Glama Gal Kids Spa
[edit]Glama Gal Kids Spa is a day spa dedicated to kids located in Ontario, Canada.[1] They are best known for being the first spa across Ontario to host spa-themed birthday parties dedicated to young children. [2] As of 2021, the brand has multiple franchises and virtual locations across Ontario.[1] The brand is built to encourage children to be positive, confident, and unique, while positive affirmations are seen throughout the walls of their locations.[3]
History
[edit]Glama Gal Spa was created in 2006 by two sisters, Laura and Josie Canonne, commonly known as The GG Sisters.[1] After hosting a successful spa-themed bridal shower for Laura, their relatives convinced them that they should host spa birthday parties.[1]
The name 'GLAMA' is used as an acronym to represent "Girls Leading And Motivating Altogether".[4] After co-owner, Josie was bullied in high school, the brand was created with a firm stance on inclusion and acting through kindness.[5] This also remains at the backbone of their franchise system as inquiries that primarily discuss how much money can be made are immediately rejected.[5]
They started their entrepreneurial journey out of their parent’s basement, with an $80 investment in children’s bathrobes, nail polish, and bath bombs.[6] After hosting several mobile-at-home spa birthday services, they transformed their concept into a profitable business.[1]
In 2008, the GG sisters opened their first brick-and-mortar spa location in Vaughan, Ontario. [7] It offers a full-service spa for kids, including hosting birthday parties, walk-in spa services, and themed motivational workshops.[1]
By 2011, the sisters hosted over 5,000 spa parties for kids and were inspired to open franchises to replicate the concept. [1] They later opened a total of 8 locations across Ontario: Vaughan, Ajax, Barrie, Newmarket, Durham, Toronto, Markham, and Oakville.
In 2020, they were forced to shut down many of their locations due to Covid-19.[1] As of 2021, the brand operates 3 locations in Vaughan, Toronto, and Ajax.
Services
[edit]Children can create cosmetics such as lip gloss and hand lotion, receive spa treatments like manicures, pedicures, and facials.[1]
The company also offers made-up birthday packages, some of which include sundae-themed parties, painting parties, slime parties, and other kid-friendly party activities in-studio. Off-site parties party packages are also offered, where employees of the business will travel to local distances to facilitate a party for kids.[1]
As of April 2020, the brand has changed its model to focus on virtual birthday party events, celebrations, paint nights, and DIY kits due to Covid-19. [1] They are also offering virtual gift cards that can be emailed to the recipient or printed out from home.[8]
Virtual party events can be booked and purchased online, where a child can invite their friends to a virtual birthday party hosted by a Glama Gal employee.[9] Before the birthday, parents can arrange a date and time to curbside pick up a Virtual Spa Party Pack needed by their child's guests who are attending the party or have it delivered for an additional fee.[10] All packages include a virtual birthday certificate and digital invitations.[9] On the day of the party, guests can attend using a device that has access to a stable internet connection and the appropriate free software needed to participate in the live session.[9]
GG Makers & Movie Nights
[edit]On occasion, the brand hosts themed movie nights where children can participate in activities that suit the theme of the movie.[11] In November 2021, the brand showed the movie, The Secret Life of Pets, where kids could receive a paw print temporary tattoo and paint their own "magical pet".[11]
Holiday Spa Events & Camps
[edit]Each year, the brand launches one-hour holiday-themed events and activities that can be booked in advance. In December 2021, the brand launched the "Santa Squad Spa Package" and the "Express your Elf Spa Package". [12] Children can also participate in a holiday camp that includes a spa service, paint session, and other crafts with other children. [13]
Marketing
[edit]The brand appeared on several networks such as Global TV, Breakfast Television, CBC, and City TV Toronto, National Post, Toronto Star, and CP24.[14]
The GG Sisters
[edit]In 2016, the two sisters created social media channels known as "The GG Sisters" where they share behind-the-scenes looks at the life of franchisors, entrepreneurs, and moms.[15] On Instagram, they share content that includes their personal life such as food recipes, their children, and being an entrepreneur[16].
They have spoken at multiple conferences, events, and workshops, including Blissdom Canada, Mom Boss Brunch, and The Mompreneur Conference.[17]
The GG Media Group
[edit]In 2019, the GG Sisters and Dave Iafrate, created The GG Media Group, a marketing and business consulting company.[18] After recognizing that people are in need of business advice, the GG sisters and one of their partners created this business to offer advice and tips for both big and small companies.[19]
They have worked with larger companies like Neutrogena, Aveeno, Holiday Inn, buybuy BABY, and Hasbro for various campaigns, events, grand openings, and product launches.[20]
They also launched the GG YOU-niversity Community, a multifaceted social media company.[21] It offers social media management solutions, virtual influencer events/programs, the development of Facebook and Instagram ads targeting specific audiences for brands, and the planning and hosting of virtual professional development workshops for businesses.[18]
Awards
[edit]The brand received the PTPA Award (Parent Tested Parent Approved) and is recognized as Oakville Beaver’s community of readers for the Platinum Choice Award for Best Spa and for receiving the Gold Award for Customer Service in 2014.[4]
