No consensus. After much-extended time for discussion, there is a clear absence of consensus as to the proposed move. BD2412 T 18:46, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Athletic Bilbao BBilbao Athletic – Team is widely known as Bilbao Athletic, being also referred this way per the official web. MYS77 18:26, 6 August 2020 (UTC) Relisting. —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 09:00, 14 August 2020 (UTC)Relisting. —usernamekiran (talk) 04:52, 4 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GiantSnowman: Page was known as Bilbao Athletic until June 2012 when it was manually redirected, without consensus, to Athletic Bilbao B. The categories also use "Bilbao Athletic", as well the club's official website. A quick google search for "Bilbao Athletic" produces more than a million results, while "Athletic Bilbao B" produces something above 300,000. I think you might want to take these elements into account. MYS77 14:41, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The C&P move needs fixing, so the history is all in one place. But I still think that place should be Athletic Bilbao B. It makes it clear to a reader it is the B team to Athletic Bilbao. GiantSnowman 15:40, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose I find using the "B" term provides greater clarity than having the main team name reversed. I agree with what GiantSnowman said regarding confusion. RedPatchBoy (talk) 20:37, 10 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: there's an issue in this specific situation because of WP:COMMONNAME. Some reserve teams in Spain have different official names to the standard "B" suffix: Real Madrid-Castilla, Las Palmas Atlético, Sevilla Atlético, Betis Deportivo Balompié, Atlético Malagueño, Real Zaragoza Deportivo Aragón, Deportivo Fabril, Valencia-Mestalla, Atlético Levante, Elche Ilicitano and Real Valladolid Promesas, which are all named as such on Wikipedia (plus as always an exception to the rule, Rayo Cantabria, which according to RFEF is still known as Real Racing Club de Santander "B", go figure). Clearly, the team in question aren't on this list. However, their official name is Athletic Club "B", and the common name is Bilbao Athletic, so the Athletic Bilbao B name is an awkward mishmash based on the common name of the parent club. I would say that Athletic Club is definitely an ambiguous title in the English language so more useful for the main team to be 'Athletic Bilbao', but 'Athletic Club B' is less ambiguous; however, using that name removes the word 'Bilbao' which is not great, and I agree that Bilbao Athletic and Athletic Bilbao could be a confusing pair of titles. I really wish the club would rename it to something more unique like 'Bilbao AC' and have it made official with the federation. But in the absence of that external clarity and with all redirects at Bilbao Athletic already in place, i would have to vote soft oppose. Crowsus (talk) 14:17, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The present name is clearly more WP:RECOGNIZEable to English-language readers than the version with the words reversed. In fact, it could well be argued that Bilbao Athletic should point to Athletic Bilbao, and a hatnote would be appropriate from this article to the first-team one.  — Amakuru (talk) 12:15, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's nonsense (pointing to Athletic Bilbao), anyone typing in the term 'Bilbao Athletic' and expecting to get to the senior team is incorrect and needs to be educated on the subject, that takes two seconds reading the first line of the article which includes a link to the senior team if that's actually what they meant. Or maybe we should just redirect FC United of Manchester to Manchester United as well? Crowsus (talk) 08:50, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Misinformation

[edit]

Incorrect information is being provided about the team's real name, specifically in the Background section, where several false names are wrongly listed without any reference. Without a reference to support it, that section should be deleted.

In this case, the official name is Bilbao Athletic. I understand that in English it is more convenient to call it Athletic Club "B." I only ask that incorrect information not be posted and that it be specified that the official name is Bilbao Athletic, even though the title says Athletic Club "B." FC Barcelona Atlètic (FC Barcelona "B") and Sevilla Atlético (Sevilla CF "B") is named correctly in that article, why not here? Gabossi (talk) 17:21, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's called Athletic Bilbao B in English reliable sources, e.g. [1]...  — Amakuru (talk) 19:59, 26 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
