Merger proposal

- The result of the discussion was merge into Translation. (non-admin closure) --Soumya-8974 talk contribs subpages 13:04, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
@MezzoMezzo: I propose to merge target language (translation) and source language (translation) into a new article called source and target language because I think these articles are currently too small to be kept separate at the moment and because only 15 articles currently link to the former article, and only 22 to the latter. -- PK2 (talk) 22:12, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Survey
[edit]- Merge into Translation instead – the original proposal doesn't go far enough. Proposer is correct that the article is too small; even combined they will be too small, because they are basically dictionary definitions, and Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Both articles should be moved to Translation, perhaps to a section with the name you suggested: Translation#Source and target language. An article called Source and target language will not meet the requirements of WP:Notability, in particular, WP:PAGEDECIDE. 'Source language' and 'Target language' should become redirects. - Merge into Translation per Mathglot's arguments. I'd also invoke WP:PRECISE. In reading the articles, both are covering the grounds covered by Translation studies. Iryna Harpy (talk) 10:03, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- Merge into Translation, per Mathglot. The target page Translation might be actually a good candidate for a WP:size split, but that should not start with the section Translation#Source and target language (still to be created). –Austronesier (talk) 10:12, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- Merge into Translation, per Mathglot. I don't even see how these two articles could ever be fleshed out enough to become full articles. — Ƶ§œš¹ [lɛts b̥iː pʰəˈlaɪˀt] 14:15, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- I just merged these two articles into a new section of the translation article called Source and target languages now. -- PK2 (talk) 05:06, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Arrived late, but I agree too. This is jargon, not substance.--Bob not snob (talk) 05:58, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
