaced them with the publication dates. For the one you refer to, I found the version of the archive on waybackmachine.org where it was displayed on the xkcd front page and used the Friday immediately before. Incidentally this corresponds well to the date in the URL of the blag.xkcd.com reference. --David Edgar (talk) 11:58, 25 March 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, that sounds sensible. Oddly enough, every xkcd comic features the RDF namespace declaration URI http://www.w3.org/1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#, which is perhaps the source of the date due to some bizarre scripting/comprehension accident. Wenttomowameadow (talk) 14:55, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Good catch
Yes! - good catch. It made me go hang on just a minute followed by er no he's right actually! I wish I had the formal grammar training to express it clearly but I think that what you found is a good example of "the other thing", that is, it is not the usual "one comma is wrong but none or two might be right here" thing but the other case where the second comma is not doing the same job, and is just wrong. Well spotted. Cheers DBaK (talk) 11:25, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
File permission problem with File:NormanChurchAyotStLawrenceMay04.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:NormanChurchAyotStLawrenceMay04.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add OTRS pending to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. The article Longsleddale has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Lacks notability and it contains a promotional tone. Creator may have a COI issue.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Mr. Guye (talk) 02:39, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Ian Curtis's house
I think I had gotten the right corner when I planned my little pre-Wikimania day trip from London—I just screwed up the address when I typed the filename Facepalm . It seems, based on this, that my picture is of the far corner rather than the one that was the actual house (yup ... this seems to support that. I think I even printed out the linked map and brought it along) It's hard to tell because the houses are only incidentally numbered. The right house may well be the one at left in this image. I knew at least I was in the right neighborhood.
Anyway, it seems, you live a lot closer to Macclesfield than I do. Feel free to take a picture of the right house and put it in if you are able. Daniel Case (talk) 22:23, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah, it seems like getting good light on it would be the issue (I would have been shooting too late to get any light on the house, and to boot sort of at right angles to the light. This is an excellent website (and mobile app) for calculating natural light availability (and what direction it comes from) at a particular location; I have set this up for 77 Barton St., Macclesfield, Cheshire. Looks like if you can get there early in the morning, you'll have the light on the house. Daniel Case (talk) 01:56, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

- Wikipedia doesn't work on such a notion of "authority" as you suggest. Instead it works on consensus.
- On the topic itself, my primary reasons for reverting were nothing to do with the languages of the sources. Instead, I felt that the reason for the section's inclusion was poorly explained, there was no explanation as to where this variation was used (or by whom), and the English was not good. If you still feel it is important, I would suggest you discuss it on the article's talk page. --David Edgar (talk) 20:58, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

As you attended one of the previous two Manchester meetups and/or expressed an interest in being notified about future ones, this is a heads-up that I have started organising a meetup in Manchester on 9 June 2019 - details are at m:Meetup/Manchester/36. Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
BGerdemann (WMF) (talk) 19:27, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
