Comments without headers

[edit]

This article seems to read like a back-injury prevention guide, rather than an encyclopedia article. Perhaps some cleanup and editing is needed. Thoughts? --TeaDrinker 05:43, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You should say what OSHA is - we are not all Americans.

(Comment by other person)Also, is the statistic for the USA only? Please say so.

This article needs serious work

[edit]

This article does not cover the stated topic "back injury". It sahould begin with a general description of back injuries (types, casuses, general frequency of occurence, consequences, treatment, etc.). This is an odd article that does not deliver. I am not in a position to re-write this article as my background is weak on the subject but can someone please do a major re-write? Thanks, Hu Gadarn 19:27, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Why does this article simply talk about work-related injury? Aetherane 20:36, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Information issues

[edit]

Where is the information about back injuries?? All we have is the equations of how NOT to get hurt, where we should be getting what happens when you get hurt, and how it would happen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AJO191 (talkcontribs) 12:19, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiproject WAVE work plan revamp

[edit]

I agree with all the previous comments for improvement which date back over 10 years without much change. I plan on updating the headers per the manual of style, removing much of the information under the "Calculating...." and "Material..." headers, perform a literature review search of articles primarily from 2012-present, and potentially re-write most of the article. Tentative headers using the manual of style for medical signs and symptoms may include: Classification, Signs and symptoms, Causes, Diagnosis or Evaluation, Prevention, Treatment, Epidemiology, and References. More may be added depending on what is found during the literature review. I will update this work plan in the coming days/weeks. Please feel free to make any suggestions to the plan above; I would appreciate it. hbc2020 23:58, 31 July 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Holly.calderon (talkcontribs)

Update - Live re-written article

[edit]

I have uploaded from my sandbox the re-written article. This can be considered a first draft. After reviewing the literature and collecting a broader understanding of the subject, I decided to remove all of the original article except for the lead introduction. I agree with previous user comments observing the previous article version was more like a prevention manual than an introduction into the broader subject of "Back injury." As proposed in my above work plan, I added the sections according to the manual of style: Classification, Causes, Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention, Epidemiology, and References. I updated the article with an additional 23 references; most are peer-review articles, although some definitions were derived from what I believe to be reputable links (Mayo and Cleveland clinics, etc.). Please double-check my sources.

There have been no links yet performed. My next task will be to complete linking and consult with my advisor on content and style. Any suggestions in the interim would be appreciated. hbc2020 21:28, 8 August 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Holly.calderon (talkcontribs)

Review of Edits

[edit]

After reviewing this page I only have a few suggestions. In the "classification" section, it may be helpful for the reader if their were subheadings here to direct them to which classification system they should be looking at. I'm sure this is a personal preference thing but just wanted to mention it. Also, when you discuss a healthy diet as treatment, you could link this to the wikipedia page on "bone health" where there is a section discussing diet for bone maintenance. Lastly, for the non-conservative treatments, readers may be interested in the complications of these treatment options. Great job editing this page. This is a great wikipedia page with very straight forward information. I do agree with Jocelyn that the classification section could be broken up a little bit, even just using bullet points to separate the text might help. Adding a picture to the page could be beneficial, especially with the AO spine injury classification to give the reader a visual representation of what these injuries would look like. Lastly, performing a literature search to see if there are any new research methods for treatment being considered could be a good addition to the very end of the article. Great job! Nice job editing this page. I like the division between conservative and non-conservative treatments. Well referenced. Jemataoma (talk) 23:14, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for updating this article. Further updates could be made to the prevention section, including an image. The paragraph reads as a paragraph that jumps point to point.

This page is well sourced and is on the way to becoming a B rated article. A few more images, as well as adding non-US stats to the epidemiology section would help it get there. Mgiulietti (talk) 16:48, 23 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
