Talk:Ego (game engine)
To anyone reading this with interest:
- I've have attempted to update the page to be accurate as I can make it, based on my knowledge of the EGO engine from being an employee of Codemasters.
- There appears to be an Internet consensus of what version of EGO shipped with what game this is largely incorrect. Codemasters don't state publicly the EGO version in their releases, other that to promote their EGO technology as a whole. There are currently two forks of EGO maintained by the company: EGO 1 and EGO 3 (EGO 2 was abandoned after F1 Racestars).
E.g. The Dirt and Grid games have so far been built using the EGO 1 fork (more recently referred to as EGO 1.5 since is radically different to the the original version of EGO from eleven years ago), while the F1 games from 2014 onwards have been built using the EGO 3 fork. Both forks share technology, and there is no mileage in assuming EGO 3 is more advanced that EGO 1. A good example would be Dirt 4's YOUR STAGE system, which is only available in EGO 1.
- Which EGO fork used depends upon what the requirements of the game are, not which team (Racing team, F1 team) is building the game.
- Presently there is someone reverting my changes back to the largely incorrect Internet consensus. I will check the page routinely and reapply my edits until this person gives up, or at least tries to engage with me.
- There is no EGO 4 yet.

- Obviously I have to take your word for it that you work(ed) for Codemasters. But seeing as none of the engine info was sourced I've had to remove it. I appreciate you trying to clean up the inaccuracies, but the best way forward is not to have it until its referenced. Which isn't going to happen if what you say about Codemasters not announcing version numbers is correct.- X201 (talk) 13:09, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
Fair enough on it being unreferenced - I would address that but there is literally no written material on the subject to link. People just infer, which is where the confusion started. For what it's worth, I'm this person [1] and use the same user handle everywhere. Cubusaddendum (talk) 15:01, 26 October 2017 (UTC)
