POV
[edit]As in The Quiet American (2002 film), an anonymous editor added a statement about the South Vietnamese government having been infiltrated by North Vietnamese agents, with the implication that this undermines the novel's political message in hindsight. I've removed that remark, as it is (a) vague, (b) unsourced, and (c) not particularly relevant to the issue of the film having changed the novel's premise around 180 degrees. ←Hob 22:58, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
I also struck this bit: However, others feel that the film's salvation lay in the fine acting performances turned in by Redgrave and Murphy, and that its central message remained intact, a poignant warning to Americans to take responsibility for staying informed and involved with foreign events and policies, even in deceptively far-away lands. "Others" is a weasel word, and it's not for Wikipedia to assert that the "central message" of the novel was just about staying informed and involved. If we could refer to actual critics who praised the actors or who described the film and novel that way, that'd be better. ←Hob 23:16, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Article name
[edit]Shouldn't the article be named The Quiet American (film, 1958) since there are two films of the same name? And the second is actually much closer to the novel than this one. -- Paul Pogonyshev 14:25, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
French page with inaccuracy
[edit]There is no sense in this film that Pyle is a CIA agent. Compare the language in the French Wiki page:
Fowler découvre progressivement la véritable personnalité d'Alden Pyle, agent sous couverture de la CIA apportant du soutien logistique au Général Thé qui commettra des attentats contre les Français, attribués au Viet Minh.
Perhaps someone can point this out and/or amend? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andarin (talk • contribs) 23:16, 19 January 2013 (UTC)
