- Fair enough. Then would you, possibly, copy some basic data: where born, education, degrees (if any), married + how many? The article is supposed to be about the person who made the changes, not just (only) the changes themselves. Thank you, Shir-El too 21:43, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Alas, I only have online access from 1985 onward. However, I believe we have it in microfilm; remind me to do this in September (I live in a different city right now, so getting there would be a pain) and I'll gladly do it. --Falcon Darkstar Kirtaran (talk) 18:46, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, after seeing a bunch of volleyball players with no info but date of birth and what team they're in, I went to check the athlete notability guidelines. Apparently just being in the Olympics is enough. I don't agree because that means there can hundreds, even thousands of stub articles that will never have anymore than a name, a date of birth and a team membership (because being in the Olympics will be the only "notable" and verifiable achievement for the vast majority of these individuals). From other notability guidelines (WP:BLP, WP:BIO1E, etc), it's not enough. For examples, for politicians, merely being a candidate in an election is insufficient, you need extensive coverage. Just being a participant in the Olympics, without winning a medal or anything, shouldn't be sufficient to have an article, but I guess that's a debate for the sports notability guideline. So I've stopped tagging those stubs.--Boffob (talk) 19:00, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
Bi pong moun
As a matter of interest, whence did you obtain the text of Bi pong moun to re-instate it? Whilst not a great sin, the problem with what you did was that you concealed the original authorship of the article. In fact in this case, looking at the long edit history, I think re-instatement was correct. I am even dubious whether it was worth sending it to AfD. But in future, if you wish to restore deleted stuff will you please: either, use deletion review or, preferably, get admin rights yourself - say the word and I will propose you. — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 04:11, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Logo images with missing rationales
"...you could add a rationale..." - No, because I have no way of knowing what the rationale is for each use of every image and it is the uploader's responsibility to do that. "...the original uploader may not see or understand the warning" - When {{deletable image-caption}} is added to the image caption in an article, anybody with that article on their watchlist is alerted to it. "If you add a rationale yourself, then the project keeps the logo and is better off than if the logo was deleted." - The project is also better off without non-free images with no justification for their use. If an image is deleted, it can easily be re-uploaded. --Geniac (talk) 12:49, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Geraldine McGowan
You declined my speedy request for Geraldine McGowan stating the artist has had multiple recordings. That isn't one of the criteria for notability at WP:MUSIC. The article doesn't assert notability. --JD554 (talk) 20:04, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Petrolul Ploiesti.png)
Thanks for uploading Image:Petrolul Ploiesti.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:26, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Marinas
I noticed you've gone through removing the speedy delete templates I placed on a number of articles (1, 2, etc) started on various marinas. Since you're trying to add references this is fair enough, however i've found that some of these references merely mention the name of the marina and do no more than prove its existance, not prove its notability. Also I found that some of these references could not be accessed. Please ensure that the any more references you add to these articles do infact warrant the removal of the speedy delete request. Thanks Basement12 (T.C) 03:27, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- Even attempting to buy access to the articles results in an error message so I don't think those should be restored? I'd also point out that the authour of these articles has created a large number of these types of article, creating a guidebook/directory (against WP:NOT). They also seem to be copying and pasting direct from the primary sources. A number of these have already been speedy deleted and more are going through AfD (ones I believe you'd previously removed the speedy tags on). See User talk:Prokopenya Viktor for a selection of these issues. Basement12 (T.C) 03:45, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Rebtel
Hey Eastmain. Just got a quick question. I the last Rebtel entry was deleted for some reason and I have made a new one on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebtel that is more neutral, factual and include proper references and external links. How do you remove the old one, which is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Eastmain/Rebtel? Please do tell if you believe that the new one isn't sufficient and if you do, I would appreciate the pointers. Thanks! --Drewie123 (talk) 08:21, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Edgewood Mall
I sort of challenge your keep. There seem to be no sources for the Edgewood Mall, and judging from archives of its webpage there're only about 20 stores for five anchors. It seems to be somewhere in the 300,000-400,000 range of square feet, which is very low for a mall. There's only one mall in Northeastern Michigan (Alpena Mall), but even being the only mall in its region wasn't enough to save it from AfD because it lacked any reliable sources. question
That was at least the third time you have done something like that to a page I have tagged for speedy deletion. I'm curious, do you do that all the time or do you have a problem with me in particular? Perhaps I have been too hasty a time or two in tagging things for speedy deletion, but in each of the cases where you have removed/altered deletion notices placed by me, the article or page has ended up being deleted. I'm not trying to start any drama or anything but it is kind of annoying, and this case seemed particularly frivolous. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:04, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Re Association for Information and Image Management, the CSD speedy tag is for the attention of Admins, which you are not. If you wish to object to a speedy, the correct tag is {{hangon}}, as you've previously been advised. Just removing a speedy tag is regarded as vandalism, so I would hope you cease this practice immediately.--Rodhullandemu 20:50, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Userfied an article at User:Eastmain/Hello Beautiful
Hello Eastmain. Per your request, I restored the speedy-deleted article. It is now in your user space. Please add the references which you discussed. It is possible that the article may still be criticized regarding WP:MUSIC, but the references do improve the situation. One of the articles is in a campus paper, and the other is an interview with one of the musicians, not a review of the music. The group is not published by a major label, and they don't seem to have toured widely or received awards (at least, no awards for which Wikipedia has articles). Perhaps you can get a reference from MuchMusic itself that the band is in rotation there.
When finished, move the article back to main space. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 12:43, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Another airline article nominated for deletion
Hello. Based on your recent comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alaska Seaplane Service, I thought you might be interested in looking at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alsek Air Service. -- Zyxw (talk) 15:18, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Hi. :) Good work saving that article, which I came to listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2008 September 29. (I agree with your stance that often even copyvios can be fixed.) I'm afraid that your new version is actually problematic in that it infringes the copyright of the contributors of the old. For instance, the first sentence, "The Koshi Barrage is a flood control sluice across the Sapta Koshi River at the Nepal–Indian border" was written by User:Gene93k on 19:45, 29 September 2008, but lacking attribution history it looks as though it was authored by you. You probably know that contributors here don't release copyright to their work, but only license it under GFDL. (That's why Wikipedia:Copyrights starts with, "The Wikimedia Foundation does not own copyright on Wikipedia article texts and illustrations." and also why the standard GFDL violation letter must be sent by a contributor to the article being used.) To comply with §4(I) of GFDL, we have to preserve the history of Wikipedia contributors or replicate it to ensure that the copyright of our contributors is preserved. To address this, we either need to resurrect the deleted article so that the history is visible or create a new attribution history. I'll take care of this one, but I wanted to note the situation here and just to ask you please to make sure to credit the contributors in accordance with GFDL if you encounter a situation like this in the future. (Or, pain in the neck though it is, rewrite it in entirely original language.) Thanks, and please let me know at my talk page if you'd like to talk about this. (And sorry for all the wikilinking; it's habit-forming. I even find myself doing it pointlessly in e-mails. :/) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:26, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- The article was deleted as I was rewriting it. It would normally make sense to restore the history, but that would imply restoring the copyvio, which some editors would object to. Please restore the history if the copyvio in the history won't be a problem. -- Eastmain (talk) 18:59, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- I hate it when that happens. :/ Ordinarily, I'd go through the steps of talking to the deleting admin and seeing what we could work out, but since there were only two contributors of text involved, I went ahead and made a note at the article's talk page, which suffices. I even made sure to specify who wrote what, so there can be no problems with GFDL at all. :) Thanks, and, really, thanks for saving it. I do it often enough that I've developed my own template to note it at the article's talk page, but while I often wind up cleaning articles listed at CP, I don't generally do so when they've already been deleted, so that one probably would have been gone for good. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:09, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Southwestern Univ. logo
Interesting coincidence... I just went to take a glance at Southwestern University to see if the athletic logo was being used on the webpage, and you just uploaded it today.
If you would, do me a favor... head over here and grab the last PNG on the page. It's the official logo and will work much better on the page than the one you took from the top of the athletic website. I'd do it myself, but I retired as an admin some time ago and when I make the occasional edit on Wikipedia, I choose to do so anonymously (which doesn't work for updating images, unfortunately).
Thanks. 161.13.105.115 (talk) 03:29, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey there! My user name is from the Star Trek The Next Generation (Episode) - "Binars". I added an extra 1 since someone had already used the name. No, I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and now live in Orlando, Florida (USA) with my wife. Although, our area code is close: 407 (412 in Pittsburgh) interesting thought though... I do feel that wikipedia is somewhat of a collective brain of humanity. I am still fairly new at this, it is fun to learn with everyone. Thank you for your references on the Community Supermarkets article, it is much more balanced now. They are just your everyday grocery stores (I lived and shopped there); that is why I thought the article may need deleted. I saw that it was a stub, maybe it is supposed to be short...

Cesar Chavez HS location
You said: "Correction to name" when you moved the article - [5] That is not a correction to this name. Laveen is not an incorporated community. Phoenix is. The school is clearly within the Phoenix city limits, so the article name should reflect the city. Any school in an unincorporated area would use "Maricopa County, Arizona" as its disambiguation piece. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:10, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- The school's website gives its address as Laveen rather than Phoenix. -- Eastmain (talk) 02:18, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, that is common because of postal service designations. But the designation "Phoenix" is based on city limits and municipal boundaries. Chavez HS is within the city limits of Phoenix even though it has a mailing address of Laveen. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:07, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I agree. There are probably a few malls that didn't get coverage even when they were open. I would say that Brighton Mall probably didn't get much coverage, for instance, since it was so small. There're surprisingly few online sources for even larger malls like Fashion Square Mall as well (for some odd reason, the Saginaw paper isn't in the Google News archives, yet there're smaller podunk newspapers that are). Speedy deletion of Chapmanville Regional High School
A tag has been placed on Chapmanville Regional High School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Synchronism (talk) 04:56, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

- Hello Eastmain, and “Happy Holidays”. Looks like I was a tad late in reviewing the article. I see where it was decided to Merge/Redirect to Westlake, OH. I believe that is a fair compromise. It will give you a chance to expand upon the community, without losing any research you have done to the at this point, and if/when, the piece grows to sustain its own spot here, it will be an easy move. By the way, nice work on the referencing. Take care, and again, “Happy Holidays". ShoesssS Talk 13:48, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Discussion at WP:UFY that you may want to take note of
Hey Eastmain, this discussion now involves a page in your userspace as an example. Thought you might want to know about it and also you would seem to have a general interest in the topic.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 15:35, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Charting songs aren't automatically notable, not at all. WP:MUSIC says that songs may be notable if they have charted, and in fact, several charting songs have been deleted in the past simply because they were very low-charting songs that had no sources. Where'd you get that notion from anyway? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells • Otter chirps • HELP) 22:48, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
- Songs that have been ranked on national or significant music charts ... are probably notable. -- Eastmain (talk) 00:16, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Why did you remove {{Non-free reduce}} here?--Rockfang (talk) 02:36, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I've added a number of 3rd party references on the EHC page. How do you go about removing the "article issues/ nobility" tag at the top of the page? I authored the page, and am not sure if I should be the one removing this tag, or leaving it to someone who is more involved in the wiki community like yourself. I am trying not to be deeply disturbed by the speedy delete tag placed on Jon Udell's article. I just know there is a possibility that in an AfD uninformed twits would vote to have it deleted. Thank you for wisely refusing the speedy delete request.Manhattan Samurai (talk) 12:15, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
I just wanted to ask you about this edit. How on Earth does that image meet the non-free content criteria? Why is it required? J Milburn (talk) 23:52, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
- The answer comes from the text of {{logo fur}}: The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing (insert article name here), a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. Because it is a logo there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary. This is equally valid for historic logos as for those in current use. -- Eastmain (talk) 00:08, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
- Not really, as few of those points apply to historical logos. The image is not placed in the infobox, the historical logo is inevitably going to be less well known than the current one and so is going to be less help in identifying the company, and, in any case, we cannot justify numerous images in a single article for "identification" purposes- that was the key point in the debates about screenshots in episode lists, album covers in discographies, and so on. Again, the intended brand message is hardly going to be displayed by imagery that the company no longer uses, as they have effectively distanced themselves from that imagery. If a historical logo is significant, then it should be discussed in the article's prose. If it is not even significant enough for discussion, then we can't justify using a non-free image. For more information, take a look at this explanation. J Milburn (talk) 11:05, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Defunct subway stations
Hi there. You may want to join a discussion of the article about defunct stations at WT:NYCPT#IRT Second Avenue Line article creation. Many editors who have worked on subway articles in the past believe that these articles ought to be deleted, because there is no reasonable chance that they will ever evolve past their current stub status. Please feel free to join the discussion of you feel differently. Marc Shepherd (talk) 20:46, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
Comsec Consulting
Hey. Thanks for your input on the Deletion Review page. Please help me. I'm not understanding the Wikipedia jargon. I keep getting reported for "breaches" I'm not even aware I'm doing. I didn't get that db-spam thing was something I wasn't allowed to remove. I thought it was a mistake. Then I got blocked. The company is notable with reliable sources. What can I do to have it on here? What's the way to go about it? I can have an external party write the piece, someone without a so-called conflict of interest. You seem to know what you're doing on here, please help. Shar1R (talk) 07:35, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Panda Inn
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Panda Inn, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- notability not established
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:02, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Webmonkey deletion
Hi. Thanks for drawing that to my attention. The article was last edited in January 2008, when someone tagged it for notability, and no one had touched it since. It contained the text: "Webmonkey was closed in February 2004 following a round of layoffs in the U.S. division of its parent company, Terra Lycos. It was reopened later in February 2006. As of July 2006, there is news that Webmonkey will once again be shut down for the third time." So it wasn't exactly up-to-date either! There were references on the page, but two were from Wired Magazine, which was mentioned frequently in the article, and the other was to Webmonkey itself, so they weren't really independent sources.
If I were to restore it, would you be willing to do some work on it? Deb (talk) 04:24, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
