Marcy
[edit]I am a magician and member of the world-famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and a big fan of Matt Marcy. I was there when he won the Junior Magician award from the Academy of Magical Arts, and I've seen him perform at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas and the Madrid Theater in the San Fernando Valley. I also own his teaching DVD. He's been a large influence on the comedy-magic community, and is an excellent performer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hhoudini (talk • contribs) 07:05, September 15, 2007
- (chuckle) Yeah, I've been to the Castle too. Please don't assume that Wikipedia editors are just a bunch of laypeople. ;) In any case, I have nothing personally against Marcy, but in order for someone to have a bio on Wikipedia, there needs to be proof that they meet notability requirements. See WP:BIO. Winning the "Junior Magician Award" from the Academy of Magical Arts (the Castle) is a start, but it's not quite there yet. As I'm sure you know, there are a lot of awards out there. Now, if you have sources to prove the statement of "large influence on the comedy-magic community," I'm listening. I've also seen "Magic Castle After Dark", but though that helps, I'm afraid that it still doesn't make the case for notability. Don't get me wrong, I'm fully in support of Marcy and think that he may be notable enough someday to qualify as "encyclopedic", but I don't think there's a case yet. Have you got articles in major media newspapers or magazines? Or maybe a major magic award? BTW, next time you're at the Castle, say hi to Whit for me. --Elonka 09:31, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry you feel that way. Marcy is a clear contributor to the magic community, and is accepted among his peers as one of the most creative comedy-magicians around. He is certainly as relevant as many of the magicians listed on Wikipedia. I will continue adding additional information to his entry as I find it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.175.70.58 (talk) 20:01, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
