Assessment
[edit]Overall, I think your article addresses an important issue. You would benefit from linking to multiple other pages, and your page is very well designed to link to others. There may be a reason why certain sections are empty, but definitely fill those out when you can. Also, consider collapsing some of your smaller headers if things can fit together a little easier.Ensquared (talk) 05:35, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
I think your article is definitely on a good track! The main issues that I noticed were formatting/logistical ones: some sentences/claims were awkwardly located or possibly redundant so I would pay attention to that. Placing links to your articles from other articles would definitely increase traffic too. Vnguyen518 (talk) 14:58, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Lnicholson14 Your article is definitely progressing well! I think one piece of information that could add a lot to the content of the article is women's rights that are guaranteed in the Sri Lankan Constitution. Then, you could differentiate between what is protected by law and what is actually practiced in Sri Lanka. Your article currently attempts to cover a large amount of content, so I would suggest now focusing on improving the depth of the content. I would suggest keeping sections that are currently less developed in your sandbox until they have more substance to avoid distracting from the more comprehensive sections of your article. There are also a few proofreading errors that I would suggest correcting. I like your addition of illustrations and think they add greatly to the content of the article. Overall, great progress! I look forward to reading the final product later.Jwang19 (talk) 17:27, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
Lnicholson14 You chose an interesting and important topic. Under “Marriage and Property Rights”, you may consider explaining the general laws of Sri Lanka about property rights. In the “Son Preference” subsection, you could elaborate more on sex selection. Overall, maybe you could elaborate more. Again, the content that you have is great. Also, you have a high number of sources, which is great! I would just suggest that you ensure that all of your sources are current. Also, it is great that you included many citations throughout you article. I would suggest that you include a citation after the first sentence under marriage and property rights. It might be good to do that because you have a quote in that sentence. Overall, you did a good job! Also, you are quite neutral! Your article was quite readable. I would just suggest that you ensure that you look out for typos, such as with spaces between words. Additionally, your article is quite well formatted. I would only suggest taking down the “Gender Statistics” heading if you are not allowed to add the table. Also, I really liked the illustrations that you included! A few comments
[edit]This is a nice and well-organized contribution. You've done a good job putting a structure in place for the article. However, I do have a few comments and suggestions. There are a number of sections which have no content in them, and the gender statistics section looks incomplete. The table in the Global rankings section also appears either incomplete or incorrectly formatted. If you can fill out these sections and address the formatting issues, your contribution will be much improved. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any help with anything. This link is relevant here, as it shows gender violence related to gender inequality perpetrated by Sri Lankans. That it happened abroad does not matter, this is on-topic as the perpatrators were Sri Lankans. Gender-related violence related to gender inequality has no borders. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:45, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
Essay-like content
[edit]While I think the article is generally well written, there are certain instances where it sounds like a personal essay. Take for example, under Political participation, where it says: While historically Sri Lanka has been very progressive when it comes to women's participation, there are still many gains they can make before they reach gender equality
and Sri Lanka prides itself in having an elected the first female prime minister in the world
. I do not believe this phraseology is suitable for an encyclopedia. To me, the phrase "Sri Lanka prides itself" sounds like an editorialization. And, to be honest, "there are still many gains they can make before they reach gender equality" sounds like the conclusion of an essay. I suggest rewording/combining both sentences to say something like: Having elected the world's first female head of state, Sri Lanka has been noticeably progressive when it comes to women's participation.
. Note that, under History, it already states Sri Lanka elected Sirimavo Bandaranaike, the world's first female head of state..
; therefore, we can assume that the reader is already familiar with the fact by the time they get to Political participation section. While I could have straightforwardly done so myself, I decided to gain consensus first as I haven't made any significant contribution to the article. -- ChamithN (talk) 12:11, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- Also a lack of NPOV, especially in the reproductive rights section. Jmaranvi (talk) 21:33, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
The article should mention at least something here. It is common sense to assume that like in most countries prostitution is heavily affected by gender inequality. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:20, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
I want to write about Third Gender in this section
[edit]I am doing some writings for the sexual minority community and I want to add information about third gendered people, but I am unsure about how the original writers would want such information to be placed. Hindianu (talk) 12:03, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
