There are new figures for St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. St. Helena reported 2 positive Covid-19 cases. Source: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/2021/news/coronavirus-covid-19-ieg-update/ .

Since September 2020, Ascension has reported 5 positive Covid-19 cases. Sources: https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-escalated-to-level-2-red (2 positive cases), https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-escalated-to-level-2-red-2 (1 positive case), https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-escalated-to-level-2-red-3 (1 positive case), https://www.ascension.gov.ac/14479-2 (1 positive case)

Ascension has reported 4 cases as recovered: https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-reduced-to-level-1-amber, https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-reduced-to-level-1-amber-2, https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-reduced-to-level-1-amber-3 As far as I see, both cases on St. Helena are still active.

Please, update the figures therefore to: 7 positive cases, 4 recovered 95.90.239.24 (talk) 10:16, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Not done for now: I cannot do these changes because I believe I need totals; if you have sources for a total case count like other editors are requesting, that would be appreciated. Sennecaster (What now?) 22:45, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think you need totals as Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha doesn't report totals yet. You can see that I use the same sources as for the previous figures. Somebody updated the total count to 8. But I'm not sure how this number is counted. From the sources given in the template you won't come to this count. I think my count of 7 positive cases is correct an should be included to the template. As source for Saint Helena you can use this: https://www.sainthelena.gov.sh/2021/news/coronavirus-covid-19-ieg-update/ . As source for Ascension you can use the latest report: https://www.ascension.gov.ac/covid-19-response-level-escalated-to-level-2-red-3 (1 positive case), https://www.ascension.gov.ac/14479-2 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:8109:B5BF:D604:204B:BD9A:E090:F794 (talk) 07:13, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

I would like to suggest to include figures for Transnistria to the template. As there are figures for Artzakh, South Ossetia, Luhansk, Somaliland, etc, it would be just consistent. The figures for Transnistria are: 45352 positive cases, 1032 deceased, 40846 recovered. Source: http://minzdrav.gospmr.org/covid-19/ 87.161.175.177 (talk) 17:09, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Not done. about a year ago, there was a significant amount of discussion regarding whether or not to list such entities with limited recognition separately in the table. if you search for "transnistria" in the talk page archives, you should be able to find the relevant discussions. i believe the resulting consensus was to include the count for transnistria in the count for moldova. following this established consensus, i am closing this request without adding a separate entry for transnistria.
if this is disagreeable to you, you can attempt to change consensus by raising this issue in a new section on this talk page. however, i doubt your proposal will be looked upon favourably unless you have a significant point to raise that has not been raised before. for example, if transnistria is eventually accepted as a full member of the un before this pandemic is over, i think that would be a good reason to add transnistria to the list. however, i am assuming that no one has responded to your request until now because no one wants to touch this controversial issue.
in any case, thanks for the suggestion, and for providing a source. dying (talk) 12:06, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Please, note that it the source is the same as for the previous figures.

Done. please note that the term "western sahara" is not currently used in the table, since cases in western sahara on territory under the control of morocco are included in morocco's count, and cases in western sahara on territory under the control of the sahrawi arab democratic republic (sadr) are reported under "Sahrawi Arab DR". this latter entry is not often updated, since the sadr does not appear to regularly offer updates. as a result, editors unfamiliar with the "Sahrawi Arab DR" entry may ignore requests to update the count for western sahara. may i suggest requesting edits for "Sahrawi Arab DR" in the future? i am assuming that this will help other editors fulfill such requests.
by the way, i am currently working under the assumption that neither morocco nor the sadr have begun including cases on territory not under their own control in their own count, but if anyone has any information otherwise, please adjust the figures accordingly.
as before, thanks for providing a source. dying (talk) 15:22, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

Yes, it would be useful. But it has been discussed many times (see the archives) and we decided no to for various reasons, including the technical difficulty of maintaining data consistently updated, excessive width of the table, etc. MarioGom (talk) 06:50, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

Positive cases on Nauru

Hello,

I’d like to have an opinion on this news: https://www.solomontimes.com/news/frontliners-test-negative-after-cargo-vessel-scare/10974. It seem that they have 13 positive cases on a ship in Nauru. So, I want to count them to Nauru. But, I feel that there will be ambiguities again... Nauru government still claim covidfree (https://www.facebook.com/groups/219485726427273/) and reliefweb speak of "International conveyance" (https://reliefweb.int/map/world/epidemic-and-emerging-disease-alerts-pacific-27-july-2021). So, have we to count these cases to Nauru? Sami270 (talk) 14:27, 27 July 2021 (UTC)

No, these should not be included. It's just a media report - and it's not clear if the people on this vessel entered Nauru. Formally, you don't enter a country until you disembark the vessel (law of the sea). I spent a month cleaning up after one Cook Islands historical case was erroneously added. Federated States of Micronesia

Hello. I wish to know opinion on the FSM cases, specifically, of the first case, which was on board a ship and whose person who had tested positive did not disembark the ship (therefore not entering FSM formally) until discharged. Should that first case be removed or we must abide by the FSM government which considers it a case inside the country?. Thanks for clarifying. CoryGlee (talk) 22:31, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

CoryGlee: Cases in vessels are generally not counted, but ultimately we rely on sources. Johns Hopkins University current count for FSM is 1 case. Same with South China Morning Post ([1]). Is there any Government source that states explicitely that another case is counted as a national case? MarioGom (talk) 07:55, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
MarioGom: Hi and thanks for responding!. I understand now, thank you. As for FSM having two cases, I referred to the Template itself where FSM has 2 cases (apparently well-referenced). I'll be checking on it. If you wish too, thank you. CoryGlee (talk) 11:16, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Replacement

It has been more than a year since the pandemic began and the number of editors who are updating the template have been decreasing. Even the few editors who remain are no longer able to update the template as often as they used to. Therefore, there is already a need for the template to be updated using automated means. A bot can update several countries and most of the template should not be outdated by more than 24 hours. The proposed replacement, User:Phoenix7777/sandbox/COVID-19 pandemic data, is similar to Template:COVID-19 vaccination data, which is already updated by the same bot. The data is at Template:COVID-19 data/data, while the relevant modules are at Module:COVID-19 data and Module:Sandbox/Phoenix7777/COVID-19 data. The replacement uses Our World In Data as its source because it is known to be a reliable source for information related to the COVID-19 pandemic. What do you think? LSGH (talk) (contributions) 04:13, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

(As the one who built the bot and the module) I support this. I think I should note that OWID does not report recoveries, so they would not be included in the new table. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 15:25, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
There has been no opposition, so I plan to implement a replacement on 1 October 2021. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 04:34, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Support. There is further discussion here:

Talk:COVID-19 pandemic by country and territory#Remove old table. Keep the table updated daily by bot.
That is the only article where Template:COVID-19 pandemic data is currently transcluded in.
The replacement template will be this bot-updated one created by Tol:
Template:COVID-19 pandemic death rates
To be clear, this template here should not be deleted and then redirected to the new template. There is a lot of history with this template, and I think it should be kept as part of a historical record of the pandemic. Hundreds of references, lots of discussion.
The new template just needs to go in place of the old template at COVID-19 pandemic by country and territory.
--Timeshifter (talk) 18:04, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

I've implemented the module on this template. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 18:30, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Just for reference, this template is still used on Portal:COVID-19. Template:COVID-19 pandemic death rates would not be a good replacement because it needs to be narrower. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:30, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
  • ‘’’Oppose’’’. Bring back the previous table with local sources! 🙇‍♂️ It has had recoveries. It has had remarks/footnotes as to what country’s numbers mean. Many countries have different approaches to calculating numbers. I was satisfied with the previous table; according to WP:FIXIT, any editor was going to be welcomed to update the table based on new data supported by references, so the argument of the table being outdated is weak. 176.60.50.51 (talk) 19:50, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
The proposal was open for comment for a week. As for footnotes, I think there were far too many; the footnotes were nearly as long as the actual table. If clarification is needed on some location, one can still add notes at Template:COVID-19 data/data (if you don't understand JSON, you can ask me to add them). Yes, it was outdated, and so this is how I fixed it: by making it automatic. As for references, there were 342 of them; there is now only one. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 01:00, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Not everybody checks out this talk page on a regular base. I was surprised when I found the new template. I did my best to update data for all countries almost every day. I feels not ok to just remove the old template where some other users and I put a lot of time and effort in. And in the new template there are a lot of territories missing, which should be included, because otherwise it won't show the accurate Covid figures. --NickBerlin87 (talk) 07:41, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
@NickBerlin87: Putting "a lot of time and effort in" sounds like a sunk costs fallacy. With automatic updates, you won't have to put in that time and effort anymore. The lack of all territories does not mean that the figures are inaccurate; territories are often included in a larger country. Figuring out what counts as a country is tricky (like for Hong Kong); Our World in Data just has different definitions (for example, Puerto Rico is definitely not a country and should be bundled under the United States because that's what the CDC reports). Tol (talk | contribs) @ 17:22, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Tol and NickBerlin87. Many country lists also include some territories and other subnational areas. This is normal.
The old template with references is not lost. The last version with the old references is here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Template:COVID-19_pandemic_data&oldid=1047801936
So the historical record for historians studying this pandemic in the future is kept.
A separate template can be set up just for the missing territories and other subnational areas. NickBerlin87. I suggest you do that. It can be put in its own section just below the main countries table at COVID-19 pandemic by country and territory‎. It does not need to be updated daily. I suggest weekly. It is a lot less work.
Here is a list of territories and other subnational areas included in the World Prison Brief source for this country list:
List of countries by incarceration rate#Territories or other subnational areas
It has the country in parentheses. All those subnational areas are listed (in short form) in the table above it.

European Union

It's confusing that the European Union is represented as well as all of the member states individually. Can someone make a footnote that the European Union's numbers are not counted twice? Or if they actually are, then a footnote about that? 2A02:AA1:1603:5206:587B:8066:DCB0:7982 (talk) 22:50, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

They aren't double-counted in "World". They are counted in both individual member states and in the EU entry. I'll add a note. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 05:12, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Worldometer issue

I would like to know why is worldometer references blocked? It is specifically written in the template, and I would like to know why. WikiSilky (talk) 04:27, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

@WikiSilky: There is consensus among WikiProject COVID-19 that Worldometer is not a reliable source, and so should not be used for any data. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 21:47, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

Editnotice

Now that the module is implemented, the editnotice is redundant. I think it should be removed or heavily trimmed. What do you think? Tol (talk | contribs) @ 19:02, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Data are deceptive

Some countries data are skewed and cannot be be confirmed. The authorities provided wrong numbers so that they can still open their borders to the tourist industries at the detriment of the local people. 157.52.16.99 (talk) 12:56, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Yes, a classic example of Wikipedia choosing verifiability over truth. The Economist recently had an article where they estimated COVID deaths at ten to fifteen million deaths worldwide instead of five million. Until investigative journalists do the necessary digging we are stuck with official figures. In countries where the total deaths figure is reliable, you can still look at how much the total has shifted during COVID and compare that with official COVID figures. But our role is to summarise the sources and to leave original research to others. ϢereSpielChequers 13:24, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
WereSpielChequers gives an excellent summary. I would like to note, though, that I can add data from Our World in Data's COVID-19 pandemic data upon request, and they do include excess mortality. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 15:54, 5 December 2021 (UTC)

Many templates have stopped being updated

Today, while scrounging for COVID-19 data, I came across COVID-19 pandemic in Yemen. While the main template (this one) shows yemen's cases as 10,000+, the Yemen template only shows 2000 and has not been updated since February. Additionally, several other templates (e.g. Norway) have also not been updated. Pinging LSGH. 🐔 Chicdat  Bawk to me! 11:52, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

This one is written in lua and takes data from Wikidata, whereas the Yemen template needs to be updated manually.--Ymblanter (talk) 18:21, 6 December 2021 (UTC)

Why have so many previously included territories and states been removed?

Why have the Crown Dependencies of the Isle of Man, Jersey, and Guernsey been removed from this table? I cannot find any change in consensus since the most recent RfC on which territories to list, which (in-line with previous RfCs) determines that the Crown Dependencies should have their respective case numbers reported separately. If it is simply because they are not mentioned in the single given source, then we need to find a better source.

It should be noted that none of the Crown Dependencies' data are included under the UK or EU totals, as they do not form part of either (despite often being confused as doing so), and each independently reports their case, death, and vaccination, data independent of the UK and/or the EU. This omission of the Crown Dependencies is a strange omission of three perfectly verifiable sets of relevant data. —Ave (talk) 22:41, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Was there vandalism? I wonder why there are now half a million deaths and about 40 million cases less in the list than just a few days ago. Did someone tamper with the list? --Maxl (talk) 17:48, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

@Maxl: The source of the data, Our World in Data, revised its numbers downwards, and the data were updated to match it. World cases decreased by 41087574, though I can't figure out why. It may be an error on their part, in which case it should resolve itself tomorrow, or a change in the definition of a case. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 20:12, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

Style sheet usage

I added a section to list out templates that use the same style.css page. It is a bit hard to figure out where all it is reused and I don't know of a way to add a template that will just show all of its usage. If any were missed, please add. FYI Timeshifter, if you aren't following this page. Jroberson108 (talk) 13:15, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

@Timeshifter: I would suggest renaming these templates to better match the other templates' naming schemes and show that they are sub-data of Template:COVID-19 pandemic data.
Jroberson108 (talk) 14:50, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Jroberson108 and Tol. Please see my updated reply here:
Talk:COVID-19 pandemic deaths#Scrolling versus expanded tables
Wouldn't it be better to move the manual table templates to be subpages of the actual CSS page they use?:
Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/styles.css
Then you could do a subpage search of that CSS page to see where it is being used. Kind of like these subpage searches of my user page, and user-page/sandbox:
Special:PrefixIndex/User:Timeshifter
Special:PrefixIndex/User:Timeshifter/Sandbox - pulls up list of my many sandboxes.
The yearly manual death templates don't use OWID as their source as do the auto-templates. The data for the yearly manual death templates come directly from this massive WHO csv file:
https://covid19.who.int/WHO-COVID-19-global-data.csv
For more info see
Template talk:Monthly cumulative COVID-19 death totals by country#2020, 2021, and 2022 templates and sandboxes
Help:Table#Picking selected dates from massive .csv files
--Timeshifter (talk) 21:35, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
The "Page information" link in the sidebar of the CSS page in question brings up a page with a link to the subpages. So the link for the subpage list for the CSS stylesheet is here:
Special:PrefixIndex/Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/styles.css/
Pages will show up there as they are added as subpages.
--Timeshifter (talk) 21:48, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
Part of the purpose of Uses TemplateStyles is so that TemplateStyles can be tracked by Special:Whatlinkshere (i.e., excluding transclusions will show you many/all of the uses of that template, e.g. [2].
Probably the other way to find it is to use Special:Search e.g. this search which I believe identifies the lot.
I would recommend against Timeshifter's suggestion, strongly. Izno (talk) 00:23, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
@Izno: Your last search link did the trick. It shows a lot of tables using the file, a lot of page one results don't even have sticky headers, so they are using the style to remove some cell padding as far as I can tell. Jroberson108 (talk) 01:10, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
Jroberson108 and Izno. I had a brain fart earlier. It is unnecessary to create subpages. Concerning:
Template:COVID-19 pandemic data/styles.css
This Special:WhatLinksHere search pulls up all the templates transcluding the CSS page:
Templates transcluding the CSS page.
This Special:WhatLinksHere search pulls up all the articles transcluding the CSS page:
Articles transcluding the CSS page.
One of my main points in my previous post was that the monthly cumulative death templates weren't using this template at all:
Template:COVID-19 pandemic data
So they should not be made subpages of it.
Those monthly cumulative death templates were only using the styles.css subpage.
--Timeshifter (talk) 07:25, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
@Izno: I found one more Article page using it on a massive table: COVID-19_pandemic_in_Kyrgyzstan#New_COVID-19_cases_in_Kyrgyzstan_by_region_table_(2nd_wave). I'm adding articles to the search parameter on the doc page. Jroberson108 (talk) 20:36, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Template usage

I appears this template is only used on one portal and no article pages: search. I've update the usage section of the doc. Jroberson108 (talk) 21:27, 8 January 2022 (UTC)

Sticky row headers

@Tol: I would like to make row headers left sticky and cleanup some of the markup and CSS. Can you explain how the automated templates work and is there a list of which ones are automated. Does the entire source get replaced and is there a master template I can adjust that gets deployed by a bot, or can the markup in the templates be edited freely? I noticed some tables use "plainrowheaders", but didn't add scope="row" which it requires, while others aren't using <th> for the row headers. Jroberson108 (talk) 19:55, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

@Jroberson108: I'll try to explain how the automated templates work. The bot updates a JSON page, Template:COVID-19 data/data, daily. A Lua module, Module:COVID-19 data, processes this data and outputs a table (or a single data point). It only outputs the body of the table, not the column headers, so they may be customised. Adding row headers must be done in the module; I tried to do that but there are problems getting the background color in the header to match the rest of the table. As for a list, there's Category:Automatically updated COVID-19 pandemic table templates, and there's also a list in Template:COVID-19 data/doc; I don't know if either is complete. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 20:38, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tol: Cool, I didn't know you could add JSON data to Wikipedia and parse it. By default "wikitable" makes all headers have a background color and "plainrowheaders" targets the ones with scope="row" and removes bold and aligns the text left. If you want, a plainheaders class that only targets these tables could be added to this styles.css to additionally set the background color to white or remove it. I'm not familiar with the Lua language, but it has a syntax that is similar to other languages. I would have to study it a bit before attempting changes. Is there a sandbox for the module to test changes or would you prefer to make any changes yourself? I saw a lot more tables in this search that use the styles.css file, but just didn't know which were automated. I would expect a list of updated templates be in the module, unless there is a module per a template. Jroberson108 (talk) 21:50, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
@Jroberson108: I've created Module:COVID-19 data/sandbox for you. The function you're looking for is main() (line 20 currently). There's just this one module, but it accepts parameters to generate different tables; see the doc § Tables (not entirely complete). This way, anyone can create a new template using the data. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 22:13, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tol: I see, the templates call the module passing in parameters to return the table body, makes sense. Thanks for the sandbox. Is there a wish list of changes to the styling, probably better discussed at Template_talk:COVID-19_pandemic_data/styles.css. The last question is about a JavaScript file, whether JS is discouraged. Tables like Template:COVID-19_data that have a column header (Location) that spans two columns (flag and country) need additional JS to make them both left sticky so the country is beside the flag instead of above it. Alternatively, which requires no JS for left sticky, the flag and country could be combined into one cell or the "Location" column header split into two cells so a blank cell is above the flags. For the split header, the countries and their none spanned "Location" header then would be left sticky allowing the flag to scroll off the page making more space for data. As far as I remember, screen readers read it as "image", so it may not need a column header label. Jroberson108 (talk) 22:46, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
@Jroberson108: Hm. I think I'd prefer splitting the header, because this wouldn't require any change to the module and would probably look better. You can do that in the template. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 23:08, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
@Tol: Yeah, I prefer that way too since it minimizes what is left sticky allowing for more space for scrollable data on smaller devices. Making sticky headers work on mobile is another part to fix. Jroberson108 (talk) 23:27, 9 January 2022 (UTC)

With the table squeezed into one part of the portal page I can't see the "Show all/collapse all" link when I am reading the page at my normal 150% text zoom setting on Firefox.

So I suggest switching it to the left side and putting the VTE links on the right side.

Or shorten the caption to just "COVID-19".

I could scroll right to find the "Show all/collapse all" if I knew it existed. But then I have to scroll right to collapse it too. That is tedious, especially if I do it more than once while perusing other parts of the portal page. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:10, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

@Timeshifter: What is the link? I'm not sure why the VTE and show/collapse links are in the caption area to begin with since it isn't apart of the table caption. Shouldn't they be above the table inside the div wrapper? Also, there is already some CSS to hide the VTE links and move the show/collapse links where the VTE links were when the screen is 500px wide. What is your screen width? Jroberson108 (talk)
This tool might work if you aren't able to get the numbers: howbigismybrowser.com. Jroberson108 (talk) 22:50, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
Jroberson108. Portal:COVID-19. I thought this template was used on only that one mainspace page. Am I correct? See:
Template:COVID-19 pandemic data#Usage
This WhatLinksHere search.
Putting the VTE links and the show/collapse links above the caption sounds like a good idea.
I am on Firefox in Win 10 Pro. On a 27 inch monitor at 2560x1440. Zooming seems different today. But when I get the zoom level high enough I can't see the show/collapse links. Since the table is squeezed into a narrow column on the portal page.
Another idea might be to allow the caption and show/collapse links to wrap. Most table captions do wrap. So I don't know why this one isn't wrapping.
I see nowrap in the wikitext at the top. Maybe it is the problem, and can be removed or adjusted. --Timeshifter (talk) 17:16, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
@Timeshifter: Seems like you gave the screen resolution. What is the viewport and zoom setting while zoomed in? You can use the link I gave earlier or use this one that should work on really small screens (viewport). To make more space for the caption, the link text could be shortened from "[show all]" and "[collapse]" (10 characters) to "[expand]" and "[scroll]" (8 characters). Personally, I think those and the VTE links shouldn't be in the table's caption but above it. Jroberson108 (talk) 17:34, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Jroberson108. Just try out the portal page in different browsers and zoom settings. The browsers and their beginning font sizes are wildly different for me.

And change the display setting resolution too if you want. But the simplest way to see the problem is to increase the zoomed font size of your browser until you see the show/collapse link disappear. Look at the huge amount of wikitext on the caption line:

|+ <div class="covid-show-table" style="font-size:80%;font-weight:500;">[[#covid-19-pandemic-data|[show all]]]</div><div class="covid-collapse-table" style="font-size:80%;font-weight:500;float: right;">[[#void|[collapse]]]</div>{{Navbar-collapsible||Template:COVID-19 pandemic data}}

I agree that the VTE and show/collapse part of it should go above the caption. --Timeshifter (talk) 17:58, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

@Timeshifter: I tried 150% and 200% at various viewport widths. Seems like the scrolling right part you are talking about is the browsers scrollbar and not the table's scrollbar. Scrolling in a desktop browser is expected, especially with the large left sidebar menu that Wikipedia displays on all pages. On there mobile version of the page (mobile portal), the left sidebar menu isn't displayed and no browser scrolling is needed. So the problem doesn't appear to be with the table/template, but with the fact that the entire Wikipedia site isn't responsive (including left nav), which is why they have a different URL for the mobile version. Moving the VTE and show all/collapse links above the table will still have them floating left and right as they are now, so you will have to use your browser's scroll. Moving them and/or shortening the text only serves to allow for a larger caption. Jroberson108 (talk) 18:33, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
Jroberson108. I made a mistake earlier. I mistakenly assumed the same problem would show up on Chrome, Edge, etc.. on a desktop PC.
But they go to one column once the zoom level is high enough. Firefox stays at 2 columns on my desktop PC.
So look only at Firefox on a desktop PC, and increase the zoom until you see the problem. "Show all" will disappear out of view of the table window. And a horizontal scrollbar will show up just below the table window.
It would be nice if instead "show all" went up and to the left as it does in Firefox on my iphone SE 2020 in portrait view. This is without zoom. I have not played around with that on my iphone.
I did not know it was possible to wrap something and have it go up instead of down. Can that be done on desktop Firefox?
--Timeshifter (talk) 23:15, 11 January 2022 (UTC)
@Timeshifter: My landscape display resolution is set to 1920 x 1080. I opened Portal:COVID-19 up in Firefox and maximized the window and I don't see any problems. With my viewport at 512px × 246px (380% zoom), the "view all" link floats to the right. At 480px × 232px (390% zoom), the "view all" link floats to the left. In both instances I can click on the link without any table scrolling. As I said earlier, the browser scroll is needed for the non-mobile version of Wikipedia because of the site's left navigation. I can't reproduce the problem without more information such as the viewport value where the problem occurs. If I resize my window so the viewport width is 500px, "view all" floats to the right, and below 500px it floats to the left, as is instructed by the styles. My Firefox font settings (url: "about:preferences") are "Times new Roman" with a size of 16. My default zoom is 100% with "Zoom text only" unchecked. Check to see if you customized any of those settings or some other settings. Jroberson108 (talk) 01:21, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Are you using a desktop PC, laptop, tablet, ipad, or phone? That viewport link says 2133px x 1057px no matter what my zoom setting is. My display setting resolution is 2560 x 1440 on my 27 inch monitor. Font size is set to 20 in Firefox settings.
I tried narrowing the browser window, and I now see the smaller viewport numbers. If I narrow the browser window enough I see "show all" pushed out of view. Even at just 100% font zoom. --Timeshifter (talk) 05:18, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
@Timeshifter: Desktop PC. I don't like higher resolution settings since the text is too small to read. You can try changing your resolution if that is the reason for the zooming? Each tab has its own zoom setting, so you have to zoom on the viewport tab page separately. What was the viewport dimensions when the problem occured? And do you need to use the table scroll to see it or the page scroll? What about the other Firefox settings I mentioned: font family and "Zoom text only"? A screenshot might be helpful too. Also, do you have the same problem on the mobile version of the page: mobile portal? Jroberson108 (talk) 14:39, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
Jroberson108. I am not going to worry about this further. It's a minor problem, and not worth more effort on your part or mine. There are more important issues that need my time. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:19, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
