Hampshire's birthdate

[edit]

That birthdate seems to be the only available one, but I find two years: 1979 and 1981. Around 200,000 google hits for both. 82.141.65.143 (talk) 01:19, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Several sources, Google[1] included, seems to be sure her birthday is 29 August 1981. I'm not sure what sources Wikipedia would trust though?! - Kmilling, 19 April 2020
A "Google search" is absolutely not a WP:RS. Neither is IMDb. As per WP:BLPPRIVACY, there are only two acceptable options: 1) a truly reliable Secondary source, e.g. something like People magazine or Los Angeles Times (and preferably multiple of these), reporting her exact DOB, or 2) a social media post from Hampshire herself, where she confirms her birthdate (and preferably either her age or YOB in the same post as well). Failing either of those, it need to be kept out. Right now, we do have a source that confirms "an age as of a date", so that will have to do until a better source is found. --IJBall (contribstalk) 20:20, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Best known for

[edit]

Can we get a source for why these two films deserve the distinction? Never heard of them. I know her because of Twelve Monkeys and Schitt's Creek. Recurring roles on popular shows are often more memorable than some throwaway films. Ranze (talk) 16:04, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ranze: Good catch – I've added the TV series roles to the lede. In terms of which movies to include in the lede – that's more of a judgment call. The lede is supposed to "summarize" the important roles. In terms of Hampshire's movie roles, it's probably hard to "rank" them. I think keeping Snow Cake in the lede is justifiable because one of the Variety sources specifically mentions her in relation to that film. I'm not sure about Boy Meets Girl. Other films that could/should potentially be mentioned in place of the latter are The Trotsky, Cosmopolis, and/or My Awkward Sexual Adventure. I'll leave that call to other editors... --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:23, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

sexual orientation notability

[edit]

If the only verifiable reference to Hampshire's sexual orientation is from her own Instagram post, is it notable enough to include in this article? NewkirkPlaza (talk) 01:24, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. Likely needs a secondary source, or it's probably WP:UNDUE. --IJBall (contribstalk) 01:33, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus for the birth year

[edit]

I removed the birth year as there are articles that contradict each other and hoping to reach a consensus. The recent source that was reffed was an article published a couple months ago and said she was 42. However this one[2] which was up beforehand is an article published in October of 2009 and talks about how she just turned 30 and that she's three years older than Jay Baruchel(born 1982) which implies a 1979 birth year.

And in this article she says that she doesn't wish to be in her 20s again and in your 30s, you start to know who you are. The edit summary for removing the October 2009 article was because the other one was more up to date. However that doesn't necessarily mean that one is accurate. For instance, before Rebel Wilson became more well known, the Sydney Morning Herald published an article about her in 2002 and actually had the correct age. Then once she became more well known, websites(including the SMH) were publishing the incorrect age. Kcj5062 (talk) 08:21, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just found a IMDB listing of her from 2005 that lists her birth year as 1979.[3] Jaydoggmarco (talk) 07:53, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB is user generated though. So it's not a reliable source.Kcj5062 (talk) 10:52, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kcj5062, I found these sources on newspapers.com, the latter one you already have above, but this is the print version in case anyone doubts the publication date:
On December 18, 1999, the National Post:

Emily Hampshire, actor Emily Hampshire is only 20 and already has an impressive track record.

On October 03, 2009, The Toronto Star, article titled "'Commie comedy star', 30, plays older woman":

Hampshire just turned 30 and is comfy in her perfect porcelain skin. "I don't wish to be in my 20s ever again," she insists. "In your 30s, you start to know who you are."

Daniel Quinlan (talk) 12:03, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Daniel Quinlan Interesting. Didn't know about the 1999 newspaper. Thanks. As mentioned above this is looking like another Rebel Wilson situation. Where early articles put down ages that match up to one birth year and later articles put down ages that match up to a later birth year. If there's any other articles about Hampshire that were published in the late 90s to early 00s, I'd be very surprised if any of them actually supported the 1981 birth year. As those were times when journalists were less likely to copy information from internet websites. Kcj5062 (talk) 13:11, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When you see two birth years for an actress, always assume the older one is correct 2600:8800:218F:2D00:EDC8:3A3C:75AA:967 (talk) 01:08, 7 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
