[edit]Only people with business at the base may use the station... does this imply that the guard will require identification before stopping the train? Is the guard the first line of defence of the base... 82.10.108.49 (talk) 23:34, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- The station is owned by Network Rail and the Ministry of Defence cannot prevent passengers from alighting there. The Ministry of Defence have accepted this through this FOI request but the only access to the station is from the camp via a guarded entrance. Rail enthusiasts could theoretically stand on the platform without any retribution from the Ministry of Defence. Martin H. Heron (talk) 21:48, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- You can access the station from the Exe Trail. I have done so.Railwayfan2005 (talk) 22:15, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- A video by Geoff Marshall on YouTube shows that you can now get off of trains and onto the Exe Trail without MoD permission (YouTube Link). Bthrussell (talk) 16:26, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
- Additional Geoff Marshall video showing that the section regarding access may be incorrect: (YouTube Link). R4000 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.9.66.153 (talk) 17:49, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Exe Estuary Trail
[edit]Recent edits imply that the station has, or soon will have, public access from the Exe Estuary Trail; but AFAIK, Network Rail still state "The station only provides access to the adjacent military base".
A ref has been provided, however that ref is the front page of a website which does not of itself support either "The opening of the Exe Estuary Trail has lead to public access being made available" or "The Exe Trail now runs between the platform and the boundary of the base providing an means of public access". If this info is on a sub-page within that website, that subpage is the one which should be linked, not the front page. --Redrose64 (talk) 23:17, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- File:Lympstone Commando 142001 142063.jpg was taken from the Exe Valley Trail - it was open from Exmouth to Exton at the time. Although the station is on one side of the trail and the camp on the other, there was still no public access; the gate was unlocked by the camp guard when the train a approached. - It's not my photograph; I extracted it from the article but the description here reflects what I have observed. If you can find a good source for the article (either to prove that it is now open for general use, or not), then it would be most appreciated. Geof Sheppard (talk) 13:59, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
- I have used the station to access the Trail, and walked up to Exton to catch the train back to Exeter. However citing this would constitute original research. It's reasonably clear from MAGIC that the cycle path runs between the railway line and the base.Railwayfan2005 (talk) 21:36, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
