Future of the NRL in Perth

[edit]

"The plan still remains with regard to the re-establishment of an NRL team in Perth by around 2010."

Are there any articles to back this up? I'm just curious because I've never heard anything about it. I also would've assumed that Perth is too small to host four major football teams (AFL, Soccer, RU and now RL again?). Bongomanrae 07:10, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Link->[1] That article says the Reds will be back in 2011-12 tho. not 2010.

I've added in the reference that I used for the Western Australia Rugby League article that shows this to be the long-term plan the ARL/NRL has for the WA Reds side, with the team working its way up from the NSWRL Jim Beam Cup in 2008 to the NSWRL Premier League or Queensland Cup and to the NRL in 2011-2012. Whether it works remains to be seen but it is the stated plan. CumberlandsAshes81 05:21, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Westernreds 1995.jpg

[edit]

Image:Westernreds 1995.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Rename to WA Reds

[edit]

I think we should rename the article to keep it current. The WA Reds are the current incarnation of the Western Reds (ARL)/Perth Reds(SL), the article title should reflect that. Bongomanrae (talk) 05:44, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree.--Jeff79 (talk) 09:18, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Might take this further again and rename it to Western Australia Reds. I've already started cleaning up the Perth Reds and Western Reds links around the place so they all point to Western Australia Reds. Bongomanrae (talk) 07:31, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'd disagree with changing to Western Australia Reds simply because that is not the name they use. They have been registered as the WA Reds since early 2007 and that is also how they are marketed/referred to in the media/by fans etc. Cheers,  florrie  07:42, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. It seems kinda strange though, it'd be like calling North QLD the NQ Cowboys. Bongomanrae (talk) 07:53, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not when you live here, it doesn't! Anyway, if the Cowboys were registered and marketed as the NQ Cowboys you'd get used to it soon enough :) Cheers,  florrie  08:08, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get around to fixing up my changes asap. I guess this why we're all waiting for the official announcement from the Bulldogs to see what their name will be! Bongomanrae (talk) 11:09, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this mob fronts up in the, say, 2013 NRL season, it'll be their 62nd game not their first? Can't see it happening.

Another rename for 2013

[edit]

With the launch of the West Coast Pirates by the WARL the Reds name has been consigned to the history books. I'm suggesting we rename this article to the Western Reds and it becomes a historic article about the ARL/SL team and the brief WA Reds relaunch. Then we can focus our efforts on creating a new article for the West Coast Pirates as it seems they will be a total break with the previous teams (merchandise for them is labelled 'Established 2012). Thoughts? Bongomanrae (talk) 06:43, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good. After all Gold Coast Titans have their own article. Mattlore (talk) 06:51, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, exactly. I might start the move asap. Bongomanrae (talk) 08:02, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
