Samuel MacLean Gilmour was a New Testament scholar and Professor at Queen's Theological College.
Biography
[edit]MacLean Gilmour was born at Dauphin, Manitoba, in 1905.[1] He was educated at the University of Manitoba where he received a B.A. in 1924. In 1928, he received a B.D. (Old Testament) from the union of Theological Seminary in New York City and in 1937 received a Ph.D. (New Testament) from the University of Chicago Divinity School. He had a long career as a professor and scholar of theology at Queen's University, and as a minister, chaplain, author and translator. During his career he served as President of the Canadian Society of Biblical Studies and of the Canadian Section of the Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis, 1960-1961. He was a member of the Editorial Committee of the Journal of Biblical Literature and a member of the Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas. He was also a professor at Andover Newton Theological School.[2] He died in 1970.[3]
