Athens 2004

Someone please add the Athens 2004 medal count!

Add Flags!!

Could someone please take the time to add flags before the name of each country. Also, the same thing needs to be done to the Winter Olympics medal count page. You can use this page as an example if you don't know what I am talking about! Thank you very much! --Jared 20:16, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

This page needs flags badly, as this page is the model for all of the others! Please also add the medal icons instead of the names "Gold", etc. See 2006 Winter Olympics medal count as a guide. The Winter Olympics page also needs this revision! --Jared 00:02, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

The IOC does not officially recognize medal tallies or standings

It must be mentioned that the IOC "does not officially recognize national medal totals, nor recommend using one way of assigning medals by country over another. The original Olympic charter forbade a medal count that included a ranking per country". All medal counts published by the media are unofficial; so is the one above. (I have an article to prove)

Which means the claim at the beggining of this article is FALSE. IOC does not use any system.

A MAJOR editing in every olympic medal count is needed. particularly this one,

"These rankings sort by the number of gold medals earned by a country (in this context a country is an entity represented by a National Olympic Committee). The number of silvers is taken into consideration next and then the number of bronze. If, after the above, countries are still tied, equal ranking is given and they are listed alphabetically. This follows the system used by the IOC???, IAAF and BBC.

Dual Nation listings?

I don't understand why there are some dual and triple country listings. Is it that these 2 (3) countries once competed together for one olympics. Or did they all have the same rank?...but then some would be listed twice. Someone please clarify this for me! --Jared 21:45, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Criticism paragraph

As with the article Total Olympics medal count where Medalstats has insisted on adding the same criticism I have taken it out of this article. Unsourced criticism, personal views and the like have no place here. This is simply an adding together of numbers that wasn't "designed" to do anything. Bohemia/Czech Republic

Given that Bohemia is a part of the Czech Republic, the Eastern half of the country around Prague, shouldn't its medals be added to those of the Czech Republic to provide a more accurate representation of how the people from the Czech Republic have gone in the Olympics?

Soviet Union/USSR/Unified Team

Another one of these, the Soviet Union/USSR/Unified Team are all the same. Shouldn't the medals won by the Unified Team in 1992 be added to those won by the USSR during its existence? Having said this, Russia is a different beast altogether and should never have included in its tallies medals won by the USSR or the Unified Team.

When the Soviet Union dissolved, it split up into 15 different countries. The Unified Team was comprised of only 12 countries. King nothing 2 09:16, 1 March 2006 (UTC)

Germany/W. Germany/E. Germany

Given the current status of Germany as a unified country, shouldn't all medals won by Germans be included in the current German total? Given that the two Germanys were only the result of a political stalemate out of German control - separating out medals won by East & West Germany away from the overall German total is not a fair representation of how many medals have been won by Germany at the Olympic Games.

On the list I would propose that countries that no longer exist and hence compete be listed in Italics with their participation dates in brackets after their name, and that the rankings should be of countries that are currently active and still participating. West Germany would still be on the list in its present place, but not ranked.

Re: 1906 Intercalated games

I would like to inform any person willing to do this that the 1906 intercalated games medals should be removed from this page and the total medals page, per the consensus of the Wikipedia community, which can be viewed here. This shouldn't be a big project, and I would appreciate any person willing to do this. If you really feel helpful, mayber make sure that all of the numbers on these pages are correct. Well it's not a matter of not recognizing them; on the contrary, it has been decided that we don't recognize them. It is just a matter of finding someone to get rid of all of the medals from the 1906 count, which is fairly easy, but I just don't want to do the work myself! --Jared ^[T]/_[+] 01:34, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

Mistake ?

In other wiki's (GER, POL, NED, ESP) it's Canada which has 82 gold medals, and Romania with 55, not inversely.

Some of those other tables need to be fixed. I can vouch for the correctness of the EN wiki tables - I have verified every year against the IOC database. Andrwsc 21:32, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
