Conflict of interest edit
[edit]I shall move unreferenced content added by the subject himself to here. I've left a message about conflict of interest editing on the user's talk page:
- Dr Shearer left Wellington in 1984 after the Election and moved to Auckland. He remarried in 1986 to Cheryl Rushworth and they have no children.
- From March 1994 to January 2005, Dr Shearer was Research Manager, and acting Director of the Waitangi Tribunal. He served as a public servant for just on forty years. Dr Shearer retired to Taneatua in 2005 where he finished the writing of his autobiography ‘The Boy From The Bay’ and then proceeded to complete a History of Whakatāne Hospital, the History of a local family ‘Owhakatoro - From Clydesdales to Computers; ‘A Century on Cameron Road’ the history of Tauranga Hospital and then ‘The Shearer’s of Okaiawa - history of the Shearer family from 1733 to the present day. Dr Shearer currently lives in Whakatāne and is writing a book about his two trips to Antarctica and continuing recording the history of people and places.
I'm sure that some of this could be referenced by publicly available sources. Schwede66 09:30, 10 March 2020 (UTC)

- Thank you for your email information.
- We consider it was entirely appropriate for us to update the Wikipedia item on Dr the Hon Ian Shearer - if we had been able to work out how to do it we would have added a photograph as well.

- @DrHonIanShearer: Well, Wikipedia is a strange thing. Full of bizarre rules and regulations. Have you read the link that I posted onto your talk page? Here's the link again: Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with close associations. The relevant bit reads: "Don't edit articles related to your associations, rather make suggestions on the article's talk pages." The rules are clear; you cannot edit your own article. That's why I've shifted your contribution to this talk page. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and what we need are independent and reliable sources that go with any additions (yes, "your word" isn't good enough, as strange as it may sound). With regards to a photo, I can help. But give me a few days; work's keeping me a bit busy at present. Schwede66 18:23, 10 March 2020 (UTC)
