Article was overdue for an update

Marijuana is becoming big business in Canada as the legalization for recreational purposes will be finalized in 2017. Hence, it is also a hot topic.

CGC is the biggest player in this market and is also exporting cannabis to two other countries. It just announced a takeover of another major competitor. I have done the update with many citations from major Canadian news organizations. Peter K Burian (talk) 14:01, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

The article reads somewhat as a promotional piece.

Here are some examples:

Tweed name change

Hi Charlottethecat, I noticed that you remade the same edit claiming that Canopy is a separate company from Tweed. As per your own sources and your article text, Canopy is Tweed. It was just a name change. https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/tweed-marijuana-inc-renamed-canopy-growth-corporation-528475771.html Also, please note that even if Canopy was a separate company that came from Tweed (it isn't), that would mean that it was founded in 2015, not 2013, and that Canopy's relationship to Tweed and Tweed's founding by Chuck and Bruce would still be mentioned here (and would continue to be mentioned here even if Tweed had a separate article). e.g. You don't see separate articles for CanniMed and Prairie Plant Systems, because it's one corporate entity (even though those two actually are separate companies), and even if Prairie Plant Systems had a separate article created, their history would still be listed in a summarized form on CanniMed's page (including the founders and founding date). 72.143.55.131 (talk) 19:24, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Charlottethecat, please stop reverting edits without addressing the reasons your edits were reverted. Hi scope_creep. Per Charlottethecat's sources (and per Charlottethecat's chosen text), "Tweed was founded by Bruce Linton and Chuck Rifici in 2013, and renamed Canopy Growth Corporation in 2015.". That would mean that the company's founders (for the sidebar) are "Bruce Linton and Chuck Rifici" (as per Charlottethecat's text as of 14:18, 21 March 2019). If the company was refounded in 2015 (it wasn't, but even if it somehow was), then the founders list would need to be much larger, as it wasn't a one-man show by that point. 38.32.57.34 (talk) 18:58, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi scope_creep. Following up on this. I noticed that you removed some non-independent sources on the 16th (my preference is to keep primary sources for dates and supplement with independent sources in accordance with WP:PRIMARY, but I digress), but I believe the remaining sources still support the fact that Tweed was renamed to Canopy Growth (which continues to use the name Tweed as a subbrand), and that Canopy Growth (formerly known as Tweed) was founded in 2013 by Bruce Linton and Chuck Rifici.38.32.57.34 (talk) 22:32, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Yeah, as I mentioned, I was digressing a bit there. A source being primary doesn't make it non-reliable by itself (especially for basic data), but they definitely should be supported by independent sources whenever possible. My preference is to keep primary sources and supplement with independent sources (or at least tagging them that additional citations are needed with the third-party inline tag like this ), but replacing them outright works too. 38.32.57.34 (talk) 00:58, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I think Hiku Brands can be merged with the Canopy Growth Wikipedia page. Since acquiring the company, Canopy has seemingly wound Hiku and absorbed its brands. hiku.com now directs to Canopy Growth's website, and Canopy Growth lists brands gain through the Hiku acquisition alongside their other brands without mentioning Hiku. https://www.canopygrowth.com/brands/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bikebagel (talk • contribs) 23:34, 8 September 2019 (UTC)

Support With no possible future significant coverage, it clearly lacks standalone notability, so I'd support the merge closer to pick out which content is the best to merge into one or more sections of Canopy Growth in order to improve the one assuming article.
