Talk:Phantom ranch
Phantom Ranch was originally Rust Camp, named after Dave Rust who built the Old Kiabab Trail and the cable car that spans the river. The trail to the river from the North Rim was completed in 1906, and the cable car a few years following. During that time Dave Rust and his crew planted trees, vegetables, grains, etc. and constructed tents for tourists on their way to the North Rim.
The reason I looked up Phantom Ranch at this time is because the Rust family is hiking the canyon on August 17, 2006 in commemoration of the 100th aniversary of the Old Kiabab Trail, formally the Rust Trail. Some work is also being done to get the trail renamed to "The Rust Trail".
I would hope to see more entries on this page and fleshed out with the history of the area.
Combining articles
[edit]There is a second article describing the same place, Phantom Ranch. I suggest combining these articles into one, keeping the one with the capital "R" since this is a placename and a proper noun. Notary137 05:31, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
