Welcome! from Blnguyen
Hello, Eastmain/Archive 1, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The five pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}
on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome! .Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 05:00, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
I've moved it back to your userpage so you can work on it. Then, when it contains an explanation of notability, it can be moved back to the original location without fear of speedy deletion. Thanks, Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 05:00, 6 June 2006 (UTC).

Re. Weston High School shooting
Thank you for contacting me. I reviewed the situation and in fact my {{test2}} template seems a bit inappropriate. I've replaced it with {{NPOV0-n}}. On a related note, I patrol RC using VandalProof2, which currently only allows test warnings to be placed on talk pages upon reversions. I hope that the other templates become available soon, because I often have to use {{test1}} for POV reversions. :-/ Thanks again for your feedback. Best regards.--Húsönd 15:20, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Terminus Panama, St-Jerome, Ste-Therese
Thanks for your contribution. I would suggest leaving it at Terminus Panama. Most users refer to it by that. The RTL's published schedules call it Terminus Panama and not Brossard-Panama.

You nominated Annette Richardson Dinwoodey for deletion. I think she might be notable as a singer, even if her other accomplishments are not themselves notable. --Eastmain 04:14, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- That's a great point. I'm still concerned that Google shows almost nothing about that. I'm just not sure being a singer on a local Utah radio station 70 years ago really adds up to notability. But I could be wrong. Maybe all of the different slivers of notability will add up to something. The fact that the article was deleted by prod six months ago is more telling to me, in all honesty. —Wknight94 (talk) 04:26, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I am her grandson, so I may be biased but... Annette was the first singer to go out over shore-to-ship radio broadcasts in WWII USO broadcasts. She was the main singer on "Crossroads of the West", a semi-famous radio broadcast that was picked up nationally for a few years. She sung in Carnegie Hall. As I say, I am biased, but I am also and inclusionist. What is the cost here? Why not include her and other semi-famous notables in the wikipedia? Afterall, we're here to increase knowledge, not tailor it down, right? Please look at my record, I would say I am a fair wikipaedian. Davejenk1ns 02:01, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
- I agree that she was a notable singer, and I am glad that you were able to create an article about her. I know you will miss her very much. --Eastmain 04:02, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey man, you added a bit to the page mentioned above, and can you remove the speedy-deletion tag. I'm now allowed to remove it, but you are, because you are not the creator of the article, and it's even more important that it doesn't get deleted now that there is you editing it also, adding more important information. And I didn't even tell you to before it either. So can you remove the top two tags please, its for the good of the article. Thanks. MAZITO - Tuesday, 2nd January, 2007; 03:58 (GMT)

Looks like you did a great job with it. My initial reaction to that article was that it was an ad for a snake in the grass who works with big corporations. Your research proved my hunch right. It deserves to stay but will remain on my watchlist. Ronbo76 22:00, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Isaacs
- Keep Isaacs is my vote. This photographer is quite notable. Editor Hoary decided long ago he didn't want Isaacs' on WP for whatever reason. We both obviously see, along with others, that Isaacs work is as notable as half of the photographers on WP whether its art photography and/or commercial photography. I fleshed out alot of this article but I do understand to google Lee Isaacs is not easy since alot of people have his first and last name as a middle name and last name. I have a book here, UPsouth, that has many examples of his work. This is a Warhol project grant through Space One Eleven. He is in good company as far as the notoriety of the other artists here is concerned. Emma Amos and bell hooks are in the book along with Willie Cole and Marie Weaver. Cole is the only other male in this project. Maybe someone could sift through some of this. Artsojourner 04:53, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

I have made a Spanish version of the page (BIHS), and I have pictures like what you asked for, so where about on the article should I put them then?

Thank you for taking these pictures. Please visit http://commons.wikimedia.org and upload the images there. The images will then be available for use in any of Wikipedia's different languages. You can then use the images in both the Spanish and English Wikipedias. Regarding your suggestion that I remove copyrighted material from this article, I'd be happy to review it for copyright problems, and to make changes as needed, but the template explicitly says Do not edit this page until an administrator has resolved this issue.. -- John Broughton | Talk 23:11, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- To write a new article without infringing material, follow this link to a temporary subpage and create the new article there. State that you have done so on the article's discussion page. --Eastmain 23:52, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for pointing out that option; my confusion arose from the wording of your original posting on my talk page: Could you please remove any copyrighted text from the article? I have revised the initial paragraph of the article - the only one cited in the report of possible copyright infringement, and one that predates my three edits to the article. I have also posted a comment on the talk page of the article, as the template (and you) note should be done. John Broughton | Talk 02:10, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Southern Lord Records deletions
Hey. Thank you for your message. I definitely agree there is a problem. I have tried to assume good faith in this mess, but on the other hand it seems like there has been an attack organized against this record label. I'm pretty sure all of these meet at least one criterion of WP:MUSIC, and some, such as The Obsessed, rather obviously meet several of the criteria. I'll look into the rest later. Warhorse and Striborg might meet the criteria for inclusion, at least by now, but are probably not as notable as the ones currently listed on AFD. Thanks, Prolog 22:13, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Re: Human milk
Yeah, it is, but I really do hope we don't start finding bottles of it in supermarkets. Seriously, this article makes it sound as though it's some kind of milk like cow's milk - and as though we're "milking" humans. Keeping a special diet etc. The wording of the article is a little ridiculous, and I genuinely found the special dieting of humans a little amusing. SMC 09:13, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Defunct Netherland's banks
I am opposed to throwing away information. In the cases with which I am most familiar, bank histories, some of this information is hard to find but can be of use to historians writing about an era, a city, etc.
The page is somewhere between a regular page and a listing. One could turn it into alisting and then link to pages for each bank, but in almost all cases the resulting per-bank page would be a stub that would never get additional material.

cheers for sorting out the above page and related pages to clarify exactly what they were. I tagged the for deletion because as they stood, in my opinion they were unsalvagable. Sr. and Jr. vs. I and II and II
Sr. and Jr. change. I is Sr. and II is Jr. until I dies, then II becomes Sr. and III becomes Jr. Its odd and leads to confusion, thats why you may find references to different people as Senior vs Junior over time. That's all well and good, but what about the notability issue? Is your action a determination that the school passes WP:BIO? All that's left are the school colors, town and nickname. There's not even a hint of an assertion of notability. Would you be offended if I db-bio'd it?
-- Butseriouslyfolks 01:38, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's automatically notable because it's a high school. WP:BIO applies to people, not institutions. Articles on high schools should be kept so that there is a basis on which to build when something newsworthy happens, such as incidents of bullying, violence or racism -- or perhaps a state basketball championship or something like that. The other problem is that if Wikipedia throws away articles on high schools the way it does articles on television masts, new editors are going to give up and won't come back (and they won't send it donations either). --Eastmain 15:18, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

- A priest might use a different coat of arms than the one used by members of his family. For example, there might be a priest's hat above the shield. Sometimes a younger son would use the family coat of arms with an additional symbol on it to distinguish it from the design used by his father or his oldest brother. The article Ecclesiastical heraldry discusses the special types of coat of arms used by priests and bishops. --Eastmain 05:08, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

Taiguara
- This response is intended for both Eastmain and Hojimachong
- Thank you both for your comments, however, I'm a bit confused with the responses. Eastmain suggested I improve the article by adding quite a bit more information (which I was planning to do in the coming days), yet Hojimachong, suggests I do the exact opposite. I'm not sure I understand the issue of "conflict of interest", since I am obviously not writing an article about myself or any musician/band whose work I "promote" or manage on a professional level. I just figured it would be interesting for my father to have an entry in Wikipedia's English page as well (I didn’t create the page in Portuguese myself), since he was a renowned singer/composer/arranger in Brazil at the time of the birth of musical style that will be forever known". His records sell here is the US and many other countries (Amazon and the likes), thus, from time to time, fans of his work will ask me to direct them to a website where they can find more specific info about his career. As you guys found, so far all that's available is a fairly short description on the "All music guide", and a few other less known sites. And quite a bit of this is incorrect, such as the name of the person he credit some songs to in order to avoid vetoing – Allmusic lists it as “Ge Chalar da Silva”, when her name is “Gheisa Chalar da Silva (trust me, I know - that is my mother).
We plan on changing the fact that the info out there (in English) is so scarce, but have not had the time to properly put a decent website together just yet. So, my point is... I believe that having a more extensive entry here provides a valuable service to the many fans who seek further information about him, but do not have enough of a handle on the Portuguese language to understand the information that can be found on Brazilian sites. It further makes sense, that I should be allowed to expand on these entries, as there is no better source for accurate details on the trajectory of an artist as the ones coming from the persons who are personally familiar with his history. This is especially true because, in hopes of concealing Taiguara’s work/messages as they struggled over political disagreements, the militaries manipulated the media to publish untrue accounts of his whereabouts, mental health and even his death (in the 70’s!), when he was very well alive and breathing… Because of this, there still is to this day, quite a bit of confusion as to what really happened during the years that he was not performing in Brazil. And these weren’t merely “rumors”, but articles and news that were published on (supposedly) well respected media sources. In this type of situation, “verifiable”, takes on a whole new meaning, doesn’t it?! But that another discussion all on it’s own that I don’t wish (or have the time to! visit right now.
If Hojimachong still believes that I should refrain from contributing, I will comply. Yet if others feel that my contributions would enrich the article, rather than “tarnishing it”, I’ll consider continuing. Please let me know you thoughts on this. I may not be very proficient with Wikipedia’s customs and (especially) the formats yet, but please understand that the work I’m doing is much more time consuming than editing just this one site. Parallel projects have kept me very busy and I apologize if my constant editing here, in attempts to master how the page should really look like, is bothersome to some of you who know the system quite well.
If I may comment on another question that was raised: Notability is definitely not an issue in this case. Taiguara’s songs were quite notable radio hits from 68 to about 73, two of them held the #1 spot in the charts for their subsequent years, while some others (of his songs) made the top 10 and 50. He also won first place in some of the historic festivals that gave birth to what the world now knows as “MPB”. He has been included in albums called things such as “The great pianists of Brazil” (I noticed someone removed the pianist category, but I believe it should remain) and has one album titled “The winner of Festivals”. Although he had almost 100 songs that were never released due to censorship, and suffered absurd amounts of boycotting, he still achieved a number of hits to put many other so called “celebs” to shame.
The one consensus we seem to have reached here is the fact that the article should remain, yes? So, the lingering question for me is, how do we go about removing the “proposed for deletion” tag?
Thank you and sorry for the long text! ImyraImyra 13:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Scotty Holt
I'm glad Scotty Holt is staying after I proposed its deletion (really, I think you haven't lived till you've heard the Jackie McLean Quartet with S. Holt), and I don't intend to contest its staying (see previous parenthetical observation), but perhaps you could clarify the criteria for me. I can't interpret any of the criteria at Wikipedia:Notability (music) as justifying inclusion if the musician played with someone notable. Since I'm open to the possibility that I may be misinterpreting, I thought I'd ask. If I am, perhaps the criteria could be made more specific (I have left a similar request with Bubba_hotep). John FitzGerald 14:24, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
- The criterion is: "Contains at least one member who was once a part of or later joined a band that is otherwise notable; note that it is often most appropriate to use redirects in place of articles on side projects, early bands and such." I think this justifies an article about any individual musician who was once part of a notable band. --Eastmain 00:48, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I probably skipped that criterion because it starts "Contains at least one member" and sounded like a criterion for a group only. That criterion might perhaps usefully be made more restrictive – it seems to justify an article about the Clarke Road Secondary School concert and stage bands, which back in the 60s had Graham Lear on drums; he's since played for long periods with a few notable bands, such as Santana. And that would probably imply that there could be an article about me as a member of the notable concert band. John FitzGerald 18:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Wrongful accusation of Vandalism
Hey dude,
I NEVER vandalised the Chip Magazine or Wikipedia. I wouldn't dream of anything of that sort, let alone doing it. I am a regular user of Wikipedia for my research and I enjoy the user-created content. My intention is simply to add a touch here or there to provide a finish to the document or to check for spelling errors so that Wikipedia looks more professional. You've DEFINITELY mistaken me for someone else.
I, like, totally empathise with the Wikipedia vision that information should be free and freely accessible, and would like to support the project in any way possible, to chip in with my bit.
I use a lot of shared computers in my university, maybe that's the reason you've flagged my IP.
Thanks for your concern for Wikipedia anyway, together we CAN build a better Wikipedia and a better world.
Thanking you, Sincerely Yours, Arvind Ranganath.--59.92.130.229 16:58, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

General McLane Lancer Ledger
I'm curious as to why you replaced the proposed deletion tag on General McLane Lancer Ledger. At the time you replaced that tag, it had been in place uncontested for more than 5 days, and thus should have been deleted. While I don't necessarily disagree with a merge and I don't think process should be followed for the sake of following process, I still think deletion is the best option. My apologies for not noticing this sooner - I'm not sure how it slipped my attention. Natalie 01:56, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Reply: Even after the five-day period has ended, it's still permissible for another editor to remove the prod tag if he or she disagrees with the proposed deletion.
