Uses
[edit]I learned Spotfire is used for microarray analysis (bioinformatics), I will try to fix this article as I learn more[1].Tstrobaugh 15:09, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
- Spotfire is not a Bioinformatics software package. It might be used for this task, but then this software can be added to a lot of subject-specific categories, too. And this article needs a lot of improvement and is not even close in giving the right impression of the program. JKW 22:08, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
- A quick Wikipedia and Google search unravel that it is already mentioned in the Business intelligence tools article, and I think this fits. Please ask for expert help! JKW 22:11, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

- Certainly seems to be a BI package; not one I'm familiar with. Most of the recent coverage centers around the TIBCO buyout. Most of my other searches only came up with some rather bland press releases. Kuru talk 23:07, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Proposed updates
[edit]On behalf of Cloud Software Group, and as part of my work at Beutler Ink, I'd like to propose some updates to this Wikipedia article. I'd like to think these are fairly straightforward updates, but I avoid editing the live space and invite others to review and implement appropriately. For easier review, I've separated out the requests:
References for unsourced text
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I see the following text is currently unsourced:
- "Spotfire was founded by Christopher Ahlberg and Ben Shneiderman to develop applications of dynamic queries in the early 1990s."
I'd like to offer replacement text with sources to clarify the roles of Christopher Ahlberg and Ben Shneiderman:
- Spotfire was co-founded by Christopher Ahlberg, who later served as chief executive officer, in 1996.[1][2] Ben Shneiderman's work on information visualization, including dynamic queries, also led to the development of Spotfire.[3]

Before starting Recorded Future in 2009, Ahlberg founded the business intelligence firm Spotfire, which was acquired by the Silicon Valley company TIBCO in 2007

I hope this is helpful. I understand Spotfire's website cannot be used as an inline citation, but you're welcome to review Spotfire's own history overview if needed. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:58, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- I'm confused by this phrasing. It seems to imply that they're co-founders, but also says Shnedierman's work "also led to" the company, which doesn't seem to put him on an equal footing with Ahlberg. I'm having trouble accessing your book sources to detangle this, but the Spotfire source seems to suggest that they're cofounders. Could you rephrase this to clarify? Replacement text for poorly sourced content
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
In the History section, I propose removing the following poorly sourced content, which is based on a press release and bad URLs to TIBCO's website:
- As of 2018[update], the latest version is Spotfire X.[1][2] Spotfire X incorporates natural language query (NLQ) powered search, AI-driven recommendations, and model-based processing.[3]

{{cite web}}
:|last=
has generic name (help) - ^ Spotfire X
- ^ "TIBCO Unveils Unprecedented Analytics with Spotfire X and the A(X) Experience".
I propose replacing with the following updated text:
- Spotfire X was released in 2018 and introduced new AI and natural language processing capabilities.[1][2] The launch of Spotfire 11 in 2020 featured Hyperconverged Analytics, which has been described as "the confluence of visual analytics, data science and streaming data capture in one environment". Spotfire 12, released in 2022, allowed customers to complete data-driven actions from dashboards and added new cloud-native and model operations functions.[3][4]

The latest Tibco Spotfire update enables administrators to understand how end users are applying a recently launched tool that allows them to trigger actions directly from their dashboards. In addition, Tibco introduced new streaming and data science capabilities... In June 2022, Tibco previewed Spotfire 12 -- including the Cloud Actions tool. Weeks later, the vendor launched Spotfire 12 and made Cloud Actions generally available.
I'll let editors decide if any other details are worth mentioning here. My primary goal is to replace outdated and poorly sourced text with updated text. Thanks, Inkian Jason (talk) 14:58, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Features
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I propose the following update about Spotfire for the History section:
- Spotfire has become an AI-powered data analytics and visualization platform. In 2023, TIBO updated Spotfire 12.2 with improved data visualization features and new data functionality.[1][2] Built on Microsoft Azure's OpenAI service, the AI assistant Spotfire Copilot was introduced to improve data analysis functions.[3]

This includes an update to Spotfire 12.2 with enhanced data visualization features as well as new data functionality for developers... Spotfire was positioned as a business intelligence vendor, although the technology has steadily evolved to an AI powered data analytics and visualization platform.

Additionally, Spotfire, another Cloud Software Group business, introduced a new AI assistant, Spotfire Copilot, built on Microsoft Azure OpenAI service, to enhance data analysis capabilities.

Cloud Software Group
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Since TIBCO has been absorbed by Cloud Software Group, I propose the following update:
References

So what is Cloud Software Group? While being a conglomerate, the parent company of both TIBCO and Citrix, it's more than that. Many of the major product groups within those two – such as TIBCO's Spotfire and NetScaler from Citrix, are now developed into distinct business units, of which there are now eight in total.

Spotfire, a Cloud Software Group business unit, is using the Azure OpenAI service to power its new Spotfire Copilot
Thanks again for updating the article on my behalf. Inkian Jason (talk) 14:58, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
- Done, though you may want to clarify how it ended up that way. Rusalkii (talk) 03:04, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
Website in infobox
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
In the infobox, I propose replacing TIBCO's website with the following:
- {{URL|spotfire.com/}}
This is Spotfire's official website, which is more helpful to readers and how the infobox field is intended to be used, per Template:Infobox company. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:58, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Logo
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I have uploaded the current version of Spotfire's logo at the following link: File:Logo for Spotfire.png. Can someone replace the old logo in the infobox with the current version?
I prefer not to edit the main space because of my conflict of interest.

Products in infobox
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
In the infobox's Products field, I propose changing "TIBCO Spotfire" to simply "Spotfire" for accuracy.
Thanks again to User:SafariScribe and others for helping here. Inkian Jason (talk)
- @SafariScribe Thanks for reviewing. However, I was intending to update the "Products" field in the Infobox, which is currently:
- | products = [https://www.tibco.com/products/tibco-spotfire TIBCO Spotfire]
- Are you comfortable with replacing the URL and "TIBCO Spotfire" with simply "Spotfire"? Inkian Jason (talk) 16:13, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
