Possible copyvio

[edit]

Isn't a large part of this article an almost exact copy of the biography on iTunes? The content was added on 6 Jan 2011 in this edit by Facefactory (talk · contribs), an SPA. Although it is not impossible that Apple stole the text from Wikipedia and claimed copyright, those three paragraphs read rather like a press release and seem suspect to me. I'll roll the article back to its state prior to 6 Jan 2011 for now. --RexxS (talk) 01:56, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: There is an article on Allmusic at http://www.allmusic.com/artist/the-jesus-and-mary-chain-p4609/biography credited to Jason Ankeny which may possibly be the original, copyright 2011 Rovi Corporation. A Google search for "Like the Velvet Underground, their most obvious influence, the chart success of the Jesus and Mary Chain was virtually nonexistent" (the exact phrase) gives over 9,000 results, so we may never know where the original came from. Nevertheless, I can show that it was not Wikipedia, as the Wayback Machine has a cached snapshot of the Allmusic page from 17 October 2010, which predates the first appearance of the text on Wikipedia by a few months. --RexxS (talk) 02:14, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
