Notably, it was also centuries after the event it depicts, and there is no grounds to support it as fact, nor are there grounds to say that the flag depicted was actually the flag of Kent as it was a common motif among Germanic tribes of the era. I've put 1971 as it's the date it was accepted by the Flag Institute.
