Eriol's Magic
As you can see, I have added a section for Eriol's magic/power since it's significant that his magic draws energy from Darkness in his reincarnated form, whereas it used to be the sun energies when he was Clow Reed. --Charizardpal 16:19, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Error
I notice that there's a line in this article in the section about Eriol's magic that contains some inaccurate information:
"[Eriol] mentions that he draws his power from Darkness. This is interesting since his previous form drew it's energy from the Sun."
This is incorrect; Clow (Eriol's "previous form") also drew power from darkness. It is said in the series that both Clow and his successor Sakura's magic is celestial in its source. As Mizuki puts it, their power is a "balance between Sun and Moon power." (Vol.6, ch.4, pg.38) Because their power is not so simple as being of the sun or of the moon it is described as being in Sakura's case, Star power, and in Clow and Eriol's case, the Power of Darkness. I short, Clow's power is NOT of the sun, but also of darkness like Eriol’s, and thus this line about Eriol's magic should be deleted, as it is inaccurate. I'm planning on deleting it unless anyone can give me a good reason not to in the near future. 3loodlust (talk) 00:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
My Edits

Hey everyone,
I did quite a bit of editing on this page, mainly to tidy up. The majority of my edits were just rewording some long or awkward sentences into what I hope are neater sentences. To do this, I had to remove some information that I thought was either irrelevant or unnecessary.
Some reasoning for me removing information:
- Eriol's power edit: This was all completely inaccurate as both Clow and Eriol drew their power from the moon, not the sun. I also added a little bit of info I thought was relevant (re: premonitions and the power split).
- I changed the wording of the second trivia point (ie. the point about "Eriol Academy" as I don't recall there being any explicit references to it being named after Eriol.
- I removed the 3rd trivia point as I think it's subjective and irrelevant (a lot of CLAMP characters do look alike after all). So unless there is anything particularly relevant to the story of both comics about their similarity (eg. Wantanuki is really Clow and Yuko's secret love child) I don't think that it's necessary.
- I cut the part about Yue from the anime conclusion as I didn't really think that it was a major enough change from the manga to warrant a mention.
Anyway, I hope I've helped out on this article - if you have a good reason for changing anything (particularly details about the anime - I haven't seen it in a while) feel free to do so. David-Ryan (talk) 12:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- There's just one thing that I think should be added in the section about Eriol's power. It really should be stated that his power is of darkness, the same as Clow's. It's an important detail that apparently many people don't know, and it is stated word for word in the manga, so backing it up should be no problem. Also, you should consider re-adding the bit about Eriol's similarity to Minoru of Chobits, because in many ways, the character of Minoru is paralleled to Eriol, not just in appearance. 3loodlust (talk) 18:23, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
- I agree it's important, although I thought that the manga referred to the cosmic bodies (such as sun, moon and stars) rather than "light" and "darkness". I have the Tokyopop versions of the manga though, so it could just be a translational difference? I don't think it makes too much of a difference, but it's more the connotations that "darkness" has that doesn't seem to fit Eriol and Clow's powers.
- Even in the Tokyopop versions, I think it mentions a little about Clow and Eriol's power. Eriol says in volume 12, for example that his power is of darkness, like Sakura's power is of the stars. I also think the Tokyopop version keep the spell for releasing the staff the same, saying "Key which hides the power of darkness...". That's a direct reference to Clow's power, since Cerberus even says that when she uses the staff and cards, Sakura is using Clow Reeds magic. When Sakura transforms her staff under her own power, she has to change her chant to "key which hides the power of the stars...". I think all of that should be in the Tokyopop additions, correct me if I'm wrong. 3loodlust (talk) 22:01, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- I haven't read much of Chobits, so I can't say whether or not Minoru is similar - however I think unless the resemblance is either A) ridiculously obvious, B) relevant to the storyline or C) intentional on the part of Clamp that it probably doesn't deserve a mention in an authoritative article. But I'll leave it up to you if you want to put it back in, it's not really a big deal for me. 121.208.210.146 (talk) 01:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
