Article Inconsistencies
[edit]- In comparing this Wiki article with the one on brother Clarence, several glaring errors and inconsistencies, including birthplace and number of children in the family are noted. Article needs a massive re-work and source verification. Edit Centric talk 16:59, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
Cells in Alcatraz
[edit]- There were only single cells in Alcatraz. The article wrongly says that the Anglin brothers shared a cell. They may have been in adjacent cells.
Further info about cells
[edit]- http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/factsnfig.htm notes that there was only one person per cell in Alcatraz.
Still further info about cells
[edit]- http://www.alcatrazhistory.com/alcesc1.htm notes that the Anglin brothers were in adjacent cells.
The last half of this article repeats info about the escape that is better expressed in other articles. Jlygrnmigt 00:45, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Both brothers
[edit]Both the Anglin brothers have had numerous dates and even places of birth given. One brother is said to have been born on five different days. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.41.51.240 (talk) 14:02, 23 December 2008 (UTC) See http://foia.fbi.gov/alcatraz/alcatr1.pdf —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.158.207.21 (talk) 15:31, 23 December 2008 (UTC) Donalsonville and Colquitt, which are about 10 miles apart, have both been mentioned as the place of birth. Both towns are in Georgia.

John was born on May 2, 1930 and stood at 5'10 and weighed 140 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes and had a ruddy complexion with several scars on his face and body.
I suspect his mother must've been torn apart giving birth to this huge baby. He was very large as a baby, how big did he grow??? Did the doctor cause his scars with forceps or what?
Done, and added the source. It's good information, just worded badly. Krashlandon (talk) 23:10, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
New photo
[edit]See the talk page of the article on Morris for another photo of John Anglin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.164.112.106 (talk) 14:09, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Illegal boat in the bay
[edit]The article says, "... there was an illegal boat in the bay ...". What is this supposed to mean? It's San Francisco Bay. It's full of boats and ships. What would make any particular boat "illegal"? — QuicksilverT @ 02:21, 17 March 2014 (UTC)
- Possibly the writer meant that the boat itself was in existence legally, but was planning to take illegal action. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.143.11.130 (talk) 16:48, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
Proposed merge with Clarence Anglin

They are not individually notable, but they might be notable as brother duo of the Alcatraz gang escaping from prison. Should be either "John and Clarence Anglin" or "Clarence and John Anglin". George Ho (talk) 22:44, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
- Frank Morris (the third prisoner who escaped with them) has his own article. No reason why the Anglin brothers can't have their own individual articles. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 04:28, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- I know that. Look at each article; content looks almost the same, aren't they? --George Ho (talk) 04:30, 13 October 2015 (UTC)
- Support merge to John and Clarence Anglin; John first because he is the oldest. The articles are virtually identical and it is impossible to discuss improvements to one article without discussing the other. An argument could be made that the recent claims of the Anglins' nephews over the past few years distinguishes John and Clarence from Morris and West. My first preference would be to merge/redirect all four (including West) back to June 1962 Alcatraz escape given the redundancies among all of them. - Location (talk) 00:06, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
- Merge -- is a notable event and they are both notable. I think it makes more sense to merge them given the historical context of the escape. 97.126.235.119 (talk) 19:13, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, Writing In Regards To Your Proposal Of The Alcatraz Escapees, I Definitely THink Article Should Be Merged, And Show Both Pictures On The One Page, As The Articles Are Far To Long Reading One And Then The Other, When There Is To Much Similarities, Maybe The Title Just THE ANGLIN BROTHERS — Preceding unsigned comment added by 1.43.200.149 (talk • contribs)
- Moved from my user and then user talk pages. George Ho (talk) 01:42, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
- Merge both Anglin articles and Frank Morris article with June 1962 Alcatraz escape. Neither the Anglins nor Morris have notability outside of the one event. It is the event that is noted far more than the individuals. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 04:53, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
History Channel documentary in the lede section
[edit]We can't use the History Channel documentary on the lede; it gives misassumptions to readers. --George Ho (talk) 23:47, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
- Is your belief we can't use it based on policy? -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 23:56, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
- What about MOS:LEAD, a guideline? Also, WP:UNDUE? George Ho (talk) 00:26, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- Almost forgot, MOS:BIO. --George Ho (talk) 00:28, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- Ok. All valid (my concern was that you were basing your comments above on personal opinion alone). I agree that it can be pared down, however, I don't agree that it should be excluded in its entirety from the lede. -- WV ● ✉ ✓ 01:27, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- Can you pare it down? --George Ho (talk) 04:18, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

- I agree that it's undue weight in the article's lede. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 01:11, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
