Names
In November 2022, the World Health Organization recommended that the name of the disease "monkeypox" should become "mpox". In 2023, reliable sources and organisations like UK's NHS and the US NLM adopted "mpox" and explicitly refer to "monkeypox" as a former name. As a result, this article and related articles were renamed in March 2023 (See discussions: 1, 2, 3). As of March 2023, the name of the virus responsible for mpox (per the ICTV) remains Monkeypox virus. |
