[edit]I've got an issue with this bit:
'Each village is a self supporting community, with a strong sense of security and belonging. Together, the villages circle a town centre which provides the cultural, commercial and recreational hub for the town.'
This reads more like an advert than anything. Is any of this article except for the first paragraph actually needed?

[edit]I have MAJOR ISSUES with much of this article, and I agree with Bird of Paradox. In my opinion, the tone is that of a real estate salesperson, ie someone with a vested interest. One hint of this is the distance from Perth CBD, "about 21km" (UDIA estimates 26km).
I have issues particularly with the section Natural Features - quote "A Flora to Fauna program was developed to encourage local fauna to breed and shelter in the area surrounding Ellenbrook following a reintroduction program." For starters, there is no such thing as a "Flora to Fauna" program, and if it's a typo it's referring to a style of garden, NOT a "reintroduction program". This sentence may be an incorrect reinterpretation of one of the UDIA "Special Features".
Secondly, the reference to Ellen Brook and Western Swamp Turtle is perhaps irrelevant, as both these are located in Upper Swan (ie east side of Great Northern Highway, and east of The Vines, therefore not part of Ellenbrook.)
The remainder of the Natural Features section was lifted verbatim from the UDIA link.
Lastly, the quote (from Villages and Shops)"Ellenbrook is centred on a commercial area called the Shops with shopping and entertainment attractions." The reality is that although entertainment attractions may be planned for this area, there are none at present.

village no 8
[edit]There's an 8th village now called Annie's Landing. I'd edit the article myself, but I'm horrible with wikipedia tables, somehow I always screw it up. And I have no idea where to find the names of the planner/designer.

History of the name
[edit]Knowing nothing about this, it seems reasonable that the "Ellen" derives from the Ellen described. However, doesn't the entire name "Ellenbrook" derive from ""Ellen Brook", the tributary of the Swan River, which passes throgh this suburb (mapped at https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/591095969#map=16/-31.7810/116.0126&layers=H )? MargaretRDonald (talk) 21:55, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- Per Landgate, "The suburb is named after the Ellen Brook, a tributary of the Swan River, which forms part of its Eastern boundary. Ellen Brook is named after Ellen Stirling, the wife of the colony's first Governor, James Stirling." You're both right. The Drover's Wife (talk) 22:53, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks@The Drover's Wife:. I believed that this was probably the case. I have now amended the article accordingly. MargaretRDonald (talk) 01:18, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Original research - suburb boundaries
[edit]It appears that the Ellenbrook suburb (and its neighbours) went through an unusual amount of constant boundary changes between 2006 and 2021. The ABS QuickStats pages show this for each of their census years:
- 2006[1]
- The Vines 2006 was much larger than it is now, including the Ellenbrook villages of Lexia & Annie's Landing and the eastern side of the Maralla Road Bush Forever reserve
- Ellenbrook 2006 includes all of Aveley and all of the western side of the Maralla Road Bush Forever reserve, giving it a fat/wide shape
- Bullsbrook 2006 includes all of what would later become the locality of Melaleuca, which doesn't exist at this stage
- 2011[2]
- Ellenbrook 2011 loses all of Aveley to the new Aveley 2011 suburb, including the Ellenbrook District Centre area, giving Ellenbrook a skinny, pint glass-looking shape
- The Vines 2011 loses the Equis Lake area to Upper Swan 2011(!)
- Bullsbrook 2011 loses the Ellen Brook Nature Reserve to Upper Swan 2011, and all of the Melaleuca Park Bush Forever reserve to the new Melaleuca 2011 locality
- Lexia disappears entirely and becomes part of the new Melaleuca 2011 locality
- 2016[3]
- Ellenbrook 2016 gains back part of (but not all of) the District Centre area from Aveley
- The Vines 2016 loses Annie's Landing, Lexia, the Maralla Road Bush Forever reserve, Wedgewood Grove and Ellenbrook Hole 5 of The Vines golf course(!) to Ellenbrook 2016, turning Ellenbrook 2016 into a handgun shape
- Interestingly, the handgun actually matches the original boundaries of the Ellenbrook joint venture's defined project area from 1992
- The Vines 2016 regains Equis Lake from Upper Swan 2016, after previously losing it in 2011(!?)
- The boundary here is now an ugly square cut-out, instead of following the line of the Ellen Brook as it used to
- Aveley 2016 loses the Lake Yakine Bush Forever area in the south-east to Henley Brook 2016
- Lexia 2016 reappears after previously becoming part of Melaleuca 2011(!?)
- 2021[4]
- Ellenbrook 2021 loses everything west of Tonkin Highway to Melaleuca 2021, turning Ellenbrook into a boomerang shape
- The Vines 2021 regains Ellenbrook Hole 5 on the golf course
Neither Landgate, the WA Government Gazette nor the City of Swan offer any context or reference whatsoever re: these changes on their respective websites. In fact, suburb/locality changes don't appear to be in the public record at all.
Ultimately, it's inconsequential to the larger Ellenbrook article's narrative, and probably considered un-notable, eccentric minutae, so I'll just leave it here. Hope you enjoyed reading this useless trivia... Outrune (talk) 00:22, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
