Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) technically isn't signed to the label "Bad Boy" anymore; as of 2014 Bad Boy is no longer a label. On January 12, 2015 MGK announced (via instagram and twitter) that he landed a role in the new television series Roadies which will premier on Showtime in 2015, therefore that should be added to the "Filmography" section. Other than filmography, the "2013- present" category needs to be updated. Since his last mixtape he has released three singles: Sail, Wanna ball, and his latest, Till I Die. MGK's "MTV Europe Music Award for Best US Act" and his EMA for "U.S. Artist about to go Global" should be added under "Awards" category as well.

Other than information needing to be updated some of the material needs to have references. For example, in the "Personal life" category there is a quote, ""Not long after, an 18 year-old MGK welcomed his own child, a daughter named Casie. The infant gave the rapper new incentive to work even harder."" however, there is no source after the quote. Basically readers aren't able to distinguish where the quote came from, making it unreliable. Throughout the different sections MGK is referred to by different names (Kells, Kelly, MGK, Machine Gun Kelly, or Baker). I think he should be referred to as one name throughout the entire article. Unless you're a fan you probably wouldn't know what the article meant when it refers to him as "Kells" so that should be changed to eliminate confusion.

Notable?

Is this guy anywhere near notable enough to be given an article? He's done some mix tapes and a full album hasn't even been released yet. He's most known for a flashmob stunt at a mall. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.49.19.28 (talk) 21:41, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

He's beyond notable. He deserves a bigger article than this.

Since his Verizon commercial he's gained a bit more notoriety and a fairly sizable following on Twitter (nearly 300,000 as of Mar 9 2012) Biographical information seems relevant. Sources are sorely needed though — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.255.23.14 (talk) 01:42, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Machine Gun Kelly's Real Name Is Not Richard Colson Baker It Is Just Colson Baker

Although there is much debate due to antiquated sources that were false, his real name is JUST Colson Baker. I can provide birth certificate and passport -- and here is a published source from Variety.com:

Name

MGK's real name is Colson Baker not Richard Colson Baker. He clarifies that in this video [1] At about 5:25 he says his first name is not Richard. Then at around 6:04 he says that his name is just "Colson Baker". Also in the description of this picture he explains that Colson is his government name [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by SHWLaceUp (talkcontribs) 20:51, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

June 7 2013 comment

He has personally stated that his name is Colson Baker. If you go to his website www.mgklaceup.com it will say this: "Born Colson Baker in Houston, Texas, MGK lived almost a dozen places, including Egypt, before moving to Denver, Colorado with his father after his mother began a new life with a new man...." Please help me change it! People always call him Richard which is so wrong!!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Julia086 (talkcontribs)

As stated above, reliable sources (such as a police report) indicate that his full legal name is "Richard Colson Baker". He might go by Colson Baker on his website, but reliable sources include the "Richard". No changes will be made without reliable sources indicating otherwise. SpencerT♦C 20:44, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

I understand what you intend, but the thing is that Machine Gun Kelly doesn't redirect to this article, Machine Gun Kelly (rapper). So someone searching for that will end up on that article, not here. On the other hand, MGK redirects to this article so it would make sense to link to MGK (disambiguation) because if they just type in MGK looking for something else, the link is more helpful. Are you serious? How is a photo of a government issued passport, taken by the passport holder, and uploaded to the same person's Facebook account considered an unreliable source? Or did you miss the part where there's an actual, legitimate citation to support the fact the guy's name is wrong and should be fixed? Assuming you did, here's the ORIGINAL SOURCE of the passport photo, which I linked to in my request: https://www.facebook.com/machinegunkellymusic/photos/a.285190090484.142076.77825595484/10154897830475485/?type=3&theater --69.62.180.135 (talk) 21:53, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Are we seriously going to stick with an old and out of state arrest record as a more genuine source than a recent passport issued by the Unites States of America? This page has caused such a headache for the artist with people who do not know him approaching him and calling him "Richard" that he has provided sources repeatedly that show his name is Colson in an effort to get it to stop. Are we going to argue that it's a digitally altered image or something? This is truly getting ridiculous.--2601:14C:8000:21A9:59FC:20F1:9204:2A8 (talk) 22:35, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Name dispute

As there was a major confusion regarding his real birth name, if you click on the link provided - [1] - this was from his official website created by the rapper himself. In that website, he clearly states he was born solely as "Colson Baker", with NO name change. Changing it back to "Richard Colson Baker" is providing false biographical information and is not adherent to Wikipedia policy.

PsychopathicAssassin (talk) 18:17, 22 June 2015 (UTC)

  1. ^ "Born "Colson Baker" in Houston, Texas..." Machine Gun Kelly: Official Biography. Retrieved January 19, 2012.
  • edit* I had missed the above post as it was added to the top instead of the bottom of this talk page.
Recently there has been a spate of edits disputing the name given on the article prior to this. They have referred mostly to facebook as a source that he calls himself by another name. Please refer to the Wikipedia policy here - especially point 4. As the original name is sourced to an official source, this casts doubt on the self published claim and as such that claim cannot be used to justify it. Please revert back to the long time consensus name unless you can provide a better source than the police report to justify the new name. noq (talk) 17:28, 25 June 2015 (UTC)
As explained above, a self-published source does not trump an official source - dropping the Richard is against policy - not leaving it in. There are many reasons people do not use their whole names but that does not mean that it does not exist. You need to explain what is wrong with the official reference other than he does not acknowledge the "Richard" part for it to be discounted. noq (talk) 18:27, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Per WP:PRIMARY secondary sources take precedent over primary sources: "Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources and primary sources."

  • Primary sources:
  • Secondary sources:
    • ""MGK, or Machine Gun Kelly, is a Cleveland rapper born Richard Colson Baker."" Billboard magazine
    • "Born Colson Baker, he endured an adolescence on Cleveland's East Side that played like ghetto Monopoly" Scene
    • Born Richard Colson Baker has an estimated net worth of $1.2 million Born Rich
    • "MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, was born in Houston and spent the first four years of his life in Egypt". Cleveland.com
    • "Richard Colson Baker, also known as Machine Gun Kelly was born on April 22, 1990 in Houston, Texas" IndieHipHop

So it seems there is no consistency in either the primary or secondary sources (although many say Richard). How shall we resolve this?--KeithbobTalk 17:10, 8 July 2015 (UTC)--KeithbobTalk 17:21, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

And this one which is currently cited in the article: "Rising local rap star Machine Gun Kelly, real name Richard Colson Baker," Clevelend.com--KeithbobTalk 18:46, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Looking at the sourcing, the primary sources provide acceptable confirmation to available secondary ones that MGK's legal name is "Richard Colson Baker". The Cleveland Scene I would argue is not a reliable source (frequent sensationalizing in the articles), or at least is less reliable than the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer article that says "Colson Baker" is from 2010. There are 2011, 2012, and 2014 sources from the Cleveland Plain Dealer that list "Richard Colson Baker" that take precedent since they are all more recent. All in all, I would say that the evidence from secondary sources, as corroborated by reliable primary sources (and bear in mind that this is not information synthesis from different primary sources to come to a creative conclusion, which is what the purpose of WP:PRIMARY is), suggests the same thing, that his name is "Richard Colson Baker". SpencerT♦C 14:03, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

I agree with your assessment of the sources.--KeithbobTalk 19:34, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Dear Admin, There is consensus here on the talk page to include 'Richard' in the subject's name per the secondary sources. However, User:PsychopathicAssassin refuses to join in talk page discussion and instead repeatedly reverts the inclusion of 'Richard'. This is in spite several requests for discussion and warnings to stop edit warring on this issue. [1] [2] [3] Can you help us to resolve this? Many thanks.--KeithbobTalk 15:51, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Seconded. I am an admin, but am probably considered "involved" at this point and would prefer a third party to analyze. These same discussions have occurred several times over the years, and with the same conclusion. SpencerT♦C 17:34, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
I'll review the conversation as an uninvolved party with the ability to technically handle the outcome. Mkdwtalk 01:17, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
I believe there to be a "policy-based" consensus to recognize Richard as being part of the artists name as per the reliable sources that cite it in his full name. A primary source is not necessarily subject to the truth, only what the author intends for the public, whereas the larger notable publications are subject to editorial oversight and journalistic integrity on the reporting of factual information. In lieu of no government issued ID for verification, the secondary sources prevail. I recommend to the editors to restore "Richard" and the accompanying citations to the article and revert any attempts to undo it. I remind the editors here that consensus can change and if a following conversation determines it should be removed, that decision and consensus supersedes this recommendation. A final warning will be issued to PsychopathicAssassin whereby further attempts to revert it without forming a new consensus will be deemed disruption under our edit war policy. Mkdwtalk 01:34, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I certainly agree that if new reliable secondary sources come to light the issue can be discussed further and the outcome changed if the new sources dictate such a reversal.--KeithbobTalk 20:48, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Checking sources like his official website, which is managed by MGK himself, seems like a viable and the most reliable source to gain and get his real name, which is indeed Colson Baker. There were also a YouTube interview he was a part of where he was credited solely as Colson Baker as well as the movie Beyond the Lights, where he starred. Colson Baker seems like the best option going forward. (Stole the style, I know (:)--PsychopathicAssassinTalk 20:48, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
@User:PsychopathicAssassin, please do not continue reverting changes on the MGK page before establishing a new consensus here. While his official website might seem like a reliable source, it is a non-independent primary source (see Wikipedia:Identifying and using self-published works). Simply because he has been credited as such in other media does not mean that "Richard" is not in his legal name. Many actors frequently alter their names for movies. For example, see Tom Cruise: "Tom Cruise (born Thomas Cruise Mapother IV; July 3, 1962) is an American actor and filmmaker." Simply because he says his name is Tom Cruise does not mean that "Thomas Cruise Mapother IV" isn't his original name. SpencerT♦C 15:16, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
I have blocked PsychopathicAssassin for a period of 24 hours for violating our policies against edit warring. This may be an obvious solution, but has it been considered to change the lede to include both? i.e. Richard Colson Baker, sometimes publicly credited as Colson Baker and better known by his stage names MGK and Machine Gun Kelly, is an American rapper, songwriter and actor... Consensus is often about finding a compromise especially when both sides have valid arguments and our policies do not perfectly accommodate the situation. Mkdwtalk 18:09, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
I am amenable to that; that is a good proposal. SpencerT♦C 06:24, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
@PsychopathicAssassin and Keithbob: Any thoughts on the above proposal? Mkdwtalk 19:16, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Generally I'm not in support of it. One, too much detail in the lead. Two, undue weight being given to the naming issue which to my knowledge has not been given any weight in the sources. Three, too many names in the lead. It already gives three names (Richard Colson Baker, MGK and Machine Gun Kelly). Four, I'd feel like I was making a concession just to pacify an editor who wants to bully edit instead of having a discussion.--KeithbobTalk 00:15, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

I have a counter proposal:

  • Richard Colson Baker (born April 22, 1990), also known as Richard Colson, MGK and Machine Gun Kelly.

I would support this text (above) which includes all the versions of his name that appear in reliable sources without giving any explanation, detail or undue weight to any particular version.--KeithbobTalk 21:54, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

@Keithbob and Mkdw: The way the article is opened is fine. Although this name dispute is still confusing to me, (says on his website as Colson, says on his digital album booklet for Lace Up as "R. Colson Baker", but this ain't my hill to die on, so I'll let it go), the opening covers what it needs to cover. His real name (R. Colson Baker) and any possible stage names (MGK and Machine Gun Kelly). Changing it to your version, Keith, is stupid. PsychopathicAssassin (talk) 18:17, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

The current lead is supported by WP guidelines and since PA says they are willing to accept it we can all move on to more productive activities now. Thanks everyone.--KeithbobTalk 15:58, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
Glad it all worked out. If ever in doubt PsychopathicAssassin, please do not hesitate to ask inquiries on the talk page or at places like the WP:TEAHOUSE. Discussions must always precede controversial changes if contested. That was one the issues. I didn't think you had a bad argument. You even cited a policy to support your position. There was however another policy that override the policy you based your argument on which is why a consensus formed against using the primary sources in this case. Regards, Mkdwtalk 15:06, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

@Keithbob: @Mkdw: @Spencer: Who was right all along?[1] Apologies will be wholeheartedly accepted for my banning and general misconduct towards me, humans who have been proven incorrect. PsychopathicAssassin (talk) 13:08, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

I think you should read WP:TRUTH. You seemed to have missed the point of the discussion or failed to acknowledge all the other times primary sources are wrong or problematic. Based upon your block log and disruption over relatively few edits, including your latest remark, it's questionable whether your involvement is a WP:NETPOSITIVE. Mkdw talk 05:28, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

@Mkdw: Whatever you say, dude. You can spin it any way you want, but it doesn't undermine the truth. And the truth is I was right, and you were wrong. PsychopathicAssassin (talk) 13:08, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

Uhm... Y'all, he has again stated that he is only referred to as Colson (his 'Almost' music video) and in the song 'Confessions' from his latest release, Fuck It. (show series of calendar pages flipping forward four months)

Another suggestion for compromise: get rid of "Richard", even if it is the name on his birth certificate (which we haven't seen). The name on my birth certificate (names changed to protect anonymity) is "Cedric Frederick Jones". Virtually everybody knows me as "Fred Jones". Outside my immediate family, I doubt anybody who heard "Cedric Jones" would have a clue who you were talking about. The "Cedric" only shows up as an initial initial in my signature, and on a very few documents related to government and banking. If MGK's case is similar, I don't see anything wrong with saying "his name is Colson Baker", as long as it's not claimed that that is his original or official name. Given the contradictory evidence, his official name is something we simply don't know, but I suggest that it's maybe not important. I think a lot of this stems from a feeling that an original or official name is somebody's "real" name, but most of us have different names by which we are known in different circumstances. A name is a label, not something that is inherent in the person. While I hate to stir up the pot again, I can see the frustration in the editors that currently persist in changing it with no respect for consensus. My two cents. Willondon (talk) 03:12, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

So your compromise is to ignore the sources that state Richard because it is easier to let people who dispute that without any evidence choose to remove it. Not much of a compromise. The name someone is typically known by can change over time and be different for different groups of people. We have official sources that give his name as Richard and so unless we can find something that shows that is in error it should remain per the consensus reached above. noq (talk) 18:49, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

The Texas Birth Index shows his birth name as Richard Colson Baker. It looks like he dropped "Richard" at some point, otherwise his passport would have "Richard Colson". So I will use "Richard" as the birth name. Arbor to SJ (talk) 05:06, 21 June 2017 (UTC)

Name

Is MGK's name "Colson Baker" or "Richard Colson Baker"? I myself am not sure, but I've seen this going back and forth on the page for a while, and I'd like to open up a discussion about this on the talk page to establish a consensus. SpencerT♦C 03:15, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

The police booking report [4] and Plain Dealer article [5] include "Richard", and these are reliable sources. I'm going to go ahead and use this, unless someone finds that these sources are incorrect and has a more reliable source to prove it. SpencerT♦C 03:20, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure what was going on with the most recent edit from User:Binksternet but the only way to remove the subject's actual first name, Richard, and explain it as "unreferenced" is to, well, not go through the references. The three cites that follow the first two words of the article all confirm that his first name is Richard, but since he's attempted to disavow it and just go by Colson, his fans have spent years trying to censor this article accordingly. Please reinstate, in the infobox, lead paragraph, and "1990–2009: Early life and career beginnings" section, the guy's full name, which is Richard Colson Baker. 2602:306:BC31:4AA0:A1A8:1603:75A7:EAF2 (talk) 23:17, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

I believe the name Richard was removed earlier based on this Instagram post showing a photo of MGK's current passport, with MGK complaining about the "debate" over his "actual name". I assumed that the passport name was his birth name, but it seems that MGK dropped Richard as a first name some time in the last few years, and got a new passport to reflect that change, which doesn't erase the name given at birth. So I'll restore the birth name with a hidden note. Binksternet (talk) 23:41, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

"MGK has openly spoken about his previous 2-year heroin addiction, making a song referencing the addiction titled "Lead You On", and with the song having a profound impact on him, it has allowed for him to self-refer "Lead You On" as his most meaningful song.[41]"

The last half of this is a mess - this shouldn't be in the passive voice and it makes the sentence unwieldy. Break it off at the first reference of "Lead You On" and then follow up with a sentence that says "He has referred to "Lead You On" as his most meaningful song." 2A02:C7D:E0A0:3B00:1D9E:445B:5C74:7275 (talk) 10:05, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Hatnote

@KalHolmann: Hello, what is your justification against my removal of the hatnote? [Users will not click on Machine Gun Kelly (rapper) expecting to find a criminal gangster. The use of hatnotes is misunderstood here]. It does not meet the quota of WP:SIMILAR and defeats WP:NAMB: the name is not ambiguous, so the hatnote is not necessary to include. A link to this article is necessary at Machine Gun Kelly, as that title is ambiguous. If the gangster at Machine Gun Kelly is also a rapper, this hatnote is justified.

"MGK" redirects to this article, that is ambiguous and it has a disambiguation page, so I will add that as a hatnote. Lazz_R 23:56, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

Machine Gun Kelly (musician)Machine Gun Kelly – Machine Gun Kelly, the musician/rapper is the more famous individual compared to the Memphis gangster. For this reason, I recommend moving this page to the proposed title. Additionally, a search on Google for the term 'Machine Gun Kelly' shows a high sweeping turnout for the musician. With that, I believe viewers of Wikipedia are more likely to be looking for the musician. Moreover, I believe the gangster page currently occupying the proposed title must be removed to another title. I initially moved the page to Machine Gun Kelly (gangster) but an administrator reversed it and suggested on my talk page to use this process, claiming it "is not an uncontroversial move". Thank you. The current opening sentence describing MGK's feud with G-Eazy is included below:

Baker's feud with G-Eazy began after the end of G-Eazy's relationship with Halsey, when photographs were surfaced of them with Baker.

The structure of this is a little awkward, and lacks clarity. It is not clear who "surfaced of them" refers to.

This should be amended as below:

Baker's feud with G-Eazy began after the end of G-Eazy's relationship with Halsey, when photographs of Baker and Halsey together surfaced (or, started to surface).

Why is there no mention of his fued with Corey Taylor? Most of the information you need is right here. You can state something along the lines of: "Baker's feud with Corey Taylor stared in February 2021 when Taylor made an insult directed towards Baker without naming him, stating he hates "the artists who failed in one genre and decided to go rock." On Sunday 18, 2021 insulted Slipknot on stage at Riot Fest 2021, which they both played at, saying that he is happy that he's not a 50 year old wearing a fucking weird mask on a fucking stage.(reference for the date.) The following Monday, Baker stated that Taylor was originally scheduled to appear on his album Tickets to My Downfall, but that Taylor's verse was "fucking terrible". Taylor responded saying he didn't do it because Baker wanted him to sing words that he wrote for him. Taylor later stated that Baker started the fued in an interview where he told bands what they could or couldn't wear." Nomoregoodusernamesleft (talk) 04:34, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Because we're an encyclopedia, not a tabloid. The feud is briefly mentioned at Tickets to My Downfall, because it was mostly relevant to that album. It could be mentioned briefly here technically too, but emphasis on the "briefly" - there's no need for all the "play by play", back and forth "and he said" type stuff. Sergecross73 msg me 12:58, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
Then why does it mention his feuds with Eminem and G-Eazy? Why shouldn't there be any mention of his fued with Corey Taylor whatsoever? Nomoregoodusernamesleft (talk) 14:04, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
His feuds with both Eminem and G-Eazy influenced his music, as he has released diss tracks on both. Whereas, with Corey Taylor it was (as far as I know) just interviews, tweets and maybe a couple of mentions live in between songs. I think it should be included, but definitely not in as much detail as Eminem and G-Eazy. Maybe it already being mentioned on the album page is enough. Issan Sumisu (talk) 15:07, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
I'm not particularly convinced we need to cover those feuds quite so much either. This article isn't particularly the gold standard for Wikipedia being written correctly - don't assume just because it's here now that it should be. I agree with Issan that ones that lead to notable, charting music are generally more worth mentioning at least. Sergecross73 msg me 15:57, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

comments to do with Kenall Jenner, coming from this video to fuse circa 2013. in it he MGK, who is 23, describes his celebrity crush as being Kendall jenner, who was 17, and saying that he'd be "finding her". he defended his stance (which was effectively statutory rape by saying other rock stars had had underage relationships, such as Robert Page and Axl Rose.

MY REQUEST: Would the author please review and edit the last paragraph of the “Early life” section? It doesn’t make sense. The previous paragraph makes no mention of his father ever leaving, and the last paragraph states that when his father returned, he moved them both to the Middle East. Returned from where? Who exactly is the “both”, the subject of the article and who else?? Thanks! Jenz4Wiki (talk) 11:33, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Done Since the ref doesn’t mention his father at all, the paragraph has been removed and the remaining info that is sources has been reworked into the other paragraph LADY LOTUSTALK 12:28, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Richard Colson Baker

MGK was born Richard Colson Baker. He dropped Richard from his name when he started getting famous as it just didn't fit and people in battles would call him Dick in school. Because Dick is short for Richard 76.73.249.94 (talk) 12:22, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

Baker's role in Good Mourning as "London" in Good Mourning should be added to the "Acting Career" section. It is referenced later on, but given that he played the leading role, it's worth including in "Acting Career" section 4 as well. He starred in the film and it is undeniably a milestone in his acting career.

Please change: "Baker made his film debut in the 2014 romantic drama Beyond the Lights, where he played a "shallow, self-important" rapper named Kid Culprit.[80] In 2016, he co-starred and co-executive produced the drama film The Land, a Cleveland-set drama produced by fellow rapper Nas.[81] The same year, he had a minor role in the techno-thriller adventure film Nerve with Emma Roberts and Dave Franco; and had a recurring role on the Showtime comedy-drama series Roadies as Wes, a former Pearl Jam roadie.[82][83]He played Felix in the 2018 Netflix post-apocalyptic horror thriller film Bird Box with Sandra Bullock, and portrayed drummer Tommy Lee in The Dirt, a 2019 Netflix biographical comedy-drama about Mötley Crüe.[84] He played the role of Newt in the 2020 superhero film Project Power opposite Jamie Foxx,[85] and the following year, he co-starred with Bruce Willis and Megan Fox in the crime thriller film Midnight in the Switchgrass; and starred in the action western film The Last Son with Sam Worthington.[2]"

Done That change to part was unnecessarily long and a bit unclear. You could do something like this instead:

MGK's music video "Alice in Wonderland", 2010

In March 2009, while he was on the verge of getting evicted, Baker traveled to Harlem's Apollo Theater, where he had consecutive victories, making him the first ever rapper to win at the Apollo Theater.[3][clarification needed] He recorded music in his home studio, which he refers to as the "Rage Cage",[4] and started to gain exposure when he was featured on MTV2's Sucker Free Freestyle, where he freestyled numerous verses from his "Chip off the Block" single. In February 2010, he released his second mixtape 100 Words and Running, where he derived his catchphrase, "Lace Up", which started as a mixtape interlude, before making it a prominent reference in his music. Despite his rising popularity, Baker found himself working at Chipotle to afford rent, as well as being kicked out by his father after high school. Baker soon also became a father.[3]

Looking over the discography, I noticed there are no mixtapes, EP's, or side projects. For example, the YouTube Cyphers that released in 2023, or the Lockdown Sessions in 2020. In September of 2018 he released an EP titled Binge. In terms of mixtapes he has Fuck It (2015), Black Flag (2013), EST 4 Life (2012), Rage Pack (2011), Lace Up mixtape (2010), Homecoming (2009), Certified (2008), Stamp of Approval (2007), and Stamp of Approval Prelude (2006).

1) Please change Cleveland to Shaker Heights in the Musical Career/Origin section. He didn't originate in Cleveland. This is not accurate.

2) Please change Cleveland to Shaker Heights in the list of places he lived (after Chicago, Denver, ...) because he never lived in Cleveland. This is inaccurate.

References to MGK living in Cleveland should be clarified...Shaker Heights is a suburban city outside of Cleveland. Therefore, references to him living in Cleveland are not as accurate as they could be/should be. This is important context for a white rapper whose subject matter largely involves urban life, because he didn't live in the city he lived in the suburbs. If you've spent a lot of time in Cleveland, then crossed the border into Shaker, you understand this difference very very clearly and recognize its importance. Bobeckhart (talk) 13:57, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Not done for now: Shaker Heights, Ohio will call Shaker Heights a suburb of Cleveland and says that it is inside the city limits. This means it wouldn't be inaccurate to say that MGK is "from" Cleveland. Further, the reliable sources we have characterize MGK as being from Cleveland (see here). The only references I could find that used MGK together with "Shaker Heights" were just ones that mentioned the high school he went to (Shaker Heights High School). Askarion 18:27, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
I recommend you, literally, read the Wikipedia page for Shaker Heights. Just in case you don't, I'll paste the important first paragraph which clearly states S.H. is outside the city limits ("abutting") and was designed as a suburban retreat from the inner city. Btw, I'm from Ohio and haver been to Cleveland 50+ times and been to S.H. at least a dozen times and when you enter S.H. there's an actual sign that says you're leaving Cleveland and entering S.H.
Anyway back to the actual Wikipedia page for S.H. Here it is:
"Shaker Heights is a city in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city's population was 29,439. Shaker Heights is an inner-ring streetcar suburb of Cleveland, abutting the eastern edge of the city's limits. It is a planned community developed by the Van Sweringen brothers, railroad moguls who envisioned the community as a suburban retreat from the industrial inner city of Cleveland." Bobeckhart (talk) 21:33, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
When I read Shaker Heights, Ohio the first time, I wasn't sure if by "abutting" the city limits they meant from the inside or from the outside. I see now that Shaker Heights is a separate city from Cleveland (that article could use some copyediting, honestly). However, this doesn't solve the issue that reliable sources will call MGK a Cleveland native (including Cleveland Magazine, WKYC, Cleveland.com, the Grammy Awards, and seemingly even MGK himself, according to Billboard). I'm fine with another editor changing it to Shaker Heights if they disagree, but I'm still having trouble finding sources saying he is "from" Shaker Heights outside of mentions that he attended Shaker Heights High School. Askarion 22:22, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
Addendum: Dayton Daily News and The Cincinnati Enquirer will say that he is from Shaker Heights, Ohio. His early life section could use some copyediting. I'll get on that today or tomorrow. But as for the "origin" infobox, I'm not sure; I'd have to find an editor who knows more, because reliable sources certainly characterize him as a Cleveland artist whether or not he grew up in Shaker Heights. Remember it's all lowercase now, "mgk" Musiclover100001 (talk) 01:59, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

it is inaccurate to say MGK lived in Cleveland

this is just plain wrong...he lived in Shaker Heights which is a middle- to upper-class suburb of cleveland. for rappers and other artists laying claim to understanding "urban" issues, it is crucial to get it right as to whether or not they truly lived an urban existence [think about the issues with Vanilla Ice and his phony bio...this is the same issue].

cleveland is the home of the 1968 Hough race riots, while shaker heights is, well, in their own words: "Shaker Heights is an exceptional place. Here you will discover a quality of life that is second to none. Historic architecture, magnificent tree-lined streets and parks, diverse and welcoming neighborhoods, and well-supported, top-notch schools are sources of tremendous community pride." [9]

it hurts the credibility of wikipedia that they publish this inaccuracy and won't allow a member of the public to edit/correct it [which is the very basis of their model and success].

sincerely, bob eckhart Bobeckhart (talk) 00:12, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
