Whoever wrote this article used WP:Original research to invent the 1856 date. It took me a couple of minutes to find an earlier usage of the exact term "Champignons sautés au beurre" in an 1830 medical article about a man who ate poisonous mushrooms, sauteed in butter; [1].
The problem here is that you need to use a secondary source to specifically state the earliest date. You cannot use a primary source to conduct WP:OR on Wikipedia. Abductive (reasoning) 04:35, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- The source from 1856 verifies that the dish was used in recipes during this time. I have been unable to find additional sources about the topic's history at this time. Is the one above viable? Poisonous mushrooms are not typically used for culinary purposes. I restored the content for now, because this article is listed on Main page with this specific information, and the DYK nomination was approved and promoted in the DYK process. - No doubt mushrooms have been sauteed since antiquity. I will report your OR in WP:ERRORS. Abductive (reasoning) 04:51, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- The sentence stated, "Usage of the dish in recipes dates to at least 1856" (diff). The sentence did not state that this was the first time the dish was prepared. It's all good, though. Moving on now. North America1000 05:47, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
