[edit]What is the reason for a separate entry for IX-77? The text for this "article" is in any case lifted from a Navy site, with all its inaccuracies (the ship was not launched as "Vega"...).
Is it the policy of Wikipedia to have a separate entry for each name of the same ship, or a single article per ship that includes the ship's name changes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andarin (talk • contribs) 17:34, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- It depends, largely upon notability. For example each ships that serves in the US Navy is considered sufficiently notable to warrant an article. Since it was only a Navy vessel for 3 years, it seems like perhaps it should be merged with Schooner Etak, and this article would then simply redirect visitors to the other article. But you'll also notice in some cases, some vessels have more than one article for example, USS Phoenix (CL-46) became the ARA General Belgrano. Since each title carries with it considerable history, and independent notability, two articles seem to be more useful than just one very long article. I'll start the process of merging this article into the other. Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know the other article existed. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 21:14, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
- Merge completed one year later. Don't rush or anything. Brad (talk) 20:43, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
