Is he now British?

[edit]

Why is he included in the category British Composers? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweetie candykim (talkcontribs) 13:02, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

This page has been listed at WP:CP because of the substantial similarity of the content to the webpage of the composer. Since the contributor, Maffal, wasn't notified, I'd normally relist it for another week. However, unless I've missed something, I don't think it's necessary here: the copyvio claim can't be substantiated on the evidence we have. My thoughts:

  • the content was created in 2007
  • the page history shows the normal evolution of an article, with progressive small changes to the text
  • Ching's present website, jching.com, was not registered until 2011
  • his previous website has only been archived once, in 2013, and didn't have this content
  • while the content may originally have come from a concert programme or something similar, it appears to have been developed here and then used on the website.

I've removed the copyvio template.

That leaves the question of what to do about the article, which appears to the work of a dedicated WP:SPA who's also written about Ching's compositions and Ching's wife, and nothing else, raising a strong possibility of conflict of interest; I might invite comment on the whole picture at WP:COINSmerus, Michael Bednarek, any thoughts? Meanwhile, I suggest that the previous unsourced text should not be restored to the page without references – obviously the WP:BLP violations must not be. He seems to be notable: he's not in Grove, but this article in the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik is about him, and it looks as there may be other coverage. I've made what I hope is a reasonable – but very small – start on an encyclopaedia article. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 08:18, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
