As SWAT-76 eluded to in this 2021 edit, the WNBL's official records for Grand Final MVPs (here) have inaccuracies. The official list has Robyn Maher as 1989 Grand Final MVP, but she did not appear in the 1989 grand final per the box score. I can't find a source to support Samantha Thornton being MVP (per what SWAT-76 added), but it would make sense considering her 26 points and 10 rebounds for the winning team.
The official list also has Debbie Black as 1991 Grand Final MVP, but SWAT-76 added Robyn Maher there instead citing the box score. Again, difficult to source anything for the WNBL from back then, but Black had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Maher had 19 points and 7 assists. The Pick and Roll in 2023 did note that Maher won the 1991 Grand Final MVP, but the source of that info could very well be coming from the author looking at Wikipedia.
