I have rewritten the article about the Silesian School of Iconography (after 11 years!). (Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Silesian_School_of_Iconography) Since then, this institution has changed and developed, allowing me to include many documents, especially those available on the Internet, as references to authenticate and objectify the content. This required a lot of work, but I think it is fundamentally okay. I am not proficient in editing Wikipedia. Therefore, I am asking for help. This article can probably be improved further, but I tried to gather a lot of facts, accounts, news, and book studies and describe them. I would like to create a category adding it to the city of Zabrze and to Silesia because this School started in Zabrze and operates throughout Silesia. That's why I made such a note at the bottom, but I don't know how to apply it nicely, like in the footer with references. In the future, I might also create a gallery, or someone else might do it. For now, please publish it, as I don't know what the next step should be. Thank you in advance and best regards. Please forgive me if I am writing this in the wrong place. :Hello, Like the dewfall. I'm sorry that I didn't reply right away; I've been away camping. I see that you moved the article yourself. However, it was not ready to be published. For one thing, it contains external weblinks in the body of the article; this is against Wikipedia policy. There are links to the websites of people and organizations, and even to social media! Wikipedia is not a place to promote people and organizations. You should remove these links right away before someone decides that your article is an advertisement and deletes it. I can't read the references, because they aren't in English, so I can't tell if they are published neutral sources or if they have been written by members of your organization. I see that some of them are to Facebook and YouTube, so they are unlikely to be acceptable references. —Anne Delong (talk) 15:02, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2019).

 • Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
 • As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.

Speedy deletion nomination of Poseidon Asset Management

Hello Anne Delong,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Poseidon Asset Management for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Craig Simmons Page

Hi Anne, thank you for your feedback with this draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Craig_Simmons Some changes were made based on your comments. Not all of the references could be replaced with independent sources, but all of the important research related ones have. Do you think the page can move forward to being published or do you think there's more work to be done? AhmadKml (talk) 07:09, 24 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello AhmadKml. The changes that you made are positive ones. The draft still needs work. Part of the reason that you had trouble finding independent references for some information is that the draft is written more from an inside perspective than as a neutral encyclopedia article. The emphasis should be on what Prof. Simmons has actually done, rather than on what he is inspired to do and what his and his team's goals and aims are (those things belong perhaps in a magazine interview or promotional material for his department). There is often a big difference between what a person would like others to know about themselves and what journalists and independent academic writers have found interesting enough to write about, and its the latter that is wanted in the encyclopedia.
I removed the direct links to his own publications from the body of the article; that's against Wikipedia policy. I also left a message at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine for a more expert opinion, since I know very little about Prof. Simmons area of research.—Anne Delong (talk) 11:32, 25 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

 • XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.

Arbitration

 • In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases, the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.
 • Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

Mandolins

Hello,

I am in the process of asking for those interested in mandolins to comment. I am one whose additions to the mandolin article have made it too long. Since you worked on the Bluegrass mandolin article, perhaps you might have input? Although I would rather leave the mandolin article intact, I have created two spinoffs from some of its content, the Mandolins in the United States and History of the mandolin. Would you be willing to give opinion? Sincerely, Jacqke (talk) 18:39, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian mandolin

Thank you for your comment on the mandolin article. You made me think of another question-subject. I have no sources dealing with Canadian bluegrass or other music, so have stayed away from writing about it. I'll have to investigate now. Do you think a joint Canada-US article would work? As to North America, I definitely need to see if the mandolin has a significant presence in Mexico, but suspect the bandurria completely fills that niche. Thanks, Jacqke (talk) 20:25, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Jacqke. There's less info about Canadian than American mandolin stuff, because the population is smaller, but there is some: Mandolin Society of Peterborough, Toronto Mandolin Orchestra, the Mandolin Orchestra of Niagara, various mandolinists (Willie P. Bennett, Rex Yetman, Ray Legere, Shari Ulrich, Andrew Collins), luthiers (Michael Heiden, Garrison Guitars, Godin), etc. Both the Central Canadian Bluegrass Awards festival([1]) and the Eastern Canada Bluegrass Music Awards present an annual "Mandolin player of the year" award. The genres are similar to the US, which is why a combined article might make sense. If mandolins aren't played much in Mexico, a short section noting that would do.—Anne Delong (talk) 22:10, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Pelmeen10. I was unable to read which record because the source on Google Books only had "snippet view". However, the French Wikipedia had the information, so, assuming that it is correct I added it to the English article.—Anne Delong (talk) 10:30, 23 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse Hosts

Hello. Over at the Teahouse we're having a bit of a 'spring clean' by removing inactive entries from the list of Hosts. As you don't appear to have been active there for the last couple of years, your 'host profile' has been removed from the list. But please don't let that put you off contributing again in the future - either by signing back up as a Host to assist on regular basis, or just dropping in whenever you fancy helping out.

Thank you for all your past help and support for new users at the Teahouse. Nick Moyes (talk) 20:04, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Guideline and policy news

 • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
 • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
 • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

Technical news

 • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
 • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.

The prodigal student returns; needs help with an article

What'd ya know? Turns out I WAS your student. I hope you won't be disappointed with the work I have been doing since we last talked here. Anyway, I've been working on this article. I came this far without consulting anyone because I was sure I could find a/some place/s to merge the content to if people don't like it as an article. But, now, I need to ask, because I want to publish it and then continue working on it. Didn't feel like asking anyone else before you. The specific problem is: It looks too much like a list and also not enough like a list. Thanks! Usedtobecool TALK 12:57, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Usedtobecool. This is not a topic I know anything about, but there seems to be enough written about it to support an article. I do have some suggestions: First, the statement that superstition is "pervasive" is rather strong and will need a couple of authoritative references. Then saying that this has led to the witch hunts is drawing a conclusion, so that would also need to be attributed to an expert. There may be references out there, or it might be simpler to just write "However, there are many cases each year of people being persecuted as witches in Nepal" or something like that. The sentence about more reporting rather than more incidents should also have a reference, because it's important to know if it's true.
I agree that the list of incidents is a larger part of the article than it should be. If there really are many incidents every year, the article shouldn't try to include all of them or it would be very long; instead, use some as examples, and then say something like "similar incidents happened in the villages of X, Y and Z" and so on. The format you have chosen emphasizes the dates when the incidents happened, which is not actually the important part of the information. It would be less list-like if the sub-section headings were removed and the paragraphs just put all in one section - that's just my opinion, though.
The balance between cases and general information could be improved by added more to the rest of the article to put the incidents in perspective. For example, have the government or the police made any statements or taken any general actions to discourage or prevent these incidents? Are there any laws related to it? Do the incidents happen more frequently in urban or rural areas? Are there international efforts, protests or discussions?
Here's a person who has written a play about it: [2] [3]
Here's an article by a person who has studied witch accusation in Nepal: [4]
There are a couple of pages in this book that have information that may be relevant: [5]
Here's an article which says witch persecution is part of a larger problem in institutionalize violence against women:[6]
Here's one about a local government initiative: [7]
I hope this is helpful. I will be camping in an internet-free zone for several days starting tomorrow, so I won't be able to reply again until Monday.—Anne Delong (talk) 17:12, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
... Aaand, I'm back! @Anne Delong: I'd like to think I took heed of most of your suggestions if not all. I have moved the article to mainspace. I did end up making that article about the broader topic as you suggested. But I decided against turning the incidents' list into prose, until I had a lot more incidents to write about. I think I have now. So, I've decided to write a prose section about major incidents and move around the sections to turn it into a proper article. I will cut the list that is there into a draft, add a dozen more incidents and publish a separate list article as the main article for the prose section of incidents (after it gets out of the DYK process; resisting major change until that is resolved, one way or another). Anyway, that's that. The reason I came knocking is a different one.
I have decided to work on Nepal, referring to India and Switzerland for guidance. It's almost abandoned, so I don't expect to encounter a lot of disruption. I recently completed rewriting the Etymology which can be found at Nepal#Etymology. I feel like it's too long. What I've written is almost the complete story but it can be expanded to perhaps about double the size if it were to be a stand-alone article. While it feels too long, there's also the fact that all other examples I referred to talked about definitive etymologies while mine's about about 900 years of debate. I was wondering if you could give it a read and share your thoughts. Options to consider:
 1. Moving it to a stand-alone article and expanding it with all the details, while only giving the etymologies proper in the current article without all the background info.
 2. The current version is fine, as it's only slightly longer than those of countries with non-controversial etymologies.
 3. No matter how long the debate has been, etymology of a term doesn't deserve a standalone article, neither does it deserve so many words in this article, so cut the crap from this version and forget the rest (might require a helping hand).
Thanks!
P.S. You can say so if you wish to no longer continue the Guru-shishya relationship. I am very amicable, and understand the changing nature of goals and interests of a person over time. I absolutely wouldn't want to be imposing. Usedtobecool ✉️  20:08, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, Usedtobecool. Sorry to take so long to reply - no internet at the cottage. I took a look at the Etymology section and it's informative, and I think long enough. (Consider WP:NOTDIC). When I am considering adding to an article, I ask myself, what are the readers looking for when they begin to read it? Chances are they want to know things like: Where is Nepal? What are the climate and terrain like? What countries are nearby? What is the main religion? What products and serves are produced? Where are the main cities, and how does one get there? Most readers won't be familiar with the term "etymology".
About making a stand-alone article: consider that anyone wanting more detail than what you already have there (and some of that appears to be speculation) can go and read one or more of the scholarly works you've cited. (You've done a good job of making it clear that it's other people, not Wikipedia, proposing theories of possible origins.) Encyclopedia articles are supposed to be summaries, not long and exhaustive treatments of a subject. In this case it looks like even the scholars don't know for sure, so as you write more, the balance tips toward speculation and theories as opposed to established facts.
However, remember that this is just one opinion - I personally like adding straightforward, factual information - others enjoy adding peripheral and corroborating material. And you aren't imposing - most people like giving advice - and likewise after you read it you are free to disregard it.—Anne Delong (talk) 04:09, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'll leave the matter as is for now, then. We'll see how it naturally evolves from here. I might get back to it when the rest of the article is up to acceptable standards. Hopefully, by then, I'll be a bit more older and wiser to look at it with a better perspective. Thanks as always! P.S. I still can't believe I didn't see that comma after the "Before", in so many readings of it. LMAO! Usedtobecool ✉️  08:54, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

 • Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
 • The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

AfC Mentoring

Hi Anne! I hope that you're well. I remember your name from your AfC-related posts at WT:MED. Now that AfC appears on the article alerts, I was thinking of taking a bite at some anatomy-related ones. I haven't reviewed any before and want to make sure I'm up to scratch in terms of my reviewing style. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind being pinged in a little bit (maybe a week or two) and having you have a look at my work when I've reviewed some?

Cheers --Tom (LT) (talk) 10:24, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, Tom (LT). I've gotten away from AfC lately, but have been meaning to get back to it. I will do my best. However, in the summer I am sometimes involved in activities which take me away from the internet for a day or two, so you may not receive a reply right away. Also bear in mind that I don't know anything about anatomy!—Anne Delong (talk) 12:18, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks :), will contact you then! --Tom (LT) (talk) 09:21, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done! I reviewed Skin temperature and Epididymis evolution from reptiles to mammals and accepted both. I ran a manual copyvio check on Skin temperature (ie copy into google) and then remembered to do Earwig's one on the second one. Both are well cited and have text that is intelligible. To me they are well within the bounds of normal articles that we see around here and had no major issues that stopped them being accepted. I added relevant Wikiprojects and then tagged both articles. Would you mind having a look and then letting me know what you think about them and how I've managed them? It's quite exciting to learn a new Wiki-skill; once I get the hang of it I can deploy it more readily in the future. --Tom (LT) (talk) 08:12, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Tom (LT). I took a look at the two articles, and I agree that they shouldn't be kept in AfC any longer. The "Skin temperature" looks pretty good. The other one needs a lot of work to change it from something suitable for an academic journal into an article which an ordinary educated reader would find informative. I can see why you checked twice for copyright issues - having a complete article plopped into AfC in one edit by an unregistered user is unusual. However, the needed changes are more likely to happen in mainspace than in AfC, so you were right to promote it. Good work!—Anne Delong (talk) 01:33, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bluegrass topics=

Hi, I am a professor working on bluegrass topics and am leading my students in editing articles about bluegrass musicians. I am arriving late to your call for more work on bluegrass-related wikipedia articles, but figured I would say "hi"!Bidgoodl (talk) 20:55, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bidgoodl. At the time I got very little response to my initiative to co-ordinate work on bluegrass articles. I had hoped to create a WikiProject, but there wasn't enough interest. I still work on them from time to time. It's sometimes difficult because so much of bluegrass is grass-roots-based rather than industry-driven, and the publications tend to be short-lived, not digitized and hard to find. I wish you and your students well in this endeavor.—Anne Delong (talk) 04:16, 6 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Article Review

Hi, Anne! Guess you are having a better day than I am? I just want to ask a question. My reviewer is on wikibreak and will like my article reviewed before resubmitting. How do I go about it?Dee 12:24, 19 September 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duthperod (talkcontribs) [reply]

Hello Dee. The whole purpose of resubmitting is to get a review; however, I will comment: I see that you have shortened the draft, and that's a good thing. Information in an encyclopedia should be a summary of what has been published by journalists and other authors who are independent of the subject - The longer the draft, the more difficult it is to back up the information in it with reliable independent sources. There is still a lot of unsubstantiated content. Also, Wikipedia can't include opinions (such as "The Grubbs's work contributed to the exponential growth of Raytheon....") unless they are attributed to a knowledgeable expert. The link in the text to his wife's website will need to be removed, as per Wikipedia policy of no external links in the body of an article.

My analysis of the references: (1) Obituary: This appears to be a family-placed obituary. If this is a well-known person, there should be obituaries written by journalists, perhaps in business journals. It would be better to cite these.

(2) Desert Warrior: Although this is a "personal view", it does support that Grubbs was Raytheon's general manager, and that's a plain fact, so that's okay.

(3) Anything but Ordinary: This has been written by the subject himself, and so shouldn't be used as a reference - It could be added to a section at the end called "Further Reading".

(4)The Richest Man: This appears to be a book written by a journalist, a good reference. However, the paragraph it supports isn't written in a neutral way, and it's not clear. It shouldn't say what Grubbs thought, just what he did. Phrases like "world-renowned", "the timing was perfect", and "blossomed" aren't suitable, and it doesn't actually say what the rich man did. After the first sentence, the rest could all be replaced with "They decided to befriend Adnan Khashoggi, who had become wealthy acting as an agent in the oil and arms businesses." or something like that.

(5) "Improved Hawk for Saudi Arabia": I didn't load this, because my browser said "Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead". However, the two paragraphs in the section that it supports are mostly not about Grubbs, but are instead a history lesson about the Saudi economy - I'm sure there's already an article about that. It could all be replaced with one sentence, something like "In 1972 Grubbs, along with Raytheon President/CEO Tom Philips, and Raytheon Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Phalen, worked out a proposal to sell between $400 million and $800 million in Hawk Missiles to the Saudi Arabian government."

(6) Milestone pact: This article in the NY Times doesn't appear to mention Grubbs at all. It's a good source for the fact that the contract was signed, but leaves unsupported all of the details of Grubbs' role.

(7) SECRET: - This is a discussion of whether the contract should have military advisors, and doesn't support any of the information in the paragraph, which is mostly not about Grubbs anyway.

(8) Whittaker and (9) Firm's success: These are not about Grubbs and don't mention him. The section about his role in the company is unsubstantiated.

(10) Litton and (11) SEC: These are not about Grubbs and don't mention him. The long involved paragraphs they are linked to are mostly not about him either. After the first sentence, the rest could be replaced with something simpler, such as: "Litton experienced an on-going problem in providing a sufficient inventory of spare parts; at the suggestion of his friend Khalid, Litton hired Grubbs as program manager in 1986 to resolve the issue, which he was able to do after several years of work."

(11) Informal: This doesn't say who made the remarks or if Grubbs was present; it's not a published document. It doesn't support any of the information in the paragraph, which has a lot of opinion and is more suitable for a memoir than an encyclopedia and needs serious trimming.

Okay, I hope that helps. Please focus the article on what Grubbs did, not who his friends were or what else was going on in the world, and try to find news reports or magazine features that tell about his life to use as references.—Anne Delong (talk) 05:44, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Anne for taking your time to go through the article, it means a lot to me. I have worked on your suggestion and will like your take on it again.Dee 20:44, 20 September 2019 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duthperod (talkcontribs) [reply]

Thank you once again, can I go ahead now to resubmit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Duthperod (talkcontribs) 12:32, 22 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Duthperod, please wait a bit - I will write back to you with some further information, but am having a busy time in my off-wiki life right now and don't have time tonight.—Anne Delong (talk) 00:14, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Dee, now I have a bit of time. The draft of the article has reasonable content now. There's still one serious issue that could prevent it from being accepted if you submit it. Wikipedia has inclusion criteria - see Wikipedia:Notability (people). Since Wikipedia contributors are not necessarily experts in the subjects of the articles they are editing, they depend on those who are - in this case journalists, business analysts and historians who aren't friends, relatives or co-workers of the subject - to determine what information should be in the encyclopedia.
The references that you have included show that Mr. Grubbs was a business executive, and that he was friends with a rich man, and that Saudi royal family members liked him and didn't blame him for problems in his company. However, the criteria specifically state that having a relationship with or being associated with a famous person is not a justification for a stand-alone article. What's needed are news reports, historical analysis, articles in business journals or magazines that cover international affairs, etc., which state specifically what he did and why it was important. The references of this type that you've included mostly don't mention him at all. I spent some time looking on the internet and was unable to find anything, although of course not all content is freely available on line. I fear that if you submit the draft with these references, it will be rejected again.
If this happens, and you are unable to find stronger references, you may consider adding to the existing pages about the Hawk missile, Litton Industries, or Raytheon, where he is not mentioned. A single reference is all that's needed to add to an article.
You have put a lot of work into this, and you may also consider posting your more extensive earlier version on another website that isn't an encyclopedia. (see http://turndog.co/2014/10/28/14-free-platforms-to-share-your-short-stories-online/ "14 Free Platforms To Share Your Short Stories Online"] —Anne Delong (talk) 14:16, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Anne Delong Thanks Anne, I will resubmit the article and see what happens. If it's regretted again then I will have to go with your suggestion which is adding it to an existing page.Dee 14:30, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello mcelite.

I received your e-mail, but I prefer not to discuss Wikipedia business off-wiki, so this is my only reply. You were legitimately blocked for using multiple accounts to try to get around Wikipedia's policies. The admins who made this decision spent time looking into the matter carefully and were previously uninvolved. According to WP:SOCKBLOCK, you should now wait six months or so, and then make an unblock request without blaming relatives or anyone else, and explaining why Wikipedia would benefit from your edits, and promising not to make other editors and admins, who would rather get on with adding neutral facts and sources to the encyclopedia, spend their time dealing with sockpuppetry or edit warring instead. Not being able to edit Wikipedia in the meantime may be disappointing, but certainly not "terrifying", and saying so won't help convince anyone that you are a reasonable person who can follow the policies.

About the other editor you mentioned in your e-mail: he/she is not the reason you were blocked. Don't worry; there are tens of thousands of editors; if some inappropriate edits are made, someone will fix them eventually. If there's disagreement about the edits, Wikipedia has plenty of accepted dispute resolution mechanisms, such as Wikipedia:Third opinion and Wikipedia:Requests for comment.

Please do something else for a few months before making another unblock request.—Anne Delong (talk) 15:10, 8 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anne, thank you very much for replying it means a lot. I accept my punishment even though yes it's hard because I want to do more. I just wanted to show that I didn't just start trouble to just to be difficult and that I'm not blaming Corbie for my block. I did want to show what Corbie was doing so it could be brought to the attention of others. I made a serious mistake and I know apologizing right now won't change my current standing. Again thank you for your response and time.2600:1700:E5D0:CC30:C571:DBCD:3C38:8C99 (talk) 15:50, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

BLP considerations

Anne, hello again! I want to write an article about this incident. It is notable as it has historic implications both politically and otherwise. It also has SIGCOV to support content. I think I can take it cautiously enough with WP:BLP open in the other tab. My concern is, whether the very idea of an article is improper or TOOSOON as, all the sigcov notwithstanding, the accusation itself still remains just that. Would it be WP:GOSSIP to create an article before the crime is proven, considering the SIGCOV is mostly focused on the alleged perpetrator, rather than the victim? Etcetera. Usedtobecool TALK  14:42, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Usedtobecool. If reliable sources have reported the arrest, then it is not gossip, as long as only the facts in the sources are summarized. However, I don't see why this incident would need an article separate from the article that already exists about Krishna Bahadur Mahara. It's only because he is a well-known person that the incident is in the news. I suggest that instead you start a section about the incident near the end of his article, being very careful not to add any speculation, only reported facts. Even if he is later convicted, mistreatment of women is unfortunately all too common, so unless there is something particularly unusual about the case, a few sentences in the existing article are probably enough. The text can always be moved to a separate article later in the unlikely case where the story expands beyond him (if, for example, investigators find a pattern of mistreatment involving other officials).—Anne Delong (talk) 06:00, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:dotmobile | Requesting feedback

Thank you for edits on the Dotmobile page. Requesting any feedback that could aid in speedy review and publishing of the page. Thanks. --WindowPlant96 (talk) 18:06, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, WindowPlant96. The fact that the article has not yet been approved may be at least partly because the information in it is mainly about things that are planned and announced for the future, rather than facts about what the company has actually done. If the company's products are still in development it may be Wikipedia:Too soon.
To comply with Wikipedia's requirements (Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)), and to confirm the accuracy of information, a company has to have been written about extensively by journalists and/or other independent authors in published documents. Press releases, or articles which just copy information from press releases saying something like "according to company sources", or quotes of comments made by company officials in interviews, don't help, because they are not independent.
It's surprising how much difference there can be between what company representatives think is important for the public to know and what independent writers find interesting enough to research and write about.
To improve the article's chances of passing a review, I suggest that you check the current references, and if they are based on material spoken or written by the company's staff, remove them and find articles written instead by business or tech reporters.(I didn't see anything in the Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun, the National Post or the Globe and Mail.) If you don't find anything, you may want to wait until there is more coverage. If you succeed in finding some, then change the tone of the draft so that there is less of "aims to" "announced", and "under development" and more "this happened" and "that was reported", to avoid the appearance that the purpose of the draft is to promote the company (per WP:PROMOTION).—Anne Delong (talk) 20:45, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

 • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
 • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

 • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: uw-pblock.
 • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [8]

Arbitration

 • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

Okay, Harpgear, I have fixed it up and accepted it. It needed a lot of changes - not enough facts in the body of the article, too much promotional language and namedropping for a neutral encyclopedia article, and some superfluous information that was about the awards rather than about Johnson. rejection

Hi Anne, could you tell me why my submission for Douglas Wilson was declined? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thumper1001 (talkcontribs) 12:30, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Thumper1001. I can't find a submission called "Douglas Wilson" in the Draft area, but I did find a short paragraph in your sandbox here: User:Thumper1001/sandbox. Is this what you are talking about? It's the only thing I can find in your contributions.
Sandboxes are just for experimenting, so no one would notice what you wrote there unless you notified them about it. However, if this is the "submission" you are talking about, it would in no way be suitable for an encyclopedia article. For one thing, it has a long phrase taken from a press release in the Globe and Mail, which would be a copyright issue. For another thing, it's written more as a CV than as a biography. Thirdly, Wikipedia has inclusion criteria (read about them here: Wikipedia:Notability (people). To show that Mr. Wilson is well-enough known to be the subject of a world-wide encyclopedia article, his life and activities must have been written about extensively in books, magazines, news reports, business journals, etc., by authors or journalists who are not connected with the companies and organizations with which he's connected (ie, not press releases or company documents). The article has to include references to these sorts of things to demonstrate this to the other Wikipedia editors. Here's an example of an article with appropriate references - Alan Gertner; if you click on "edit" and look at the code you can see how these are added.
If this is not the one that you mean, please indicate the exact name of the page you submitted.

I hope this helps.—Anne Delong (talk) 13:55, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help with AfC submission!! Thank you for your time!!

Hello Anne,

I'm fairly new to wiki, and created this draft about Yiannis Papadopoulos (guitarist) a month ago. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Yiannis_Papadopoulos_(guitarist)

I saw your name in a few articles for musicians including https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ioannis_Anastassakis

and I thought I'd ask your if you could maybe have a look and let me know if you see sth that I could make better or if it's ok? Sorry if I'm asking sth that I shouldn't, I'm not very familiar with all the wiki policies.

I appreciate your time, I know you're busy. Thank you very much. Rhythm Zero (talk) 18:29, 2 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rhythm Zero. It's fine to ask for help; Wikipedia is a giant collaborative project. I took a look at the page, and I have some suggestions:
First, be careful of name-dropping, because anything that seems as though it is included only to boost the importance of the subject is inappropriate. For example, you mention the well-known band Creed in the lead section, but Mr. Papadopoulos has nothing to do with that band, really. If he plays Creed songs it could be mentioned further down in chronological sequence of his career.
Tone down or remove any text that is about feelings and ideas rather than about facts; for example "influences" instead of "inspirations" is more neutral; musicians whose work he enjoyed shouldn't be in the article - Wikipedia is not a fan magazine - but sometimes those who had an influence on his style of playing are included.
Announcements of upcoming projects are inappropriate, as other types of press releases and promotions. Concert reviews by music writers are good. I removed a reference to "discogs"; this isn't an independent reliable source - it's user-contributed like Wikipedia. Be careful about the use of interviews as references; only what the interviewing journalist says can be used as a reference, not what the interviewee says - that is, avoid relying on Mr. Papadopoulos' own words - these are not neutral or independent verification. Interviews where the journalist just asks questions and has not included his or her own research shouldn't be included.
Promoting his sponsors is definitely a no-no - if there's equipment that he is so known for that independent journalists and music critics are writing about it (like Willie Nelson's guitar or Paul McCartney's bass), that's okay; otherwise don't mention brand names - Wikipedia has a policy against advertising. The same goes for using promotional videos of the band as references - I haven't heard of gshow, but it sounds like that, and definitely facebook references are out.
A musician who is mainly known for work in one band is often included in Wikipedia as a section of the article about that band. To be eligible for a separate article, he/she has to have been written about extensively, not just a sentence or two in an article about the group, so look for those sorts of references.
One more thing: when adding references, be sure to include the name of the journalist, the name of the magazine or newspaper, and the publication date, not just what website it was posted on. These items help to show that it is an actual published document, not just somebody's social media or personal blog. I fixed one for you that just said "issue.com".
Okay, I hope this helps. If I get some time I may work on the draft a bit. I've been surprisingly busy for an old lady that can't leave her house these days.—Anne Delong (talk) 12:33, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Anne, first of all I'd like to thank you for your quick and in-depth reply, it really shed light on aspects I would be able to understand and correct on my own. I edited the article following your guidelines, deleting parts and the "not good/not acceptable" sources, correcting the language and the format of all the sources. If you can find some time to have one more look I'd appreciate it. Thank you very much once again. Rhythm Zero (talk) 20:59, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Iftekhar Rafsan

--KaziKamrulOfficial17 (talk) 19:06, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello sir, My name is Kamrul. This is my first article on Wikipedia. I am now the new Wikipedia editor. I am bored sitting at home all day because the university is currently closed. So I thought let's do something. That's why I came to Wikipedia. I thought of writing the article "Iftekhar Rafsan" because I am one of his super fan. I don't know how successful I was in writing this article but I tried my best. If I have any mistakes, I have a request to correct them. Finally, my request was that the article be reviewed once. Thank you

Hello, Kamrul. Welcome to Wikipedia! I took a look at your draft; you've done a good job with the formatting. Before the draft is reviewed, it's important that the information in it verified by independent, published sources. If journalists or other authors not connected to Iftekhar Rafsan write about him extensively in magazines, news articles or books, then he is well-enough known to be the subject of an encyclopedia article.
Some of the references you have included seem to be this kind, but I am unfamiliar with news sources in that part of the world; you will know better which are well-respected sources. However, others seem to be press releases, advertising, and videos of the subject these are not independently written. About the statistics you have included in the article: References to the databases of results show that the sentences are accurate, but they don't show that they are significant; for that you once again need to show that journalists or feature writers (not people close to him) who cover these topics have written and published articles about his involvement in the sport.
I hope this helps; I will have to leave the reviewing of the page to someone who knows about gaming, food reviewing and Bangladesh.—Anne Delong (talk) 21:08, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Anne Delong:Thank you so much sir for replying to my message. Honestly I was a little emotional when writing the article because this is my first article. I wasn't really familiar with Wikipedia Guideline. I didn't understand many things at all. I have tried a lot to learn as much as I can by Google. So I apologize if I made a mistake. I have tried a lot to collect data from verified by independent, published sources. Among them The Daily Star (Bangladesh), Dhaka Tribune, The Prestige Magazine are many established newspapers in Bangladesh. HLTV, ESL (company) has his profile. Where news and statistics of professional esports players are published. Various official sports tournaments are arranged at challonge.com. These tournaments are arranged by the official sports clubs. CHALLONGE's parent organization is Logitech. As a fan of his, I follow him all the time. Moreover, he has a lot of TVCs that are not mentioned anywhere. For being involved with YouTube, Esport and many creative works, Iftekhar Rafsan is currently the most influential personality in Bangladesh, especially among the youth. So my request to you is to reconsider my article as a new Wikipedian. --Kazi-Kamrul-Hasan (talk) 13:51, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

KaziKamrulOfficial17, it seems that you have deleted that draft. Perhaps you misunderstood me - I did not reject your work. I just said that I thought someone more familiar with the topic of YouTube personalities and online gaming should take a look at it rather than me. You could ask the guys at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Bangladesh or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Internet culture to find editors who know about this stuff. It is too soon to give up!—Anne Delong (talk) 20:14, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute

Hello. I know administrators are not supposed to resolve dispute but this isn't going anywhere. You might be familiar with User:Kazi-Kamrul-Hasan. I'm just trying to improve the article Iftekhar Rafsan which he created. He is constantly reverting my edits without reasonable conclusions. He told me about putting citations but the parts I edited doesn't require any. I've been trying get to get to the bottom of this but he is making it difficult. He should also know that Wikipedia isn't a personal blogging website and he cannot 'own' an article he created. I would like your opinions in this matter. Thanks. Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Anne Delong, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

I have created a page for a Mark Johnson collaboration album he recorded with the Rice Brothers. I was wondering it you might review it at your convenience for any corrections I may need to make. Thank you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Harpgear/sandbox — Preceding unsigned comment added by Harpgear (talkcontribs) 21:25, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Harpgear. Sorry to take so long to reply; I've been busy this week with my own (non-notable) album release.

I took a look at your draft, and I think there may be an insurmountable problem. In order to have a separate encyclopedia article about an album, the album itself (not just the musicians) needs to have been written about extensively by music reviewers or other independent journalists and authors. I did a Google search, and didn't find anything, really. There's a chance that paper music magazines may have written features or reviews about the album which haven't made it online because the album was out before the internet.

AllMusic can be a good source in some situations. Just being listed there doesn't mean anything - the site tries to list every release, no matter how obscure. If the AllMusic review staff have added a review of the album (not "user reviews"), then that counts as an independent source- they are experienced reviewers. Discogs is just a database which anybody can add to, so it doesn't indicate that the album is well-known; it belongs in the "External links" section, not as a reference.

Unless you can show that the album has had some notoriety now or back in the day, you run the risk that the article will be deleted if you move it to mainspace. This is often a problem with bluegrass topics; in many places it's a niche market; the magazines were often small and disappeared without a trace after a few years.

If you can't find multiple album reviews and/or feature articles about the album, my suggestion is that you add a section at the end of the article about Mr. Johnson, but before the discography, called by the name of the album. Trim your text of info that's already earlier in the article, and then copy the remaining text and tracklist there. Then you can create a "Redirect" article which will send anyone searching for the article to that section. If you decide to do this, I can help you with the last bit. The good thing about this is that people will be able to read what you've written, and if you later find good references you can always move the text to its own article.

I hope this is clear.—Anne Delong (talk) 18:07, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Diane Andersen

Hello Mrs. Lelong, a very big thank you for contributing to the publication of the page "Diane Andersen". I really think that this artist deserves it; she is a citizen of the world who tries to honor forgotten composers, contemporaries and whose masterclasses encourage and perfect young pianists. Your advice

Hi. Please take a look at Draft:7shifts. It is a properly stated WP:COI contribution about a Canadian software company. I had an interesting discussion with the first reviewer on how WP:ORGCRIT should be applied in this case. Keen to know your oppinion on the subject, considering your vast experience of editing Wikipedia and knowing the Canadian media landscape. -- Bbarmadillo (talk) 19:48, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Bbarmadillo. I have been reading your discussion, as well as the proposed article, and I have a few comments:
 • You wrote about the Globe and Mail article, saying that most of it was information about that company. That's true, but please remember that only text written in the journalist's own words count towards notability. That's because the parts in quotations, or following words such as "The company announced", "Mr X said", "The owner hopes", etc., aren't independent and aren't fact-checked. (If I were being interviewed, and said "The Earth is flat", and if the reporter printed "Anne said the Earth is flat" that would be a true statement.) If all of that text isn't considered, there is still some plain info about the company, but not as much as it seems at first glance.
 • I would say the same thing about the CBC article. Short paragraphs 2, 4, 5 have some info; the rest is quotes, speculation by the interviewee, etc.
 • Press releases shouldn't be used for references - If no independent business writer has taken the time to write about a particular fact in the article, then that fact is likely of interest only to those with COI, and should just be omitted. Wikipedia articles include what the readers want to know, not what the company wants them to know. This often happens when awards, anniversaries or business milestones are being touted.
 • I notice that the "Best Workplaces" article says "Sponsor content" at the top...
 • I agree with CNMall41 about the government article - I can't tell if the text was written by an independent author or not.
I am not familiar enough with business websites to know the value of the three at the bottom of the list, but the local news articles do contain some good information. Here's another one: https://www.cjme.com/2019/02/03/sask-tech-company-using-ai-for-restaurant-scheduling-2/ Maybe this one https://thelogic.co/news/saskatoons-7shifts-preps-for-post-pandemic-restaurant-recovery-with-planned-hr-tech-expansion-raise/ will help.
Okay, that's all I have to say for now.—Anne Delong (talk) 00:05, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. All my reviews of company drafts, which I have worked a lot on, come down to WP:ORGCRIT. The goal of AfC is to review and then approve those drafts which would "likely" (not definitely) make it through an AfD discussion. I could ping a few editors who are even more strict when it comes to ORGCRIT and I know they certainly would vote to delete if it went to AfD. That's why I feel that it likely would NOT pass AfD. One thing that could push something like this over the top is reviews of a company's products or services, but I couldn't even find those in any major publications outside of announcements of who is using the software. Wish I could give more hope, but keep in mind its just my opinion which is why I am leaving it for another reviewer. Good luck. --CNMall41 (talk) 01:45, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anne DelongCNMall41 thanks a lot to both of you for very exact and helpful suggestions on improving the article. I edited the draft accordingly. I have doubts about thelogic.co, it doesn't look like a reliable source to me (the site doesn't have its own Wikipedia article and hasn't been used as a reference on Wikipedia). Also added more product reviews (Software Advice, Fool.com) to the existing ones (Capterra, Investopedia, G2 Crowd). --Bbarmadillo (talk) 06:35, 27 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 • Following a request for comment, page movers were granted the delete-redirect userright, which allows moving a page over a single-revision redirect, regardless of that redirect's target.

Technical news

 • When you move a page that many editors have on their watchlist the history can be split and it might also not be possible to move it again for a while. This is because of a job queue problem. (T278350)

Administrators' newsletter – July 2021

News and updates for administrators from the past month (June 2021).

Guideline and policy news

 • Consensus has been reached to delete all books in the book namespace. There was rough consensus that the deleted books should still be available on request at WP:REFUND even after the namespace is removed.
 • An RfC is open to discuss the next steps following a trial which automatically applied pending changes to TFAs.

Technical news

 • IP addresses of unregistered users are to be hidden from everyone. There is a rough draft of how IP addresses may be shown to users who need to see them. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

COI Request to Improve Black Girls Rock!

Hello User:Anne Delong. I work with Black Girls Rock!, and therefore have a conflict of interest (COI) relationship. The organization is now much more than an awards show, so this article is quite out of date. I believe in adhering to the Wikipedia rules, therefore I’m looking for an editor that can help me improve this page. I was wondering if you might find it a good use of your time to help with article improvements? I look forward to your reply. Thank you, G Smiley BGR (talk) 16:32, 19 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello G Smiley BGR. I am willing to take a look at the page to see if it needs updating. Please remember that Wikipedia articles are not to be used to announce future events or to promote aspects of a subject which are not already widely known and independently reported. I'll look for news reports in recognized news sources with text written by reporters or reviewers, rather than press releases or interviews. It may be a couple of days before I have time to get to this.—Anne Delong (talk) 03:50, 21 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello User:Anne Delong. Thank you for your response and your willingness to look for news reports and to take a look at the Black Girls Rock! page. I also appreciate you for reiterating the Wikipedia rules regarding future event promotion and sourcing. I am pulling sources as well and will have some content for your review within the next week. I will put the content on the article's talk page and ping you and User:SyLvRuUz. Thank you, again! G Smiley BGR (talk) 16:39, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
G Smiley BGR, I do not want to review text that has been written by someone who works with the subject of the article. Wikipedia is supposed to be written by neutral editors. I made a few changes, and started a history section with information in the NYT article. If you find news or magazine articles that have more details about the history that are not written as quotes from people connected with BGR, please let me know and I will read them. for example, how the organization has been funded, where and when new initiatives were started, setbacks or controversies if any, etc.)
The content as it is has some issues: The mention of an event that hasn't happened yet will need to be removed until it actually takes place unless it is notable enough that newspapers and concert reviewers are writing about it. (see WP:CRYSTAL). Also, the lists of award recipients are mostly referenced to closely connected websites. If you can find news or magazine sources (not social media) that have reported the winners, I will happily change the references. If no one has written about the award winners except the organization itself, this is problematic.—Anne Delong (talk) 20:59, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello User:Anne Delong. Yes, I completely understand. Rather than posting the text that has been written, I can post a list of articles/sources that may be helpful for your review and editing process. Would you like me to post the sources as links or would you prefer that I post them formatted with wiki syntax? Also, would you like the references posted to your talk page or the article talk page? Thank you again for your willingness to review and edit. G Smiley BGR (talk) 16:18, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The article talk page would probably be better - they may be useful to others. Be sure to include only sources that are independently written. Links to the original sources are best. I'll take a look in a day or two.—Anne Delong (talk) 22:26, 9 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello User:Anne Delong. I am writing to let you know that I updated the article talk page with links that may help in updating the history section of the article. Thanks again,

G Smiley BGR (talk) 17:00, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:Anne Delong. I am writing to see if you had a chance to look at the article talk page with links that may help in updating the article. Any support you could offer would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

 • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
 • The template db-afc-move has been created - this template is similar to db-move when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 15:59, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:10, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

 • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
 • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

 • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

 • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

Silesian School of Iconography

Like the dewfall (talk) 18:51, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Like the dewfall. —Anne Delong (talk) 15:02, 3 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Andrew Gray

Hello, Anne Delong. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Andrew Gray".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 16:49, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
