  • The body does not say that Schuler was a Maryland artist. (isn't Beecher also from Maryland?)

History

[edit]
  • Buchanan served as U.S. Minister to Russia from 1832–1833. I think this should be changed to Buchanan served as U.S. Minister to Russia from 1832 to 1833.

  • He served in that role until 1849 and was chosen to be Minister to the United Kingdom. I think the year he was appointed Minister to the United Kingdom should be added.

  • and since Buchanan was a bachelor. Suggest changing to and as Buchanan was a bachelor, otherwise it could be interpreted to mean "after Buchanan was a bachelor".

  • I think Harriet Lane's death year should be mentioned. Also that the 15 year deadline was almost reached (which is explicitly said in sources 8 and 10).

  • In January 1916, Senator Blair Lee I introduced a joint resolution to erect a memorial to Buchanan. I think this sentence would better fit on the front of the subsequent paragraph as the second paragraph focuses on 1916 but the first paragraph does not.

  • Due to the bureaucratic debates about the memorial. Should be changed to Due to bureaucratic debates about the memorial seeing as this is the first mention of any bureaucratic debates.

  • Would the first paragraph under later history fit better in the location and design section?

 Done APK hi :-) (talk) 02:49, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • the statue was delivered to Washington, D.C. Change to the main statue was delivered to Washington, D.C. to not confuse with the other two statues. Also, are there any details on the other two statues. Where they designed and built by the same two people as the main statue?

Location and design

[edit]
  • The statue of Buchannan is bronze, but has faded to green due to patina. The closest street intersection is 15th and W Streets NW and the memorial is to the right when entering the park from the south. The statue on each end of the memorial are granite, and the base is Milfor pink marble. I think these sentences should be reordered as follows: The closest street intersection is 15th and W Streets NW and the memorial is to the right when entering the park from the south. The statue of Buchannan is bronze, but has faded to green due to patina. The statue on each end of the memorial are granite, and the base is Milfor pink marble. This would put the sentences describing the statues next to each other and the sentences describing the location next to each other.

  • The lead says that some of the engraved text includes a quote by Jeremiah S. Black, but this is not stated in the body.

Done APK hi :-) (talk) 03:11, 22 November 2024 (UTC) Overall this is a well written article. I will do a source review tomorrow. Steelkamp (talk) 16:20, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Buchanan was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1834 and served until 1845 when he was chosen to be U.S. Secretary of State. He served in that role until 1849 and was chosen to be Minister to the United Kingdom. This part isn't supported by the source.

  • The memorial is a contributing property to the Meridian Hill Park Historic District, a National Historic Landmark. The historic district was listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites on November 8, 1964, and the National Register of Historic Places on October 25, 1974. It seems to me that it should be mentioned that the park was made a National Historic Landmark on April 19, 1994.
