Confusing senseless sentence
[edit]The sentence This is made impossible by all other services impossible. doesn't make any sense and is very confusing. I have not removed it because it probably serves some purpose, but I do wonder what was meant by it. The sentence should either be removed or written in a way that makes sense. Controversy
[edit]I did a google search on "gumtree .tk" and "gumtree .tk spam" and I don't see any relevant results on the first page save this wikipedia article. I hope that should someone fail to include a cite for those statements they will be deleted as they are quite unencyclopedic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thane Eichenauer (talk • contribs) 20:48, 10 February 2008 (UTC) ♦

Is there an easy way to block the entire .tk domain?
[edit]My virus program finds a lot of malware from the .tk domain, and they still won't take down paid for domains that are known malware vendors. I'd like to just block the whole thing.
I tried .tk in my hosts file but that didn't work, and it doesn't take wildcards like *.tk
Oh, the malware was at www2.megosave2.tk and about a dozen other variants.
See http://hphosts.blogspot.com/2010/05/eset-star-wars-dottk-and-rogues.html
Tokelau has yet to take it down. Maybe next year after two million more exploit-affected machines. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.16.163.163 (talk) 21:40, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Just use my PAC filter at securemecca.com which has a built in block of the entire TK domain. Ignore my other comments. The TK domain people have quite a chore in keeping hacker abuse at bay and that is what they were doing. They have to periodically or constantly depending on your point of view come up with a new scheme to fight the hackers. It takes us malware blockers a little bit of time to figure it out some times. If your redirect doesn't go to malware then you should not be getting what you think is scammed. Their TOS explicitly states you can not use it for spam or redirects to malware. hhhobbit (talk) 07:25, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Uses frames for short urls
[edit]Dot tk uses frames for short urls and changes both the favicon and title of the site linked to. This promotes their site further and prevents short urls from being used on mobile sites even tho the site linked to might be a legit mobile site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by InSyda (talk • contribs) 22:17, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- No, the choice of frames is only a must for free registrations which chose not to provide e-mail addresses. -109.67.201.158 (talk) 12:59, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Scam?
[edit]Please do not add anything about .tk being a "scam" without reliable sources. This does not include blogs and forums.Jasper Deng (talk) 22:53, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
- Today .tk just de-registered my free domain from my profile, and put it out for sale as a paid domain, without any warning. I suppose they did it because I had increased the link value of "my" domain beyond a certain threshold over the past years. So it seems I've been doing voluntary work for them for many years, without even realizing it. I know about WP's NOR policy, so I'm not going to add anything to the article, but they certainly seem to behave like scammers. Starting to get fed up with the whole DNS circus. - Soulkeeper (talk) 16:08, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

The new Terms and Conditions document states, in 10.1. Minimum Use Requirements, "As of March 1st 2012, no minimum use requirements are enforced. As long as you renew your FREE DOMAIN in a timely manner, you may continue to use the FREE DOMAIN." This is currently not reported in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.59.65.119 (talk) 08:51, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Under the "Abuse" section, the following is written: ".tk domains logged 2533 of 11768 (~4.65%) total phishing attacks in the latter half of 2010 Internet-wide."
Unless I'm mistaken or there's missing information, 2533 of 11768 is around 21%. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.167.181.159 (talk) 00:00, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Please, remove "In order to ensure that names are being used, there is a minimum usage policy of 25 hits in 90 days" as this rule was removed on early 2012 by http://wiki.tk/25-unique-visitor-requirement-explained.
The only requirement on dot.tk is that the domain have a active website (http://www.dot.tk/en/dottk_pressrelease_12272011_en.pdf, first page, first paragraph of the "Safest domain extension" section).
Also remove "up to three domain names free of charge" because current Terms and Conditions (http://www.dot.tk/en/doc_tcfree_v360.pdf, on "Introduction", 5th line) say: "You have registered with us to receive from one (1) to an unlimited number of FREE internet domain names"
Also users can access their Domain Panel (http://my.dot.tk/cgi-bin/domainpanel.taloha) that says (sadly it requires a account): "Dot TK allows you to register an unlimited number of FREE domains and an unlimited number of PAID domain names." 189.10.35.121 (talk) 17:05, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
[edit]Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Cyberbot II has detected links on .tk which have been added to the blacklist, either globally or locally. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed or are highly inappropriate for Wikipedia. The addition will be logged at one of these locations: local or global If you believe the specific link should be exempt from the blacklist, you may request that it is white-listed. Alternatively, you may request that the link is removed from or altered on the blacklist locally or globally. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. Please do not remove the tag until the issue is resolved. You may set the invisible parameter to "true" whilst requests to white-list are being processed. Should you require any help with this process, please ask at the help desk.

Please fix "beforehand" usage
[edit]Could an established editor please fix the usage in the following opening sentence:
"...no beforehand warning is given."
Probably the preferred fix would be to use "advance" (not "advanced", of course!) instead of "beforehand":
"...no advance warning is given."
Alternatively, "beforehand" should simply be moved after the verb:
"...no warning is given beforehand."
