barra
[edit]barra in berber means outside. confirmed? Mallerd (talk) 09:47, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Barra is an Egyptian word, I guess (because I am Egyptian), and yes, it means outside
(by the way what do you mean by Berber? Arabs or Amazigh?) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.131.120.78 (talk) 03:48, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
Proposed revamp of Rachid Taha article
[edit]I have worked on a proposed revamp here. It is an expansion, with pictures, references, more information in the infobox, and so forth, along with a sortable discography. Please review it and make comments here on this Rachid Taha talk page (ie please don't make changes in the sandbox yet.) Let me know what you think. Further, I just saw the video inforamtion (above in this talk page) which could possibly be added to the discography box). If there are no objections, I'll swap in this revamp in a day or so. --Tomwsulcer (talk) 03:40, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Editing for donations project
[edit]Note: this revamp is an Editing for donations project, similar to Bounty Board, in that Partisan Records and Knitting Factory Records is contributing funds to the Wikimedia Foundation to prompt volunteers like me to write about this particular subject. Regardless of this donation, all Wikipedia's pillar rules still apply: neutrality, reliable sources, notability, no advertising, verifiability, balance and such. Feel free to edit this article like any other. I encourage others here to join me in the editing for donations project since it helps pay for things like computers and salaries and whatever they do (Wikimedia is a non-profit parent to Wikipedia). Questions? See here. --Tomwsulcer (talk) 19:11, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Place of birth
[edit]Currently the article states that he was "born in 1958 in Sig (Mascara Province), Algeria, although a second source suggests he was born in the Algerian seacoast city of Oran." This is confusing and needs clarification. Indeed there are plenty of sources for Oran: Liberation, Premiere and Taha himself said so in this interview: "Rv Dols : Tu es né en 1958 en Algérie… Rachid Taha : Oui, à Oran".
On the other hand the French wiki states that he was born in 'Sig, near Oran', which is backed up by Universal Music and a post on Taha's website that states: "He is joined on Ya Oumri by Cheba Fadela – a legendary raï singer from Sig near Oran like Rachid". What's the best way to clarify this? --ELEKHHT 06:06, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
