After the late Sheikh Zayed assumed the reins of government in Abu Dhabi in 1966, Mahmoud moved with him to Abu Dhabi, was close to him, and accompanied him when he came and went. He wrote his letters to him, read the letters sent to him, and was informed of many of the economic and social matters in which Sheikh Zayed was involved. Due to his long experience in knowing the tribes, the late Sheikh Zayed made him an expert and advisor to him in tribal affairs, and he continued to hold the title of advisor to His Highness, the President of the State, until his death.
