Merge suggestion
[edit]@Antony-22, Llew Mawr, and Muboshgu: Should we merge Prosecution of Donald Trump, Trial of Donald Trump and/or Impeachment of Donald Trump? There is substantial overlap and one page could probably serve for all three titles. I'd suggest "Prosecution of Donald Trump" as the title, as that seems to cover all linked articles, whereas some entries are not trials and others are not about impeachment. I suggest a dab format rather than a list or index, as that makes it easier to spot bad incoming links and all three pages comply with MOS:DAB (despite one not being a dab), but that's personal preference. - I would suggest this as well – Prosecution can refer to many things under certain contexts. For now at least, and maybe in the merged article, list the Stormy Daniels and Jack Smith cases as "indictments" since that's the word both Trump and the mainstream media seem to settle on. If this page only stays as these two cases, then maybe even move back to Indictment of Donald Trump (currently a redirect to Prosecution page). - I agree it's not ideal to have a web of overlapping disambiguation pages. But they overlap in complex ways:
- "Prosecution" refers specifically to a criminal proceeding, excluding civil and impeachment proceedings.
- There are multiple proceedings that have not yet gone to trial.
- The impeachment set of articles includes several that are not directly about the trial.
- Still, I think Trial of Donald Trump is the best title if we're going to merge all these disambiguation pages, since very broadly it pertains to expected future trials and closely related articles. It could even have three sections for impeachment, civil, and criminal. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 19:43, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Cool. I've created a draft version at my sandbox (permalink) – aside from maybe wording changes, I think it can serve as a starting point. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 00:04, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Would say that since the media and Trump himself have all settled on "indictment" to refer to both the Alvin Bragg and Jack Smith investigations/trials, I would suggest that Indictments remain the title. InvadingInvader (userpage, talk) 00:06, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- seems like a good approach to me. Newystats (talk) 00:11, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- It's a good start. I'd make the headings "Impeachment", "Criminal", and "Civil" for internal consistency. I'd also roll in all the items from Impeachment of Donald Trump since they're trial-related enough to be rolled in here. Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 03:14, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- I'd probably stick more closely to the current format of the dabs, which is more in line with MOS:DAB. Certes (talk) 18:06, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- It seems there's consensus to merge these three dab pages, pending further edits about the exact organization. Is it okay to start making the changes? Antony–22 (talk⁄contribs) 01:20, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

How about a disambig for the various disambigs? --91.5.106.136 (talk) 15:56, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
Plural title proposal
[edit]Since this dab page covers multiple trials, shouldn't the title be moved to Trials of Donald Trump? Blainster (talk) 02:46, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- An article could certainly have a plural title. However, a disambiguation page provides links for alternative meanings of its title, and the title which can refer to any one of the entries is singular. For example, we have St. Mary's Church rather than St. Mary's Churches. Certes (talk) 09:36, 14 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, but I think the difference is that people are likely to want to see an overview of the trials of Donald Trump. For St. Mary's Church, they are less likely to want to see all churches named St. Mary. TahaGhassemi (talk) 16:01, 7 August 2023 (UTC) TahaGhassemi (talk) 16:01, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- That's a point in favour of changing the page from a dab into a list. However, it's also useful for someone wanting details of a particular trial but unsure of the article title. Certes (talk) 16:21, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- @TahaGhassemi If you'd like a list of the ongoing prosecutions of Donald Trump, see Indictments against Donald Trump. For a wider overview, see Personal and business legal affairs of Donald Trump. Those two articles have been linked to in the "See also" section of this page—which is merely for navigation purposes, equivalent to an index. Llew Mawr (talk) 11:58, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Let's revive this. A plural title is preferable as this one is actually misleading. It implies this is an actual article covering only one trial. -- Valjean (talk) (PING me) 17:53, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
