Proposed merge

[edit]

The subject of Fenway South is not independent of JetBlue Park at Fenway South. There is nothing to this facility other than the park. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:51, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to disagree with you, but 'JetBlue Park' is just a part of Fenway South, being the name of the match field. The latter name refers to the whole development, which includes multiple ball fields, training and player development facilities, etc. I quote from redsox.com (their official website)
Fenway South will provide state-of-the-art training facilities positioned on a single site and is intended to be used year-round. It will include JetBlue Park, the main ballpark with a total capacity of approximately 11,000 fans (including standing room and berm), six practice fields, and other adjoining facilities that will house both the Major and Minor League operations and a rehabilitation center.
You will note the word "include" there, differentiating the grapefruit league field from the remainder of the facilities. Thus these are definitely two different articles here, albeit both worthy of expansion as the teams (RedSox and affiliates) settle in, after all it only opened today! --AlisonW (talk) 23:06, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So Fenway South is comprised of JetBlue Park and a few practice fields and training facilities? Why then does it require two articles? Clearly the majority of the complex is the main stadium, and there are some other ancillary items that aren't independently notable. George M. Steinbrenner Field is part of a complex as well, [http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/spring_training/ballpark.jsp?c_id=nyy you can see there are practice fields and the like, but the complex doesn't have its own article because it doesn't deserve one. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:47, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can certainly see your point, and my initial interest was piqued by the naming of "JetBlue Park at Fenway South" using both names in the title. Checking showed that the RedSox consider the two - 'JetBlue Park' and 'Fenway South' - as separate because, unlike the previous City of Palms park, Fenway South's facilities will be used (a) year-round, and (b) also by the minor-league affiliates of the RedSox, whereas 'JetBlue' is (so far as announced to date) for the RedSox only. The Complex has been given one name, the 'show' ballpark another, hence two articles. It isn't the way the Yankees do it but it is the way the Red Sox are trying out from today, so how about we reconsider things at the end of the month when more information about planned use patterns, etc. will have been announced. --AlisonW (talk) 23:54, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I draw comparisons here to the Braves' way of doing things. There are two separate articles for the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and Champion Stadium, which is in that complex. Granted the ESPN complex is far larger than Fenway South and has many more attractions than just the main ballpark, but I feel this may be of use in this discussion. From statements during the opening few days, there are big plans for the former swamp area in and around the 'Fenway South' area, including hotels and additional facilities. I'm sure they will be documentable within the next month or so. --AlisonW (talk) 14:12, 5 March 2012‎ (UTC)[reply]
I just reverted the recent merge as this was done without a decision here to do so. -AlisonW (talk) 19:53, 13 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Upper or lower case "jet"

[edit]

I notice the title of the article has lowercase "jetBlue", with uppercase "JetBlue" throughout the content. In this revision: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=JetBlue_Park_at_Fenway_South&oldid=506876623, edits were made to change it from lowercase "jetBlue" to uppercase "JetBlue" without comment. I see from the JetBlue page on wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JetBlue, that the company name is uppercase, but the logo is lowercase. Which syntax is correct? goodeye (talk) 00:18, 1 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article name

[edit]

A short note to solicit input from other editors about the name of this article. Two items:

1) Should "at Fenway South" really be part of the article name? The ballpark in question is JetBlue (or jetBlue) Park, which is located at the Fenway South complex, which has its own article (a prior point of discussion, above).

2) Should the article name start with a lower-case 'j' or an upper-case 'J'? The airline for which the ballpark is named is JetBlue, which uses "jetBlue" as branding (note that the page about the airline is not jetBlue, although such a link does work). I also see "JetBlue Park" used consistently in news articles about the ballpark, I do not see it written as "jetBlue Park". The capitalization question was previously raised, above, but did not get input.

My inclination would be rename this article from jetBlue Park at Fenway South to JetBlue Park, which reflects common usage. I'm also interested in input from other editors such as @Muboshgu. Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 03:12, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in favor of dropping "at Fenway South" from the article's name but don't have a preference as to whether it should start with j or J. Guess you have until spring training 2021 to reach a consensus on that! Waz8:T-C-E 23:52, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with dropping the "Fenway South". – Muboshgu (talk) 18:29, 19 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Change made. Turns out the "jetBlue" (rather than "JetBlue") is forced via a "lowercase title" template/directive in the page itself. I've removed that directive; could be restored if needed. Thanks. Dmoore5556 (talk) 22:50, 23 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Revisiting merger idea

[edit]

Let's be frank, in the ten years since this article was set up as separate, there is zero to indicate independent notability for the ballpark and the surrounding practice fields. Just like every other spring training complex. The claims that this was different because of the year-round use is nonsense. All spring training complexes are year-round in use thanks to extended spring training, the Florida State League, the Rookie leagues, the Arizona Fall League, and off-season instructional leagues. The name is meaningless, too, as the whole "Fenway South" thing is just branding mean to tie the spring training complex to the parent club's famed ballpark in Boston without giving up the money from selling naming rights. It doesn't indicate two separate places with separate notability. There's nothing unique about this spring training complex that deserves two separate articles. None of the other MLB complexes have two articles. This one shouldn't either. oknazevad (talk) 03:32, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

So which one do you propose should remain, JetBlue Park or Fenway South? -- Pemilligan (talk) 00:40, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
JetBlue Park. All the other spring training site articles are principally about and named for the main ballpark. Though I would have no objection to moving it back to the longer "JetBlue Park at Fenway South" name. And of course redirects would remain. oknazevad (talk) 02:51, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
