Unlike Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic & Timeline of the Russian invasion of Ukraine the NYT published a detailed, minute-by-minute timeline of the first day, so that's what I began with. These are extremely fast-moving events; other timelines shall undoubtedly burgeon in retrospect. kencf0618 (talk) 10:43, 10 October 2023 (UTC)

As of 2:10 IST

This is the most difficult material I've worked with since Suicide of Amanda Todd. I happened to awaken at 1:50 a.m. MDT (0750 UTC) to some eight pages of BBC rolling coverage, and I haven't even gotten to The Guardian, WSJ, NYT as of yet. I am concerned about Wikipedia:Due weight & Wikipedia:Neutral point of view and, for the lack of a better phrase, the evenness of the round-the-clock editing. As it is for this tranche of my editing I used page 8 of the BBC's rolling coverage, and then skipped to page 1. And I would like to get ahead of these issues. kencf0618 (talk) 09:40, 12 October 2023 (UTC)

October 18 section unclear

Please edit October 18 section for clarity - states "Nearly 800 people have been killed." Certainly more people had been killed at that point in total - I think this comes from the Aljazeera source, which states:

"“All of us recognise the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, and support equal measures of justice and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike,” [the joint statement] said, without calling for a ceasefire in Gaza where nearly 800 people were killed by then."

So please add clarity to the assertion above. That said, if my memory is correct, this number might be an underestimation-- further research may be required.

(Sorry for any mistakes in my talk-post formatting - new at this) Brentmobbs (talk) 16:32, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

The UN and Other Fire Hoses; I Take My Leave

We'll probably need a reliable source with a overview of what the UN has been up to. I've so many tabs open the chronology is difficult to parse, trying to go back and slot in the resolutions and their permutations.

https://press.un.org/en/2023/sc15445.doc.htm

https://www.palestinechronicle.com/us-vetoes-brazil-humanitarian-resolution-on-gaza-but-why-did-russia-abstain/

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/10/25/us-resists-ceasefire-call-in-un-security-council-debate-on-israel-gaza-war?traffic_source=rss

Furthermore:

BBC live coverage: 8 pages.

The Guardian: 5 pages.

And those are just the enumerated of the eight news sources I've routinely been using. This is third timeline I've curated, and it's never been my intent with any of them to be the omnibus editor indefinitely.

I'm walking away from it now.

Good luck.

Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 13 October 2023

Remove specific times under 'October 7' before events, to better reflect the styling of the rest of the page in its' current format. (i.e. 6:08: President Joe Biden spoke with Netanyahu and expressed his condolences and support, later declaring during a speech that U.S. support for Israel was "...solid and unwavering". would generally be written the same, but with '6:08' removed.

As a side note, the section for October 7th is missing a lot of needed sourcing, preferably un-paywalled. The rest of the article has ample sourcing, with some events even having multiple sources as is per standard. October 7 should reflect the same level of sourcing, given that it was the first day of the conflict. Fawndering (talk) 11:11, 13 October 2023 (UTC)

This article needs quite a bit of improvement

For example, yesterday on October 28 the IDF "expanded ground operations" in northern Gaza but this article hasn't been updated. Also from Portal:Current events, there are quite a few airstrikes that could be added to the timeline. I'd probably do this if I wasn't busy but I'll leave this note here for the time being. Needs serious restructuring

This page needs to be thoroughly checked again. Too many copy paste violations from websites, WP:QUOTEFARM, WP:RECENTISM and WP:NOTNEWSPAPER entries and redundant entries on different dates about items that happened on the same date. Also taking issue with overreliance on Youtube and Twitter sources that enable such questionable editing. All in all this is a serious negation of the Manual of Style that has so far discouraged me from contributing to this article, unlike similar Timelines of recent conflicts. 50 Year anniversary of Yom Kippur war

The Yom Kippur War started on the 6th of October, and the first attack in this war was on the 7th of October. The introduction claims it started on the anniversary of the war, which isn't true, it was a day later. Nicholas (talk) 12:51, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Adding useful context for entry on Amihai Eliyahu

I think this entry

  • Israeli heritage minister Amihai Eliyahu suggested launching a nuclear strike on the Gaza Strip.

should be updated with adding the context from his Wikidia article

He was later disavowed, and subsequently suspended from cabinet meetings by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Like so:

  • Israeli heritage minister Amihai Eliyahu suggested launching a nuclear strike on the Gaza Strip, and was subsequently suspended by Natanyahu.

Currently, I think it paints a picture of a nuclear attack being actually on the table, whereas with the added context it indicates that it's actually not on the table for the Israeli government. Meerpirat (talk) 11:32, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

November 17 & 19 entries on Jenin events

The account of the events in Jenin on November 17 and November 19 is missing several important details.

An article in The Guardian dated November 17 reports that Israeli forces killed Hamas militants during a raid in Jenin. This information is attributed to both Hamas and Israeli military sources.

However, the current entry on Wikipedia about the Jenin events only references the IEDs set off by the Al-Quds Brigade, which seemingly had a minor impact on the battle. Benabuya2 (talk) 10:31, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Concerns regarding WP:NPOV

I'd like to bring up my concerns regarding potential WP:NPOV issues regarding this article, as I had just corrected this edit made by @Chomik1129 which I found to be written in a biased manner. When I was initially looking through this timeline, the passage added by this person in particular caught my attention and left me confused due to Israel's rejection towards ceasefire in the past. Upon checking the source they provided, its opening sentence of "Hamas rejected an Israeli offer to stop fighting for one week in exchange for dozens of hostages," seems to be completely different from what Chomik1129 wrote as "Israel's proposal to implement a ceasefire".

Given how easily I noticed this, I'm concerned about there possibly being more instances in this article which include clear NPOV issues and biased articulation of sources (which result in presenting wrong information on the article), especially through edits done by this editor. For the editor in question, you cannot just call a proposal for a temporary halt in fighting in exchange for hostages as a proposal for ceasefire. Those two are not the same. Not only is this a huge difference between the source and the article (which, given the controversial nature of this situation, should absolutely not be done), it makes the entire sentence confusing in the first place. Thanks. B3251 (talk) 15:49, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. An omnibus WP:IDONTLIKEIT is a mere panchreston [[1]] kencf0618 (talk) 16:13, 24 December 2023 (UTC).
This in of itself isn't a "change X to Y request" because I had already changed Chomik1129's wording of "implementation of a ceasefire" to what the source actually said, to "temporary stop fighting in exchange for hostages"; I should've mentioned this earlier, so my bad. I am bringing up a genuine concern regarding WP:NPOV which has nothing to do with WP:IDONTLIKEIT though. B3251 (talk) 16:39, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

Veraval Attacks; Her Details

Not only is this an extremely volatile and dynamic situation, and have a decided I tendency to plug in the incidents a day late. My apologies, and thanks for the constant corrections! Living on MST (UTC-7) as I do, and trying to make of multiple incomplete reports is not an easy task, particularly since the assorted news outlets don't frame events on the UTC news cycle...

Secondly, I'm focusing on the maritime dimension for a while. In that wise I plan to parentheticalize each ship's provenance (for lack of a better word), viz: Flag, owner(s), management/operator, national composition of crew, and nature of Israeli-linkage. Sound good? kencf0618 (talk) 15:56, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

I see that almost every day we update the numbers of dead on each side. This highlights the numbers, which are roughly 200 and 20k, respectively. This is 100 Palestinians for each Israeli. Considering that Israel disputes the 20k number and that its sources might be controlled by Hamas, would this constitute undue weight with unreliable numbers? There is a grammar mistake in the opening sentence of lead. It should say "a series of coordinated armed incursions on Israel from the Gaza Strip." (it's plural, while "a" is singular, thanks)--125.198.46.115 (talk) 10:43, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
