Non-free image use in article

[edit]

Non-free files such as File:Flag of the Bharatiya Janata Party.png are required to satisfy all 10 of the non-free content criteria listed at WP:NFCCP. One of these is WP:NFCC#10c which states that a speparate, specific non-free use rationale is required for each use of the file. Just because a non-free file has a non-free use rationale for use in another article does not mean the same rationale can be expanded to cover usage in this article as well. It is the responsibility of the editor wanting to use the non-free file in this particular article to provide a valid rationale for its use; otherwise, the file can be removed per WP:NFCCE. Another one of the non-free content criteria is WP:NFCC#8 which has to do with the context of the file (i.e., how it is being used). Per WP:NFC#Meeting the contextual significance criterion, this basically means that the using the file improves the reader's understanding to such a degree that removing the file would be detrimental to that understanding. Usage in tables and lists is generally not allowed per WP:NFTABLES and WP:NFLISTS because such usage tends to be more decorative than contextual. For example, there is no sourced discussion of "File:Flag of the Bharatiya Janata Party.png" anywhere in this article, and the file is primarily being in a decorative manner. In fact, there's no contextual need for any of the flags/symbols being used in this article in my opinion since nothing is gained from seeing these images and nothing is lost from not seeing them. There are Wikilinks to each party's stand-alone article where both its flag and symbol can be seen. Freely licensed images, however, are not subject to WP:NFCC so using them is determined through local consensus. Non-free images can be linked to like I've done above using the colon trick, but they cannot be displayed per NFCC. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:04, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

By-elections

[edit]

Can we please have an explanation for the 2016 by-elections. I know from the ECI list for the general election that the results for 2 constituencies were not declared - why? and why were there subsequently three by-elections (2 of which are indeed the ones undeclared earlier in the year). Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 10:07, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Sitush: There's an explanation below the main results table as to why elections in two constituencies - Aravakurichi and Thanjavur - were postponed. The third by-election, in Thirupparankundram was caused by the death of the sitting MP S. M. Seenivel shortly after the election.--Obi2canibe (talk) 12:00, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
D'oh! Thanks very much. I'm trying to tidy up quite a bit of the stuff relating to these elections. - Sitush (talk) 12:04, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
